Played the first time 20 years ago and re-played 20 years after. I'm 39 now but same goosebumps and same tears on this beautiful song.
Time flies! I still remember when my brother gave me a copy of FFVII in -97 or around then and I've loved the series since then!

It was when I turned 14 - playing this game with my friends, laughing and (almost) crying, hearing this song, reading Vivi's last words... This game gave me a feeling of departure - you know - the moment you feel like searching for the meaning of life, the time when you find yourself too eager and all ready for a long journey to find true friends, true love and change the world...
Now I'm about to reach my 30, time has surely gone by so fast. Looking back on how far I've gone, I must accept that everything about life has never been as good as I expected. The reality is always cruel, I guess.
This game and its messages, the feelings, the memories... are they just fantasies after all? No matter what, I never regret dreaming of and spending my teenage years for such an idealism.
I know what you're saying, but I refuse to believe that bonds like these don't exist in this life. It's just that they go different ways than this. Take it from someone who HAS had that long journey of which you speak. I know you'll find it too.

FF9 in my opinion is easily one of the best Final Fantasy games. VII is great and so glad about the remake but I think IX is better. It always cheers me up and I just love everything about the game. I swear if they announce a remake, I would cry.
+Adam Clark Yes 9 is a better game and the last of the 'proper' FF games but 7 will always be that archetypal rpg game. 12 and X-2 have my favourite battle systems but the stories are all broken, I don't think they have made a good FF story since X. XV looks to be more of the same /sigh.

Although I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy and have grown up with it since the age of 3 the whole FF franchise is the most ridiculously fanboi/grl thing ever.
To me XII was the last halfway decent FF game and it was a hastily put together mess. X was the last really good FF game and X-2 although fun to play was a too short, weakly written, cash in on X. Since then they have taken a *massive* nosedive getting worse and worse with each new game in the series.
FF stories are on the whole vastly overrated; clunky plots, awkward characters and absolutely terrible dialogue that even George Lucas would laugh at.
I'm not a massive gamer but other games I have played such as Uncharted and Mass Effect are far better written, like on another level entirely better written.
FFXIII although a passable gaming experience was one massive survival horror cliche gone wrong and the constant rhetoric was frankly nauseating. It ranks next to it's sequel and FFXIV as the worst FF games of all time. I will try FF XV, just because, but if it doesn't deliver SE won't be seeing anymore my $$$ again that's for sure.

FFIX is a classic masterpiece in the Final Fantasy verse; Story-telling at it's finest. This game left no void, no stones unturned, it was perfect.
VII VIII and IX all hold a special place in my heart. I maintain the musical scores for them are some of Uematsu's best work of his career.
This song is one of my favorite from Final Fantasy's musics. It's so poetic, beautiful, it tells us to still believe in fantasy and in what is wonderful, even if life is a struggle.
If you have good friends, faith, love and courage, you can go on, and succeed!

There's not such videogame can brought so much nostalgic and even memories of our own lifes, happys moments and even painfuls moments, you can feel yourself connected by the game and song itselfs.

Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, and 10 were the death of real games.
They were so good that gaming companies, Squaresoft included, realized, they would never make anything more beautiful. I played these games so long ago I barely remember them. Yet seeing this video, I am reminded that I was granted the joys of feelings far more beautiful than anything in life has ever granted me since. A mixture of joy and pain that sends vibrational frequencies so intense through my body that, as I sit in a room at 40 degrees, I sweat. Tears flow uncontrollably.
Somehow, someway, these emotions must be passed on to those who were not blessed enough to experience these feelings. Feelings that simply transcend the boundaries of reality. Feelings that expand the meaning of beauty. Feelings that could never be described to their fullest with the mere limitation of words, or, even actions for that matter. It is simply not possible with our limited minds to possibly express these kinds of feelings from one person to another through any form.
I have to wonder if the people who created these stories, visuals, and music, knew what they were doing. Is it even possible to intentionally create something this beautiful? Did they just create at whim? Why did they stop? If they had a true grasp of what they were capable of, why did they not finish? They could have touched every corner of reality, not just here. They could have changed the world. Brought true peace and virtue to every soul on this planet. They could have applied their technique to every facet of life. It would have changed everything.

This actually made me cry. Congratulations, that is not an easy task. I absolutely LOVED FFIX, and I'm sad that so few people ever played it. The story between Zidane and Garnet is great, and this song is easily one of the best, if not THE best vocal song from any final fantasy.

FF7R has the same sort of sentimental story. I found it refreshing. A lot of time spent helping people, and the romance aspect of it is pretty well developed considering the game only takes place in Midgar.

FF9 HANDS DOWN IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE AND HAD THE BEST INTRO
to make it simple, Final Fantasy is actually an anthology of different stories which shares a common theme: spiritual, friendship, love, battle against evil.
Not only is it beautifully written and beautifully sing, but keep in mind the singer here is Japanese, and, save for a couple vowels, it's almost impossible to tell. Serious props to her, to be able to sing in a foreign language with such a good accent!
What's great about this series was that they really touched on every character's stories well. They all had a meaning

Square Enix is trying too hard to please every gamer including non-RPG gamers.

They need to go back to the roots! FF had great story & combat without all of the overkill graphics and cutscenes!

I love how in the English version of this, they did make an effort to to have a it rhyme nicely while still keeping the original message of the song. Very well done. I wish Suteki Da Ne in English had followed in these footsteps, but it sounds like a jumbled mess in English unfortunately.
There's a "beta" version of this song that was used on the ad for this game in Japan with different lyrics, actually. I think it's available on one of the Square Enix's RUclips channel, but I forgot which one.

Man, the memories are hitting hard with this one...I remember when I first played FF9 when I was about 14 years old. Even then, the game seemed to bring an old-timey story telling experience that's gravely lacking in today's many movies, video games, books, etc. There was just something so enduring about FF9 as a kid. Even though I'm not sure I would truly be able to appreciate this timeless masterpiece now - I can't deny that it definitely left an impression on me when I did play it all those years ago.

I played this when i was 20. Brings back memories.
It's almost 2020 and Im still cryin when I hear this song.
I love this game and this is one of my favorite songs of all time, which brings to my mind memorable memories and emotions. For me FF IX is not just a game, it is a piece of art, a collection of emotions and feelings that will always remain in my heart.
I remember beating this game a long time ago. I was a kid and looked up to Zidane as my role model... needless to say, I went through too many emotions by the end of the game. I remember sobbing out of loss, then crying tears of joy, and then the credits left me in a daze... I remember telling myself "what am I going to do now?"

This game is so beautiful. My heart breaks when I think about the small possibility of a remake like ff7 remake.
Between the coattails of 7 & 8 and then 10, Final Fantasy 9 feels a lot more like a fairy tale.
After hearing it for the first time, almost 25 years on now, this song has always managed to pull my heart strings without fail. It invokes such a deep emotion, that you come to truly appreciate as you grow older, when you've experience life through its highs and lows, through all of its layers of harmony and all the memories that comes together with it.

Final Fantasy IX and VII are the best games ever made to date storywise.
If you see it gameplaywise, it's definately FFX.
I get here in 2021 and after all these years.. there still aren't any better. No matter if we are into VII and IX, or VIII and X - we still are the ones that were lucky enough to feel and experince so much it could make a lifetime.

Not underrated at all! Universally acclaimed and praised. Personally, mi first Final Fantasy experience in Playstation. I jumped from 6 to this one, and it is perhaps with X, the ones that hold a special place in my heart. And this comes from someone who was lucky enough to play the original FF I in the original NES. I love the franchise!!

ff7 has been remake-d a lot of times already, and other FF series got remakes too. i think it's FF9's turn!!
they just released it on steam again. its a testament to how good the graphics were for the ps1 era. its still playable as it is. that isn't so for 7 or any of its predecessors.

I'm not sure whether I prefer VII or IX overall, but I can definitely say that finishing IX is far more rewarding. The conclusion of the story is far more satisfying, and the fact that you're able to sit there as the credits roll with this song playing is just fantastic. Definitely my favorite video game credits music, as well as one of my favorite songs of all time.
