YES!! I loved how Maul was not backing down and his skill level was so prevalent. Most villains got that retreat mentality. I think this was the first villain fight that I truly witnessed a two on one good guys versus a villain match up.
The fact that the only word in this duel is "nooo!" says something. The fight was so intense that there was no time for speaking, just fighting. This is my favorite duel out of the whole series.

I love Qui-Gon, he is in the middle of a fight with a Sith, a sworn enemy of all Jedi that is not even supposed to exist and he takes a moment to meditate, calm and cool. Qui-Gon is a legend
Fun fact: the body language he and maul use in that scene would end up being reused in the game Star Wars: The Old Republic as the "meditate/seethe" (basically a rest ability that restores HP and force) animations for the Jedi and Sith Assassin. Which consequently means the Sith Assassin has the coolest animation for that skill.
Uhm, I like this duel. But I feel nothing when watching it. That tends to happen when your villain has 3 lines of dialogue in the entire movie. Ahsoka vs Maul is much superior despite being the same villain and being animated. The difference? Character development.
@@spencerpearson3986 Why? TCW quite literally "fixed" the PT for me in terms of the complete storyline. Maul was a superb villain on the show but that doesn't change the fact that in TPM, he only has 3 lines of dialogue. There's not much reason for me to root against him other than Jedi=good and Sith=bad. Yes, he looks badass. But there's nothing going on there other than the fact that they are fighting. There's no emotional conflict. They don't know each other. They don't speak. It's the same with the heroes. The movie did very little for me to care about Qui-Gon and I know that Obi-Wan is going to survive. I like Liam Neeson but his character was, simply put, boring as fuck. He's your generic, wise Jedi. Furthermore, I usually say that Ewan McGregor is the best thing about PT but I don't really mean in TPM. He didn't really do much either. He stays on a ship for an hour of the movie and even afterward he fades too much into the background.
This movie is severely underrated and under appreciated. This scene changed lightsaber fighting from a fencing style to an acrobatic crazy style with force abilities integrated.
@@hitmonchan52 which turns out, not that cringe. The pod racing scene is great, the battle of the plains was good and the infiltration of the capital was great. Jarjar’s a bit annoying but his race isn’t much more annoying than Ewoks were. Over all I’d say it’s a good movie, certainly better than any of the new trilogy movies.
3:12 this “silent rage” from Obi-Wan always gives me goosebumps. No music, no words, he just comes out swinging as hard as he can, and you can hear the rage in his swings. This duel is just a masterpiece.
Low-key not the Jedi way but y'know what he is young and he's just witnessed the sudden death of his father figure and he's only human so He's doing the best he can guys
@@ThinWhiteAxe honestly I think that was a big part of Obi Wan's character in TPM, him being headstrong and slightly cocky, seeing as he was young and inexperienced. Makes the movie even better imo.
Obi Wan is my favorite character since I was kid. Absolutely love him. Better padawan than Anakin Using his Rage in a good way Using his anger as the force
@@ThinWhiteAxe Exactly. That’s why I like it so much. He was young and brash, not fully acclimated to the Jedi way. It also shows Obi-WAN’s growth from episode 1 to 2-3, because he never got like that again.
This is honestly my favorite duel of the whole series, close second Obi Wan and Anakin. The fact that even Obi Wan knew he was tapping into his rage to defeat Maul shows how self aware and well rounded he was EVEN AS A PADAWAN this pre Master Kenobi! This duel stuck with him, he lost his master, lost his path for a moment, and realized he needed to take responsibility for Qui Gons choices because he was gone. Beautiful scene, perfectly scored, perfectly choreographed, just an absolute emotional atom bomb
It’s also worth noting that despite it getting him serious results against a seemingly superior foe, he doesn’t do it again ever during the series. Shows his restraint and genuinely belief if the Jedi way

Maul is likely channeling his hatred and anger while Qui Gon was meditating. In SWTOR a jedi pc will meditate to regen as a sith will pace seething in anger.
I really love how the three of them react differently to the barriers popping up. It’s subtle, but I think it adds a lot of character to this encounter
This is for me one of the single greatest examples of "show don't tell", not only in star wars, but in film. If you hadn't watched the movie at all you'd be able to realize that Maul is a menacing predator, Qui Gon the stoic and wise master and Kenobi is the anxious apprentice. It's also great world building, because Jedi draw power from restraint and self-reflection, while the Sith draw power from seething and hatred, so to have the characters act that out in the middle of a fight makes the different philosophies they have feel more alive and concrete.
One thing I love about Mauls lightsaber style is how fluid yet powerful it is. The coolest description of his style is when Kenobi cuts his staff in half and when he gets back up he immediately moves a safe distance away from Kenobi while spinning and swinging his lightsaber to keep Kenobi at bay until he has his footing set to reengage with him. Even his defense had offense. It’s very subtle but well choreographed.
Maul is one of the greatest duelists in all of Star Wars. I would say only Yoda, Mace and Anakin were better. He went toe-to-toe with Sidious in Clone Wars, to the point Sidious had to resort to the Force to subdue him. Ahsoka is barely able to keep up with him, and only cuz she was trained by Anakin.
I don’t care what anyone says This entire fight sequence and score makes Phantom Menace not only one of the greatest Star Wars movies of all time but a piece of cinema history. It’s 5 minutes of pure physical acting, non stop action, with an earthshaking score behind it. Only one word is spoken the entire sequence. “No!”

This duel is one of the best in cinema history. The intensity from start to finish, the athleticism and physicality of all three actors, the stakes in play, the sacrifice of the noble master that leads his apprentice to give it all for victory over a proven deadly combatant and the score. It's epic. People also forget just how much of an ass kicking Maul was taking off Obi-wan in terms of pure skill and physicality when he tapped into his desire for vengeance, it the force push that flipped the script.
2:45 Say what you want about the prequels, but this scene, Qui-Gons facial expression facing the incredible hate in Darth Mauls face - wow, that was so powerful. As if Qui-Gon couldn't even fathom the hate that powered Mauls skills. Incredible performance by both Neeson and Park.

i don’t think it was him looking confused about the amount of hatred maul has, i think it was him knowing he was completely outmatched with lightsaber skills. cause of the block maul pulled on him like 3 seconds before
The laser door scene is honestly very clear on the two sides personalities, sith are impatient and reckless, while jedi are patient and mindful, but not all jedi are like this, and it proves a lot even though there are zero words.
@@MrMagoo-rg8er I was thinking about this too, but Obi-Wan was pretty effortlessly kicked away by Maul twice and I think Qui-Gon decided to protect Obi-Wan by keeping the fight away from him.
@@alchemist2188 That's not good fight IQ. Qui-Gon himself was also kicked away multiple times, and struggled finishing the fight when they did have the upper hand just like Obi-Wan. What he should've done was recognize that because of the danger their enemy posed, they had best work together.
I can't believe this whole sequence is 5 minutes long. Watching it in the theatre as a teen, it felt more like 10 at least. The best fight scene in all of Star Wars. Perfect.
It kinda is 10 minutes long because it cuts back to Jar Jar fighting the droid army in those fields, to Anakin in that fighter in space and Padmé's trying to get the Viceroy.
@@SammEater true mate, if you watch the entire movie it cuts back to the other battles going on at the same time. I think it cuts back and forth between all the battles atleast three times making the duel last 3 times longer
I always think about how Anakin tries to copy this move in Ep. 3. Obi-Wan tells him “don’t try it,” knowing exactly what Anakin intends to do. It’s tragic that Obi-Wan defeats him by countering the very move he no doubt taught Anakin after defeating Maul.
Why do you think he would go on to "teach" Anakin that move? Both times it's out of desperation and really the only option left. It is in retrospect a bit silly that Obi Wan pulls it off in this scene considering how much time Maul has to react to it.

It was in the trailer before I saw the movie in 1999. Nonetheless, when that second "blade" came out, it was still a pretty hype moment when I first saw the movie in theaters.
Fun Fact: In the part where Obi Wan and Darth Maul fight right after Qui-gon's death, they fought so fast that the producer's actually had to slow it down because the audience would not be able to see what was happening.
I loved this scene and this movie as it doesn't tell but show you. You can see the quiet, calm, and poise of Qui Qon, the rage of Obi Wan after losing his master and friend, and the anger and hatred on mauls face. The only words spoken was a no after qui qon was killed. It was excellently well directed, and acted. While the speed of the actors may not be as much as what we're used to in modern films. I loved this scene more, it felt more real. Everything had weight to it. As they were running around and their boots hitting the floor, the clash of lightsabers, the emotions, the kicks and punches. They felt like they were actually fighting for their lives instead of a lot of recent movies where they seem to aiming for each other's blades instead of trying to kill their enemy. Top duel, with only obi wan and anakin giving a challenge due to the raw emotion in that fight.

for jedi and obi-wan it was not rage but determined justice. its the same concept as electric judgement. which can be confused with sith force lighting, which is focused from hate and anger. where electric judgement can only be activated when the jedi is extremely compelled to enforce justice. thru the entire fight gin and obi used a non lethal light saber form meant to subdue, disarm and capture maul alive. maul was a master of all 7 forms. then when he killed gin and he knocked obiwan off the cliff his emotions were filled with joy, pride. so he lost his sharp focus that sith get from anger and hate. then when obi one summoned the force, grabed gins light saber, maul was expecting obiwan to use the same self defence form and anticipated a disarming strike. but the force guided obi-wan to perform a killing blow. because there was no way to capture him alive, his master was dead. he would of died if it was an equal fight and there would of been no justice at all. this is what confused maul because he was a sith and did not expect this padawan to deal a killing blow when every move he used before was from a pacifist form. since maul could of never grasped the concept of determined justice.
@@jayB733 Honestly, they were just victims of poor writing. I think Mark Hamil (or one of the other original Star Wars actors) once said George Lucas was a visionary, but a poor writer. The main reason the original trilogy is so good, is because the various actors stood up to Lucas and told him "I don't think my character would do/say that, I think it'd be more like this" and he went along with it. But with the prequel trilogy, everyone just kinda went along with what Lucas wrote, never questioning it. Some of Anakin's best scenes are the ones where he doesn't talk, because Hayden Christiansan is such a great actor he's able to convey a lot of emotions in his actions. One of the reasons why I'm excited for the Kenobi series, can't wait to see how he'll play Vader.

My second favorite ever is actually Anakin vs. Ventress in cartoon network Clone Wars. The best animated star wars and possibly best star wars media ever created. Unfortunately its been buried under the rug by Disney to forever be underrated and outcasted. Complete travesty
Sequence as a whole is the best of all the movies, but the 1 on 1 between kenobi and maul is untouchable. They are moving fast as hell and in PERFECT sync. That whole stretch from 3:13 to 3:18 gives me goosebumps every time. Obi came out SWINGING
I was 7 at the time and didn't really understand what star wars was. My dad was just always telling stories about it since he watched the first 3 movies back then. We didn't have a copy of it so I never really got to see. So when he took me to watch this on 1999, I saw who anakin was and also what Jedi and Sith were. I was instantly hooked. Been a fan ever since!
I really can feel this comment man... Same here. Except my Father had the 4 / 5 / 6 in VHS at home. I was 5 or 6 , he said "wait a minute, im gonna show you something you going to love". He launched the 4th star Wars... At the end of the movie i was a jedi in my head and i was totally sold... I was too young to see the 1st in theater but my dad took me to see the 2nd and the 3d one. Good lord it was some of the best theater experiences in my life especially the 3d one

After watching the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer and hearing Duel of the Fates, I had to come back and watch this. It's arguably John Williams' best work, not just in Star Wars, but overall. I would probably rank this lightsaber duel first on a choreographic standpoint, but overall I'd put this duel fourth behind Battle of the Heroes and both Luke vs Vader duels just because of the emotional impact those three had compared to this duel. Easily the best thing to come out of The Phantom Menace.
This duel didn't age well in terms of choreography in my view, there are a lot of slow and sloppy parts that feel weird, like the bitch slaps when they fall or the first part of Qui Gon vs Maul after the laser barriers, the pace is too slow. Like, look at Obi Wan going at Maul after Qui Gon is defeated, that looks way better, it doesn't look like slow motion. But the significance of it in star wars lore will never be touched, no matter how much Disney wants to destroy it. It is a masterpiece in that sense. It just added to the story in a fantastic way and allowed for further development later on, specially Kenobi killing Maul in the cartoon using Maul's reliance on the same move that killed Qui Gon against him by an older, wiser Kenobi. I do remember me and my brother watching this in the cinema and being absolutely marvelled by it. And the soundtrack... god damn, that is just fantastic.
@@Oakshield2 I think the main reason that the pace was different when Obi-Wan fought Maul as opposed to Qui-Gon is because Obi-Wan tapped into his anger and hatred, even the dark side, to fight Maul which caused the pace to pick up.

Ok so a RUclipsr pointed this out and I’m not gonna try and find out who it was, but they pointed out something really cool about this seen. When ever they get to the segment where they are all separated by the lazer shields, all the characters get really cool characterization. In fact this is one of the few times we get a lot of characterization from the main characters. When separated Maul starts to just pace side to side and stares down the Jedi like a prowling beast ready to jump, obi-wan is very clearly on edge and impatient, and wants to do something as quickly as possible, and his master is calm and collected and is meditating. It’s a shame the whole movie couldn’t be as good as that scene.
I’m pretty sure I read somewhere before that Qui-gon had accepted that he couldn’t defeat Maul alone, and was spending his moments meditating and finding his calm to give it one more effort, and finding peace before it came.
@@dylanmckenzie8566 he should have tried to defend rather than offend which pushed their duel farther from obi wan and closer to the laser walls. that way they could stick together and they would be secluded in the room with the reactor shaft so there was no more moving and maul would be underpowered in the end.
When Sidious sent Maul to Tatooine, he said that the Jedi would be no match for him. Judging by how Maul kept shoving one of them aside, maybe he knew that he wasn’t strong enough to fight both of them at the same time.
I still would say he was pretty good. Everyone who ever fought against two opponents having only one sword/spear (unfortunately or rather fortunately we cannot have lightsabers in real life :D) knows how difficult it is when you cannot cover yourself from the front and back in the same time. With two swords is easier - I guess they could make him to separate his weapon but then fight wouldn't be so spectacular.
I think I read somewhere it was Maul's hubris as well, basically treating Obi-Wan as an afterthought. He wanted to kill the Jedi MASTER. The Padawan would die easy, or so he thought.
This scene alone makes up for the rest of the film. It was what everyone in the theatre was waiting to see. The reveal of darth maul behind the sliding doors, the spikes on his head, and the double saber. Awesome scene. Awesome music.
3:13 fun fact: the actors here were actually told to *slow down* because they were going so fast George didn’t think the audience would believe it was real.
I don't know why but the one part of this fight that always stuck with me was at 0:45 when the music intensifies and all three fighters just stand still for a bit and stare at each other, and yet no words are spoken. Truly a classic.
The combination of Duel of the Fates playing WITH Ray Park's uncanny choreographed fight scenes makes this one of the top 3 fights in the franchise. This was one of the FEW redeeming qualities of the Prequels... and my God one hell of an awesome fight.
I was 29 years old when seeing this in the AMC Theater in Johnson City, TN, and the buzzing and humming sounds of the fight nearly rattled my teeth and made it so much more intense.
You know when the action sequence has literally on word (Obi-Wan's "No!") that you're watching something impressive. When you can tell a story without dialogue, you have succeeded on technical perfection what it comes to story telling. Duel of the Fates is maybe the best example of such expression in audiovisual arts.
What a lot of people don’t understand is how it was possible for Obi-Wan to defeat Maul with that flip move. In the original script, the scene was to be done where all you see is a blur of Kenobi and the next thing you know, Maul is sliced. That’s the one problem I had with how Lucas filmed that scene and the battle between Palpatine and the four council members in ROTS. They easily could’ve done a well choreographed routine and increased the speed so when Anakin arrives, all he would see are sparks of two lights clashing and two blurry figures slipping in and out of sight around the room. That’s how it’s described in the novelization and I think it would’ve been spectacular.
Interesting. That way it would actually make sense. Obi Wan simply used force speed. In the end, however, it always looks illogical, as if Maul had simply fallen asleep ^^
24 years later, the existence of that room with the bottomless pit baffles me. What engineer raised his hand like “when two Jedi and a Sith have a death match, you’ll be glad it’s here.”
Crikey - that good half a minute where Obi Wan was just catching his breath, watching his master and Maul battle it out. If he'd been able to gather himself and find an opening, Qui Gon may not have started to tire - and he may have lived. If I were Obi Wan, that scene would play on in my head for the rest of my life.
The Lazer doors provide one factor to the fight makes it so good. It gives the Actors (and characters) a Break. It even gives the audience a bit of change as the action is stopped for a moment to show what these guys can and Cannot do. Maul testing the barrier shows his impatience, yet his willingness to accept that his Saber can’t cut it. It also gives us a break in between to see what the other characters are up to during the battle happening outside. But once we cut back to this point, we’re thrust into the final duels, and some seriously savage action comes out! No music, just intensity of the stakes! That’s how you do a fight!
Terrible acting, pacing and direction with plot based on bureaucratic trade disputes, plus kid Anakin and Jar Jar were annoying for most people. Only good things were the Obi Wan and Qui-Gon dynamic and Darth Maul. Pod-racing was also pretty cool.
3:20 this HAD to be the part where they’d overcrank the camera and slow down the fight, because everything seemed very fast in that last part of the duel
Really happy that I got to watch this movie in the cinema, now with the 25th anniversary! What an epic sequence! When it was released I was not even born!
It's so sad, that we may watch the only one perfect and true lightsaber fight in the first movie. Maybe someone say - oh nice, it'll be better and better, but no. This is the best fight in whole SW movies and series....
I was a huge star wars fan as a kid and when the prequels were coming out I was so damn excited to see them in the theaters. So happy that Maul's saberstaff wasn't spoiled for me as I don't remember seeing any trailers for the film that spoiled it, I remembered seeing that on the big screen for the first time and It was amazing.
Fun fact, Ray Park, the actor for Darth Maul was an actual martial artist and gymnast. You can tell by how he’s more agile than McGregor and Neeson and his movements with the lightsaber come off as very smooth and natural. He’s also shorter than both Neeson and McGregor, with his height being 5’9. A lot of the best gymnasts and acrobats tend to be shorter, and there’s a reason why. Being shorter actually helps in those fields because it’s easier to move and spin your body with a compact build. Shorter people also tend to have better balance because their center of gravity (which is usually around the abdomen), is lower to the ground, and the lower the center of gravity is to the base of support, the better the balance will be.
I’d like to point out the attention to detail for the shot at 3:20 - I appreciate that the VFX artists made sure to put a subtle reflection of the lightsaber blades into the mirrored metal surface on the ground. That is something that could have been easily overlooked
That was completely clean edit right there. Love that you can see here that Obi Wan is young and using the same technique as his master, who is slower slightly and older, and Maul uses his own style...They both have certain kicks or hits they use physically. Love it.
here just before the kenobi show arrives, had to see this epic fight again. gives me goosebumps to see kenobis rare aggression come out, he wasnt letting darth maul get away with killing his master (although revenge isnt the jedi way, justice infact is)
This was Padawan Obi Wan, before he adopted Soresu into his fighting style and became a more defensive fighter. It’ll be interesting to see how he fights in the Kenobi show

While I genuinely feel a strong dislike for the Phantom Menace, this scene holds up. The choreography, the emotions, the music, everything. It's absolute perfection.
Really glad that you put all of the scenes of the fight together. This is one of my favorite lightsaber fights and it's nice to be able to watch it all without other scenes from the movie in the middle.
I love that little moment at 0:33, where Maul staggers Qui-Gon. At this moment it already becomes apparent, that should one of the two get isolated with this monster, it won't be in their favor

It was in this moment that he saw his own death, hence why he hesitated in combat then promptly got stabbed by maul near the end.

There are people who like The Phantom Menace
But there aren't people who don't like this duel

The fact that even Obi Wan knew he was tapping into his rage to defeat Maul shows how self aware and well rounded he was EVEN AS A PADAWAN this pre Master Kenobi!
Sorry for the long reply, I just love the prequel fights and could talk about them forever lol
The only thing I loved more from this fight is the sound of Darth Maul's lightsaber as he starts swooshing it around.
Maul is one of the greatest duelists in all of Star Wars. I would say only Yoda, Mace and Anakin were better. He went toe-to-toe with Sidious in Clone Wars, to the point Sidious had to resort to the Force to subdue him.

Only problem with this fight is they shouldn’t have killed off darth maul
@@Oakshield2 I think the main reason that the pace was different when Obi-Wan fought Maul as opposed to Qui-Gon is because Obi-Wan tapped into his anger and hatred, even the dark side, to fight Maul which caused the pace to pick up.
@@ethandyer8162 I actually didn't mind. He was great in The Clone Wars and Rebels. He also made a badass cameo in Solo. I liked Count Dooku. Christopher Lee was brilliant.

I really enjoyed the film. Would watch it again.
I remember a similar description in the novelisation, too.
Anakin does the same thing as Maul in ROTS; right before his duel with Obi-Wan on Mustafar.
If you look really carefully at 3:37 - Obi-Wan totally loses grip on his saber and recovers.
Even a legend as a Padawan.

4:23 Obi-Wan's strength combined with Qui-Gon's saber/spirit together that defeated Sith Lord Darth Maul.
When Sidious sent Maul to Tatooine, he said that the Jedi would be no match for him. Judging by how Maul kept shoving one of them aside, maybe he knew that he wasn’t strong enough to fight both of them at the same time.
In the novel, he knew he wasn’t a match for both at the same time but he knew he could if he separated them
I still would say he was pretty good.
The novel said he out both Qui Gon and Obi Wan, so I'd say Sidious was correct. Even Nick Gillard said Maul was the superior duelist to both of them.
Maul knew he couldn’t kill both of them together.. that’s why he kept trying to separate them throughout the duel.
Now I want to see how it would have been
Watch it at 1.25x speed. It's surprising how different it feels. Less superhuman honestly
The next Liam Neeson action movie needs to have Ray Park as the main villain. Rematch of the century, the score to settle the war.

You just had to be there in the theaters in 1999 to appreciate this.
Maul never gives up with his obsession with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Well I think if a guy cut off everything below the waist on me, I'd be pretty serious about being pissed off too. Just sayin'....
He never got over the way Obi-Wan's saber felt inside him...

Can’t watch this without tearing up. The pinnacle of what Star Wars meant to me as a child.
You know when the action sequence has literally on word (Obi-Wan's "No!") that you're watching something impressive.
When you can tell a story without dialogue, you have succeeded on technical perfection what it comes to story telling. Duel of the Fates is maybe the best example of such expression in audiovisual arts.
I was 2 years old when this movie came out. It was a highly anticipated event back in May 1999.
In the end, however, it always looks illogical, as if Maul had simply fallen asleep ^^
sounds like a dbz fight
24 years later, the existence of that room with the bottomless pit baffles me.
What engineer raised his hand like “when two Jedi and a Sith have a death match, you’ll be glad it’s here.”

Crikey - that good half a minute where Obi Wan was just catching his breath, watching his master and Maul battle it out. If he'd been able to gather himself and find an opening, Qui Gon may not have started to tire - and he may have lived. If I were Obi Wan, that scene would play on in my head for the rest of my life.
3:56 Maul’s like "See your lightsaber, it goes bye-bye."
This is So Seamlessly Cut It is Almost as Though This is The Way it Was Filmed
By FAR, the best lightsaber fight. Especially that one on one to finish 😁
The two standard jedi colours green and blue blend very well with a double red saber.
That useless "feint attack" of Obi at 0:46 always gets me haha
And the weird sound he makes, I think the editors tried to make it look as though he got shoved away?
@@onceonly1111 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Lazer doors provide one factor to the fight makes it so good. It gives the Actors (and characters) a Break. It even gives the audience a bit of change as the action is stopped for a moment to show what these guys can and Cannot do.
Maul testing the barrier shows his impatience, yet his willingness to accept that his Saber can’t cut it.
It also gives us a break in between to see what the other characters are up to during the battle happening outside.
But once we cut back to this point, we’re thrust into the final duels, and some seriously savage action comes out! No music, just intensity of the stakes!
That’s how you do a fight!
when I saw this as a kid, it made me love darth maul's double lightsaber. It was by far my favorite. He seemed like such a badass.

Obi-Wan: "Whew, that went better than it should have, he had the high ground. Could've cut me to ribbons if he was ready for it."
I miss when Star Wars was truly just about Star Wars
Shorter people also tend to have better balance because their center of gravity (which is usually around the abdomen), is lower to the ground, and the lower the center of gravity is to the base of support, the better the balance will be.
god I wish the actual movie was edited together this way
Darth Maul using the force with the droid head to open the blast doors is so badass.
Oh that’s what he was doing I thought it was just there for no reason
I’d like to point out the attention to detail for the shot at 3:20 - I appreciate that the VFX artists made sure to put a subtle reflection of the lightsaber blades into the mirrored metal surface on the ground. That is something that could have been easily overlooked
Episode 1 getting better with age
Probably the best lightsaber duel in all 9 movies, the lack of cuts to make it seem epic actually made it more epic lol
That was completely clean edit right there. Love that you can see here that Obi Wan is young and using the same technique as his master, who is slower slightly and older, and Maul uses his own style...They both have certain kicks or hits they use physically. Love it.
I count this as amoung the best sword fights in movies!💀
here just before the kenobi show arrives, had to see this epic fight again. gives me goosebumps to see kenobis rare aggression come out, he wasnt letting darth maul get away with killing his master (although revenge isnt the jedi way, justice infact is)
