Yeah I like EQ's too where freq choice is discrete rather than continious.

The Pultec trick works because the boost and cut curves on the EQ at the same frequency are different. when you sum the cut with the boost you get an EQ result which is difficult if not impossible to get carving with even the best parametric. Believe me, I tried for years. then I got a Pultec and went OMFG, so that's how they get that kick sound!! Nothing you do on the Manley will replicate that, and it's a pity because your kick needs a lot of help.

Anyone compared this to Acustica's Magenta?

yes. uad - sounds more musical, feels warm tube, no harshness, acustica - sounds compressed, and also no harshness. i have both, but use more uad

Can't run two instances?? Yikes! Sounds great though

+JAZZ Of course you can - you can actually run 12 instances (or 8 stereo instances) on his DUO processor. I'm afraid that Julian doesn't really know much about the gear he's reviewing. Lots of "I think it's called...", "...and so forth", "uhh... it's in the manual"... and... "but what does does it sound like, that's what's important!" -- well, yes and no. What is important is that you know what the hell is going on and why. And those things will inform you on how to properly use the gear. There are actually TWO Massive Passive EQ's included in the UAD Massive Passive: the Normal Version and the Mastering Version. They operate differently and can sound quite different, too. Another thing to note that Julian, the Pro Tools Expert, left out which is ESSENTIAL in using this plugin correctly is that it is calibrated at -14dBFS. If you hit it harder than that, the EQ will not translate the way that it is supposed to, and/or some clipping may occur.

Hi Slamcrank, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the review. I'd offer you your money back but it was free. I don't usually participate in youtube comments but in this case you're mistaken. According to the UAD instance chart you can run two stereo instances of the massive passive on a Duo as each instance uses 60.2% of a DSP. www.uaudio.com/support/uad/compatibility/instance-chart.html. The figures you quote are for the Vari-Mu.

+Julian Rodgers You're correct. My bad. Totally read the wrong line in the instance chart. My apologies.

Thats why you get uad satellites. I have ten cores now, after adding the octo satellite. I just turned on every plugin in my template, all can work at once now, not that I would, but now I can.
