  • Orisa. A chunk of HP with a beast of a gun, and a host of cooldowns to boot. Does she spam? Does she brawl? Does she do... both? Coach Spilo breaks down a personal favorite in the tank hero cast, coaching exactly how to execute the playstyle of this underrated hero, including Cooldown cycles, positioning, target priority, Ultimate use, and much more!

    Notes to self:
This is one of the better guides, the ability usage rules and mentality is really well illustrated
If I could summarise: Orisa is about survivability - the more you maximise your survivability the more aggressive you can be, which means you create exponentially more space and increase your own value in that aggretion (I think).
There's also always small things, like incrementally improving cover usage and being little by little more aware of your health and the state of your cooldowns/ult/survivabiltiy options. These all have huge payoffs for even small improvements - it's just hard to maintain good habits here as you can't always play in high level scrim games where you'll be punished.
^The same goes with damage/spear/pressure on the squishes 80 damage on a genji and he should be cowering/not fully commiting to your backline, 200-300 damage on your doom at best he punches out for 3 seconds at worst even 400damage he just ults/blocks and carries on wrecking your team. Tiny bit better target priority, tiny bit extra mechanics leads to tiny bit extra confidence which leads to better mechanics and target priority, massive positive cycle.
Also he goes onto talk about using range as orisa DOES have versatility - she doesn't ONLY get value up close.
Also target priority just on really small changes in context of all the previous things, I could list for days the things this guy could improve on and he's GM, a great player by all means, that's why I love this game, soooo much depth yet anyone can pick it up and understand the jist, you can read the wiki page to understand every ability precisely but every character gives you the jist, the only real roadblock to improvement is how good you are at improving.
15:24 Really good question I like to ask myself be it javelin, helix or mag grenade - would this win this the fight? You can hit a tank 20 times with these and maybe only 1 of those 30 times it turns around the fight... because of a mag/helix nade on a tank/sheild... you hit a squishy half or even a quarter as often say of the times you would've hit the tank you hit them 10 times, which... you should not be missing THAT much more often but image you do, even then of those ten times 1 squishy pick pushs you in an advantage in the fight and because of your 5v4 advantage or 4v4 stabalise you win that fight just half the time - that goes from 10 to 5 times the value let's say, that's MASSIVELY better, just from a tiny bit of decision making you're winning wayyy more fights, with just 1 ability having a tiny bit better decision making with shitty mechanics still - this is why a GM even 7 years after release will carry a diamond match basically everytime, because statistically they win so many more fights even though they really are soooo subtely different, those small differences make a world of difference and then the top 100 streamer/pub stomper to the GM5 is a roll then even the OWL pro vs the streamer is a COMPLETE rollover matchup and then the coordinated team is a roll, then the team that doesn't tilt and keeps good mental is a stomping match, there is SOOOO much room for everyone to improve in this game it is beautiful.
^Also note the inverse is always going to be true, dodging orisa javelin or helix or obviously magnetic grenade is directly inversely proportional to your enemy teams value so understanding a hero properly can give you twice the payoff you expect or even more if they don't expect you to be thinking about what they're doing, which you could actually do for all 10 players of the team with anticipating whos anticipating and double, triple bluffing etc. who knows, the sky really is the limit, this game has practically no skill cap but we can all invent our super hero fantasy players who make all these perfect decision, that's easy, actually doing any of this stuff is, even inconsistently every so often when it just happened to cross your mind is INCREDIBLY hard, let alone with any kind of consistency.
I think it's really important to emphasise WHY each little thing will make you so much better as well because not only does it actually give you an order to do things in e.g. what will keep helping you improve and what is really a small relative optimisation which bleeds your ability to focus on other things. PLUS it actually helps you IMPLIMENT this stuff when you reason out why you're doing it - you're way better able to make those connections to ACTUALLY DO IT in game which is always the limiting factor, spolio no doubt a top 500 streamer stomping on people, not the best ever but could absoloutely be at the top but he can still be beaten by people HE TAUGHT and know less than him because at the end of the day it's not about KNOWING what to do but DOING what you know.
17:06 See we can do this stuff - take a third or less or the damage by isolating yourself as a target + take space etc., one can think of these huge improvements when asked but not nessesarily DO them.
18:58 God damn that's well put, without even realising this, the most I have ever improved off of one realisation was when I started respecting snipers - as if I was as low as I'd be if they'd already shot me.
20:11 VERY small subtle difference in positioning leads to a massive difference, sure you can win fights like this but it's worse as a rule and your fight win% will be lower, every single subtle gain you can each makes a huge difference on their own, you want to truly refine yourself so you cannot conceal how distinct your play is from what it used to be.

So good info but not a guide. This is what you would call coaching but I am sure you knew that and were trying to double it.

Its sad honestly , how toxic and negative the comp community is for OW2. They need more people willing to teach and be patient

If you play Orisa on Circuit Royal vs a Widow are you pretty much throwing even if you don’t have a character like Sigma in your hero pool?

....did he say "Unless they have a Rein, no one can go toe to toe with Orisa"? Orisa counters literally everything Rein does! I have never lost a 1v1 against Rein as Orisa. His charge can be hard countered by fortify or javelin and soft countered by spin, his firestrike can be eaten by spin, his ult can be ignored with fortify, Orisa vs Rein is 100% the easiest fight ever for Orisa. And even if you need to disengage, javelin him to create space and 90% of his dps is unavailable to him. And I'm saying this as a Rein main. I only started playing Orisa in the past couple of weeks.
