    I find I can hear pitches accurately but my voice doesn't always produce what I want it to. Usually due to nerves, unfamiliarity when sightsinging a piece or, most often, insufficient breath support.

      Same! I'm usually unaware of it as I sing. Only when I started recording myself did I realize I'm often flat.

      @@sgringo Same. I record myself often now for this reason. Better breathing, posture and singing more legato helped me out. Insecurity also leads me to sing some tones flat at times, even though the rest is in the right key.

    Such a good point on harmonies; another way is to practice intonation between 2 pitches from 25 cents down to 3 cents!!! There are apps for this!!!🙏🙏🙏

    Ah I hear you on the guitars! It really gets under my skin when I hear even professional musicians not taking the time to PERFECTLY tune that guitar and then the whole performance is just substandard, even though everything else was perfect :(

    I love all your suggestions, Freya.One of my biggest problems is maintaining the correct rhythm during a song while playing an instrument. Metronomes are suggested but perhaps you have more ways I can be helped. For example I have started off a song at 80 bpm and sometimes end at 100 bpm! Not too cool!

    • @joshuamclean4588
      @joshuamclean4588 3 года назад

      Wow. Were sometimes a little shaky as in not right on the beat, but 80-100 unintentionally is a lot. Definitely Practice with a metronome. Not only that but try your best to get right on top of the click. Match it so well that it is right on top so you dont hear it. Not from playing so loud that u drown itnout but because ur actually playing on it. Thats the goal. Sometimes being laid back is good- but the key is to have control over the sound, and that it be intentional. I can now intentionally play just before or after the beat because I practice practice practice playing right with the metronome then I can play around it when I get good.
      Ps play at different tempos. Don’t practice the same beat at one tempo otherwise playing at a different tempo may mess u up and u may want to default to that tempo and unintentionally drag or rush. Often times playing slower can be harder than playing faster! (Especially if ur used to playing that beat faster). Really slow can be difficult to keep steady just as really fast can be hard to keep ip with. So practice at all tempo ranges.
      I would also practice going up and down in the same tempo. For a lot of people, as a sound intensifies, they want to speed up. As you practice with a metronome, try to avoid that. Go quieter and safter while staying the same tempo and practice that at different tempos.
      Hope that helps. I’m at the point where I notice people even when they are syeady often are slightly ahead or behind. Everyone is different. Find where you are, and work on it. Going 80-100 is rushing quite a bit. If ur starting slightly ahead and then want to keep going faster as u build up that can happen. You can have better control and if you can intentionally control it you will be a master. If you can play right on the beat and keep it steady and play around the metronome but always stay with the click u will be grooving and people won’t have any problem getting in the rhythm with you.

    Hi, I have a question about how to not sing with a nasil sound. Singer is weak in forming the words properly and throws the words and sounds to the back of the throat. How would you encourage them to unlearn the habit and how to improve?

      Play a note, try singing it while recording. Play the recording and hear if it sounds the same as the note you played. If it doesn't sound right, try higher or lower. Rinse and repeat until it sounds right.

    When i clicked this video i get an ad were people are telling me how useless intervals are for ear training. First thing this lady says: its important to learn intervals. lot of conflicting information for people trying to adjust their vocal intonation and ear abilities.

    Teaching intonation to kids is really hard. Sometimes they naturally have good ears, but when singing a capela or accompanying an acoustic guitar they really get lost.

    Hey Freya, why does learning an instrument e.g piano help with intonation ?
    I am currently doing ear training and learning kodály. Also trying to learn piano!

    • @Krlosp4rdo
      @Krlosp4rdo 5 лет назад

      It does help. It means you are spending a lot of time hearing notes and harmonies, so it does improve your ears. But sometimes there's a disconnect between your ears and your voice so you need to close that gap by vocalizing and singing.

    hi i eartrain really intensley, i can hit even major 7ths and minor 2nds in my low range. i record myself frequently. sometimes ill find things right in one recording but then something else wrong each time. my onset is pretty good. BUT my intonation is so terrible when i sing in high pitches especially accompanying myself, how should i address this?
