  • The original...even better! This is the description from the original February 2012 presentation, modified for 2022:
    Here it is...my 100th upload! A Must-See! (more of a "hope you'll see") Images and music-just 4 u!
Here's how yer' frog started out! It's all here-from my humble beginnings up to the present! Practically everything I've ever done is here in a now-56 min 'synopsis!' This vid shows what I'm all about, as well as some glimpses of what later came along (such as clips from my C&O Canal documentary/miniseries). Give me an (almost) hour of your time-it'll be well worth it-guaranteed (well...sorta guaranteed, anyway).
It's all here: trains, herpitiles, history, scenery, other odds and ends-including a fish and a ghost story! Even feverish attempts to rattle off an occasional one-liner. Got a rodeo (yes-I said RODEO) too! Anybody up for Baltimore Ravens cheerleaders? Warning: If you're from Cleveland, you might not wanna watch!
Everything mentioned in my [original] channel description is here!
We begin with an historical slide show of yer' bullfrog's evolvement set to the instrumental "Juggernaut" by Schlechter, Karas and Rupp (I'm Karas-and Rupp is my lady's older brother!). And, believe it or not, most of our tracks went down on tape with only 4-8 dry/practice runs! And all but the first were recorded in multichannel. Had stereo/quad even in my teens!!
You'll then travel with me to some (possibly) interesting places! Ever visited Lost City WV? Or Frog Level?? Well, you're about to! Ever heard of Franklin (NOT Ben!)? You'll even see glimpses of my life in Florida (not far from the FECRR-so, you see, I've been around trains all my life)! Even some places I'll bet you never knew existed!! If you're into the "middle of nowhere" this is for you!
You'll also sample this bullfrog's musical "talents." Got sound bytes from various bands in which I've played-with HQ sound remastered from the original sources (in some cases, anyway)! My music "career" only lasted from 1970 to the mid 80s but I still occasionally play guitar and synthesizer! Anybody wanna JAM? Wish I still could!
I still don't label my vids "must see" but I'm really hoping you won't mind watching this one! It took me a couple months to go through the archives and find these clips, attesting to the vastness of my library!! So, for the first time I say "Please Watch!"
    Schlechter & Karas songs:
Juggernaut recorded October 1972 in mono (with George Rupp on drums)
Atom Age Vampire recorded spring 1974 in stereo
Town of All Souls recorded summer 1978-in quadraphonic
Larry Schlechter-guitars (went on to Led & Silver)
Gus Karas-bass (went on to recording solo & chasing Fs & EMDs)
    Rosemary & Sweet Whiskey song:
The Train Song recorded June 1974 at Community College of Baltimore (stereo). Written by Carl Stein. Transferred from 8-track (!) recorded off the air.
    Charlene Dunn-banjo, guitar & vocals
    Carl Stein-acoustic guitars & vocals
    Jeff Swiss-acoustic guitar & vocals
    Steve Jackson-electric guitars, occasional vocal
    Gus Karas-bass & rare vocals
Also featuring bytes from "Crumbling Away" by the group 114 (that's their name-the number! The only band I didn't play in but knew a member of).
All photographic images digitized from original archival negatives, slides and Polaroid photos.
Sound Byte Notes: All songs from 2 and 4 channel tapes (still in pristine condition despite their age) except "Juggernaut" which is an original mono recording. Lots of stuff still in the vault!
2022 Remaster Notes: Improved audio and video where necessary

Pete said to write a note on old video & you would get. Sorry to hear of your painful health condition that prohibits making new adventures. Sure miss your movies. So well made. Your humor had me rolling in laughter. Your road adventures took us there just like we were in the car with you. The trailer camper stunt had to be the best ever. Had all wondering what you was up to next. (A brilliant idea!). Watching Dolly in the background doing her thing. You are a celebrity film maker equal to the famous Allen Funt. Hope you get this note. Best wishes to you & your wife from a long time fan.

Thank You very much for your concern! Feels good to know that my viewers are waiting for me-a feeling I need right about now. I honestly appreciate your compliments as well, but I have to tell you-with all due respect-that trailer/camper "stunt" was no stunt whatsoever; totally unplanned (or even thought of) by me. I've posted video preview trailers before with no problem; everyone's always understood that "trailer" means video/movie preview as most of us even get preview trailers on our YT home page; myself included, as well as on TV (starting with "...This preview trailer has been rated...etc etc"). I thought everyone knew! Then suddenly, in January 2020 when I posted another preview trailer, I started getting viewers "congratulating" me for buying a trailer despite NO mention of one either in the video or description. Tried correcting everybody but to no avail; still kept getting "congratulations" on that alleged (and obviously imagined) trailer! Coincidentally started around the time covid hit but not sure if there's a connection. Might be, as the confusion seems to have diminished since covid died down. Haven't had a problem since. I could NEVER afford a trailer! I'm too broke!!
Still, I thank you for your kind words! A great morale boost! Dolly and I are both very appreciative! We'll hopefully be out again with more scenery, history, and...humor. Thanx for being a fan!
      Peace... ✌👌😊👍
BTW I did once try a Candid Camera sort-of thing. Been a while so don't remember all the particulars.

@@bullfrog1954 So thrilled to hear from you & Dolly. I have been down last few days as it's been so long hearing of your condition. Today my spirits are high again knowing you & Dolly are doing better & care so much for your viewing family. Many of us were so excited you got a new camper & could travel in style you deserve that we got caught up in your good fortune. We don't know those movie terms so we get confused at times. Know you struggle like most of us do. We only want the best for you. Miss seeing you & your sweet lady Dolly but hope to see you once again soon.

Even I myself can't figure out how all that "trailer" misunderstanding started when these days one hears that term used as a movie preview way more often than as a RV reference!! Even if I could afford one I could never handle working with one in my present condition-would be too much of a hardship (physically monetarily)! No, I'll have to settle for some motel or something like that-if I can back into long-distance travel again. Still I appreciate my viewers, and really have to forgive all those who got the wrong impression; wishing me good luck with this alleged camper resulting in my having to constantly correct everybody. That's all in the past (hopefully); good enough just knowing I have viewers who care. Thanx again.

Man, you really don't want to know! A bad fall in November 2022 worsened my condition! With the extra discomfort really haven't felt up to much, including checking any social media such as this. A year ago my brother went to EC; spoke with Barry who asked why Dolly and I haven't been around in a while (he briefly filled Barry in). Also, oddly enough, many of my viewers have been asking (and sometimes bugging) my brother; asking what happened to me! While it's great my viewers miss me this extra discomfort makes it difficult to concentrate for any length of time on whatever! Making an effort to get back to normal, starting with answering my backlog of comments! I didn't/wouldn't forget my viewers! Really! Just that I'm not doing so well now, but you never know...one day I just might feel OK enough to pop into St Denis without warning! Or even EC...
      Thank You for asking! ✌👍👌✌

Thank You for your concern! Much appreciated! A series of circumstances came into play for me; the worst being an injury from a fall in November 2022 that worsened my condition. Enough back pain as it was, without this adding to it! Very uncomfortable! Trying to get back into everything but it can be difficult. If I'm not able to get out I have literally tons of stuff in the archives to keep me going for a while as well as improving previous uploads. Still, can be uncomfortable sitting at the PC after a time. My viewers expressing interest really is inspiring-honest! I only wish I could deliver! Stay tuned, though. You never know... 👌👍✌

You might call what I do a labor of love. After all, been doing it most of my adult life! As far as looking like a superstar...well, if I ever did, those days are in the past! And that photo? I was just 27 there! All I was doing was showing how I got to where I am, and many viewers seem to relate to it. I'm a bit older now, and getting around isn't as easy as it once was but I'll keep trying to bring my viewers more of what they like!

Man, this was a life-changer!! Had other problems in 2022, all capped off by this! Other problems gone but apparently was a very serious injury, and at my age probably not a lot of hope. Over a year since the last Odyssey for those reasons! I still have material in the vault though, to hold me off till I'm able to get around again.

  • @danielfoster3642
    @danielfoster3642 Год назад +1

Yeah, the 70s and 80s were the best times to have fun. I wasn't even born at the time, so I wasn't able to enjoy those days (I'm a 2000s kid).
Before the current alignment of I-95 through Baltimore opened, how were people able to get through or around Baltimore going from Newark, Delaware to Washington DC in the early 80s? Was there a temporary designation on Baltimore streets? Did they have to use US 1?
I had no idea you were into model trains. I grew up on the Thomas the Tank Engine toys.
It's kind of funny that you were discussing the rivalry between the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens. Even though I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan at heart, I have a couple friends in the area I live in who are Ravens fans. The AFC North is probably the most competitive division in the NFL right now.
I love those benches, especially the Hardee's one. Where were those benches?
I remember hearing about the recent devasting flooding in Ellicott City. I don't know if you ever thought about this, but Ellicott City is sort of like Johnstown, Pennsylvania on one merit. They both have had devasting floods around. Ellicott City had gotten their recent flood. The last flood in Johnstown to occur on that level was in 1977. Who knows when the next devasting Johnstown Flood will be? It could be sooner. There are several dams in that area, especially the Wilmore Dam just north of Portage that are in danger of causing leaks resulting in water overflowing out the dam should another foot of rain fall in one day. The remnants of Hurricane Ida looked like that was going to be the case. A foot worth of rain in the area seemed to cause a huge scare in not just the area of Johnstown, but worldwide as well, as "Johnstown Flood" was trending on Twitter the day the remnants of Ida passed through the area.
So you found the photo of the Crown gas station that had the gas price at 57 cents. Wow! How times were different back then.
You put a lot of effort into this redo. Thanks Bullfrog!

    • @bullfrog1954
      @bullfrog1954  Год назад +1

For a 2000s kid-you seem to really be in tune with things! Really! I think that's great!
Before the interstates, including I-95 (which I remember rather well) travel was along the US routes. In the case of I-95, US 1 would've been the north/south route through MD. Even before 95 we got the Harbor Tunnel in 1957 to pass north/south traffic through; traffic east on US 40 would enter the Tunnel Thruway, head south through the tunnel and then be deposited on US 1 south (reverse for northbound). East-west US 40 became 4 lanes in the 1940s and was actually easier to use north out of Baltimore than US 1, especially with the NJ Turnpike in. Going south my parents used US 1-till they discovered US 301 which was a bit shorter. Both 1 and 301 met in GA just before the FL line, then it would be back onto 1 for the remainder of the trip south.
Yeah-into trains all my life-both full-scale and model! Have many now-rare HO pieces; many of which I "customized" myself. Attended many a model train show and grabbed as many "classic" pieces as I could afford, especially Ma & Pa (naturally)! Can't run 'em right now but still got 'em!
Been trying to figure out where those benches were by using Google street but haven't been able to! Area probably changed since then! I believe it to be on US 40 just east of St. Clairsville OH. Interesting intercity rivalry back then too!
Hopefully there won't be any more Ellicott City floods, or even Johnstown. But-then again-wasn't Johnstown really human error? Thought I heard leaks were spotted in the dam but everyone thought it would still hold. It did-till all the water came.
As great as it would be to have 57-cent gas again...when I began driving in 1971 it was just 17 cents!! Probably won't see that again! Anyway-glad you enjoyed, and Thank You!!
BTW If you'd like to check out those classic roads from back in the day there's a great website with classic maps and aerial photos called NETR Historic Aerials. I use it to research routes for my odysseys! You can look up both current and original routes, and see how they compare! Have fun! 👌👍😊

@@bullfrog1954 Yeah. I was born in the late 90s, so I definitely know a lot about the 2000s and into the 2010s. I grew up with a lot of TV shows on PBS, Nickelodeon, and Disney Channel during that time. Also remember a lot of events happening during that time, including 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.
As far as those old benches are concerned, I went on Google Maps and checked old Street View imagery, and found two benches left in 2012. They were located at the intersection of the National Road and Banfield Road east of St. Clairsville, Ohio. One of them advertised the Hillcrest Motel (which still operates today), the other had the America's Best Value Inn (formerly a Knights Inn, as seen in the end of that clip). The benches were in pretty bad shape, both of them looked like the top was about to come off, the sitting areas were ripped off, and weeds had grown under them. No wonder they're not there anymore.
As far as the supposed recent leak in the Wilmore Dam is concerned, there wasn't any leak in the dam during Ida. The dam did as it was supposed to do. It was just incorrect information. The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Wilmore area due to heavy rains in the area. However, it was what was worded in the warning that got a lot of attention. The bulletin used the words "dam break," "failure," and "uncontrolled release." The owner of the reservoir dam disagreed with that statement, and said that the reservoir would be able to hold up that amount of rain. My point of another Johnstown Flood happening sooner points to the fact that there have been studies by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection that stated that the levees in the Wilmore Dam, the Hinckston Run Dam a couple miles north of Johnstown, and the North Fork Run Dam just south of Johnstown are in danger of posing a huge risk to the public in the city of Johnstown should one of them fail. I'm hoping that's not the case, but I do remember our local TV meteorologist saying that it certainly seems possible it could happen again. Maybe not as deadly as the other ones, since we have better technology today than they had back in 1889.
I checked out that website you brought up. It's really neat!

I too saw that Knights Inn on Google-just the area looked so different...
There were flood warnings around here recently, but fortunately we weren't affected. I do have one flood video posted of Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. Still shame no one saw the signs of a failing dam back in the day, and people had to suffer for it. But-it's happened comparatively recently too.
Glad you're enjoying the NETR website! One can really get carried away looking up stuff! Great classic maps and photos! I researched a lot of classic routes with it!

@@bullfrog1954 I did get carried away looking at that website. I decided to check out my local area, and was able to view an aerial view of my county from 1966! There were some interesting things I noticed. One, the site of my public school only had the high school and football stadium. There was no elementary or middle school, no other athletic facilities, no business park next to the schools and only two roads, the old 219 and the road that passes by the high school. Second, a lot of the shopping centers, hotels and fast food restaurants we have today were basically nothing but farmland and fields back then. Third were some of the railroad tracks that no longer exist. It's a really neat tool to use if you love area history.

That's the kind of stuff I look up! All those old roads! We have three reservoirs in our area that once had towns and roads before flooding, and it's great to see how those routes once ran! Roads relocated now but original roads still beneath the waters! We had low water in 2002 and a long-flooded construction road from 1933 showed! Also some highway numbers changed for some reason-US 222 formerly US 122 but no clue as to why the change. And, of course-all those "old" railroads! Incredible! Yes-that's great tool for history buffs!
