Nice job! I have a suggestion which I learned myself. Really simple stuff can be made without mistakes going along. If it get's a little more complicated, as your gearbox certainly is, it really pays to make a plan in CAD or an reasonable accurate sketch by hand before start. I know it's an extra effort, but it pays of when you make stuff. Ideally you only have to handle/machine a part once and when assembled you're done. Off course tweaking is always a part of the process but adding length to already cut plates doesn't have to happen when you work like this. I'm a designer/builder for 28 years now and I learned the hard way. Get an idea, make a drawing and select all the materials you need when doing so. Make simple drawings to print (or draw) for the parts to be made. Make the parts, assemble and be happy. Hallelujah! Thank you for sharing your honest journey! Best! Job, the Netherlands

@@hilltopmachineworks2131 yeah it is. Honestly you can also make a good one it’s nothing special from an engineering point of view but it is the nicest premade one there is. I have all the different bar sizes. Rigidity is the key to success though. I use it on the bp mostly with the shorter bar. It works well but is less effective as you go bigger on diameter just w vibration. On the k&t it’s like cheating, so ridged, basically perfect finish every time insert is not damaged.

I enjoyed the video and the machining, but even after watching the beginning several times, I still missed the reason why you want a 2 speed gearbox. Is it that sometimes it does not go the full distance fast enough, or you want to be able to go in slower sometimes for delicate drilling? Maybe it is me and just missing the explanation. Hopefully someone can enlighten me so the reason matches the fun video of machining. :)
