My Lord..., Joe Sample was just KILLIN' it on the piano solo! I miss Al Jarreau and Joe Sample and this whole era of music, but what a blessing to be able to watch this.
Yes both are masters beyond compare. I watched both of them perform together in Rotterdam, Holland back in 1992 - they were smoking!! RIP Al Jarreau and Joe Sample.
Yes-- Master musicians-- they bring back great memories--the days of my youth--back in the 1970s-- I think of Al--Joe Sample--Larry Carlton--Steely Dans Aja album-- many others- Michael Franks-- Return to Forever-- Weather Report-- so many great artists- George Duke-- Patrice Rushen--Herbie and Chick--Miles-- so much time has passed-- but you young students of American music--have a great legacy to explore-- there are so many beautiful musical artifacts to discover- so enjoy the journey--
The late great MR.AL Jarreau can not be/ could never be duplicated a sho nuff one of a kind voice. Al right there, Joe Sample, those piano 🎹 🎹 keys belong to you,and give that drummer more than some. GOOD VIVEBRATIONS!!!
RIP Chick Corea. Another great has left us. “It is my hope that those who have an inkling to play, write, perform or otherwise, do so. If not for yourself then for the rest of us. It’s not only that the world needs more artists, it’s also just a lot of fun.” Chick Corea 2021.
I guess im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me
Miss Al's voice. IT was like he had several instruments....and knew how to play each one....splendidly, and most excellently! You and your golden voice may rest in peace, Al. Thank You.
Al Jarreau was not only a masterful entertainer and singer, but I understand him to have helped my favorite musician, Sir Michael Paulo, gain international attention. Now Paulo is one of the, if not the greatest jazz musician in the world. Jarreau was well educated, very handsome, and mot importantly, a decent and gracious human being. So is Michael Paulo. i wish there were more people like them in the world.
this is an enigmatic piece of music. al jarreau soars over Chick Coreas timeless flamenco progressive jazz masterpiece. vocal acrobatics that are not just megaton shreds, but also nuanced in its syllable by syllable perfection. RIP Chick Corea and Al Jarreau, the world is so much more beautiful with their music in it.
Live Under The Sky festivals hosted some of the greatest performances from the 80's to the early 90's. That large hall reverb really brings more depth to the mix. Classic 90's man. Nothing beats the primitiveness in the old school music. Real musicians, real music.
I'm Brazilian, originally from Rio de Janeiro, and listening to Al Jarreau is one of the great musical wonders, this musicality, this typical swing of black American music, I feel extremely in a musical trance (laughs) if this feeling exists.
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL to rediscover my favorite artist, Al Jarreau, doing what he did best, and accompanied by one of my favorite drummers STEVE GADD, he's a monster drummer!! And from my hometown Rochester, NY!
2021, Chick Correa, Joe Sample, Al Jarreau it's like some of life's beauty and Joy is gone when some of the finest musicians are gone 💔😢May they RIP! I believe only Steve Gadd is still here.
REST IN PEACE CHICK COREA. Thanks for all the great music. I saw Al Jarreau here in Orlando before he passed and he joked about having to send Chick a check every time he played this song. WOW! What magic! Now Chick, Al and Joe are playing with the Big Band Upstairs. We will never forget you.
Creativity and perfection. The high level of musicianship demonstrated here boggles the mind, especially from Jarreau, Sample, Gadd. In addition, one of my favorite guitarists, Buzzy Feiten, also plays. My only regret is Buzzy did not get a solo.
Only a gifted singer with an extraordinary voice can sing this kind. And I don't think anyone can except Al Jarreau.Very wonderful music. Wonderful band members, AL Jarreau is a wonderful singer.
Simply the best of the best.......Al Jarreau and Joe Sample. What a treat to see this video of the best at work doing and giving their all to the craft/gift of music!!! Thanks for the memories and the music that will always live on in our hearts and minds forever and ever a true fan!!!! RIP my friends of music like yours!!!!
....and Lenney Castro on percs filled the gap....thankyou CK for all your master pieces...and Al .. thank you for putting words to "spain" and as always...amazing delivery.....
Touch of steve gadd is awesome. Just love his style .al jarreau vocals is out of the WORLD. Had the privilege of watching him live in Mumbai and meet him in person. God bless his soul
I love this - and always will. The great Al Jarreau, Joe Sample on piano and Steve Gadd on drums, not to mention Philippe Saisse on keyboards. What I’d have given to be at this fabulous gig. Wonderful...brighter days.🌞🙏👍🇬🇧🌞
And if that wasnt enough, how bout Ready Freddie Washington on bass. Of Patrice Rushin, Herbie Hancock, Steely Dan (live) to name just a few. The best thing about the old jazz festivals is all these world class cats would come together and collaborate with each other live. Pretty much ad hoc with nearly no rehearsal time. Definitely missing that element these days.
I couldn’t agree more. I suppose that’s what makes them timeless. Herbie I’ve seen, and now Walter Becker has died, I’ll never see Steely Dan with him in it. "I learned at a very young age that music teaches you about life. When you're in the midst of improvisation, there is no yesterday and no tomorrow-there is just the moment that you are in.”Charlie Haden - Jazz bass player.
This my first time seeing Spain live! U have always loved al but seeing this with joe and Steve made me cry they were just Master Beautiful and al at the end. Speechless love it
Dude. Ed Zachary. Watched a vid of Mr Pure Energy and Katrina Verlade (looks much younger) in New York live. Was amazed at both of them, thought let me go to the original, and man am I glad!!! Katrina Verlade fan from South Africa.
There never was another better and there never will be another Al. RIP Al, you are still so loved, as much for your caring heart as for your great music.
Just adore when Steve ends his solo marking the downbeat for the 2 bar break with WOW and Al runs to the mic! At that moment we all know who is THE BOSS! 🥁😎
Every body was a giant here.. but man that drum solo was just i never heard anything like this before .. best drumer ever .. and al jarreau is a beast !
Having already heard this countless times already, Mr. Jarreau's "UH HUH" at the beginning still makes me laugh, he knew they were about to do something incredible up there haha
La version de Stevie wonder de son concert de Londres est meilleure à mon avis. En revanche le solo de piano de Joe Sample est tout simplement génial. Bonjour de France 🇫🇷
I got teary eyed watching this. Not just from Joe Sample and Al not being with us anymore but because this music brought such joy.

I agree. I'm in my 60s and this is what real music is and should be. God bless you and all the musicians. I love you.
Thanks for those beautiful words :)
Steve Gadd is from another planet. That drum solo was out of this world.
The movie Hildago..where the horse was running like motor. Reminds me of this drum solo! Awesome
そんなオーバーに言わなくても😄
‼️ほんまや😭‼️
Steve Gadd is what a drummer should be. Marvelous!!!
Exactly
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

He truly used his voice as an instrument. R.I.P.🙏🏻
Joe Sample and then Steve Gadd.... speechless... monsters... nothing but love for those guys... Al is missed forever
RIP Chick Corea. Another great has left us. “It is my hope that those who have an inkling to play, write, perform or otherwise, do so. If not for yourself then for the rest of us. It’s not only that the world needs more artists, it’s also just a lot of fun.” Chick Corea 2021.

No one doe Spain like Al Jarreau. I really can feel the rhythm of this rendition.
WRONG ...Gary Valencionos version crushed Al Jearraus version...
No one comes close.
Gary Valenciano from the Philippines did!
Gary V’s version doesn’t even come close..😂
My dad’s version did. 😆😆😆
Now this is what you call “Greatness” Musicians playing their hearts out! What a performance 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Al Jarreau, Joe Sample, and now recently joined by David Sanborn, creating wonderful music in heaven. Rest in peace to these maestros!
😢too true
真夏の夜に、こんな素晴らしい演奏を、あの「オープン」な野外ステージで聞くことができたなんて、

This will forever be the best version of Spain
This one is fantastic for many reasons, but this "other" one is pretty special too... ruclips.net/video/_o2RS8WfcbY/видео.html
Saw Jarreau in LA in 81. Stunning concert. He’s one of the greatest artists of my lifetime. I never tire of hearing his music.
Al Jarreau sang so physically, it was a workout for him. Miss him so much, we are fortunate we were able to attend one of his show in Sunrise, Fl.
Whatta song, best version in all time Spain🎶🎶🎶🎶💖💖💖🙏🙏🙏🙏
Al Jareau is a world caliber jazz vocalist, I will not forget your works, you are the best of the best

Dancing and 😊
Gymnastic without money is for the poor people 😮
Get through it in doing your work
What a star performance!! Sample, Gadd, Jarreau, and the rest... Definitely going to see guys "Live" in heaven.
There will never be another Al Jarreau ! He plays with the angels now!
Goosebumps and smiling from the beginning to end of the video! What a beautiful band. RIP Al Jarreau 💜
God bless him forever. Sang me through a very bad marraige to Brighter days! Things would have ended very badly without AL. That whole album was fire!
This is just so damn musical and so good. Must have been just prime joy to be here on a summer eve.
Creativity and perfection. The high level of musicianship demonstrated here boggles the mind, especially from Jarreau, Sample, Gadd. In addition, one of my favorite guitarists, Buzzy Feiten, also plays. My only regret is Buzzy did not get a solo.
But Buzzy stated the opening theme on classical nylon-string guitar!
@@JohnWilmerding True. I still would have loved to hear one of Buzzy's probing, emotional solos.

Favourite song of all time by Al especially Gadd on the drums & the rest! A Masterpiece RIP!
Steve Gadd murdered those drums and Joe killed that piano and noone sings Spain like Al Jarreau live or recorded
Steve Gadd aka GOD!
....and Lenney Castro on percs filled the gap....thankyou CK for all your master pieces...and Al .. thank you for putting words to "spain" and as always...amazing delivery.....
@@Paultblk Love the shot of Castro over Gadd's shoulder, such a cool solo
@@Paultblk That reminds me of the percussionist in the recording of Lingus. He really elevated the whole vibe of the song.

His voice so amazing. Remarkable how he can shift the quality of the vocals so spontaneously while hitting the notes perfectly and staying in rhythm.
What a voice and cover of Spain! The best song for a best country.

Al non era una voce, era una Orchestra!!!l'ho ascoltato dal vivo varie volte:un incantatore!!!un fenomeno unico.
A force of nature. Miss him. Agree with the other comments here- thankfully we have these clips to inspire!
Al Jarreau and Ella Fitzgerald had the finest skat voice's bar none... This concert is real music by real musicians....🎶🙏🎶
👏
Can't believe I've never heard this version, but that's ok. I needed it today! Thank you Al Jarreau, rip.
This my first time seeing Spain live! U have always loved al but seeing this with joe and Steve made me cry they were just Master Beautiful and al at the end. Speechless love it

Rest In Paradise, AL... You are Truly One of the BEST that ever did it. ☝🏿🖤💯
I'm listening this music for the first time, and I have to say: that's one of the best intros I've ever heard!
Poetic, brillant. Unique.
The outro ain't half bad either
I just thinking this intro 😮 i felt so good
year after year still makes me dancing on my shoulders, awestruck at their passion for the moment, and wistful of the bygone greatness.
I would normally say vocalese on Spain is unnecessary, but Al always makes me rethink my boundaries. Wow.
Vocalese is an art within itself (Eddie Jefferson), the King!!!! And AL jereau.....will forever be a legend.
Three great Titans of Jazz have left the room - God Bless their Eternal Souls, Chic, Joe and Al.
Gary Valeciano brought me here. And I never regret but cherish this for a lifetime.

¡Se me encuera el chino! ¡Qué suerte de los que estuvieron allí!
Escuchando desde Cuautitlan Izcalli, Mexico.
The best to ever do it.. he got me through so many dark moments..

That keyboard sound in the first 5 seconds......
Classic band and tunes, especially with Al's unique and priceless voice. Missed his voice.....
Sounded like Tom Brooks of integrity music
@@jacobayeni7834 yes, it is similar but Tom Brooks used MIDI for several albums. Like Ron Kenolly's Jesus Is Alive and Don Moen's Eternal God album

Al Jarreau took human voice to a level higher and clearer and just plain better than most.

Im here because Chick has left us. Today Im sad. RIP Chick.
I dont know any singer who can approximate Al Jarreau, i.e. technique.
The composer and vocalist of this amazing song have both left us.
I'm so glad that i born at 85... So i can become part of people who enjoy such good song.
This is what serious music is all about. Unbelievable!
the goat of jazz, joe, steve, and of course the greatest Al Jarreau
Theres never been anyone that good, and never will be anyone that good again.
