I’ve been watching your videos for awhile now & you’ve really inspired to to stick to my natural hair journey. I can’t want till your videos blow up & I can say that I was there at under a thousand subscribers 🤪
Hi Kimberly! I can not thank you enough for commenting such amazing words ❤️ I’m so happy that my videos could have helped you out in ANYWAY and I love that I have help you decide to embrace your natural hair! Thanks for your support ❤️
Okay I just want to say thank you for the bit where you said that you dont need to feel guilty about straightening your hair once in a while. Its been a few months since I straightened my hair and I'm kinda wanting a change and to wear my bangs straight but I feel guilty or like I'll ruin all the progress my curls have made and also like there's a shame in the curly community when a girl wants to straighten her hair! But it's my hair and I like to change things up!
When people ask me why it takes me so long to do my hair.....people who have naturally smooth non poofy hair are lucky......I can NOT just go out without flat ironing unless I want to look like a LION......
when i tell you this worked better than ever, it solved all the problems i had, i also realized that my straightener wasnt hot enough then i got it to the perfect temperature. 11/10 THANK YOU SO MUCH MELL!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!! So many natural girls try to make you feel bad if you ever use heated electronics on your hair. This gave me confidence to feel good on the days that I mix it up. 😊
Finally someone with MY HAIR. I’ve watched so many hair videos trying to find someone with a similar hair type and I am so glad with one random search I got to YOU!! Thank you so much for this video ❤
I was looking for ways to straighten a hair without any heat and ended up with this. For once a beauty RUclipsr that I end up liking. It was a satisfying video to watch.
_It's Britney , bitch_ that’s what I said “ended up with this” I didn’t watch it for the main idea of it. It just looked interesting. And I couldn’t care less
You crack me up at the end, as I totally understand how hot it gets while blow drying and straightening curly hair. It would be so much easier if I'd learn to love my natural curl, but I'm 67 and still haven't learned to do so. I loved your story about using flat iron on wet hair when you were young! If you can only imagine, when I was growing up there were no such things as blow dryers or flat or curling irons. When I was about 10 I got desperate enough one morning that I used my dad's hair cream on my hair to get it to lay down.
I’m watching this to do my friends hair her mom never did her hair and her dad didn’t know or cared and her grandma doesn’t know how to straighten it right she got graduation pictures and I’m like girl I GOT YOU!!!! So I’m learning her hair type and shit to finally make her happy and her gorgeous hair could glow and shine 😫😫
I have the same aveda frizz control product.... and that stuff is LIFE. My hair is so frizzy here in florida and that mixed with my ceramic bristle brush. My hair is frizzless and smooth! Aveda products are so under rated 😭😭😭
Also when I started going to aveda salons.. it was the first time my hair ever felt and looked so healthy so I entrust is their products and what they say to the T. I have never stepped foot in another salon since I started going to aveda salons last year.
I appreciate your videos. So many people don’t know how to handle curly hair. The world needs these videos. I’m Dominican so I grew up getting my hair blow dried by my mom and at the salon. At a young age I myself learned how to blow dry in the same technique you use bc that’s how Dominicans do it (however I wouldn’t know all the technical terms like u obviously lol) the only thing I will suggest is that maybe that Dyson isn’t the best for blow drying straight bc I’ve used the Turbo professional blow dryers (usually come in red or black or both) you can get at the beauty supplies here in the Bronx and get a better outcome than you did with the blow dry. That way u may not even need to flat iron. Either way, thank you for educating us!
I’ve never been one to straighten my hair a lot. I’ve had both straight and wavy - curly hair and definitely preferred curly. Not just curly but big and curly. So much so that I started getting body waves when I was 12 and then spiral perms (eh, it was the 1980s - early 90s). At one point in my late 1980s - early 90s teen years I told a former Aveda stylist that my last perm was hanging on for dear life. He said, “No, honey! This is natural. I’d permed my way through puberty and hadn’t noticed that my waves - curls were coming back. I digressed for a moment but it’s relevant. When I did perm my hair I wanted it straight for a specific occasion maybe once or twice a year. At that point I still had my old crimping iron that came with interchangeable wave & straightening plates. It didn’t get hot enough to do anything! I had that problem with most flat irons until I spent a lot of money on a professional flat iron used by my salon. Now it is puny compared to some flat iron on drug store shelves. I am glad they come with heat controls today because it’s easy to do some major damage.
This video was seriously so helpful!! Im a native American/irish kid with HELLA CURLY HAIR. No one in my family could help me take care of it, so i had to learn from people who had hair like mine, via social media. And man oh man it helped a lot 😅
I’m not alone🙌 someone else relates to hating the weird crimps in the back when someone doesn’t straighten their hair properly❤️ i literally want to carry a battery charged straightener in my bag to help those poor souls
Im so glad I came across you! You are so entertaining😂 And also informative! I have neverrr been able to flat iron my hair..its so frustrating. When I go to a salon and they straighten it, it looks awesome! I loved the clips you did at the end. Awesome video👍
Just stumbled onto your channel today because today is the dreaded day I attempt to straighten my hair 😫. Thanks so much for all of the great info. I subscribed immediately once that towel dropped 😂. Your personality is wonderful. 💜 I'm "hair" for you!
i haven’t flatironed my hair in eons and since i lack the patience i’m letting my hairdresser do the job. But i enjoyed your pro demonstrations sooo much.
you're so pretty! i have wavy hair, and used to straighten it daily. it would be so damaged and every time i went to the hairdresser i would cut off like 3-4 inches otherwise it would look terrible. i now only apply heat on it like once or twice a week and its so much better. i don't use protein treatments on my hair though and don't have those fancy combs either lol so i'll look into that.
Did anyone else ever use the wet 2 straight straighter?! Now thinking back I can't believe I did that to my hair and thought it was okay to do cause everyone was using that straightener 😂
Love your videos! Please show us your hair moisturizing routine (how often, which kind of products you use, how long we should wait with the product on our hair, etc). Thank you!
Pooyie! Girl, that is too much work and patience. Could never get the back to look nice so I quit long ago. Glad you have the patience and energy. It looks good both curly and straight.
You're are amazing...I have same curly hair as you have and I also learned to straighten it myself. It is a hell of a job to do it, but it worth it. Seeing your video gave me some helpful ideas and thank God I was not doing it all wrong. Thanks a lot for this video. 😘
I know the struggle. I don't know how to blow dry my hair very well. I still do it but I also use the In-styler which is AWESOME! I use it for years and my hair doesn't get damaged. I like the way you wrap it with a bandana or silk scarf to go to sleep.
My sister flat irons her hair when its wet and does not listen when i tell her its better dry all i hear in the bathroom is ppppssssstttt and i cringe... One day hopefully she will listen
I have 3b/3c hair. I think the best advice is using a GOOD straightener and not being obsessed with it being bone straight. I use a CHI flat iron at 360 and pretty much only do one pass and however it turns out is what I keep. As long as I wrap my hair every night I don’t need to apply heat to my hair any more. And if you want some curls Bantu knots or finger curls overnight work great. If you wanna try a different heat protectant there’s a product called crack (Ik weird as hell) but it works amazingly and it’s one of the only products I’ve ever used that truly only needs a dime size. Remember having straight hair for a week isn’t worth heat damage ✌🏼
Dominique Andrews you might want to get yourself a loreal steampod. I bought it a year ago and I can just airdry my hair and then straigthen it. No need to blowdry (unless yo are in a rush). I could easliy last 7 days without touching it up. And no need to wrap your hair every night.
@@missesmada11 omg I do! My top doesn’t really curl the top of my hair has nice larger curls and the underneath is like kinky cork screw curls……I have hard water and no product works the same all the time 😞
I haven't straightened my hair in a year and a half. I'm planning on straightening it in like 2 weeks and I'm nervous! Thank you for this video it made me feel a lot better haha It's true, sometimes we just want some change! How often do you straighten your hair?
Umn do you remember the hair style Rhianna had for AMA 2013, that's how Dominican woman keep their hair flat. We call it Tubi. Maybe you can find a tutorial.
Oh my god.. I hate it when I starighten my hair and my bf is like, yeah but you're hair isn't straight?? I'm like yes it is now but bc of my hair type it is FRIZZY AF and it doesn't look flattering at all even after using anti-frizz oil or cream. It's always the best the day after i straightened my hair that the frizz no longer there and now I know why it looks better when I have it in a ponytail or in a bun. Im definitely trying this, thanks!
I don't even have curly hair. My ish is STICK straight naturally. I watched this video because I'm growing out a perm and I wanted to learn some tips(check!). But GURL, you are funny! AND fun to watch and not boring. Like I said I don't even have curly hair and I just watched like 10 of your videos.
Wow thank you so much for watching Sara !! I know u don’t have curly hair but hopefully u learned something that could be applied to your hair type ❤️❤️
I’m mixed with Greek Italian and Lebanese and I finally found someone with similar hair texture to me!!!! (Your sisters is more like mine) but you guys are so beautiful and I can watch all your hair videos and they apply to me♥️
@@salmamohamedabuzaid I burned my hair off when I was 12. That's what stops me now. I highly recommend using a lot of conditioner ( depending on the hair type you have) and brushing it with conditioner. Then I use a lot of hair product basically covering every strand ( my biggest mistake when I was younger was not using enough cause that's what hair products would say) . Currently I use shea moisture curl defining smoothie but no gels as those are too much for my hair. I only wash it once every 4-5 days. Ever since I started doing this a year ago, my hair has gotten so much stronger and I love it
Does anyone remember the hair straighteners that was sold that could be used while hair was wet? I wonder if they are still in the market. I will have to look into it.
I just found you searching for How To flat iron naturally curly hair (on white girls) with the least amount of damage. Knew by the thumbnail you'd be fun and funny. I learned SO MUCH! Thank you!
I've also heard one should never flat iron damp hair but Maxiglide has a flat iron that infuses STEAM as a strengthening technique to safeguard the strands from heat damage. What is the difference?
Madison Lewe that’s actually the REASON I straightened it for so long (late 20s and up to about 36 when I got sick and it was a tumbleweed of surgeries, when all blowouts/flatiron stopped abruptly bc a) it was so long and tiresome, and b) why bother if I’m not going anywhere?). My straight hair would last all workweek which was great as someone who constantly feels rushed and can’t “take my time” in the mornings. It’s honestly the one thing I miss most about straightening! But am LOVING all the new volume as it slowly makes its way to my roots! ♥️
Lmao 😂love your personality the ending was hilarious. Your hair looks great both ways. But yes girl I feel it I do feel like a different person when straighten my hair. Lol keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Thanks for giving me tips, because I have curly hair once and I wanted to hair straightening right. The sad part is that my hair looked frizzy from straightening it.
You crack me up!! I love watching your videos! I love the info you give for us natural curly hair ladies! I have a question for you! So my daughter is 11 and she has just recently started hating her beautiful natural curly locks and it makes me so sad bc they are beautiful tight lil ringlets and she hates them. I tell her embrace those beautiful curls God has blessed us with and women pay a ton of money to have curls like us and she is just like no way mom! So she insists on straightening her hair every time. So we wash it like twice a week sometimes once a week and then blow dry and straighten it and her poor hair just looks so dry like its screaming for hydration!!! I have begged her lets try your hair curly today and when we do try it curly, at the top of her head theirs like lil hairs sticking up and its frizzy and she just hates it! I wanted to see if there are products you can recommend to me - good shampoo and conditioner, leave in treatments, hair masks, should i use moose or gel for when we do curly hair days on her and if so which is a good brand to use? I have been googling for weeks trying to figure out how to get her hair healthy again and I have been watching videos (a lot of yours) and I just get like system overload with all this info and I'm just like okay where do I start first and which answer is the right answer! Every time I watch your videos I can tell you know what you are talking about so I was hoping you could please help us!
My curly girl cousin referred me to watch your videos and girl!! I have thanked her for it! Im so happy I was able to find your channel; you are hilarious, informative and girl, you just keep real! Ive been trying to catch up and binge watch all your videos! You have one additional subscriber! Thanks for your videos Mel!
No one tell that basic things, I have extremely dry hair . After straightening these looks so unnatural as like after the blow dryer u have? I saw lots of videos bt getting no answers for my problem bt after seeing ur thus video I think I will get smoother straight hair tqs a lot 😍😍😍😍😍 congrats for one more subscriber and I am just happy by subscribing u....
I just straight my hair for the first time over a year and 3 months, I feel so guilty but I was “tired” of my curls. I feel like a bad curly girl for saying this, isn’t hair suppose to be fun?🥺
I don’t why, but your look strongly reminded me of Scarlett Johansson in the movie Lucy throughout this video. I think it’s the eyes. Anyway, can you do something about rice water for curly hair and hair growth? When to use it, how often to use it, the proper way of using it, and stuff like that.
Do you know how girls with curly hair can keep it straight for so long? The day after straightening my hair it gets soo itchy I feel like I have to wash it. Not only that but the next day it starts to curl at the roots 🙃 I wish it would last longer straight! Do you have any tips??
I don't have an answer for the itchy roots, but you should look into wrapping your hair (I learned this from the many black salons I frequent through my curl defying journey growing up). It makes my straightened curls even sleeker on the 2nd-5th day. Literally fluff it out in the morning and go.
Yes, what Seeta said. I will oil the ends at night and wrap or braid it. In the morning I will use some dry shampoo to help fluff it back up so it's not all flat and stiff
Some people naturally have the crimped backing, just so ya know. Like my hair is straight but the under and back Layers are wavy. I’ve always hated that it looks unfinished but I kinda got over it because mamas gotta wash and go 😂
Lol I would flat iron my hair while it was soaking wet and it would make that same sound a lot of steam would be up the air I gotta admit I damaged my hair over da summer and I still strain it but I'm scared of losing my hair now 😭😂lol she's right don't do this
Hey! Thank you for this video, I really need help in straightening my hair properly lmao. But my problem is that after straightening it, it curls back up in like an hour and by the end of the day I'm back to having my curly (and slightly frizzy) hair. I think it's mainly bc of sweat since I live in a hot but humid country, but I want to be able to preserve my straight hair for at least a few days. How do I avoid this? What products can I use and what suits for you? Have y'all had this problem?
Seconding this. Same issue for me but I live in a cold, wet environment. If I straighten my hair it will last a matter of moments in drizzle, let alone rain. It will never make it even part of the way through the night in sweaty hot bar or club.
I’m curious as well. I feel like there’s no real way of stopping this, because as long as we have curly hair it’s going to look for moisture anywhere. I straightened my hair for the first time this summer, walked outside (it was 40 degrees Celsius with humidex), and it was instantly wavy the second I crossed the threshold to outdoors 🤦🏻♀️

@@franchescamayialmonte1303 didn't see it neither have I heard of it. But I'll be sure to look it up, THANKS!!!
Ok, its official, you're my favourite!!! Idk if you're a cosmetologist or not, but you're so smart! Thank you for all the help and info!
Girl, I love your humor!
this is the first video i have seen from you in your attitude gives me great vibes!!
Great vid! How do you keep straightened hair fresh when you workout daily?
I’m mixed with Greek Italian and Lebanese and I finally found someone with similar hair texture to me!!!! (Your sisters is more like mine) but you guys are so beautiful and I can watch all your hair videos and they apply to me♥️
Girl I'm old enough to remember ironing my hair..no towel, clothes iron! Way before straighteners!
I have not straightened my hair in more than a year. Planning to do it next week and have been worried, so I am glad for that tidbit at the end.
you can do it sis!! it’ll look great
U DIDN'T STRAIGHTEN IT IN MORE THAN A YEAR!
HOW DO U LIVE!
I DO IT EVERYDAY!
@@salmamohamedabuzaid after 22 years I actually prefer my curly hair now!!! All a combo of right products etc
@@40000ss i hate my heir and i am only 11 It's literally so fizzy, long and so curly and i can't even brush it myself i need my mom to help me
@@salmamohamedabuzaid I burned my hair off when I was 12.
Thank you!
Actually I loved your hair look all through the process and the final result just wow !!
It made me feel better when I saw your hair after blow dry but before flat iron...that is the way mine looks!
EVIL BRUSHES EVILLLLL 😂 I screamed that when I saw you pull out the two brushes at the beginning
Thank you for this video, after 3 years of just having my hair curly I’m looking to straighten it 😄🙌🏼.
Amy Cranfield you hair is fantastic!
“That’s why we straighten our hair, right? So we can see how much growth we have.” That’s pretty much the only reason I straighten my hair.
I've also heard one should never flat iron damp hair but Maxiglide has a flat iron that infuses STEAM as a strengthening technique to safeguard the strands from heat damage. What is the difference?
People who can make their straight hair last a week are my heroes.
South african African Cape town hairstylists are the best in makin ur hair last . Mine never shrunk when i used to blowdry it
you have a video for everything i love you 😩
Lmao 😂love your personality the ending was hilarious. Your hair looks great both ways. But yes girl I feel it I do feel like a different person when straighten my hair. Lol keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Thank you so much 🙃 and u know I will! Comments like these are what inspire me to post every Tuesday ❤️ thanks for the love
thank you. i appreciate you didn't apply a heat protector for each section because you already prepped your hair. thanks for the tip
you look like 90's Britney Spears with straight hair omg 😍💕
Omg that’s GENIUS that criss cross haha!
Nice 👍 very nice. Thanks for the tip on the “night wrap”...awesome!! A must try!
Thanks for giving me tips, because I have curly hair once and I wanted to hair straightening right. The sad part is that my hair looked frizzy from straightening it.
i would of loved if she gotten her roots smoother it would bring down that volume alot but maybe she loves her hair voluminous
When i was 13 i used to use water as heat protection spray.... i used to wet all my hair sections again and again and fry it
pure gold. I used to brush and straighten my hair the last day before shower - after having curly hair gel on the hair for 2 days lol
Can you do a video on how to straighten your hair with not heat for curly hair
I just straight my hair for the first time over a year and 3 months, I feel so guilty but I was “tired” of my curls. I feel like a bad curly girl for saying this, isn’t hair suppose to be fun?🥺
How to moisturize my hair without wetting it? I'm worried that my hair gets extremely dry and brittle after having it straight for weeks at a time.
I don’t why, but your look strongly reminded me of Scarlett Johansson in the movie Lucy throughout this video. I think it’s the eyes. Anyway, can you do something about rice water for curly hair and hair growth? When to use it, how often to use it, the proper way of using it, and stuff like that.
this is the only video that has actually helped
Omg you’re so funny love it ! Definitely subbed!
how long does this take you?
Some people naturally have the crimped backing, just so ya know. Like my hair is straight but the under and back
Layers are wavy. I’ve always hated that it looks unfinished but I kinda got over it because mamas gotta wash and go 😂
Thank you so much for all of your videos, you are my favourite hair channel for curly hair!!!
NO THANK YOU! For watching, enjoying and going out of your way to comment ❤️ means a lot
OMG I USED TO FLAT IRON MY HAIR SOAKING WET DURING HIGHSCHOOL TOO LMFAO
Lol I would flat iron my hair while it was soaking wet and it would make that same sound a lot of steam would be up the air I gotta admit I damaged my hair over da summer and I still strain it but I'm scared of losing my hair now 😭😂lol she's right don't do this
Mell, Have you ever tried the Dominican "roller set + blow out" method? It prevents extreme heat damage. I love your videos!
