- This is a walkthrough/playthrough on expert of the SNES game Star Fox 2. This is a game that never actually came out, and yet it's fully playable. You also see two members of the Star Fox team that never made it in any other game.
It's a shame that the game never came out. It just needed a bit more polish, and I think it would have been great. You can see elements of this game in the later Star Fox games. It's a shame though that Fay and Miyu got forgotten though....
Jeremy(Saikyomog) passed away 02/20/15. Everyone please see Saikyomog A Dad's Remembrance ruclips.net/video/JW2JXL2erLw/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/t-seAIeu3Og/видео.html.
We have kept open a Guest Book for anyone who wishes to make a comment regarding Jeremy. Eventually this will be put together in a keepsake book. www.legacy.com/guestbooks/greenbaypressgazette/jeremy-soncrant-condolences/174206022?&eid=sp_gbupdate
Lol it seems a bit late to be bringing that up. The sorry window's closed on that one.
blue red He's one of the only people to chi through Front Mission Gunhazard and have it recorded on RUclips. You should watch through it.
It came out only in Japan.
SaikyoMog would be so proud to see this game released if he's still here with us today.... RIP.
@@rachelegro7388 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Jeremy would have been glad to hear that another fan of the older games had watched. I thank you for the kind RIP. Jeremy’s dad
6 years later after this was made, Star Fox 2 will be officially releasing in September via SNES Classic. The reason I will remember it, is because of your gameplay.
Thank you
Rest in peace
"its a shame that the game never came out" *6 years after this video* snes classic
It still blows my mind that the SNES was capable of running something like this.
I think that was part of why it didn't come out. The Super FX chips were xtremely expensive and this was pushing the limits of those chips. So putting that together they probably felt production wouldn't at least meet costs, and scrapped it.
Actually read a smidge more. So also a large portion was Nintendo wanting a clear break from 2D to 3D, decided it was better to cancel the title... Why they don't just virtual shop it now is beyond me though.
+Dustin Simpson its because they dont have the lisence and the company that have it is extinct, so estar fox 2 is in a dead end
+carso1500 star fox 2 not estar
Blarghalt
If only you had lived long enough to see Star Fox 2 officially released. Thank you for the awesome gameplay SaikyoMog. Rest In Peace buddy.
I sure also wish Jeremy was still here. I still miss him every day. Jeremy's dad
Guess what?! The TRUE, COMPLETE version of Star Fox 2 is coming to the SNES Mini!
EDIT: Just realized that the original posted has since passed. How tragic. :(
Devinthedude yes, and the guy playing the game. Rip
Gil Cecil
What happened to both?
Emerald it's the same guy, and he died from cancer. Rip man
Gil Cecil
Why always cancer :(
It's officially coming out in 2017...22 years after it was supposed to....i can die happy...
After the SNES Classic announcement, I'm looking forward to see those two female characters again.
AM I The Only one who is Still BLOWN AWAY over the fact that
ARWINGS HAVE GERWALK MODE like ROBOTECH/MACROSS(Japan)!!!!!???????
WHY WASNT this brought over to N64??? or any of the NEW Star Fox Games?????
Actually, according to an interview included with the official game guide, Miyamoto wanted to bring it along to the N64 originally; however he felt it would be redundant with the Landmaster and Aqua Marine. He felt the other two vehicles made more sense from a level design perspective (and because he felt they were cooler) so stayed with them.
gcook725 Apparently he's bringing the concept of transforming Arwings back for the Wii U game, though it turns into the Landmaster rather than a mech.
Cheeseman man why cant it be a Mech? it makes more since for Gerwalk. Japan knows this thanks to Macross. aint that show allready Godlike famous in Japan anyway? they should be Raised up knowing that idea is awesomer lololol
anyway. a Arwing turning into a Landmaster Tank???? that would look stupid. the Treds hanging under neith the wings or belly of the ship??? weird and uncool looking. just make the wings drop like feet. that makes more since. i rather have the arwing be an Big Bird Austrig looking thing instead of a weird rolling tank ship thingy lol
ok i have to emit its alittle retarded too for the wings.
but then again its worster as a tank too. so i rather go Legs then treds lol
PLUS i can walk up hill. and i know what ur thinking. a tank can go threw small rooms more then a Walking Mech.
Well ADD A CROUCH Feature for the Walker. or turn it back to Arwing and drive slow threw the area and slowly transform the legs back onto the ground again. lol Man i need to send this to Nintendo lol
I must say, these graphics are amazing for SNES. Wow.
Knux576 the improved frame rate made it years ahead of star fox 1
The similarities between this and Zero are amazing - so many ideas I though were new, already done in a game that didnt make it to the mainstream.
This would pass for early PS1. It's insane what they packed into a SNES game, of all things.
+Dan Root nintendo developed a special chip JUST for this game and the previous one.
+logan cameron Doom used the same chip as Star Fox 2...
+yoyoyoshio267 As did Yoshi's Island.
DylanDude For the sprite manipulation, I swear that game looks as good as a Flash game
See, with just a bit of extra power, there's really no need for an entire new system. Some of a console's best games come later in its life.
Woah... this really pushes the boundaries of what you could expect from the SNES :O
This game has officially been confirm for the Snes Classic console from Nintendo. September 29 to the end of this year. here are the complete list.
Contra III: The Alien Wars
Donkey Kong Country
EarthBound
Final Fantasy III
F-Zero
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dream Course
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox
Star Fox 2
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV
Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Punch-Out
Yoshi's Island
furrynick yep!
This game looks pretty amazing for its time! I like the idea of a transforming star fighter for air and land. That could have been so much cooler than the Land Master in Assault.
Then comes star fox zero
It'd be nice if this idea was revived for a Star Fox 3DS. Not the N64 remake. I mean an actual 3DS Star Fox.
I can't believe this is finally being released after 22 years
It's been 3 years. Thank you so much for the wonderful gameplays.
It has a very improved frame rate compared to Star Fox. Also the graphics are like, how the heck does that exist on a Snes. It's good because it's different from other Star Fox games too. More tactical. :D
This is most likely being emulated ,and the emulator is actually faster than a real SNES. Also the original starfox on the SNES had really low frame rates.
Had to come back to this after they announced Star Fox 2 is actually coming out.
Poor guy finished the game and then they never released it...why? because they wanted 3D games to come out for the Nintendo 64...lame lol
They should release it on the Virtual Console.
actually he did release it as Starfox DS (Starfox Command), YEARS afterwards. Look up some history around it, its quite interesting :)
snes classic finally granted our wish owo
It's interesting to see how heavily this game inspired future Star Fox titles. Very cool. I must admit, as impressive as this game looks, and as interesting as it may be, the gameplay itself doesn't necessarily seem like an improvement on the previous title. I mean, Star Fox was arguably repetitive, but it's far more easy to keep an on-rails shooter interesting than a game that forces the player to meander around and kill everything in the designated area fifteen times over.
Regardless, gotta give oldschool Nintendo credit for diversifying their sequels.
And Star Fox Command
I still fail to see Nintendo's logic in cancelling this. I get that Starfox 64 was in production and for all intents and purposes, was a superior game.
But here you have what was a finished (I think?) game that could have still generated some profit from those aching for either more Starfox action or something to play on the SNES.
It just seems like a waste of time and money.
+soniclover88888
Well, according to the Wiki, the programmers didn't get paid when Miyamoto canceled Star Fox 2 and used its codes for Star Fox 64. So I'm sure there's some kind of contractual obligation making Nintendo hesitant about releasing Star Fox 2. Probably would have to pay those old programmers their justified dues. Pretty messed up.
*****
Hard to say without ever having played it, but I'd argue that Star Fox 2 seems to be a bit tedious.
Granted, Star Fox and Star Fox 64 were equally if not more repetitious in gameplay objectives, but they also set a very keen precedent of linearity used to a game's advantage. Being an on-rail shooter, Star Fox on the SNES and N64 allowed a deliberate and sequential flow that engaged the player directly as opposed to a game that drops you into a 3D room to meander around and shoot all the things fifteen times over.
Of course, that's a oversimplified summary of Star Fox 2. It's a very impressive looking game and had game mechanics that continue to inspire gameplay mechanics in sequel titles to this very day, but I wouldn't call the game an objective improvement. Just very unique. I mean, it's essentially Starfox Assault, right?
+Ralph Wiggum
Indeed, all of the boss fights that have yet been shown feature the all-range mode as opposed to the traditional 2D faceoff, which is great. It allows for way more interesting scenarios that require maneuvering, aiming, and tending to surrounding enemies as opposed to the oldschool viewpoint that limited most of the bosses to a single strategy of just waiting for the weak spot to show.
+soniclover88888 they said star fox 2 would release in 1995 that was the first release date they had in mind but it sucks that this was cancelled I cry everytime
I can't wait to play the full version of this game on the SNES Classic!
Absolutely incredible graphics for the SNES. such a shame this was cancelled. Looks absolutely brilliant.
fun fact: In 2017, Nintendo official released this game via SNES Classic edition.
how when nintendo is just now releasing star fox 2 it just announced on the mini snes classic.....
Here we have a fully finished game where all they had left to do was translate it, only to likely never see the light of day until the internet got ahold of it
+MrBoomboomtime2 there are no stages... how can you say it's a finished game ?? 2 shitty and repetitive sequences (battle in space & tunnel) don't make a finished game...
+Barbie Chêtif There were never going to be stages. The map screen and the battle sequences were going to be all you do. It's not a traditional Star Fox
This is not a finished game. One of the people that helped make it says he has a private copy that has more content and fewer bugs.
It's close, but it's not finished.
The game was finished but the ROMs that you can download are older versions that are not completely finished.
when could we get the finished rom ???
Anyone else just now watching this video after learning of this being included with the SNES mini release? Haha
A shame Nintendo had to cancel it because with the N64 coming out at the time, it would not sell because people would move on.
Just like how _Wario's Woods_ was the last ever NES (8-bit) title released because Nintendo was still focusing on both the SNES and the still impending N64.
I have came from the future to tell you that the public can now play it!
it's finnaly bieng released after all this time😭😭
Even though this was close to the n64 release when it was scrapped, nintendo still would have made a killing on this game, even if they gave it an official release now as a download for the wii U and charged $10, they would still make a killing. Why Nintendo Why?????!
Kyle Cook They just announced it for the snes mini so you are in luck
Kyle Cook Hello, I come from the future. Nintendo decided to release it.
TayoEXE good one
The Time is right for Star Fox 2 ! Only on the Super Nintendo Classic Edition
Kyle Cook Because they had difficulty emulating the Super FX chip on Wii U.
This will be released on the SNES classic, which is kinda cool. Wish I had this as a kid though, looks pretty neat.
SNES classic mini.
It's already been said before, but I think it's worth repeating when I say if this game were to be polished up a bit and packaged with the Wii U _Star Fox_ as an unlockable or even as a $5-10 game on eShop, I'd totally buy it. I haven't played any _Star Fox_ game since the original _64_, and after seeing what they did with the series I'm kind of glad I stayed away. This looks like it got everything about "mission" levels that _Command_ would later botch up by not featuring incredibly long levels with 10,000 floors of enemies. Glad elements of it showed up in _64_, at least.
Here's an idea;
Kick-start the series again, but with this game in MODERN 3D!! But it would need to be called something different from Starfox 2...perhaps Starfox 6? This game, if it were released, would have mmade the franchise have 6 games, so why not?
Star Fox 0 is litteraly SF6
Yeah, I suppose the cramped spaces is a downer...
However, having played this, it's interesting to see what was taken from it in the later Star Fox games.
The fact that this game wasn't on rails really dampened the excitement that the original starfox offered. In fact, I absolutely hated the "all range" missions in SF64. I think that's why I fell in love with Omega Boost; it brought to life what the original Starfox was known for.
So this is basically what Star Fox Zero is. (Wii U).
THANK YOU STAR FOX ZERO for bringing this concept back into the game!
Star Fox Command first and then Zero.
Yea
Blaze Folf I just hope that someday we could say the same thing about the characters.
so cool seeing the targeting system used in starfox 64 in this. thanks for uploading. we missed out on a great game.
Would be a nice treat if it came packaged with the new Wii u game.
id be so happy lol
it come out
This game was originally going to be released in around 1995 or so,there was even a tech demo shown to the public at that time (a man even got famously arrested for attempting to steal a copy of the said demo). Eventually,Star Fox 2 came out (along with 20 other games) on the SNES Mini in 2016 (I got the info about this while reading a book entitled "Playing With SUPER POWER",which has stuff about various popular titles for the SNES,along with showing unused stuff and how to perform some glitches,etc.).
Now this game is finally coming out on the snes classic!
I'm glad people can make repro carts of this today. I'm going to get one eventually to play on my original snes.
This game is really impressive for it's time. It's almost unheard of for a SNES title to feature cinematic cuts like this game does.
I almost want to say "behold! the origins of the Land Master!"
I wish I could play this on the SNES Classic.
wow!! now that is impressive :) i loved my snes. this would have absolutely melted my face when i was a chlid. i love all the textures on screen and the collision physics
22:30 I never knew the Arwing walker could swim man that’s a cool animation
Who would of guess after all these years, it's finally getting a release on the SNES Classic Edition.
Miyu and Fay need to appear and make official appearances as Members of Star Fox. They would be good additions and bring something unique to the cast
Does Bill Gray and Kat Monroe looks familiar to you
Frøck I know they are considered replacements but Miyu and Fay still should've been official
And Krystal Girlfriend (Fox's Wife) Star Fox Here's Saurian On Tricky
So this is from where starfox command was inspired by.
Yea that's what i tought as well
I just finished this game. Falco and Miyu rocks and rules!!!
and that'S really freaking cool!!! i never knew thatwe would have went into the other planets in this game ^^
Well, this was going to be released, that's for sure. Still a shame it wasn't. There's a ton of little things found in this game that were used in future titles.
I've come from the future.
This game is being released soon!
This is an SNES?Holy crap it looks amazing
Never thought I'd see the arwing turn into a mecha-style walker, interesting idea.
So happy I managed to find a repro cartridge of this! :)
Crystal Beale No really where and how much?
I bought it from Timewalk Games when they were still a website. It was about $100, I think. I dont' know where you could get one now, but I'm sure you could find a copy with a bit of internet sleuthing.
after a full decade official release of star fox 2 is coming
on the Snes classic
wow this game would have been an all time classic
Well, it was never officially released. But somehow a rom of it was found floating around the internet, and the rest is history....
This plays a little bit like StarFox Command
this looks brilliantly done
.Star Fox 2 was an impressive game no doubt. But its amazing what 2 years can do in the technology world after Star Fox 1. When the Playstation launched and the Nintendo 64 was announced, it made Star Fox 1 and 2 look like they were titles with melted deformed Lego on your TV screen.
When Air Combat (Ace Combat) was out as a demo at Toys R Us, it blew Star Fox away.
But that just me.
+Charlie Cat
F22 Interceptor on SEGA Genesis made Star Fox look Dated
+Mr.Dr.Professor Toaster Ive googled reviews on that, and cant find a single positive one....
Michiel VDK
Really?
I fucking loved that game!
The game looks cool! I already played it on the SNES Classic
Whoa. Venom. You, uh, got a gardener... but soon you'll be, umm, barren, I guess.
I don't know if I like how it seems to play. I mean, where are the classic stages where you just *fly* in a rails-like fashion and blast everything along the way? The alternative gameplay-styled stages in SF64 were cool because they weren't the main game, but this looks like is just a bunch of those stages. I'm not sure if this could how up if released.
oh wow, the chicken ship from star fox Zero is from this game? that's awesome! also this game has some cool ideas but i can see why they scrapped it.
While the game was never officially released, the rom of the game is available for download if you can find it.
"We're sorry, you made the game too good so we're not releasing it". It's similar to how there's so little available on the 3DS and Wii U VC because the newer games aren't much more than reskinned 16 bit games.
No problem. Thanks for watching my video. As I tell everyone who makes a comment about talking, I always tell them that I doubt people want to hear me go on and on and on. I have a rather low scruffy voice (I've been compared to Sam Elliot from Road House) If people want to hear my opinion on certain matters or have questions, they just have to leave a comment.
I might one day take videos I have and re-upload with commentary (if certain conditions are met), but I wouldn't drab on and on...
I'm sure I would've enjoyed this game had it come out, but since it didn't, Star Fox 64 ended up feeling like a fresher game experience being only the second game in the series as opposed to the third time around.
This game becomes the Star-Fox attics game we know today...
*addicts
So this is basically where the concept for Star Fox Command on the DS came from, then? Cool beans...
in a sense. honestly, I see a LOT of starfox 64 in this game as well; besides Wolf, Andrew, Pigma, and Leon. As far as i'm concerned the base missions stayed somewhat the same and the carriers were turned into sectors X Y and Z
31:42 And the wittle piggy cried, "Wee, wee, wee!!!!"
I used to own a copy of it back in the day and played it all the time. I'm looking into doing N64 games, so perhaps eventually when the time is right...
This game is officially being released on the mini snes!
Snes classic announcement today. Includes STARFOX 2!
This video is gonna blow up.
I have to say, I really like how this game looks. It's really more of a tactical flight game than the rail-shooter that the first was. I really need to play this one.
Though with that, I hate to see the rail-shooting levels go. There's not as much of a spectacle with seeing a new world in this as there is with the original. Like the all-range sections of Starfox 64, the stages are really small and cramped, so it seems like you never really get a chance to spread your literal wings.
The graphics on this are nice. Nintendo could have released this and it would have held strong, in my opinion. But, hopefully now they remake this for the Switch and jump start Star Fox back into our lives.
Very very impressive. (Holy framerate, surprised it runs though)
Jeremy passed away 02/20/15. Everyone please see
Saikyomog A Dad's Remembrance ruclips.net/video/JW2JXL2erLw/видео.html and
ruclips.net/video/t-seAIeu3Og/видео.html
+SaikyoMog Who are you talking about?
+yoyoyoshio267 Saikyomog was my son Jeremy. Since he died I have been keeping the channel busy and answering questions using his screen name. There are about 10 more videos he left unpublished. I upload one around the 15th of each month, in fact I am going to do so later today. Jeremy's Dad
+SaikyoMog Oh, I didn't realize, sorry
+SaikyoMog This makes me wanna hug my dad right now.
+MoldyBubbles Then you should hug him if you can. He is lucky he still has you. Jeremy's Dad
duuude this game looks way more sick than the first game, im so fucking stumped it didn’t get released. this would’ve blown every one’s socks off if it came out.... what a shame
It did eventually release. If you have Switch Online or an SNES Classic, you can play it right now.
I know hindsight is 20-20, but nintendo was stupid to scrap a COMPLETED game...I get the whole N64 thing, but there was an 18 month period that this game wouldve had before the N64 came out, plenty of time for this game to make money for the company...
They game wasn't completed, it was a decently good distance from completed
If this came out when I was a kid I would have been all about this. Music isnt best but damn it looks fun
11:38 = lol angry turret told that new "squad" to get lost in a painful way! XD
I know that! I'm too eager for it to come out! By the way, I mentioned your comment during my Star Fox 64 LP. I'll have it out soon if ya wanna see it.
It's floating around the internet. Should be easy enough to find.
It took a bit of practice. Obviously not everyone will choose the characters I did. I happen to like Miyu quite a bit. A shame she didn't make it past this game...
Starfox fans (even today) are really missing out on a lot of story and character development. As a starfox fan, I'm so sad that this game was cancelled! X(
Regardless of Nintendo 64 coming out right around the time of this game. N64 ultimately came out in 1996 and Star Fox 64 in 1997. I fail to see why this game couldn't have been released when it was intended to come out in 1995 for the SNES.
This game makes 3D on the SNES look incredibly easy.
same here. but keep in mind this wasn't a finished product, so the mastering of sound probably wasn't nearly complete, same with graphics.
Thanks for the upload, and nice run. :)
Star Fox 2 is released in Japan only on Super Famicom.
Wow it's amazing that a snes could have 3d graphics
WOLF
Can't let you do that,Star Fox!
They had the game fully complete, they just wanted to make room for the n64. Imagine how ridiculous it would've been if that happened in this day and age
