  • Special thanks to The Bond Group @TheRealBondGroup for this feature of the Series I Maserati Sebring 3500 GTi. Like many of the GTi's this has been converted from Lucas Fuel Injection to Triple Webber Carburetors. The next owner of this beautiful example will enjoy each click into gear with the precise ZF 5 speed manual while the twin cam inline 6 roars smoothly to redline. Keep your eye out for this car on Bring A Trailer.

      Many people in UK can make them good without too much trouble. It was standard on 2.5 saloon and TR6. Trouble is, it can fuel a fire under the wrong conditions. They changed to twin carbs 'cause they were less trouble though, so point taken. We really let down the Amerians with the Stag, which could have been great with the Rover 215 V8 , ex Buick. (A ramble).

    When cars were proper jewels. My grandfather (who was a Chaffeur for a wealthy family back in the day) often told me about how wonderful this exact same car was in its day. He loved it. More than any other car. He got to 240Kmh (150mph) on an a very empty Italian autostrada in Italy whilst driving it on a summer's afternoon in 1966...

  • @enriquebesteiro4412
    @enriquebesteiro4412 3 года назад +1

    Love to see such a great classic on the road. Thanks very much for showing this true jewel.
    A true Gran Turismo focused on a discreet clientel that didn't want to show off. True connoisseurs that knew what they were purchasing. So, making the usual comparison with Ferrari... Hmm..
    The Italian marques at the time shouldn't be reduced to the 'black horse' and the rest. Lancia, Alfa, Isotta Fraschini were truly big big names at the time.
    A Sebring and a 250.... 2 different animals in my opinion. Shouldn't be considered as a second option if you can't afford the other one.
    Thanks for the video!

    • @TedwardDrives
      @TedwardDrives  3 года назад

      The interior and dashboard are nearly identical. It would be criminal not to compare it to the 250GT! Plus this is an easier car with better road manners. Not to mention a proper 5 speed instead of the electronic overdrive

    Since Stellantis owns both Maserati and Chrysler, Chrysler should share the old Mercedes platform (300) that they've done absolutely nothing with in almost 10 years so they can build the ultimate 60's inspired grand tourer based on the 300 letter cars and the Maserati GT's of the early 60s. The Maseratis and Chryslers in that era were pretty much the nicest cars in the world at that point. I would have taken either over a contemporary RR or Cadillac.

    3:50 I don't think an automatic would have been "innovative" in 1962. Automatic transmissions were around several decades by then.

      Unveiled at the 1976 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari 400 was the first Ferrari to offer an automatic transmission. Maybe he was referring to "innovative" as far as italian cars go.

      Automatics were very rarely used on European cars up until modern times. Most major car makers didn't even make their own but bought them from Ford, GM, or Chrysler, or third party makers like Borg-Warner, ZF, or Getrag. Mercedes famously made their own automatic transmission, something Rolls Royce couldn't afford, so they as well as Ferrari had to buy them from GM.
