Many officials attending with him travel in the other cars, or various staff that aren't all required at some destinations. All depends on the city & where they can safely stay. Many stay at the airport, many stay at the 'hotel' if not needed on hand, many have meetings elsewhere & many travel back to Air Force One before him. Many political destinations are fully equipped for the staff cars. Still they'd be dropped off directly, and a handful of vehicles and security would park where he is (embassy, parliament, wherever), the less important people's vehicles would have an assigned area aside ahead of time secured & the rest would go to where they'd normally be when he's not there if they're not going to be needed again. Over half the motorcycle police would be gone the moment they're not needed to clear the roads & block off side streets ahead. They're just closer together in the city as a certain distance has to be blocked off. It's extremely inconvenient to shut down city streets for very long, but outer city streets and highways can be. Ironically it's less inconvenient & annoying and cheaper to have them all go at once. If it's an hour to the airport on a high speed road, it'll be blocked off (at least forward of the president) and a certain distance will be covered by the motorcade before it's opened behind them. Because that is done, that is why emergency vehicles travel in the motorcade. The traffic, as you could imagine, is terrible where it's not blocked off so if there was a fire or medical emergency they'd take ages to get there. The amount of Emergency treatment vehicles will generally give you an idea how many really important people are travelling. I will concede that San Fran must be a difficult city to move through for the Secret Service. Logistically it'd be awful to plan. I'm of the thinking, stuff going from airports outside cities to travel like this into inherently 'unsafe' cities for meetings, lol.

The thing is, when President moves freely around like this, everyone can plan to kill him, especially when it's an official trip (because people know where he's going and the American flag is on the President's car). However, when he walks in a burger, two elements are reducing risks : people have probably been checked before by the Secret Service and the entrance was blocked until the President arrives. So, when he gets there, he doesn't need to have hundreds of bodyguards around him. You don't see from the video's perspective, however, that the whole street is blocked outside. Plus, these visits are usually unexpected so it's hard for any crazy guy to plan anything.

Many officials attending with him travel in the other cars, or various staff that aren't all required at some destinations. All depends on the city & where they can safely stay. Many stay at the airport, many stay at the 'hotel' if not needed on hand, many have meetings elsewhere & many travel back to Air Force One before him. Many political destinations are fully equipped for the staff cars. Still they'd be dropped off directly, and a handful of vehicles and security would park where he is (embassy, parliament, wherever), the less important people's vehicles would have an assigned area aside ahead of time secured & the rest would go to where they'd normally be when he's not there if they're not going to be needed again. Over half the motorcycle police would be gone the moment they're not needed to clear the roads & block off side streets ahead. They're just closer together in the city as a certain distance has to be blocked off. It's extremely inconvenient to shut down city streets for very long, but outer city streets and highways can be. Ironically it's less inconvenient & annoying and cheaper to have them all go at once. If it's an hour to the airport on a high speed road, it'll be blocked off (at least forward of the president) and a certain distance will be covered by the motorcade before it's opened behind them. Because that is done, that is why emergency vehicles travel in the motorcade. The traffic, as you could imagine, is terrible where it's not blocked off so if there was a fire or medical emergency they'd take ages to get there. The amount of Emergency treatment vehicles will generally give you an idea how many really important people are travelling. I will concede that San Fran must be a difficult city to move through for the Secret Service. Logistically it'd be awful to plan. I'm of the thinking, stuff going from airports outside cities to travel like this into inherently 'unsafe' cities for meetings, lol.

The thing is, when President moves freely around like this, everyone can plan to kill him, especially when it's an official trip (because people know where he's going and the American flag is on the President's car). However, when he walks in a burger, two elements are reducing risks : people have probably been checked before by the Secret Service and the entrance was blocked until the President arrives. So, when he gets there, he doesn't need to have hundreds of bodyguards around him. You don't see from the video's perspective, however, that the whole street is blocked outside. Plus, these visits are usually unexpected so it's hard for any crazy guy to plan anything.
