You might think about cleaning the electronics box using the RetroBrite process with H2O2 and UV light. I know those boxes were slightly tinted, but the RetroBrite will remove any of the yellowing and discoloration.
Hey Matt! Looking good! I painted mine box art black when I built it back in 1982 to keep with the authenticity and I have seen the other colors but have a soft spot for the black as that was what my box art was when I purchased the kit. Therefore, I vote for black. with the full decal livery. May have to get one of those cool devices to shine things up and do a frame off restoration of all 4 of my 3 gear Tamiya units. Over the past 40 years, they have picked up some dullness through use and sitting on the shelf.
Fantastic! The blazer/Hilux/bruiser were terrible but once you drove them they were so much fun. Well the bruiser was. I’d say go with SBG blue for your blazer.
Impressive restoration work. The transmission in particular looks amazing compared to when you first showed it. Normally, I am not a fan of designating a RC car as a shelf queen, but agree a rare piece of RC history should be preserved.
I am realizing how an air compressor just won’t cut it anymore for cleaning an RC but terrific job on the restoration can’t wait for more , I would definitely recommend the blue with the stripes such a classic look.
I vote blue it is coming out real nice I don’t have any old rc like this but the longer I am in the hobby the more I like and appreciate content like this
Black with silver and a large number 3 on the side.😁 Seriously, I would reproduce the original body as a 3d print for shelf duty and preserve the original unpainted body as a rare historical artifact.
If it were mine, I'd add the gaskets to the trans, or use silicone and just wipe it off when you clamp it together. Either way, a proper shelf queen should be 100% functional.
You’ve done a great job cleaning up those parts. Almost makes me feel bad about not cleaning my Mountaineer like that. Why are you putting billet bumpers on for a restoration job? I’m sure it will look great. My choice on body color would be blue I think.
Funnilly enough watching this on my lunch break at work, and the ultrasonic cleaner is running here cleaning fuel injectors, whilst you were saying you would spare us from your ones noise haha
Man I feel you when you mentioned you needed a break form the project. Been there. I found out the hard it’s best to step away then plow through. Less likely to lose patience and cut a corner just to get it over with. I’ll try to catch you on Whatnot tonight. Missed the last show.
Those clean parts look beautiful but the size of that electronics box would irk the hell out of me. If I had to choose I'd get the blue body cause I like the racing stripes on it. I'm a sucker for 80's early 90's style stripes on trucks.
Man this is coming out nice eh. Thise axles are actually very detailed for the age.. like those would look good on a modern truck. All I can think of with the agitator (spelling may be off) is those cooking shows. My wife loves those shows... I do to hahaha. But when you placed the rims in, all I could think of is the chef placing food in the oil fryer. Haha. Odd I know. But I may have to grt one of those. That was cool. Plus another tool is always healthy. I like the blue. The red is nice. But that blue pops. I'll make sure to try and make it for the live on the whatsnot thingy mabobber app. Haha. Iv actually been looking on there a fair bit now. Great video man.
@@redndeyes oh sorry my friend. I like that paint scheme. I'm sure no self respecting RCer would ever vote for a Jackass. I heard this tictok kid say VoteBlueNoMatterWho.and I was like WTF. Why would you vote for someone who you haven't researched?
I remember driving one around 40 years ago. The real shame is Tamiya has lost its ability to produce a working crawler given this was so far ahead of its time .
Nice truck. I believe the Bruiser and Mountaineer had 750 motors.
Blue would be fantastic
My first Tamiya was the Mountaineer.... certainly appears to be the same/similar transmission
That blue has a great set of graphics! I say blue for the win?
Digging the blue color...
Use that Kentucky sky blue it will pop.

I love black trucks, and red too, but man that blue scheme is just amazing, and very old school, very Tamiya...
Blue all day
Red would make that thing look stellar!!!
I think I'm voting blue. The stripes really set it apart
The Tamiya Lunchbox is what made me fall in love with rc's
Blue is cool

Very cool! I'm getting all kinds of opinions.
Fantastic! The blazer/Hilux/bruiser were terrible but once you drove them they were so much fun. Well the bruiser was. I’d say go with SBG blue for your blazer.
The blue has my vote! It's screams late 70s early 80s. Can't wait to see it finished. 👍
You should use a basket so it doesn’t Lu on bottom
I usually favor blue, but the red looks more fitting to the truck in this particular situation.
I'd go black or blue. Blue would be my first choice. Black seems to be the most common box art.
Red on the Sho Bronco!
Looking forward to auction stuffs
Impressive restoration work. The transmission in particular looks amazing compared to when you first showed it. Normally, I am not a fan of designating a RC car as a shelf queen, but agree a rare piece of RC history should be preserved.
I would go with blue
My vote is for the blue with those contrasting stripes. Vintage but still looking great!!
I am realizing how an air compressor just won’t cut it anymore for cleaning an RC but terrific job on the restoration can’t wait for more , I would definitely recommend the blue with the stripes such a classic look.
Blue!
I'd usually say black, but blue with the coloured stripes looks mint.
As much as I loathe shelf queens, this one I totally understand! As a display only,... my favorite color is blue, soooooo...
BLACK!
I vote blue it is coming out real nice I don’t have any old rc like this but the longer I am in the hobby the more I like and appreciate content like this
Black will look great with all the polishing you are doing
You have more patience than I. Kudos Matt on a super neat project. Definitely BLUE. Maybe leave the original bumpers ?
black with the retro graphics looks the best.
I think black would look great with the chrome pieces
For a shelf queen,(which it should be) Blue would look awesome 👌
Blue with the KC Daylighters! 😊😊😊
Black for classy, red for sporty.
I vote red! 👌
Black of course for a shelf queen!
Totally amazing! Well done 👌 looks like new parts 😍 RC vintage hero 👏👏👏
Go for the blue! Black as a secondary choice. NO RED EVER😂
The blue looks sick
Blue would look great!!! And can call it ( OLE BLUE ) !
Blue I agree with prior statements it fits the era Chevrolet in the desert at its time
black for sure looks the best IMO thanks for the vid........
I vote blue. Great job on the cleaning. Take a break on cleaning it took 40 years to get that dirty doesn't have to be cleaned quickly
Cool defo the blue with the stripes for sure!
The blue seems to go with that baja era, would look great sitting next to the Porsche
RED definitely red that would look awesome
Keep it a shelf queen, such a great piece of rc history, I would make it black like the box art.
Black with silver and a large number 3 on the side.😁 Seriously, I would reproduce the original body as a 3d print for shelf duty and preserve the original unpainted body as a rare historical artifact.
The blue Blazing Blazer looks great with the red & orange striping.
Great video. I'm excited to see the finished truck. I vote black.
Black for me ,its the one I remember. If I had a choice probably go yellow or orange.
Those ultrasonic cleaners are kick ass. "Black"
Black always looks good, but for something as flashy as this red is the only way.
Loving the blue.
Either of the box original schemes would look amazing.
It’s a pizo electric cell about the size of a 50 cent piece. Also will generate some heat without a real heater attachment.
Black and gold "American Racing Equip" (Frank Vessels' BFG Blazer)
I prefer the blue box art version
If it were mine, I'd add the gaskets to the trans, or use silicone and just wipe it off when you clamp it together. Either way, a proper shelf queen should be 100% functional.

I think blue would look great!
Oh and I almost forgot to comment on the most important thing that trucks coming out very nice
Candy Blue with the retro earth tone stripes
Definitely the blue would be sick
I like the blue version.
Glad to see vintage stuff. Half of my collection is vintage Tamiya.
Very cool!
Looking good! It does take some time to rebuild these. Mine is Black with original decals.
BLUE for sure!
sick frickin truck brotha.... matte black for the color!!!
Black shelf queen
Love the video! Defo do black but with a blue and red livery ! Tie it all in 😂😂
Blue!!!! Awesome job Matt
Love the blue!!
Black with all those shiny parts
cleaning up nicely 👍🏻👍🏻 Blue body looks nice 👍🏻
Very cool to see all the detail that went into this truck its looking Awesome either Blue or Red Thanks for the videos
Love the blue
Funnilly enough watching this on my lunch break at work, and the ultrasonic cleaner is running here cleaning fuel injectors, whilst you were saying you would spare us from your ones noise haha
Haha! That's awesome!
Love how you pulled the "new" out of those old parts. Great job. You love to detail with paint, how about red, white, blue, black in SBG glory?
You should go with black, that box art is classic and classy
I love my black Blazer but Red is iconic and very cool
Blue blue blue blue blue!
Red, will not show imperfections as bad as black. Blue is OK but farther away from everyone's favorite Orange!
Always enjoy your videos, I vote for the Blue
Blue of course :)
Man I feel you when you mentioned you needed a break form the project. Been there. I found out the hard it’s best to step away then plow through. Less likely to lose patience and cut a corner just to get it over with.
I’ll try to catch you on Whatnot tonight. Missed the last show.
The red is the rarest to see... 👍
Looks great so far; I vote blue.
Those clean parts look beautiful but the size of that electronics box would irk the hell out of me. If I had to choose I'd get the blue body cause I like the racing stripes on it. I'm a sucker for 80's early 90's style stripes on trucks.
❤Hi Matt I would paint it up like Frank Scoop Vessels lll livery. Vessels Stallion Farms logo. So cool to see how you have restored it
Thank you!
I think the blue looks best
Red would be great!
Black would be great
Blue is my pick!
You should do a gold and white like the old Olympia beer version.
Black... AND red!!!!! LOL
Man this is coming out nice eh.
Thise axles are actually very detailed for the age.. like those would look good on a modern truck.

Haha.
Iv actually been looking on there a fair bit now.
Great video man.
Great work Matt looking awesome. As for the body boxart Black for me.
Blue is the way to go!
Mad Love from alaBAMa. I vote blue.
Lol never ever vote blue 🤣
@@redndeyes oh sorry my friend. I like that paint scheme. I'm sure no self respecting RCer would ever vote for a Jackass. I heard this tictok kid say VoteBlueNoMatterWho.and I was like WTF. Why would you vote for someone who you haven't researched?
Let's not get political!
I remember driving one around 40 years ago. The real shame is Tamiya has lost its ability to produce a working crawler given this was so far ahead of its time .
Black is the one!
