    Oh I just cried a river! This is so touching and powerful!
    I am with her every step of the way because I had a learning disability when I was young so I know how it is like to struggle!
    Here is the ultimate positive slang from American English:

    It's weird to imagine how life would be like if I couldn't read because pretty much everything I do needs reading, even looking for youtube videos for example... It's awesome that she really learned it!! She's great

      That depends which school you are attending...otherwise you’re not only at the risk of not learn how to read, but also a minor brain damage...Check out Samuel Blumenfeld’s videos and books. As a rule here in Sweden about a half class are illiterate. They have difficulty to read and understand the text. You can’t teach read English or Swedish phonetic alphabet as it would be Chinese. We have phonetic alphabet, Chinese have ideograms.

    I learned how to read when I was in the 6th grade. At the start of 6th grade I was barely at a first grade level of reading. I was so determined and put all my focus into learning. I told my special education teachers that I didn’t care about the rest of my subjects; that if I didn’t learn to read at a higher level I wouldn’t stand a chance at going to college. They helped me and by 8th grade I was reading at a 5th grade level. By 10th grade I scored in the top 25 out of 100 students on the reading portion in state testing. My school principal called me into the office to verify my 6th grade reading level. He needed to ask because I just achieved something unheard of-breaking a record-in such a short amount of time. I began to read all the time. I ended up graduating with honors both in high school and at University. I love to write along with still being a book warm. I understand her struggle, but am fortunate I didn’t have to endure it as long as she did. I still remember being able to read a book to my younger sister by 3 years. Usually it was her reading to me and helping me sound out words.

    at first i'll admit, i did laugh and think "how can someone go that long without being able to read?" but after watching the video, i realise it's not about the past, but the fact she wanted to change her future not just for herself, but her grandchildren as well. it really did change my perspective on life

    Imagine going to the store looking for a certain food that you’ve never heard of , you won’t be able to read the labels or anything. Imagine going to the doctor and filing out the paperwork and not knowing what it says. Imagine ordering of the menu at a restaurant. This what her life was and wait if she can’t read then can she write ? Type?

    • @catsnmi270
      @catsnmi270 6 лет назад

      Chloe matteson, no, obviously, if she couldn't read she wouldn't be able to write, either!

  • @Rebekahlavy
    @Rebekahlavy 6 лет назад

    This may sound ignorant but I dont understand how someone can live for so long and not know how to read. I question if she ever went to school as a kid because we had exams and assignments that allow us to graduate from school in general. Another reason why I am surprised by it all is because when I was 4 I picked up reading really quickly before school started and I had really bad hearing until I was nearly 8. So it just amazes me that people dont get taught to read as it's part of everyday life.
