In Part 3 of The Complete History of Square, we're exploring what happened after the release of Final Fantasy. It sees us delve into the creation of Hanjuku Hero, Final Fantasy II and SaGa (aka The Final Fantasy Legend), while also exploring the rise in production of merchandise and soundtracks and Square's expansion into North America!

This is amazing. The amount of detail is wonderful. The best part for me is learning about all the games Square has made that I haven't heard of before, as well as ones I have but never knew were from Square (Rad Racer? Wow!). Keep up the good work!

I thought it was well known. I've known they made Rad Racer since I was playing FF7. But we had the internet back then and I had a friend who loved Square.

I’m just getting to part 3 and I have to say this series is incredible!! Hardly anybody in the RUclips community makes thorough videos like this covering the Japanese business and history of companies that don’t typically get translated to English.

Watched for the story of SaGa. The Final Fantasy Legend was one of the most imaginative and formative games in my life. I already liked Ultima, Dragon Warrior, and Final Fantasy beforehand. Interesting what the original vision for Seiken Densetsu was.
The quality of the "Complete History of Square" vids made supporting the Legacy of the Crystal an obvious decision. Please keep up the excellent work!

Crazy that Seiken Densetsu was almost a precursor to final fantasy.
I do love that series. secret of mana is one my all time favourites and is one of the first games i ever played. Glad they were finally given the opportunity to make that game.

I'm thoroughly surprised that we didn't get to the 90s yet. I had no idea how much info and history there was to get through. I look forward to the next part of the series.

I'm a HUGE game collector and one of my favorite franchises is the Final Fantasy series. I also had no idea Rad Racer was made by Square. Great job on this documentary! Looking forward to part 4!
Down time between parts 2 and 3 was rather long but i also appreciate the details you are willing to go into to as well. Please take as much time and spend as much time in videos telling us the history of this brilliant company. I cant get enough and love long form content

Closing in on almost 2 years since part 1 was posted, I think i've finally accepted that even if more eps ever come out (and i'm no longer hopeful of that), this series will never be finished. Part 3 only covers up to 90-91 or so, there's still another 30 Years worth of Square to get through just to take us up to today if they really wanted to be COMPLETE and Square isn't going to stop having History to document any time soon I don't think.
So part 4? Been watching every single one but can tell you once it’s finished I’ll be rewatching them all at once!
I wasn't expecting to find out how well Makai Toushi Sa·Ga sold. I thought it was a niche series. I loved that game as a kid.

Thank you for the kind words! To answer your question, The Complete History of Square is on hiatus for now due to how complex the project was becoming. We've instead decided to pivot over to focussing solely on Final Fantasy, but in a lot more depth. Fantastic work. The amount of detail you go into really helps to get a clear picture of the state of Square and the wider japenese industry at the time.
Once this series is all said and done, it seems like a great topic to print as a follow-up book to Legacy of the Crystal. Great work as always and I'm excited to get my copy of LotC!

I had NO clue that Rad Racer was a Square property! What a great video series, and I can't wait for part 4!
Also maybe put years into the title of the video, "The Complete History of Square | 1988-1989" is a lot more approachable for people who did not watch the first parts yet compared to "The Complete History of Square | Part 3"

It's so clear so much effort has been put into this. As stated at the end, there are many pieces to the puzzle but I love that you guys seem to delve into each of them without it ever becoming too much. I was especially interested in the role the music played as a big fan of Nobuo Uematsu's work and was glad to learn a bit about that particular puzzle piece. However long it takes, please stick to the current way of working, it clearly makes for great video's!

Of course the gaps kind of suck for us first watching as they release, but I think it's worthwhile in the end for the people who get to watch the whole thing all together when it's done. I appreciate all the time and research put into these.
Dude don't even worry about the timing. Just like the context of the video, as they focused on quality over quantity, I'd rather wait a little longer and get a thorough comprehensive and highly entertaining and informative documentary than a slapped together rush job that omits tons of interesting facts and images. Especially with how many names in the old NES era were simply not allowed to get credit for their work, endeavors like this shine light on the countless contributors to the history and legacy of games and companies that in truth impacted and shaped our childhoods and lives greatly.
