Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! I will try to have a couple more videos out before end of the year and then taking a week or two off. Thanks to Sophie for being such a sport! Love to you all this wintery season❤❤❤
Have a lovely Xmas time you too!
I hope you have a blessed Christmas and a very happy new year! Enjoy your time off, you've earned it!
Merry Christmas! Love your content! Thank you ❤
I’ve deployed Tupperware-type containers with missing lids as drawer organizers and it’s worked fine for me for “junk” or desk drawers 😀
Same here.🙌🏻
Me too. When I switched to glass, I also kept many plastic ones with lids, which were quite cute, to store things like crafting supplies and medicines. Also to organise the under the sink cupboard, cleaning supplies like sponges, dishwasherpods, microfiber cloths etc. Neat, stackable, waterproof and used what I already had. After a few years, it still works perfectly for me. Of course I'm very micro and I'm fine with lids. For those who are macro, removing the lid might be best, but you can't stack them.
I was thinking the ones tossed may have worked well to help organize the drawers.
GOOD IDEA
great idea
I think what I enjoy most is the respect you have for the clients, friends, and family that you help. Now, I can appreciate that organizing, cleaning, and purging are not the same thing. Thank you, Carla, for starting a journey I didn't know I needed. ❤❤❤ Keep these videos coming!
ohh thank you!!❤❤
I agree. You're so SWEET to everyone, especially your sister which we all love!!!
There is something very peaceful about a half empty cabinet or drawer. Less chaos is good for the brain! Sophie did a great job in decision making! Another inspirational video, Carla!
If you take any wax, whether it's cooking wax or a candle, and rub it along the tops and bottoms of the wooden drawers, it helps them close and open more easily.
You can even use bar soap, works just like the wax & depending you have a nice smell 😅
Crayons as well!
I used Linseed Oil on my stubborn wooden drawers!
So envious! I was an organizer in L.A. for over 20 years and moved out of the country last year. I JONES for organizing and now I end up watching declutter videos to calm me down and quell my need to organize. Great job, ladies!
Don't people need professional organizers in other countries??
@@lorupan1I can say that I am from Russia and it is something new and not deemed necessary as people are either in denial or view this service as something for the rich only. Not that it is too expensive, it's just that a person can do it themselves. I have only watched videos nd read several books on decluttering and I am doing it myself. I am my free personal declutter! 😊
I totally understand. I also decluttered my house all by myself when I moved into a much smaller apartment. I don't think I would have done it otherwise. Thanks for explaining! @@ЕкатеринаСёмина-у4н
Growing up, a few days before the New Year, my mother would go through the house, organizing, cleaning, and stocking the pantry and refrigerator with food. On the Eve, we would all be showered, well dressed and well fed. She believed that how you presented yourself upon greeting the year dictated how the rest of it would flow, and I find it is true. Attitude is so important. She was a lovely mother, wife, and homemaker. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing!!
I want to personally thank you for your videos. I made it a mission 30 days ago to downsize my 24' long closet (2) 12' sections on top and bottom. I finished up this week and ended up donating 9 trash bags to the homeless, 5 trash bags to a friend with a flea market booth, and 2 large trash bags to The Hope Center in IN. The Hope Center is for trafficked women. I went from 194 in 2019 before my adult son shot himself (I was his medical care provider for a year) to now 135 at the end of 2023. Thankfully he has moved on in 2022 to another city with his 2 children, wife, and her son. We were all living in a 1,100-square-foot house. It feels so good to get rid of clothes I will not wear since retiring in 2021 after 47 years in the insurance industry. Thank you so much again. Merry Christmas to you and everyone who watches your videos. PS - It took me a total of 30 days but I eliminated over 180 hangers from my closet with clothes that went bye-bye.
Wow that sounds like something out of a novel. You should write a book about that seriously
You are a rockstar. Glad things are looking up. 🌟
@@texasred2702 ❤I could write a book for real.
"My friend told me my Pyrex was toxic." People are so gullible. Think how many millions of Pyrex bowls have been made over 60 or 70 years and how many hundreds of times they have each been used. We would all be dead. I have been using my Pyrex for 50 years.
Pyrex with a small 'p' is not as heat resistant.
Great job! Love that cabinet! Just an idea - move the lint rollers to the cat drawer. I have mine on my cat shelf. Since I always need to de-lint my long hair cat hair, my brain associates the rollers with cat stuff. Before then I would loose the rollers all the time! Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁
we keep ours in the coat closet!
Love it
One cupboard and one drawer at a time. Thank you Sophie for opening your home so we can be encouraged.
She did such a great job… with the help of our girl Carla! Awesome 🎉
thanks jess!!
I can’t get over the amount of storage your friend has in her apartment kitchen in LA. That’s incredible! You all did a great job decluttering. 👏🏽
The blouse you're wearing is so pretty! Thank you for this great video and wishing you a Merry Christmas filled with wonderful moments and many blessings! 🎄❤🦌☃️❄🦔y
Another great declutter with friends. She got a great start on the biggest area of her kitchen. I LOVE that top cabinet. I wish all kitchens had large pantry cupboards like that. I'm glad she feels so much better. It does give you that feeling like she said of feeling like you can breathe better. Also the doors close now YEAH !!!!
I loved how she said “looking at this I feel like breathing is easier”.
Exactly how I feel after declutterring/cleaning and sitting back and looking at my progress!!
“This says, this woman has her shit together.”Exactly!!!! 🤣
What's helpful to me is keeping a bin in the garage for thrift store. The minute I see something to donate.. IN THE BIN! Amazing how quickly it fills up. My donation center benefits the women's and children shelter so it does my heart ❤️ good too.
I need to find a donation center like that, I know it would make it easier for me to give away 😊
@@arianagonzalez27 just "binned" my giant turkey roaster rack 🤪
@@kristibrooks967 That’s awesome! I started getting rid of more things yesterday 😊
I literally checked my notifications this morning for a video and here I am blessed with one. Amazing job, on both your parts, decluttering at the yearend always feels so good. But here's my problem with streaming--the shows and movies are always moving depending on company contracts, so to see five of my favorite movies, I would more often than not need five separate streaming sites, and girlie just don't got that kind of funds. I keep my DVDs for when the world ends and all I need is a monitor and a player.
I love that build in cabinet in the kitchen.. honestly I would find homes for everything else and use that space as a pantry and kitchen storage.
vaseline gloves: just use socks. do your research on the pryex having lead. I was told that too and trashed mine, but then heard that there is one random person saying that, so it hasn't been confirmed.
Yes, BuyNothing is amazing and so much more than a place to donate, resource and declutter. It is community, and kindness. 😊
Also, yep on Earth Breeze. As a person who is space challenged, has limited strength, and my laundry room is communal, I'm thrilled to not have to lug, refill, or deal with big bottles of detergent anymore.
And a huge thank you, Carla, for inspiring, encouraging and being that visible 'push' we all need. And all in a fun, humorous and relatable way. ❤
I absolutely LOVED watching this video!! I felt the struggle of decluttering your “old technology” dvd collection 😅 I’m 26 years old and am currently working on building my dvd collection of childhood classics and all my favorite Disney movies by thrifting most of them from goodwill! My main reason being that I need to be able to watch my favorite movies regardless of internet connection. Of course I have Disney+ but don’t always have Wi-Fi so dvds and a portable dvd player it is! 😂😊
good job!! my only real comment is that i might have kept more favorite dvds rather than relying on streaming to access them if she rewatches them regularly. streaming can be unreliable and then you would have to keep in mind what services you have and what platforms each movie is on. but if she doesn't rewatch too often, should work fine.
So cute how happy Sophie was. That is very relatable. Decluttering is a great feeling for sure 🎉
This was fun to watch and I laughed with recognition because I've kept many of the same things as Sophie in the recent past, including old calendars...and I have many years on both of you. Finally managed to let go of them (past lives), only keeping a file of those pages with my own photos. I do frame/hang them which makes me happy. Great results in four hours, plus an afternoon spent with a friend. Win/win. (Thanks for a new author to check out too.)
Ok, I just found your channel and I have binge-watched many episodes while I declutter, cook, and clean. I love your relaxed and effective approach. And the music is fantastic!
I'm so glad!😃
Okay when I heard her say she likes to make cards out of old calendars, I LOVE that idea ❤
Thank you for sharing your life and your friends also❤
Creating 'cat'egories for each shelf and drawer seems to be the key.
Lol 😂 yes!!
😹I see what you did there. lol
There’s actually a lot that’s not streaming and even if you’ve bought a movie digitally it can be removed from your library at any time.
I’ve never had a movie I bought taken out of my library.
But if you declutter the devices that you used to play them on it does no good to keep them.
@@TheCarlaProject I hope you never do! Nothing like going to watch Dogma and finding out it doesn’t exist digitally anywhere, lol.
@@williamclark1244 Absolutely agreed. I have a small DVD player and small collection of my favorite movies I'd hate to not have access to.
I always keep a several dvds for when my internet goes out generally bc of storms and I’m Sooo glad I do! We were recently without internet for four days i still had stuff to watch 😂
When the internet doesn't work, there's a big chance there's no electricity at all, so the DVD' s don't make sense.
"One day, when I have......"
As I’ve gotten older I realized that I saved stuff for a lifestyle that I don’t have and never will. I’m not a highly social person but I would have clothes and objects for social gatherings that I won’t be and don’t want to have or got to.
Dear Carla, Hello from Cyprus 🇨🇾 I’ve been watching your channel from the beginning. Your videos have given me and many others hours of encouragement, inspiration and motivation to clear our spaces. I sincerely thank you for all of your efforts in every way, you help more than you could possibly know. Wishing you health, wealth and productivity for the new year. ❤
Thank you Christine!!💝💝
Please what am I missing? What is the buy nothing category? Is it just you give away. If I had to keep it until people decided they wanted to come and get it I would go crazy I have to get it out once I decided I don't want it.
Watching this after the holidays….happy new year…you are a great friend and sister 😊❤️
She did amazing. When she took out the nail polish and said all the details.. I was like that's me too. Especially if it's a gift.
Good grief ... such a difference ... thank you Carla! Merry Christmas to you and Sampson!
She did an awesome job! Since I don't have anyone willing to help me with this I wish I could afford to hire someone
I sometimes declutter a small space while I watch a Carla video. I do one drawer or shelf at a time. It takes a while to get through a room, but eventually it’s done. I try to watch a video every day to keep my focus too. Best wishes to you as you find what works for you!
I've used lidless to-go plastic containers as drawer orgnaizers!
Have a wonderful Christmas, love her cabinets. Well done you always do a great job & so brave of your family and friends for sharing their home with everyone ❤❤❤
I love that she’s such a casual stoner 😂 she seems so cool she has a good vibe for sure I can see why you’re friends!
Idk what it is but you literally do the best decluttering videos ugh I wish I had a local Carla to help me pare down on my stuff without me getting distracted for hours by every little thing
I like my dvds, sometimes its not streaming or not on a service I have. Or for road trip with kids, or vacations.
i SO SO SO appreciate how you seperated into piles for trash recycle and buy nothing - I understand for very big projects that's not always doable with time constraints but it is so refreshing to see a responsible clear out and not auto-dumpster it!!! also I love my buy nothing group!
Great job girls!!! Merry Christmas 🎄 ☮💜
Thank you! You too!
Great video. I’ve always kept my dvd’s and books and games, I think ppl are too dependent on the internet these days. Gotta keep something around to entertain yourselves when outages happen.
i LIVE for these videos!
Some of the Tupperware you’re recycling would work for drawer organization. Looks great! Happy holidays!
Woah! There should be a LOT more than 25 items to declutter in that horde.
The majority of the items do not really belong in the kitchen.
Maybe she can move forward more at a later time.
A really great start.
I felt so sorry for the VHS tapes when they were replaced by DVDs. And now DVDs are history. Oh my, I feel so old 😢😅
Earth Breeze is great - I found it a few years ago, and it does really well. Nice that they are sponsoring you. Well deserved.
I love them too!! So much better all around ❤️
Merry Christmas . Question what is a Buy nothing?😊
I envy the amount of cabinet space she has.
Oh, she’s a Ladybug!!
one day when she has a big kitchen. FLOORED me. lol she has 4 times the kitchen I do.
I love these videos!! I’ve actually started to do this for my friends…makes me so happy to help others…. Watching from southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
I enjoy your videos! I have heard people say " I may want this when I'm 60." I say this kindly as a woman in my 70's trust me - YOU WON'T and your kids won't either.
Ooh I love all the randomness before and I absolutely love all the organization! So fun 😊
Right at the start ....CUTE top on you Carla!
Poor Tupperware it’s a brand name yet everyone seems to use it for any plastic container
I love those kitchen cabinets and of course the beautiful kitties 😻
I bet Sophie loves that ‘click’ sound every time her cabinet doors close! She really did great of course with your wonderful guidance. I have the next 10 days off of work and plan to make some decluttering happen! Have a lovely holiday Carla. 🥰
What a massive improvement. Edit - hope you have a good Christmas Carla.
you too jen thank you!!
So proud of her. It would be cute to see the console & bookshelf painted her teal colors. I can't wait to see more. James did a great job on the floors. I love this because she'll be putting things away & decluttering more.
She would feel more prepared if she had all of her end of the world things in a go bag. I understand your sensitivity to scents Carla.❤
Those gloves!😄 My dermatologist prescribed numerous of these to me to wear at night with a special cream. Nope, can not sleep with them. I use them for dusting, especially delicate items. Love it 👌
Having some dvds is good great when cable is out. Hate to pay to see something on line i had as a dvd
When cable is out I just go exercise, read a book, tackle something I've been putting off - not once did I consider looking at a DVD.
The Tupperware without lids can be used to compartmentalize drawers.
Awesome !! I have 2 rooms that need a major decluttering. When are you coming to Toronto? Haha
She did a great job 🎉
Look at you Carla in that pretty blouse! This was great, love the process. A cool vintage kitchen.
I keep my nail polish in a little box in the fridge door. Seems to help it not dry out.
I highly suggest containers because it will just get cluttered again.
I love decluttering this time of year to start the New Year fresh.
Explain the "buy nothing" pile please
I really like your new friend, she's cool! That's a great cupboard/drawer unit, tons of space. She did a good job. Nicely done!
Your content makes decluttering fun. I have a long way to go but I’ve been able to let go of more than I expected, without regret, since I started watching your channel. You make the process joyful and I really appreciate that.
Streaming keeps you on the hook for monthly payments. If a DVD is of a movie/series you rewatch often, I recommend keeping it. They also work if the internet cuts out! To conserve space, you can get albums where you just store the discs and chuck the case.
You can also buy a digital version. I don’t mean streaming it on a platform.
Old tupperware without lids are a great tool for compartmentilisation! You don't need to buy new stuff for that and throw perfect things on the landfill.
Gently tap the glass with a knife or fork and pay attention to the sound. If it makes a relatively high-pitched ringing sound, it's probably lead glass. Lead-free glass should make a lower, clinking sound.Jun 24, 2022
Great job Sophie! Progress over perfection! Next time decluttering is going to be one step easier and you will be shock for when you revisit that section of your home of how much you actually declutter again! So satisfying
For the Radically Simple cook book...there was a little hesitation there so why don't you photocopy the three/four recipes you like in that book and donate the book. (is that going against copyright rules???)
About the calendar cards, ever think of making a junk journal? That's a great way to keep those special paper items. They are assembled in one place. There are many ideas on youtube for making junk journals. Some don't involved sewing the binding. Have a look.
Satisfying video. I got lots of motivation and ideas.
Hi Carla!
I´m going to try using your method on my research material. Keep, donate, trash - instead of donate, I might have a "save" for later (not usable right now). Thanks for keeping my life more fun!
I love your channel! ❤ It has helped me declutter parts of my place this year and I thank you! Plus, im using earthbreeze now and feel like im doing my part gor our planet. Also, please let me know what song and artist is playing in the video at 12:20? Really good.🎉 happy new year Carla! Warmly, Chrissy in Cali
I never bought real dvds....I always bought some from a sketchy person at subway.
Great job! Just one thing to note, nail polish is considered a hazardous material. Most municipalities will have instructions on how to dispose of them.
I love all her storage space! Great job decluttering!
She is what Cas from Clutterbug calls a Ladybug. I know because I do the same thing, hide it behind doors 😂
Perfectly normal, we all organize differently. Ladybugs are not detailed so we are not going to take the time to put it in a specific little divided container.
I am new to this channel and am curious what it means when you're sorting items and put something in a "buy nothing" pile. What does that mean? I understand "keep, donate, recycle, trash" ... but what's "buy nothing"???
Never heard of "Buy nothing group". What is it? I REALLY ENJOYED this video very much. I have a HUGE DEEP BIN of things going to Goodwill I decluttered in Nov, Dec. Starting all over in Jan 2024.
Buy Nothing Project for the win!
Movies and shows are moved steaming platforms or removed so frequently. I started buying DVDs again for movies I love so I can stop the hunt and paying for multiple streaming services.
I rip pages out of my cookbooks, or take pics. I do NOT keep cookbooks. Internet has replaced them as has library copies. ( no ripping library books!!)
I gave away all my Tupperware and all plastic containers and bought glass containers. What a difference this has made. Ive been pretty darn neat. The cupboard looks so nice when you open it. Makes me happy.
Great job. It helps B me. Nail polishes I used to keep too…toss them all. You just need clear polish between pedicures 👏👏👏👏💐
Love your videos! Hoping for many more in the new year. Cheers!
What is the buy nothing category?
On Facebook there are local "buy nothing " groups where ppl post their stuff for free so others can come take it off their hands
fb groups by city where you can post things for people to pick up your clutter. look them up for your area!
Inspirational! I'm starting my giant kitchen cabinet (very similar to this one) tomorrow!
