It's nice to see them celebrate their 10 seasons. I was old enough to watch this but don't remember.
    RIP Phyllis George

17:38 Brent refers to the bar room fight between he and Jimmy the Greek as As the World Turns. Ironically at the time, the As the World Turns studio is just down the hall at the CBS Broadcast Center in NY.

And thus we witnessed the beginning of the St Louis Cardinals dynasty and Gary Hogeboom's emergence as the quarterback of the 80s.

Love the uninterrupted tracking shot at the 9:14 mark when Brent gets up from the main desk and goes over to where The Greek is and starts asking him about how he thinks the Cowboys will do in 1984 with Hogeboom being their starter that year (that was part of The Greek's picks segment as well, apparently).
Also, around the 11:21 mark, when Brent throws to Irv Cross for a feature story, he simply turns his head in Irv's direction, and the camera then changes to a close-up of Irv, and shows Brent and The Greek in the background to the right.

Jimmy the Greek was almost right about the Bears, they made the NFC championship and lost to SF in 1984

“Gary Hogeboom has the strongest arm in the NFL?!?!” Phyllis...Phyllis...Phyllis..John Elway and Dan Marino would like to have a word.

Charlie...Charlie...Charlie...She actually said he "MAY have the strongest arm in the NFL now that Terry Bradshaw's gone." Big difference from Hogeboom "HAS the strongest arm".

New Orleans business "legend" Joe Canizzaro bought the Boston Breakers and moved them to New Orleans in 1984, and then to Portland in 1985...he wasn't even paying the players well before that season ended .. bogus contracts and a bogus league that was totally banking their future on winning a huge anti- trust suit against the NFL..
NBC had already cancelled the TV contract, broadcasting one game of the week and an alternate game into that blacked-out city.
The USFL won the lawsuit, but the jury awarded $1 in damages..the NFL lawyers argued on the courthouse steps after the verdict over who would get the honor of paying the $1 to the Un-Successeful Farce Losers..
Trump no longer an (alleged pro) football franchise owner , no sweat for him, just another bankrupt pay- no-taxes-write-off he lives on..

Funny how great 1983-85 was considering the USFL was stealing every Heisman winner and signing big NFL & college players.

Sorry! The Niners were the best team this year. Much like Dan Fouts and Bert Jones, Danny White never saw a Superbowl.

Danny White played in 2 super bowls. Has a ring like it or not.
Bert Jones is a tragic case IMO. He probably would have been at a super bowl at some point if he were healthy. They were coming off a 77 season where they nearly beat the Raiders in a classic but in back to back years QB basically missed all year and they end up with 5-11 seasons.

Classic Sports I just love how some people throw statements up there without checking their history, especially with the technology we have today.

He was a year late on the Patriots prediction and bears prediction was accurate because they knock the redskins off but it was all about the 49ers

Well, Trump owned the New Jersey Generals, who signed Herschel Walker, and as usual, Trump ran that into the ground too..

    • @80sFootballCards
      @80sFootballCards 3 года назад

Walker was already with the Generals when Trump bought the team. He did run the USFL into the ground though.
