It’s just testing at minimal speed at the moment. Sort of like a ‘burn in’ for LIMS. They don’t test at full speed for weeks. The same with that new chain lift.
The moment I heard a year ago the launched lift was going bye bye I _knew_ whatever replaced it would be slow, like a chain lift. The launched lift was definitely a kick-ass part of this coaster & one of it's main features & extremely unique among roller coasters, too bad it's gone now. Nearly every one of the 500 plus coasters I've ridden I judge based on what happens _after_ the lift hill. Lightning Rod will now have to join that crowd. This is a kick-ass coaster after it's lift, full of airtime, speed & intensity laid out beautifully in a giant ravine. I'm a wood coaster guy so it doesn't matter as much to me, Thunderhead is 90% of my reason for a trip to Dollywood.
Thanks for the update. A little bit of advice: the music that starts @0:06 overpowers the voiceover to the point where I (and perhaps others) can’t understand a word you’re saying. Maybe knock back the volume of that until the drums kick in @0:16 and THEN crank it up.
I think people need to get it out of their head that it’s a launched roller coaster. Now it’s not anymore and it’ll never be again. There’s no reason to act like five-year-olds throwing a temper tantrum over something that’s not gonna go back to where it was.
its still early, it won't go full speed yet
It opened today, and yep, that was full speed lol

Thanks for having half a brain.. this is a hard concept for alot of people
It’s initial phases of testing. Not going full speed on the lift hill yet.

1 Word Outstanding
The comments were really hoping that wasn’t the speed….
Early phases of testing. They won't have the chain lift go full speed yet. Entirely normal.
I think of Hulk first when I think of launched lift hill. It's its most iconic feature
It would be awesome if they used a cable lift and make it go fast like on Skyrush
Well better than a japan togo coaster lift....
it’s just started testing…

If you don’t like it, don’t ride it anymore
Also its still gonna hit the same top speed lightning rod was never slowed down thoosies are just dumb ngl
