this video is really helpful! i found a short in my board by plugging in both the motherboard and daughterboards together, then running 5V usb. you can use a thermal imaging camera or use your fingers to find where it gets hot. on my controller, the board which houses the d-pad buttons has a short, somewhere in the U3 chip. hope this helps!

Mine broke a year ago same issue (nut turning on) after i verrified every component and all was fine and today a year later i found that the firmware could go bad on these, found a good usb cable, conect it to the pc a foud out that all it needed was an update and now is working again😮 😂😂😂😂
Yes as long as the controller board is the same revision, like they have original xbox one controller and one from xbox one s make sure you don't mix both
