    Gotta say- if you're not sure on what to do in life look to these guys. Decades of pursuing their passion and communicating it over different forms of media as the years have passed. I'm sure there's been some highs & lows. It would be cool to get a "Star Wars Episode 1" perspective on Fri/Finn/Dul from over the years. I saw the episode of how David met Steve- would be great and inspiring to see what it has taken to get to where Roadkill is today. Really- thanks for the work.

      depending on the part of the truck you look at it could be anything from 1973-1991 because the 1 ton and suburbans were still square bodies until the change over for the 1992 model year

    • @alain.r

      Here Kitty Kitty ! Only on the 1500 trucks. You could get a square body suburban or 2500/3500 up until 1991. They had a facelift to two headlights side by side above the turn signals.

    • @BoughtNotBuilt
      @BoughtNotBuilt 7 лет назад +5

      Here Kitty Kitty ! No he isnt. The half ton and 3/4 ton pickups stopped in 87. the Blazers, Suburbans, and 1 ton pickups kept the body style all the way until 1991.

    • @Looptydude
      @Looptydude 7 лет назад +1

      It's pretty massive, while not particularly expensive I'd estimate 50-60 bucks at a hole in the wall sign shop, more if you have them put it on. The expense comes in shipping it out. It would have to be rolled in a tube and tubes cost money and shipping is more than just a stamp.

  • @DeanMk1

    The Roadkill Muscle Truck always reminds me of something I saw in a magazine when I was kid.
    Mr. Freiburger may remember an automotive magazine called "PV4", which stood for "Pickups, Vans, and 4-wheel drives".
    It was a mag dedicated to those types of vehicles and in a time before Consumer's Reports existed, this was your bible, if you were considering buying a pickup, van or 4-wheel drive, because all they did were new vehicle and new product tests. There might be 5 or 6 tests in a magazine, interspersed with editorial articles, like "ask the editor" or "tech tips", those kinds of things.
    They started in 1972 and were a quarterly publication through 1973, going monthly for the next 10 years until it became "Vans and Mini trucks" in the early 80's, reflecting that craze at that time.
    Anyway, it was either the 2nd or 3rd quarter issue from 1973, they featured a test on a 1/2 ton Chevy truck.
    That was a brand new body style then (what we now refer to as the "square body") and the example they got for the test was a 1/2 ton, short and narrow with a big ol' 454/TH400 setup, probably with 3.73's in the rear end (which was the stock ratio all Chevy trucks got back then).
    Their opinion was Chevy did a good job updating the truck and the drive train made it one of the funnest vehicles any of them had driven in recent memory.
    In fact, my dad replaced his 1960 Apache 10 with a 1974 Chevy C10, partly due to that article.
    I remember they did a big centerfold action picture of the truck in that issue, with someone pulling a big ol' brodie on a dirt lot somewhere.
    Cool as heck, to a 10-year old. 😉
    I remember it was red and that redd-ish fender on the Roadkill Muscle truck, plus the short and narrow bed and square body body style, always takes me back to seeing that picture in that magazine (which I might still have....somewhere).
    Anyway, little anecdote from my life experiences.

    these trucks are so easy to mis mash - my 69 has a late 70's early 80's 305 (with quadrajet), a chev tailgate, 90's dodge seats(actually fit really well, i recommend this mod!). And transmission...I have no clue there, all I seem to have it D R and N L1 and L2 there is just a wall (it is a 3 speed!) (I also do not have neutral disconnect or reverse lights!). And my heater control unit seems to be from some sort of 80's Gm, in the summer I need to recirculate my water hoses by -passing the heater core (otherwise I cook out). I do say, this 305 with just pipes (no muffler) is amazing - when those secondaries open up it sounds like the gates of hell opened lol.

    Hey Frieburger, that isn't an original hood. The raised panel portion on the front of the hood marks it as either a re-pop, or an OE '78-80 hood. '73-77 didn't have that raised portion, and re-popped hoods all have the raised portion.

    Not sure if you guys read these comments but although mtod doesn't interest me, I would dig a series of magazines that document various in depth tests on different kinds of engines. (Like LS engines) So for example a magazine dedicated to about every test and result of what happened in any test about the LS engine. I'm not talking just cam durations here but extremely in depth, thought out tests. Experimenting with valve events, head designs, converters, springs, etc. Id buy that magazine. I want info about my engine that I otherwise couldnt feasibly just test on my own.

      Pure class...tens of thousands of dollars in engine alone, took the time to tear the doors apart to install sound insulation, and didn't get crank handles. The great thing is, the 2 vice grips are probably more expensive than the actual handles, but score way higher for style points

    Legit roadkill should make their own RUclips channel! They would make more money

      No they wouldn't. They're making a lot more from MTOD than they're making from RUclips.

    Still one of the best roadkill vehicles, it's actually nice, if it got a full paint job you would never know it was a roadkill truck haha.

    That is a lot of motor for 13.10, but that is a massive brick of a truck. That powertrain in an 80s El Camino might get into the 11s with lower gearing.
