Fun fact: he wrote this song shortly after teaching himself how to play the piano. This is the level of genius at work here. AFAIK he’s a guitarist first, but decided he wanted to write a record on piano (Diorama), so he got a piano and taught himself how to play it.
We're very lucky to have lived at the time Dan gave us this music. The guy IS a musical genius.

as he got older he has showed off a lot more chops but he is very tasteful with it and he has an absurd falsetto. This era was when his voice took a huge jump forward. more people need to react to him especially later era Silverchair and his solo stuff. such a phenomenal talent.

Daniel Johns is the kind of prolific frontman that any band would like to have it.
I’m so glad you’ve finally been introduced to the genius that is Daniel Johns.
He also has a lot of hard rock songs and has an awesome rock voice and is a great guitar player.
He apparently is his own harshest critic and makes a song, plays it to a select group who thinks it’s amazing, before destroying it because he thinks it wasn’t good enough.
Check out his cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Also ‘Ana’s Song’ which is about his fight with anorexia that shows his guitar playing and belting hard rock voice. The best version is from BDO 2002. I think you’ll be in love with his voice.
After my dad died in hospital I was driving back home and silverchairs song the greatest view came on the radio.... for those who don't know the lyrics , it says.....I'm watching you watch over me and I've got the greatest view.......such a sad night but that song and the timing put a big smile on my face 😊 Daniel Johns and silverchair have some great song....
Daniel is the lead signer of Silverchair who were HUGE in the 90s. They went world wide, preformed at MTV music awards and more. They were dubbed " baby Nirvana" as they were 16 years old when they got really big. They were very much grunge/ Seattle Sound but mellowed and become very artistic as they got older.

The band members were only 15 when they recorded their first album Frogstomp...very grunge / rock sound. But over the years the band continued to grow & reach new heights...I believe all 4 Silverchair albums went straight to number 1...with each album different from the previous.
Daniel's side projects were also Stella...love the one with Paul Mac.
But like most geniuses Daniel struggles with his own demons.
Fingers crossed that he continues to feed his talent & keep the worlds expectations at bay 🙏
Yep, only his first solo album "Talk" didn't reach #1 in the charts in 2015 but his last album "FutureNever" reached the 1st position in the ARIA charts last month

Dan’s new album “FutureNever” is out everywhere at midnight tonight! Aussie’s have already had the privilege of hearing it, but the whole album is sure to be reaction-worthy. Daniel Johns is a freaking genius, a fan since the 90s for sure. And the new version he released if “After All These Years” for anyone who placed a pre-order. His voice is my favorite, and he’s just so dang talented. Ahhhh, Dan, we love you!!

i remember watching this when it went to air in 2003. The Panel was an awesome show and I've been a Silverchair fan since the 90's.
This is the best version of this song live 🥰 and he didn’t know how to play piano until he wrote this song.
Newcastle is the best for me.

My favorite musician of all time. Seriously, his musicianship and voice have become something I always compare others with, intentionally or not.
U should look up his other songs you will be shocked at his full rock voice. He has the growl, grunt, grit , power, the beauty of a falsetto and rich tone. My idol and inspiration!
I grew up in Australia kinda close to Dan when he was in silverchair and the scope of this musical potential still moves me
I’m so happy to see this and thankful to the person who requested it. People aren’t lying when they say he’s a genius. He truly is. He’s the type who “hears” the color purple or “sees” what apple tastes like. A rare breed who literally lives for music and isn’t afraid to experiment. You would never think this same guy wrote heavy ass grunge songs and sang the shit out them in the 90’s at just 14 years old. His story is amazing and his music is even better, especially his new album FutureNever

Some background Daniel was the lead singer of the rock band Silverchair formed when the lads were 12 first single Tomorrow was a no 1 hit when they were 15!!! 🤯Daniel was later struck down with rare form of arthritis Reactive Arthritis For which she underwent treatment in LA. The Silverchair song Walking in Straight Lines is about his struggle with this. Bothe of these songs would me a good starting point for your journey into the deep well that is Daniel Johns a brilliant rock vocalist frontman and composer and now collaborator and soloist 😎💕

One of the absolute best artists Australia has ever produced. The Silverchair discography (his old band) is one of THE most diverse set of albums from a band you're ever likely to hear. Each one is totally different. Total genius. Troubled genius. But still a genius.

What a weird way to be introduced to Daniel Johns. An alternative rock voice with a raspy voice full of strain and stress backed by metal riffs singing a beautiful ballad. Been a big fan of Daniel for 24yrs now. Interesting to see if you react to, ‘Tomorrow’ ‘Israel’s Son’ ‘The Door’ etc

Those aren't really the best songs for showcasing Daniel's vocal talents though. They're good songs but not really "singer" songs.
@dontlookup001 wait where is the criticism? I just thought it was interesting this was the first song he experienced. I grew up in the 90s when Silverchair was all alt rock/metal and Daniel hadn't changed styles yet. Anyway this guy only does requests if you pay him. $10 US minimum.

I ❤️ Silverchair since early 90ties. This is one of my fav songs in the world, very good harmony and here a lot of variations. I recommend "Those Thieving Birds", it is like a symphony.
This whole album Diorama was a very introspective album for him. He was very sick first with anorexia a form of arthritis. The song from this album called The Greatest View is also beautiful. The whole album is great.
I was wondering when someone would put Daniel Johns in front of you… but as you hear more from him you’ll realise that there are many other sides to him and his artistic output👍🏻👍🏻
This was nearly 20 years ago when Daniel was 21 or 22. He'd been involved with versions of Silverchair since the age of 12 and became world-wide famous at 15. You can listen to his podcast about his life to find out what early fame etc. did to him. He's now 42 and supposedly has an album coming out on his 43rd birthday this month(April). He's taken his music in a lot of different directions, always interesting, but he seems to be a perfectionist and doesn't put out a lot by today's standards. He's also said he may never perform onstage/live again. Pity, but in his case, understandable. Might be interesting if someone asks Nick to review some of his later stuff post Silverchair.
I was reading this and I was like, nah this was only about ten years ago, like in 2003. Then I remembered that I’m old AF.
He completely cooked his voice through over-singing and straining. The last few years of his live performances were painful to watch. I doubt he would ever be able to resume touring again, even if he wanted to. He did irreversible damage to his voice. Probably can still make recordings though by singing when it's feeling good.
@@andoletube I saw them live during the last Silverchair tour and his voice was amazing. That was a while ago now though.
@@littleflick Yeah, that's going back a bit. He really should have stopped singing Straight Lines though. That song caused him untold hassles with his voice. I think his main reason for retiring from live work was more to do with his anxiety levels though.

Oh he has ALOT more tools in his pocket. You should hear his grungy growl in "spawn again". You listen to that, and his personal masterpiece "emotion sickness" where he wrote all the lyrics and music for it.
He opened the MTV awards when he was 14 with Sliverchair. He was hard out rock. Listen to his voice before he lost it due to illness.
Daniel Johns is one of my favourite artists of all time. His solo song Preach is a great song as well if you want to hear him go all out range-wise. He's definitely worth seeing live as well.

As an Aussie I am a huge fan of Silverchair, unfortunately they have been broken up for a while but I look forward to see what Daniel does next. Yes they are a big deal. Daniel is something of a musical prodigy as they released their first music when the band members were only 14 and he released genius work by 19! I don't know if they are really your thing but it would be great to see you react to some more of their songs. If you think he has a beautiful voice wait until you hear him scream. 😅I shuddered a bit at the Keith Urban reference though I have to admit haha.

You need to listen to the Diorama album start to finish. It’s the only album I don’t feel the need to skip a single song. It’s fucking brilliant.
Also think you should listen to some of his OG stuff to see how much he’s changed musically from a 15 year old nirvana esque grunge kid to this glorious music.

You are spot on when you say he has more up his sleeve. Put a guitar in his hand and see what happens. For a while SilverChair were nicknamed Nirvana in Pyjamas .. I remember Courtney Love commenting on Daniel's stage presence and the nod to Nirvana

He's so gifted and vocally awesome!, he did so many times a C#6, INCREDIBLY INCREDIBLE!!! And then sustained notes for q very VERY long long time, then, he can perfect melismas as a he only can, plus, he sings clear, raspy, grunts, head voice, and reach whistle tones without whistling. Is there something he can't do with his voice? 😍🖤
