The Tempo sundress is gorgeous and it’s stunning on you. That bodice fit is perfection. Your paper bag shorts are a hit. They don’t shorten your torso at all. Nice makes.
I bought the Itch to Stitch Belize shorts in Summer 2021 on Whitney's recommendation, but I didn't get around to sewing my first pair until Summer 2022. I sewed up 2 pair last year and neither pair fits this year. I have lots of other shorts patterns in my stash, but I agree the Belize is a versatile pattern and it has been my go-to this season. The flat front waistband with elastic on the back makes fitting easy and forgiving for my perimenopausal weight fluctuations. Depending on the fabric, it can look dressy or casual. I found out that I only need a yard of fabric (55" wide) for my size (14) have made up several pairs with various 1 yard remnants I had lying around. I have made them up in light weight denim, stretch twill, linen and even lengthened the legs for a flowy pair of pants in a drapey rayon linen blend. Currently, I have a pair in JoAnn white hopsack linen on my machine. It's another remnant that I have had for several years. This fabric is the thickest I've used and I'm curious how it will work.
I love your set up display with all the items hanging. You sure had a productive sewing month with some beautiful Summer colors. I am looking forward to your buttonhole video.
Your dresses are so pretty!! Well, all of your makes are!! I would love to come to your meet and greet, but I’ll be out of town that week!! Have fun and keep us posted about where you’re going to be!!🤗
Your channel is a huge inspiration for me. I just wanted to thank you for reminding us that you are a very fast sewist. It’s taken me roughly a year to realize that (through NO fault of your own) I was feeling a little less, as you kindly put it, for sewing slowly. This year I’m enjoying the process as much as the end product. Your reminder to us is so kind. ❤
Love all your makes and the colors for each item are perfect for each piece. I compare my sewing speed right now to a snail with a backpack loaded with books on his back. I’m ok with that because my first pair pants to go out vacation are 95% finished and vacation isn’t until October. Seriously though I learned a lot sewing these pair of pants. I’m excited to start the next pair.
All lovely makes. A very satisfying haul for you. On another note I like the arrangement of the display unit. It covers up the empty Power point that stood out so much. I almost found it distracting.
I love the idea of a meet and greet! I timed it out and from the East Coast to Indiana.... it was 12 hours away lol. Not happening right now but would love to meet you ! The coral Carlyle top you're wearing is *beautiful* on you !
It would be so great if there was a zoom to watch the presentation..... ohh you are doing it as a course goong forward fingers crossed. . What a lovely capsule wardrobe.
I did fail to mention how lovely you look in that "Itch to Stitch" "Tustin" dress!! I have the pattern, and cannot wait until I am able to sew-I'm hoping even though I am the opposite of you (I am a "pear"), and have a 12" difference between my hips and waist that it will still look ok on me!! Fingers crossed!! I bet your mom would look fabulous in it, as well!! Thank you for all you do, and I am going to call around and see if any of our bigger fabric shops would be interested in hosting an event with you and Jenni(sp)-I always forget the spelling of her name! Sorry... Have a wonderful day with your family!! :+)
I totally agree with you about wearing knit dresses on road trips. They are more comfortable than anything in woven fabric with a crotch. I feel so good to look good at rest stops and when I arrive. It may be my imagination, but I also think the perception of wearing a dress being ladylike actually leads to better customer service. 😊
I would so be willing to head to Kansas City if you ever decide to use your folks as a base for a traveling class. 😊 How about instead of you supplying the fabric and notions for a traveling class, how about putting together a needs/order list of what fabric/notions are needed with maybe some shopping links? Kind of like a back to school supplies list. My local JoAnn has some classroom space, but choices of garment fabric can be very limiting depending on season.
Buttonholes are a timely subject for me. Today I utterly failed to complete a buttonhole on a denim ITS Takoro Skirt. So frustrating! My Bernina 790+ wasn't having any of it and I unpicked it twice. Love your Tempo and will look up your Minerva post.
What an inspirational collection of makes, Whitney! One important truth I’ve learned from watching your channel is that, yes, you are a very fast sewist! I also have learned that if you stick with the Indie pattern companies which you’ve perfected your personal “fit” from (for me it is Love Notions, Cashmerette, and Itch to Stitch) and follow your lead to batch cut, you can speed up the process a bit. I can’t help it but I love to venture out from time to time to try something new or more challenging…sometimes that involves one of the Big 4 patterns… and then I could spend weeks making a garment! I’m in love with that Tempo sundress! I would not have guessed it was a Rayon Challis Twill! Here I go, off the the UK in cyberspace, to buy more fabric! 😊
I love it! A few weeks ago I watched a few "vintage Whitney" videos (not that youtube makes it easy to pull them up). They are so nostalgic for me because I started watching you around the time we made a big move for my husband's work in 2018. Anyway, you were such a pro from the beginning. But it's super weird to watch you talk about liking to wear light gray! 😂
Everything looks beautiful, and so well coordinated! I love it all! Thanks for sharing about the Belize shorts. I am convinced to give them a try. I just finished Simplicity 1887 and they were so good on me. It sounds like the Belize will be similar with the back elastic. I am excited!
Loving your new Tempo dress Whitney! The I2S Belize shorts are in my tried and true collection along with the Allegros by LN. I especially like the Belize in stretch twill. Your linen ones look so comfy I think I need to try them in linen😊
Loving the tempo sundress. The fit is perfect. Wishing you a great meet and greet night. Wishing I could be there, but it’s a little far to travel from Australia😅
Beautiful work as always. Wish I could join you for the meet and greet, but I’ll be on the train to NYC for the American Sewing Guild’s conference. Have a great time. I may have to see if we could get you to come my way next year?!? I purchased the itch to stitch Santorini Tank and have made two of them…. Love the pattern and it is such a clean finish in the end.
Wow you accomplished a lot Whitney. Lovely makes and I absolutely love the Itch to Stitch green shorts on you. Question, you mentioned you used Ponte for your Tidal dresses...do you think Viscose Jersey from Minerva would work well or pull down too much?
I think the viscose jersey from Minerva would be lovely on the Tidal! You may want to dry it when you wash it to help pull it back into shape (I do this on my Ponte ones as well), but I think it would wear beautifully!
I've bought some cotton/bamboo jersey that I would like to use for the Tidal dress. Do you think it will be ok, or should I look for something a bit heavier?
All your makes are amazing on you. I need to make shorts and have the Belize pattern, but my hip size now falls beyond the max size. Do you know whether there are plans to release this pattern in the fuller size range that newer patterns have? Any tips on adding on a couple of inches beyond a pattern size? I have the Brampton pattern as well - would you suggest doing a sort of mashup to get the Belize in a larger size?
I'm not sure if she plans to release the Belize in the full size range or not. However, she has expanded some of the older patterns. I would reach out and ask her. It might be that she just needs to know that there is an interest in that being expanded!
The denim shorts are awesome! Did you have any trouble making the buttonhole. I have a Bernina 570, and I just could not get the buttonholes to work on the waistband. I think it is because of uneven surface of seam allowance. Just curious if you had any issues.
I didn't have any issues on these pairs, but this is a lighter weight denim - probably the lightest I would use for this pattern. That being said, I hammer the living daylights (with a mallet) out of all my seams and my waistband before attempting the buttonhole. This compresses the layers of thickness and moves through the machine so much easier!
I love all your June makes. I’m trying to transition from wearing all knit tops to wearing a combination of knit & woven tops & from always wearing some type of jeans to wearing other fabrics like linen for pants. I like the look but the ironing, Whitney, the ironing! 😂 My linen is wrinkling A Lot more than yours. Is there a type of linen that you find wrinkles a bit less? Will you have to iron the sundress?
For my linen, I just embrace the rumple. That being said, I wash all of my clothes on cold in the washing machine and then air dry them. I'll then pop my linen pieces into the dryer for a few minutes to release any major creases. Sometimes I still have to hit them with an iron, but I don't worry about the rumple. That's one of the reasons I love linen! With the sundress (cotton). I'll do the same. However, usually with the gathered/tiered skirts, the fullness eliminates the need for ironing. I iron VERY infrequently.
Thanks for answering my question. I enjoy watching your channel. You do a great job of presenting your ideas which are so relevant and practical. Great job!
Love all the makes, especially the Tempo dress. Is the cotton sateen slippery to sew with? I'm so bummed that I can't attend The Sewing Academy show. If it was a different day or in the early afternoon I'd be okay. Maybe next time.
The sateen isn't slippery at all. The sateen is just a smooth finish on the right side of the fabric. It gives it a bit of a sheen, but because it's cotton, it's still grippy.
I actually have an inseam I prefer on my leg that has less to do with proportion and more to do with the thigh crawl. I find that, on my leg, a 4" - 5" inseam is long enough that the fullest part of my thigh isn't grabbing the hem when I walk 😂.
The gorgeous colours of the makes in this video really make you pop!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for these videos, they make me feel calm and happy when I watch you.
Glad you like them!
The blue dress is stunning ! Love it. Well done!!
Thank you so much!
Love “old school “😊
Thank you!
Everything is so super cute! Love the orange slides! Great job on all the pieces!
Thank you so much!!

Gorgeous Minerva print sundress….you look beautiful!😊
😊 thank you
Love all your makes, especially the Love Notions sundress! You look fabulous in it! Have a fun sewing weekend, I plan on getting some sewing in too.
Yay! Thank you!
That athletic dress looks so dang cute on you! A great silhouette!
Thank you so much!
Love those shorts! So cute on you and the colors are happy!
Thank you!
Awesome makes.
Thank you!
Also such flattering shorts. I’m going to have to try those in linen!
Thank you!

How fun!!! The meet-and-greets are a great idea.

You can do it! Go at your pace and enjoy yourself!
Just finished a Tempo as well. In a rayon crepe so perfect for a July trip to Florida.
Perfect!
The sun dress looks so good on you. I would love that type with sleeves. I hate showing my arms any more.
Thank you so much!

I'm so glad you're enjoying the new set up!
Love, love the Tempo dress on you. The print is gorgeous too. I'll have to look into that Sateen fabric. It's gorgeous.
Thank you so much!
Love these videos Whitney. Plus I have to say what a nice person you are, with your reassurance to all us slower sewers.
Thank you for the kind words!
Love your makes!! Visiting Kansas City now. Liking the area. Missouri side.
Thank you--Enjoy KC!
I love the idea of a meet and greet! I timed it out and from the East Coast to Indiana.... it was 12 hours away lol. Not happening right now but would love to meet you ! The coral Carlyle top you're wearing is *beautiful* on you !

I think the Tustin would be perfect on a "pear" shape! The waist shaping is beautiful on so many figures! You also spelled Jenni's name correctly!
Love the Tempo Sundress!! I just printed out the bodice so I could test it. I have big plans to add a multi-tiered skirt to it 😁
Wonderful!

I’m coming to the Bloomington event (I live here) I am looking forward to meeting you too!
Great! I can't wait to meet you!
I love the itch to stitch paper bag shorts! I also adore that tempo dress! In fact I just made two of them! One for me and one for my daughter.
It's a pretty great dress!

I really like Plans, Look Book and Sew The Look videos!
I'm glad you enjoyed!
It amazes me how fast you sew all your beautiful clothes!
I'm lucky to have this amazing job to share my love of sewing with all of you!
Love all your makes and it feels like Whitney is back☺️.
Thank you!
I love the paper bag shorts on you. Up until now I’ve never thought they were flattering but I was wrong…..
It's about finding the right fit for the body!
Loving all your makes. The dress looks so breezy and comfortable!
Thank you!
Your Tempo Sundress is gorgeous on you! I too love the Belize shorts pattern. They're my favorite!
Thank you! Those shorts are amazing!
Nice makes! I love the bright colors of your shorts. Not only do I love Ava’s Dawn shorts but her hair color is gorgeous on her!
Thank you! I'll pass those kind words onto her.

I completely agree with this! The Tempo was in a cotton sateen, however.
Whitney, is your screen a DIY? I love how you have all the gadgets on it!
I ordered it off Wayfair. I'm loving it!
Love it all. That sundress 😊
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
I love the Greenstyle dress. I have the pattern, just have to make this up
It's a good one!
I really enjoyed the video and the wonderful makes. I feel ready for the weekend now! 🎉
Have a great weekend!

Haha! Light gray isn't a big part of my closet anymore!
Gorgeous makes as always Whitney. I love your tempo dress. I plan to make one for my summer.
It's a good one. I hope you enjoy it!

When you batch sew, change thread a lot? Or 1 color for everything?
I change thread for my sewing machine, but tend to sew with the same serger thread so I don't have to change the serger as often.
I've bought some cotton/bamboo jersey that I would like to use for the Tidal dress. Do you think it will be ok, or should I look for something a bit heavier?
I think that would be just fine! My first Tidal dress was a cotton/spandex jersey and it was great!

Is the Brussels Washer Linen suitable for linen pants?
I would say that it's great for looser fitting pants. It might be a bit light for pants that are fitted in the hip/bum.
