  • This episode felt like a finale with some clear ending for Roger and Bree's battle with their nemesis! I can't wait to see what happens next!

It’s crazy how she called the black mans character on the show the assistant. He’s a freaking house slave. Major difference.

Julie Zzz Actually, Ulysses plays the role of slave he’s been a free man for years. He stays to help Jocasta run the plantation. The books are so much more informative, but I’m enjoying the adaptation. And yes Bonnet dies in book 6.

Here are my thoughts and a lot of book differences.
A lot of this ep didn't happen in this book ( it was taken from bk 6) or they changed who was involved, when and who did what.
They have not had any word from Ian for a long while. The last communication was a letter that he was married and expecting a child.
Claire and Roger have a long discussion about blood types and that she may be able to test Jemmy to see if he isn't Rogers son. Claire is also trying to find a way to make a stain for blood so she can examine it in her microscope. Trying to find a way to be able to tell if/when Lizzie's malaria will come back.
I really missed this part. It thought it was a really nice part of the book. Roger and Brianna talk about that if something happens to one or both of them would Jemmy remember them. He talks about his mother and what he remembers of her. He also said that he was there when she died in a blitz bombing and he finally remembers that she saved his life.
Fergus goes to register the land surveys In New Bern. Everyone else (Claire, Jamie, Roger, Brianna, Marsali and all the children) goes to Wilmington to get supplies and to get information on Bonnet's whereabouts. Also to be there for the meeting at Wylie's landing that was set up with Bonnett to "smuggle whiskey" as an excuse to kill Bonnet.
Roger and Jamie go to thier meeting with Bonnet. Bonnet doesn't show up. Magistrate Lilywhite and Sheriff Anstruther (presumably sent by Bonnet) try to kill them.
Bonnet tries to abduct Brianna and Jemmy while the ladies and Children are looking for Wax Myrtle berries in the woods to make candles. Marsali tries to shoot him and misfires. Brianna shoots his hands and possibly his midsection or lower.
I was leary of them doing it by the law. I thought that he would somehow wiggle out of it. I was yelling at my screen for the people to not leave, to make sure he is dead. He is very sneaky. This was before she shot him.
A lot of this ep didn't happen in this book or they changed who was involved and who did what. Most of the Bonnet stuff came from book 6. Bonnet doesn't die till near the end of bk 6. Brianna and Roger are there. Roger rows Brianna out to Bonnet and she shoots him. I think it was a little bit mercy but mostly to make sure he was dead.
Lieutenant Wolff was sent to kill Duncan at River Run. Duncan gets a broken leg and Wolff is injured and Ulysess ends up killing the Lieutenant by cutting his throat. Jamie and clare rush off to River Run to check on the inhabitants. Jamie and Claire decide to put the body in Hector Cameron's mausoleum and find the bones of Dr. Rawlings and the French gold.

Claire finally tells Jamie about Loaghaire role in Claire being involved in the Cranesmuir witch trials with Geillis. Jamie didn't know previously.
Claire discovers that Dr. Rawlings treated Hector and Jocasta while reading his medical journal.
While Jamie is laid up Roger welcomes a new tenant and his family. Tom Christie was in prison with Jamie and they didn't always get along. Roger learns the Jamie is a freemason.
Jamie was inducted into the Freemasons while in Ardsmuir prison and Jamie helped create a Freemasons lodge while in Ardsmuir prison.
Jamie's recovery from the snakebite was longer.

I think the show made up that Jem is in fact Bonnet's son, he was ginger in the beginning of the show and then all suddenly he turned to bright blonde which they both did not have as children. I'm not saying that i am mad about that but...I would understand. Many children are born out of rap* to this day and I would understand that the show wants to tell you that. In their strange way. I don't know, it's hard to explain. But it's sad I did not get to see all these things in the show... :/

I don’t think it was mercy in the end. I think she wanted him as afraid and helpless as he made her.
People wonder why Brianna told him the baby was his in prison. I think it was her belief he was going to be dead so he wouldn’t have claim or influence. Only she underestimated his knack for surviving. Brianna wouldn’t do that again, so I think that’s why she took the final shot.

I agree. Bri has a very good heart, but also a strong since of justice. That's why she wanted hind tried. However, by her knowing his Drama induced fear of Drowning... She Waited until the very end With EVERYONE gone...to put him out of his most fear. Outlander did an AWESOME job with this scene. Fantastic!
      Justice. Punishment. Mercy, Closure AND...Self-Redemption.
It had to be Brianna that ended it ALL... Period.

    • @freyjana6778

It was most definitely mercy. In the book he forces her to sleep beside him, and she holds him while he cries in his sleep from his nightmare. She promises him to calm him down that she will never let him drown. So because she is a kind person, she fulfills her promise. I wish they had followed the book that way a little more. In the book she rows out to him and says Go with God, Stephen, in Gaelic, before she kills him. 😢

Khalid Ibrahim your remark about the ruby ring is actually funny! Brianna's wedding ring in the books is a ruby ring that belonged to her father Jamie. He had won it in a card game some years prior in France while he & Claire were in exile there. It is that ring that Brianna gives the prostitute Eppy as payment to try to find her parents & Roger to tell them of her location with Bonnet. Eppy's boyfriend (a Ridge man) recognizes the ring as belonging to Brianna Fraser McKenzie, and together they seek out Jamie in Wilmington. There never was a wedding ring fabricated by Murtaugh at Jamie's request for Brianna. There's so much to the story that the show cannot give us due to time, but the show writers have done an exceptional job of getting the gist of those books onto the screen.

Last night was, what's that word? AWESOME!!!! Am l the only one that noticed how hard Jocasta's man-servant (Ulysses) took her possible death? He was so overcome with emotion, that he called Jocasta by her first name. Which was a huge no- no for that era. Plus, he came to her rescue too quick. He probably was waiting/hovering/ just outside the door within ear shot. Noticed the look that Ulysses gave the tiny man, when he shoved his cane and hat into Ulysses chest upon arriving there? Also Ulysses kissed, Jocasta's hand, a blatant show of affection. I think ole- boy secretely loves her. But....because of the time they are in, he has to keep this love on the low-low. Oh....don't you just love this show? 😍 I dunno, I think I might be onto something. 😁

@@JeanBakula technically, he is still a free man, Jocasta gave him his freedom once they started their relationship, she didn't want him to be with her just because he had to...he could have left then, but stayed because he loved her...it will be interesting if they keep to that story line because that means he had to watch while Jocasta and Murtagh had their love affair which would have really sucked... At least with Duncan, Ulysses knew she didn't really love him, and well Duncan was not much of a threat ya kin!
