Savage Flies is a project with the mission of encouraging and teaching fly tying to as many people as possible. The channel is named after one of my western Maryland homewaters, the Savage River. Thanks for stopping by. - Спорт
Good Morning Sir Matt, this Everything Fly is Awesome, I like the concept. I'm a little late on this video, we had our church Grand Opening yesterday after the Texas Flooding we had awhile back. Everything is brand new and we had a great turnout. Something Kool to note my Pastor's Pastor who is our Special Guest is a fly fisherman. His first church was in Farmington NM. And he use to fish The San Juan River. I have prepared him a fly box with alot of the flies you taught me how to tie and some. That would have never happened if not for you so thank you Sir. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and cheers 😊
Matt I like the idea on those legs!!! One change I’d make is start that thread behind the eye to give a thread base for that hair so it doesn’t spin or a little thin dubbing base.. Absolutely going to try that out..
Great tip Scott! I need to remember that for anything with deer or elk up front as it will have a tendency to spin if you're not careful. Appreciate the note my friend. Have a great weekend!
Another great pattern. I once fished a black deer hair Crowe Beetle. The hair became cut and flared at each end of the fly but the cutties didn't care. Ragged works!! Thanks Matt.
Oh yeah JB! I've had woolly worms with the palmered hackle coming off, dragging through the water a complete mess and still catching fish. Not always, but sometimes a big messy fly drives them crazy. :-)
Good morning Matt. ☕️time. Different way of doing the legs. I like the look of that one. Back home and now cleaning and putting stuff away. Going fishing tomorrow. Have a great weekend.
Just saw that bull moose! And wow, what a great day in the field. Now good luck on the water. :-)
I like it Matt! The buggier the better, I know this fly will catch fish. Enjoyed watching. 👍
Appreciate it Jim! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Thanks for sharing another Emerger. Love it as always, Thanks Matt.
Appreciate it Lee! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Definitely a interesting fly.
I think Scott would be a hoot to fish with
Thanks for the video, Matt, and I hope you have a great weekend
I think you're right Dave! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
An excellent pattern-innovative and practical : Perfect for my small creeks here in Australia. -)
Well thank you Terry! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Thanks for sharing Matt another nice one. Have a blessed day my friend.
Appreciate it! Have a great weekend! :-)
Great looking Buggy fly! Thank you and have a Great weekend!
Appreciate it Marshall! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Great Job Matt. I will tie this today as I want to add the leg and ribbing approach to my toolbox.
Go for it Howard! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Crazy fly that I really like. Everything about it says buggy and ready to eat for a trout. Thanks.
Appreciate it Mel! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
That is a nice looking bug Matt. Nice tie.
Appreciate it Jeff! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Nice one Matt. Sanchez is a thoughtful tier, probably from tying some "One Fly" patterns that won that competition. I like using the deer hair for legs, like a Crowe beetle or some bee or wasp patterns I've seen. I think beat up patterns, at times, work better than pristine clones. Buggier the better. Thanks Matt, hey cool burly sweater that looks like a jacket with a shawl collar, or is it a jacket that looks like a sweater. 🤔hmm, nice!
Good looking fly Matt. Great idea to use the hair butt ends for legs. Should be a good floater!
I think so Daryl! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Is that what they mean by bug ugly, but it's a good ugly. Personally I've never seen a cute bug living on the bottom of a stream. Keep the good stuff coming Matt.
Hahaha, I hear you Dave! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
So true. Haven’t heard “bug ugly “before but it’s a great description.
Like the rib and legs. Very nice!! I know I overlook emergers too often.
Appreciate it Bob! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Great job Matt. Thanks.
Appreciate it Ken! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Hi Matt. I like that pattern. It’s gonna be in my box too. I’m enjoying my Bahamas trip right now and we had a nice day one on the flats and hoping the same for the week. If you haven’t tried it yet I highly recommend it. Take care and as always thanks for the video.
Now that is a buggy fly great a merger. Really liked how you did the legs.Have a great day☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
Coffee time here too Jim, and then off to the amusement park! Have a great weekend. :-)
This looks like a pattern that Charles Meck mentioned in his book Matching Hatches Made Easy. He wrote about a pattern that he would take to the stream and, depending on the hatch, color with a marker.
Very cool Matt.i like this one.thanks my friend
Well thank you Mike! Have a great weekend my friend. :-)
What an interesting & creative way to create legs. I’m going to give this pattern a try.
If you want to make the legs darker as a contrast, just use a magic marker. Crimp the legs with a fingernail or tweezers to bend them for a shaggier look.
Great tip with the marker! There's one other fly that comes to mind using legs done like this. If I recall, Andy Puyan's Black Beaver sort of does this. From Valla's "Tying the Founding Flies." It's a nymph and he uses some dark hair (moose maybe?) for a wing case, and he folds the tips back and crinkles them up for the legs. I'm going to have to look that one up again. Now I'm off to an amusement park for some Halloween festivities. Have a great weekend!
Hmm. Wonder if those legs would work forElk Hair Caddis.
Or a Stimulator.?
Really cool fly! That leg technique is very different, but makes a totally believable effect. Thanks for another unique fly Matt!
You bet Troy! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Buggy looking fly for sure matt looks great with those legs yks 😊
Appreciate it Burt! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Totally agree, caddis like for sure. Bet it’ll catch fish. Thx Matt!
Appreciate it Clyde! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Thanks for this pattern Matt,
Why don't you tie european fly?
French Tricolore by Henri Bresson or A4 by Aimée devaux are cool flies.
I like it and I don’t have to worry about it being an Instagram fly. It’s sure to be a fish catcher.
Hahaha I agree! Thanks for the note and have a great weekend my friend. :-)
Neat
Digging the sweater / jacket! What is it?
Nothing fancy Hank, just found it on Amazon and thought it looked cool. :-) amzn.to/3FrQGza
Looks buggy!
