SD Card: A7SIII/FX3/FX30 can shoot in 4K100/120p in XAVC-S, 10 bit 4:2:2 with no issues with a V60 card. No need for proxies. You need V90 if you want to film in INTRA but there are a lot of reviews comparing S and I and the difference is microscopic like if you blow your videos by 400%.
If you want to be a videographer, you need a great computer anyway. Thats a need in the first place. It will make your life easier. I have a Mac Studio base spec and it cuts like butter with Premier, DaVinci and FCPX.
I have a client who requires me to film his projects in Profile Off. it comes out well. The key is proper exposure. SLOG is great but in my opinion, with SLOG3, you need to control your set with lights to make SLOG3 worthwhile. S-Cinetone is awesome already. Try PP Off. I was skeptical but it works actually.
Once I got the Sony a7S3 and played with 4k60 and 4k120 with 8 and 10 bit...I knew I had to get another computer. Great video
....You are SO ON POINT about this!!! After using the A7RIV for the longest time, I rented the A1 and 'got hooked'; I ended up buying it, but did not realize my initial steep $6500 investment would end up costing me WELL over $10K!!! 😱 I TOTALLY underestimated how much Sony's high-end video codecs would choke and crush my previous desktop... then there were the multiple 2 TB Samsung NVMe's and external SSD's to keep the stress off my system... then the Atomos Ninja V+ to record straight to ProRes HQ... It never ends!! 😭😭😭
the end product is what gets the gigs
it's like people don't know about proxies and how easy they are created
@@kipkipful Uh, not everybody wants to take the time and do it that way; one would like to have the option of working directly with the original file... Besides if you have a large file or big codec with a large running time, the conversion time would still be huge...
Record prores LT 😜
Got a lot of problems with editing when I did some 4k b-roll footage for one of my documentary movies. It was a real nerve rasping to finish the video with my current computer. So probably I will need to fill faster my piggy bank for a new computer, before jumping on the camera as well.
Or you can use proxy files to edit. It's an extra step which is kind of annoying, but it's free.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Definitely have to get into proxies with those big 4k files! I even use them on some of my 1080p footage.
M1 or M2 Mac Mini…thing blazes through 4K in FCP
@puckhead1221 what about Davinci?
@@nicholasolivas317 M1 or M2 processor makes 4K/120p files run smoothly on any platform.
Very accurate insights. Real world advice here. 100% spot on.
Good thing too, the FX3 and FX30 build proxies in camera too.
Yes that’s why proxies are not a huge deal but they are still annoying though.
If you shoot in the S-I codec editing will be smoother due to it being All-Intra. The con is bigger file sizes

Is a gopro a good beginner camera ?
It depends what you're trying to achieve. There is no zoom on a GoPro so if you can film from up close or if you are happy with a very wide shot of the game in general, a GoPro might be enough. But it's very limited. I wouldn't recommend it as your main camera. Usually, in sports, people use a GoPro as a second or third camera.
I know of travel vloggers that use only a go pro with inbuilt microphones, and theyve made great videos, that have great viewing numbers.
@@spirittravels. travel and sports are very different. Cameramen can’t go on the court or on the field so they have to film from a distance. Meanwhile, when doing a travel vlog, the camera is literally a arm length away from your face.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Different types of Videos often suit different types of Cameras.
It depends on the content you're filming, and if you're up for carrying around expensive camera gear that's also very expensive, and if it is gonna be something you can therefore be consistent with.
I've seen awesome videos filmed with a go pro. They're good enough, and go where the fx 30 can't.
I think people prefer good content over perfect image quality.
It depends on what you are using it for.
Professional or not.
@@spirittravels. The original question was about whether filming sports with a Gopro was a good idea or not. My answer was that it depends on what you are trying to achieve. So I'm not sure why you seem to think that I'm all about professional cameras. If you look at my channel you'll see that 90% of my camera reviews are about budget cameras. Some of them are even cheaper than a Gopro.
You dont need proxies. This guy is totally out of it. Any I9/I7/I5 computer can handle XAVC-I provided you have either a raid o or a SSD. He just has no idea of whzt he's saying.
If it works for his workflow why does this comment even matter? Maybe your workflow is different.
Awesome video. I jumped from 24 megapixels to 33 on the Sony A7IV and my storage is feeling it

Not to mention all the time and headaches of desperately trying to make my current stuff work... I still need a hard drive to store footage... 30 seconds of 10 bit 4k 60fps footage is around 800mb fml almost a gb....😭 I love the camera but a simple go pro is starting to look so much more desirable 😂😂😂
The struggle is real! 😂
Bro. Spot on. I’ve been shooting a Canon M50 for my videos in 1080 and haven’t had a problem with editing on a 2018 Mac desktop. When I add a bunch of 4K GoPro footage that is when my computer craps the bed. Now, I am looking at a new R7 or R6 or something like that and I’m definitely going to need a new computer. 😊
You may not need a better computer with the R6 or R7 camera as they are both 8-bit (I think). The reason a lot of computers struggle with GoPro 4K footage is not the high quality. The 1080p footage from your M50 is probably better. It’s because GoPro’s codec compresses the 4K files a lot to make them smaller in size. Which is very taxing on your computer because it needs more power to decompress and play the files simultaneously.
@@BeyondTheGame_E bro. Thank you for the reply!!! I think mostly the R6 and R7 shoot in 8-bit unless if you shoot in C-log. I had no idea about the GoPro 4K codec. I hate it! The M50 does shoot some good 1080P footage, at least I think so!
@@Colorado4x4 If you're looking for ways to improve your footage without necessarily buying a new camera, look into a speed booster adapter for your M50. It will make it better in low light.
@@BeyondTheGame_E heck yea thanks. I have a speed booster and run some EF lenses and it does a great job. I think the video quality is good enough for filming my off-roading videos. I just wish it had IBIS but the IS lenses help enough and my hand is pretty steady. My biggest want is for sports! For shooting my sons soccer games. I’m in a conundrum because I don’t know if I should keep the M50 and buy a 1DX or 7Dii for sports, or just sell the M50 and get an R7 or R6 to cover sports and video.
@@Colorado4x4 I'm not sure about the 1DX but I don't think you'll get much better quality out of a 7D MkII compared to what you have now to be honest. There'll be a slight improvement but nothing crazy.
@3:35 this exact card you said it doesn't work and need to be upgraded. I use it to shoot 4k 60p .10 bit at 400mbps .and it works perfectly fine . The sony fx30 film in a higher than 400mbps?
It’s not just about the data rate, it’s mainly about the codec. Some codecs will simply not be available if you don’t have the right card.
I thought the FX30 came with dual slot SD Card/ Cfast card slots or that the FX3 I am thinking of?
They both come with dual slots that can take CF or SD cards. There are certain things that you need CF cards to do, like S&Q mode in certain codecs.
Any video showing how to work with proxies?
I don’t no. But there are a ton on RUclips though. It’s very simple don’t worry.
I've been looking for A new Camera to take pictures of my reptiles and also shoot 4k video and live podcast. I have a great ideal of the options I need from all of your review videos along with others but one thing no one ever mentions. is without editing A lot the cameras never capture the snakes true colors. so could you give me advice of what camera I can purchase in the 1k 1500 range that will pick up my snakes colors the most accurate while doing video or live podcast. for example the Cannon M50 mark 2 II is a great camera but fails to capture the oranges or bright colors very well to make them look like they do to the naked eye.
Do you always do a proper white balance before you start filming or do you just leave it on auto?
Im looking for a camera about 1000$ that can deliver 4k/60fps or 1080p/60fps through either usb-c(to rj45) OR hdmi directly but its a mess to find.
Would love to have an FX30 for my floorball broadcasts but its a bit too expensive atm :(
I really like your reviews and tips n tricks, its helping me alot to produce better broadcasts 🙌
Can’t the ZV-E10 do it?
Panasonic Lumix s5. Was 1300€ in Finland with kit lens. You can get it really good price used.
A used GH5 is your best bet.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Something wasnt right when i bought it and tried, if it was the HDMI out or the Elgato HD60X Capture Card im not sure of but had to return the camera due to last day of "open buy return policy".
Worked great with 60fps for 15-20 sec then went down to 30 fps for 4-5 secs.
The computer i use is a Lenovo P1Gen3 with i9-10850H,64GB Ram and a Nvidia Quadro T2000 gpu.
@@pd-cleaner no idea what the issue would be in this scenario, sorry.
The backend costs are definitely a consideration. Good advice. I hate shooting in log personally. Just extra work, but for better low light performance, I should probably start playing with it. I wonder if the dual iso is the same in all the other non-log profiles - 125 and 400?
No, it varies for the most part.
I love log profiles in 10-bit. Finally I can push the image just like I can push RAW photos.
The camera is a dual iso with 800 & 2500 iso, but outside of Cine IE you have the possibility to go below or above these values, whether this makes sense depends on the situation or the conditions.
Moreover, the memory card does not have to be faster because the data rate or the data is larger, but because the cam has to buffer more frames in the same time.
@@guidorehme Just to be clear, you can use any ISO on any camera but the BASE ISO's are the ISO values with no noise/grain. So if you go below or above, you introduce noise and lose some dynamic range as well.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Yes, of course, but that didn't rule out my answer.
So i dont need Cfexpress SD on it? I can buy Prograde v90 and it works perfectly?
I think from memory that if you record in the HAVC HS codec, you can’t record some frame rates in S&Q mode with a V90 card or something like that. I can’t remember what the actual thing is because it’s so obscure and far from anything I would do that I never paid it much attention.
Like how u delineate the differences between iso-s of Cinetone & SLog3. Why shooting in Slog3 makes sense if u want to shoot sporting events which are often in low light conditions. Yeah, this whole biz can be very expensive. First the camera body, then one lens, then another and then another, tripods, monopods, gimbals, the list goes on forever. Then we have the very cheap affordable orange computers courtesy of silicon valley. The saddest part is when ur team loses and u have all of this recorded forever. 😎😎
True! 😂
CFExpress Type-B cards are a better deal than those V90 cards IMO. I got a 512gb on for 180 euros, but it was for the GH6 that does PRORES 422 HQ, a much easier file to edit on your computer.
That's not compatible with fx30
Great video 👍🏼
I have been using the late 2018 intel chip max book and so far I haven’t had any issues editing in FCPX.
Also V60 does the job well enough, I haven’t seen any huge difference between 4:2:2. And 4:20 so why not save money of V60’s you know.
To each their own but for me I prefer to film in 422, maximize the dynamic range and color grade the footage to my liking.
@@BeyondTheGame_E I don’t think 4:2:2 provide more DR over 4:2:0 but for slight edge to color grading why not.
@@alieazzy1631 well 422 allows you to adjust your shadows and highlights without destroying your image. Way more than 420. If that’s not dynamic range, I don’t know what is. Dynamic range is not simply the number of stops in camera. It’s the ability to produce dark shadows and bright highlights in the same image and retain detail in both.
@@BeyondTheGame_E it’s call color sampling and bandwidth during signals encoding, there is nothing technical regarding DR between these two codes.
@@alieazzy1631 so if I understand correctly, we are basically saying the same thing but you just don’t like the fact that I include color sampling under the dynamic range umbrella.
Would you say the Sony FX30 is not worth buying if you are not going to shoot in 4k?
I personally don't want to have to upgrade everything to start accommodating the 4k workflow.
I recently bought a Sony a6400 and discovered I like using it more for photography but will continue to practice with video. 1080 only.
But the FX30 seems real tempting as a possible video only camera for me
All mirrorless cameras offer 4K so it's not like you're going to find a camera with similar features but in 1080p only. So I guess it depends what your alternative choice would be. In the same price range, I don't really see the upside to any other camera if it's for video only.
@@BeyondTheGame_E
Okay thank you and thank you for all the insightful information you share 🙏🏼
@@TScalibrate have you invested in good Sony lenses? For video I would recommend you check the Blackmagic Pocket 4K. You can get it second hand for a great price and it's great for video. It has its own problem, but for image quality, ease of use and price you won't find anything better.
If you decide to shoot hd with a 4k sensor (depending on the camera you buy) look to see if it down the entire 4K sensor to a hd image that’s an advantage and gives you a sharper hd image.
rolling shutter good enough for sports?
I’m my opinion, yes it is.
How about lenses for the camera?
Here’s my video about my favorite lenses for sports ruclips.net/video/omGdWeu0LLg/видео.html
Got the FX30. At 10 bit my computer stutters. At 8 bit it’s no problem. I can always upgrade computer when needed. I’m happy with my fx30!
Yeah it's good to be prepared and have the 10-bit option even if you don't need it right now. You never know what project might come up in the near future!
Which computer do you have?
@NellyChanelleFilms Apple M1 Max MacBook Pro
This is where recording to usb ssd is handy. you can get huge sizes and a lot of them are faster than cfast. a 2tb decent m.2. ssd will be a couple hundred and it means you can plugin directly to you comp to edit.
I edit gh5 5.5k 4:3 10bit videos and my PC runs ok, I am using a 2070 and have an older AMD CPU (~2017/2018) and 32GB of low latency RAM (cl14, 3899mhz), when I start adding NR layers and other vfx layers etc. they can slow down a bit, but otherwise it runs fine in the edit. I wish it recorded to ssd.
Yeah the reason you were having issues was because of the IMac hardware, they were using really old cpus when released (usually 1-2 gens behind), slow harddrives (MacOS seems to use more paging than Windows regardless of memory) and very low-end ram sticks (corsair level), their gfx cards were also terrible for video editing or any real 3d work as they were mid-range gaming cards rather than using the firepro etc.
M1/M2 is much better except for the 3d work, but then you have the hard drive size limitations so you will have to use a NAS or other external storage. M1/M2 also struggle greatly when they hit an unsupported codec though, so a pro format like DNx-- and others like BMRaw etc. will not run well on Apple compared to AMD/Intel systems. Particularly if those systems have decoder cards or even Nvidia gaming cards. I also dislike how limited monitor connections are in the M1/M2 ecosystem.
So depending on your ecosystem it will alter how much extra you are up for, for example if you go with the BM range, a PC (Linux or Windows) tends to work better and most systems run it well even at 6k (RAW-like formats being only bandwidth limited and requiring very little CPU to decode, it may slow down with slow hard drives or spinning disk hard drives). If you go with something using older formats like XAVC, 264 then more procesisng power or a decoder card will be required in the edit, this adds to the cost, so then the M1/M2 become more monetarily comparable.
Another factor to take into consideration is ecosystem experience. If you are used to MacOS or Windows, you may want to stick with that unless the speed difference between what you are doing outweighs the time it takes to get used to a new ecosystem that is faster. TBH from a programmer's perspective they are much of a muchness and both borrowed most of their good ideas from linux.
I was tempted by the fx30/fx3 but the cost vs the payoff is just not worth it for me. I would want 12 bit colour, and usb-c raw recording for the price they are asking and I would also want to access the entire sensor resolution in the options and better rolling shutter. If I already had some glass in the ecosystem it would be a hard maybe.
But comparing BMP6k and sigma fp where you can get both of these for a lower price I think I'm going to lean that way.
Thanks for all the info!
@@BeyondTheGame_E no problem, also good video, the hidden costs is something that a lot of people forget, particularly with RED cameras (they do not play well with non-red gear) and Apple always means you will be paying a premium (the LG monitor used for the latest Apple display was half the Apple's price on release)
lmao i just bought this damn 4k camera only to find out that my pc i built for 2k+ last year isnt strong enough for 4k 120fps 10bit.. insane.. 8bit will do for now i guess lol
Or proxies.
Is the canon rp good for basketball videography?
Yes, any camera is good. It just depends on what your expectations are. For example, you wont be able to shoot at high frame rates in 4K but that might not be necessary for you.
Canon RP has a crop in 4k so might not be ideal unless u have super wide lens.
Canon r7/r10 might be good if the lighting is decent in the gym.
If cash is no issue then get r62 or r5c
I’m shooting with an A6600, and was debating the big jump to an FX3 this year. But that means new lenses as well to get full benefit of the full frame sensor, so even more $$$. The FX30 might be a good middle ground, where I can use my existing APSC glass. And upgrade my SD cards…
That’s true. Or you could look for some good deals on secondhand lenses.
Converting to prores should help with lag. I always transcode Sony files to prores before import.
That’s true. But just like proxies, it’s an extra step that takes time before you can start editing your video. It also means that you will need a lot more storage because now you need space for both your raw files and your ProRes files (which are much bigger).
@@BeyondTheGame_E It's another step, but I edit in FCPX which is optimized for prores which makes up for any time transcoding which isn't that much of a hard drive space killer tbh. One thing I like to do when shooting 120fps is set the S&Q to end trigger mode. This way you always get the shot, saves drastically on SD card space, editing times, and hard drive space.
Well it’s common sense. I’ve spend around 15k to start my RUclips channel just for SSD, Camera, PC, Lenses, Gimbal and all that Fun stuff you will need long story or short… 4k is huge and needs a lot of power. This is kinda the thing everyone was talking about when it came out. And even with compression if you use it. Doesn’t make it better. I’ve got a Maxed Out iMac just to have stutter free playback >_> but is it necessary. No. Almost no one uses 4k. Like 2% gets watched in 4k the rest watches on their Phones or on their older consoles… etc.
Great video
Thanks 😊
10 bit and higher has been around for a while. If your computer can’t handle 10 bit 4K what are you doing? I’m editing on an HP Z820 from 2011 and an asus labtop from 2018 and I’m editing redcode 6K raw natively so to say that you need a computer newer than 2020 is ludicrous.
To be fair, assuming that a youtube channel is only talking to people at your level is also a bit ludicrous. Most of my audience are beginners who recently started filming and editing sports videos as a hobby, as a potential career or simply to as something to do with their kids. So this is who the advice on this channel is mainly for and I always approach most topics from the perspective of a beginner on a limited budget.
@@BeyondTheGame_E most gaming pcs including entry level prior to 2020 can handle compressed 4K 10 bit video. If it’s a hobby you’re doing with your kids why does 10 bit even matter?
@@A_I_M_E People usually come to me because they want to know how to improve the quality of their videos. So I educate them about their options (including 10-bit color depth) but I also let them know about the added cost and work that comes with those options. Which is pretty much what this video is about.
I think people neglect the concept of getting a camera to grow into. Buying an FX 30 DOES NOT OBLIGATE YOU to buy all the support gear to maximize every feature.
Nobody said you are obligated to shoot log, 10 bit, 4K or 120 frames the minute you get the camera.
That’s true. Theres no rush.
Whilst the fx30 is a fantastic Camera, a decent enough entry level Mirrorless, is gonna be almost as good in terms of image quality after posted on utube .
You only need the FX30 if you absolutely need the best image quality, and are making films for the big screen.
You're gonna need a much better camera than the FX30 to shoot a film for the big screen. Just to put things in perspective, ARRI's latest digital cinema camera is worth $75K.
The FX30 is still using a sensor based off mirrorless sensors. It's not a truly optimized video sensor like other S35 cinema cameras (RED/BMPCC/ARRI). Not many pro-sumer sensors come close to the cine cam realm. I think only the X-H2S is close enough. That said, entry level mirrorless are never going to be as good as high end pro-sumer cameras. They're full of line-skipping, binning, heavy compression, horrible codecs etc.
It is possible to put FX30 on the big screen, after all, there was a Hong Kong director who shot a film on the GH5S. Putting budget towards lights and crew helps far more than towards the camera.
@@BeyondTheGame_E cant fully agree with that footage from 5 and 7Ds from canon have made it into big Hollywood movies and tv shows. Look up cameras on the web site shot on what it’s a database that lists all the cameras used to shoot movies. You would be surprised at how many entry level cameras were used on blockbusters.
What’s weird are the clients that want 4K but don’t know what “1080p” means
How is that weird? 🤔 why would they bring up 1080p if they don't want that.
:v!!
This video is not 120p, most people have no need for 120p
True, but you usually film in 120p to deliver in 30p and be able to slow down 4x, not to deliver in 120p
You might not use 120p all the time but it’s a great thing to have in sports videography. I film all my games at 120p.

I want to consider this camera but the noise is killing me.
Do you mean in 4K/120 or just in general?
Exactly. 1080p timeline on a decent GPU & CPU editing computer is the way to go. 1080p is faster to edit and you focus on your content. Adding the Special Effects (FX) on the video are much easier with 1080p than 4k video size.
But the 1080p footage doesn’t look Netflix movie or series quality , filming in 4k downscaling it to 1080p still has a Netflix series look .
@@boomboombaby9140 For RUclips independent films they are fine. Let's be honest most of us won't be directing Netflix films. @@educatetube I film music videos and if the artist pay top dollar I rent a red , the fx30 gives me the same type of quality. Small niggle but I think 4k is a little more than 4x the size of an equivalent 1080p file.

Hello man! Can you upload some 4k original 60p footage to see if our computers can handle the footage?
My point was about 4K/120p 10-bit footage in the highest quality codec. But I’m sure your computer could handle some version of 4K/60p from this camera if it already does from another camera. For you to do the test you’re asking for, I would have to upload so many clips with different combinations of color depth and codec. That would get quite complicated.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Thanks for nothing dude
Asus Zephyrus G14 from 2020 - 4k120p works, its laggy but editable... if i transcode to prores422, works fine and a LOT easier....
Is your footage 10-bit though? That makes a big difference. Either way, transcoding to ProRes is a good idea but it’s still an extra step just like using proxies.
@@BeyondTheGame_E yes it is... i edited today with another 120p files, without transcode. it worked fine, sure it was lagging but not so much where impossible for edit. Maybe final cut is different with older hardware, I'm using premiere pro with gpu accelerated sequence (gtx 1660ti and ryzen 7 4800hs). I think if you do heavy colorgrading and effects, it would be much worse. I'm using the Atomos Ninja 5 with LUT recording, i just only need the LUT to apply afterwards on the Sony files if i gonna use the 120p files (food content, the clips are mostly in 60p ProRes). I can work with that. i recommend strong hardware too and also the newest editing software with the latest updates... your workflow is also important, not every scene is necessary in 120p, so keep in mind what you want, XAVC-S are not editing friendly.
Proxies are awesome.
Hi - I only need to shoot 1080p 50fps does the FX30 still makes sense, or should I buy a cheaper camera.
Technically that’s all I need as well but I like to go above and beyond so that my videos stand out for all the right reasons. And I do think this camera makes sense even in 1080/50p because it also offers a bunch of valuable features and the image quality is very good in 1080 since it’s downsized from 4K.
I’m thinking about switching from A7III to Fuji X-T5 or XH2 what do you think about this cameras for basketball highlights?
Sorry, I’m the wrong person to ask that question to. I’ve never used a Fuji camera in my life.
Fuji cameras are good i recently sold my xt3 to get a canon r because I have moved into the canon ref eco system with the cinema cameras I have. But Fuji is a great camera. Recommendation is to do research into the lenses and any other accessories you may want to buy.
Lol,wait till you get to work with RAW video. A lot of people jump to 4K or RAW without realizing that their post workflow resources cannot handle it. Why would you do 4K if you're not being paid for it?
I get what you’re saying but it’s a bit like saying: why would you buy expensive basketball shoes if you’re not in the nba. Some people just like to do or have the best they can.
Exactly, it is staggering how quick the computer and storage costs add up when you jump a level or two in video quality... still photographers have it easy in comparison!
Indeed! 🙌🏽
Hey what sd card do you recommend for the new Sony a6700 to record all modes with no issues up to 4k 120. And which one is fine to use for normal 4k and fotos. Thanks hope you can help
I have no idea about the A6700 specifically but I use Prograde V90 cards and they work great.
what you think about Sony ZV-1F Vlog Camera
I think it is exactly what it pretends to be. A budget friendly vlog camera. Unusable to film sports from a distance though since there is no zoom.
Wisdom talk, at the end!
Thanks so much for that!
Glad it was helpful!
The way you mimicked the lag 😂😂 I thought my phone broke @5:15
I’m glad you liked it! I wasn’t sure if people were gonna get it 😂
@@BeyondTheGame_E yea it’s very accurate lmfaooo also I forgot my Facebook password made a new one and wanted to join the videographer community you have, what’s the name or link of it?
@@kvngalex3461 It's called: Sports Videography Community (there's a link in the description)
Everything so said I have been going through I'm now in that stage to by a new m1 macbook pro since my specout imac 2012 don't make it anymore soon for fx30😅
You don’t like editing with proxies?
@@BeyondTheGame_E I started to work with proxies but i think on the long run i wont really help my workflow
@@S18football yeah sad thing is 2012 macs are out of date I have a 2012 Mac mini and MacBook Pro but the m1 and m2 are impressive
I wonder if the FX30 and/or FX3 will ever be capable of 4k/120 in-camera proxies? I know they will do it up to 4k/60 which is a great time saver.
I think (not 100% sure) that they do it already only if you use CF cards.
You are going to need to use Sony’s CF Express Type A cards, they are pricey but allow you to record in XAVC HS or XAVC S-I.
Do you think v60 cards would be sufficient for starting put in xavc s 4k h264 24/60fps? Or should I budget for v90 upfront?
Maybe. I think you can use the camera with v60 cards but definitely not at 120fps and potentially not in 4K either but I’m not sure. That information is available online though, you just have to look up the camera specs.
@@BeyondTheGame_E The 4k 120p is v90 or cfexpress only :( File sizes get huge (and expensive) quick at combination of resolution frame rate!
@@johntupper1369 True, it's the current price to pay for high quality.
I have the fx3 en v60 cards. I can shoot 4K 100fps xavc HS on them.. only the all-intra modes need v90 or above
@@wesley.lenting That's in 8-bit though. 10-bit is a different ball game.
Not sure how In 2023 if your a serious videographer you are not shooting in 4K and have the computer to edit this.
It all comes down to budget really.
And to be fair, the only reason I started shooting in 4K is for my RUclips videos. 99% of my clients couldn’t care less and I still deliver in 1080p to most of them because all the stadiums have 1080p Jumbotrons and scoreboards. It’s not like these things get updated very often.
@@BeyondTheGame_E Agree and thank you for the info!!
Yeah I just upgraded to the a7iv and then realized I need to buy a resolve studio license to edit 10bit, and also buy a cfexpress type a card which are insanely expensive. Also storage requirements are crazy, and I just bought a 6tb drive for archival of my b-roll I’ve used in RUclips videos. Luckily my MacBook keeps up. Glad someone is talking about these hidden costs.
You can use SanDisk Extreme PRO v30 UHS- I @ 170MB/s for 4K60p 10 bit bro (the first ones shown in the video). You don't need to fork out for a CF-A card 👍🏾
@@tre.portraysSandisk v90 would be better
So funny (and annoying) how the "10 bit" is mandatory for every footage., Nobody talks anymore about what are you shooting, how you capture the action/emotion. Is all about pixels, bits and specs on paper 🥱😂
To be fair, I have several videos on my channel about storytelling and how to film sports and show as much emotions as possible. But it’s just not what this particular video is about.
Well, people were making great pieces of content in 8bit for years. If you don’t expect heavy Color grading later in post, 8bit is still an option, most people will fail to tell 8bit from 10bit
That’s true and I actually talk about it in my FX30 review video.
Most standard monitors are still 8bit plus like he said in the video the amount of different colors are in from millions to billions you will never notice. 10 bit stays together better than 8 bit when you are pulling on the footage. But if you have your settings right and shoot to your look 8bit is fine.
