For the Aaron Curry exhibit I would have to add Joan Miro as one of his influencers. Some appear almost identical except for the graffiti. Thank you Mary Lynn for your thoughtful and professional presentations.
Thanks Mary Lynn, enjoyed that, especially the extensive Soulages show. Like you my faves were those from the 60s. Also liked the Emma McIntyre works. She's a fellow New Zealander but I hadn't heard of her.
So I've just had a look at the Armitage exhibition, Bermondsey that you've linked. Think that deserves a Wow. There is one painting with a kind of red river running through. An exhibition alongside Peter Doig would be a thing maybe!
That's a space very much to my taste.
Fabulous tour. I would have loved to see the piece that all we could see what its backside and his signature. What was on the face of it? Why was it hung in this way?
Really enjoyed the Aaron Curry work. Tend to agree with you about the signatures but I'm sure he intentionally wanted to make it a distraction and not to think of them in all the references you mentioned.

Abstract art is truly great, and rare.
Without going particularly big on Michael Armitage before the painterliness in the service of figuration stood out for me: one painting among so many too! Some seductive abstracts from Soulages and seductive, beautiful, spaces too.
That must have been an enjoyable walkabout and thanks for inviting us along.

Thank you so much Mary Lynn. It is great to see what’s happening in the gallery scene and I watch you often to inspire my artwork. I think some viewers need to remember that art is about breaking rules, creating new art forms and directions. New movements would not have happened if not for the brave souls forging new paths. It’s all about expanding our view of beauty, aesthetics, concepts, etc. Although not all of the art may appeal personally, it’s important to keep an open mind. Love your voice and videos….

I noticed other peoples faces weren't blurred in recent videos. I hope that continues. I found the blurred faces distracting and it seemed a bit dehumanizing. Your videos are so beautifully photographed and produced by the way.

When you were walking through the gallery that featured the black canvas variations by the French artist, I noticed that you were wearing all black (at least from the view courtesy of my mobile). You shoes are also black and seem disproportionately large compared to the rest of you. That compelled my imagination to throw a large black veil over your head... and then... you could stand motionless for minutes or hours in that gallery - making an additional contribution as a sculptural work in progress..

I have always personally believed that leaving the artists creative intent in silence. Yes, when I create works I often do so with clear intent, especially in regards to the symbolic aspects of my work, but I prefer to leave the interpretation to the viewer which can be quite different due to their personal perspective. I do appreciate your commentary,.however but sometimes find these artistic statements restrictive because there are always perceptual variants.
I often wonder how much of this art gets sold because I couldn't have some of this in my living room. (i.e. 3:50)
In your opinion, what determines the actual worth of the art? Is it the galleries in which they are displayed…the demand…the powers that be?
I do try to be open- minded. Sometimes it’s difficult when I see a totally black canvas.
Robert Ryman used the image of the crane in his work in the 80's? I did not know that, or that there were any figurative images in his work at all. I do know that Sigmar Polke did though.
It was a photograph of a crane that he collages in. If you google “robert rauschenberg crane” you can see a few of them

We need a movement. The reason work from over 35 years ago is so coveted is because it's great work. Not because it's older work. Music is the same. Basquiat, to me, was really the end of it. No one on that level or even close has come along since. I've said it before, art is now either merchandise or gimmick. Different doesn't mean good.

The original comic book artist that Lichtenstein stole from was Hy Eisman. Let's make sure we give credit where it is do. Lichtenstein was a thief. I have no respect for him nor the jokesters that piggy off his back. Ridiculous to give that guy credit for being an artist! He didn't create the originals nor come up with the style of drawing. Absolutely absurd!

My reaction to the works shown is that they are talentless, meaningless junk, and they bring to mind the old saying that a fool and his money are soon parted.
why didn't you ask that woman, who was always in the shot, to leave the scene?
I mean we are trying to see the exhibition and she is always flickering in front of the camera, this is not cool.
Please stop zooming in on paintings. When you ate in a gallery do you just see a glimpse of whole painting then see chopped up segments
of? That people have this ever zooming camera makes a lot of people nauseous. I can't stand the camera work. Ruins viewer enjoyment.

I really love your videos. I am an artist Santa Fe NM. Can’t always afford to travel and see what’s happening. You do a great job of showing and talking about the work without being overbearing with your opinion. You should come here on vacation and do a video. Apparently we are #2 or 3 in the art market world.
