This is an absolutely fantastic bottle for anyone trying to keep a home cocktail bar stocked. Especially if you are trying to do it with limited space for bottles and/or a tighter budget. Rock solid bourbon that doesn't break the bank and it's hard to think of a drink that calls for bourbon out there in the cocktail zeitgeist that it doesn't work very well in at absolute worst. Easy recommendation for a home bar buy!
I really love this format. I was pausing before you'd relay your notes and jot down what i had. We were near identical on the nose and palate so it's just cool to see how people experience the same, or different, things when enjoying a glass. Cheers!
Knob Creek mash bill: 75 percent corn, 13 percent rye and 12 percent malted barley. (same as Jim Beam's) Old Grand-Dad has a mash bill of 63 percent corn, 27 percent rye and 10 percent malted barley. All distilled at the Jim Beam Plant in Clermont, Kentucky. I would have a hard time telling them apart if trying them separately.
Interesting. KC new 9 year is the other bourbon I drink most often. I get brighter fruit and a little more nut on KC. I prefer, but 34 on sale and often 45! So not as cheap. Cheers!
I find that a lot of bourbons kick off sweet and then turns spicy, but this one somehow manages to come in spicy and then turn sweet. A little bewildering but enjoyable all the same.
Great review! This used to be on my shelf at all times and then I found OGD 114. I didn't really think I needed to have both on my shelf so I just switched to the 114. But this is really good too. Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Yeah, well fortunately OGD114 is available here, $20 for the 750ml size, right next to the OGD Bonded at $21 for 750ml. Guess which one I buy? :-)
@@WhiskyNeighbour The other "great value" here is Evan Williams 100 proof BiB, the 1.75L is only $23 which makes the equivalent of a 750 ML bottle for just under $10. I always have that one in stock also. I know availability AND pricing vary quite a lot from state to state.
Such a fantastic bottle! I agree, Makes an amazing old fashioned. I had no idea it was a jim beam product and it was basil hayden on it. very cool! Great video.
Just polished my bottle a couple weeks ago. This was great stuff and not expensive, suitable as a sipper or great foundation for an old fashioned. Cheers!
Thanks Jon, as always I enjoy your positive cheerful attitude and fair reviews. Yes, more reviews on affordable whisky's that you can actually find. Lately the BIB OGD and BIB Old Forester have been the best bang for the money I have found in my market. Cheers!
I wish the BIB OF was a better value here. I enjoy that one, but for some reason it cost a lot more here. Thanks for the encouragement, and I hope to keep finding some affordable drams worth sharing. Cheers!
Hi! Long time since I watched one of your videos and I’ve missed them. You do a great job of explaining what flavors comes thru. Hope all is well with you and yours. I plan on picking up a bottle of this to try soon.
In Ontario that would be on par with Alberta Premium. Wisers and a bottle shelf blended scotch. I grabbed a bottle on a order from Alberta and wow was a great whisky at that price point. My next order will have a few more of these on it. Great pour right after work when you don't want to think.
Two reviews in one day! Interestingly, I've only started seeing OGD BiB locally last year. Previously only had the 114. When I went to pay for my first BiB bottle, the clerk told me that I could get 114 for cheaper, but I insisted on the BiB (I think it was a 1L bottle) as I'd never had it before. I was the second customer that morning making the same decision. Lucky for me, we see both bottles regularly now.
I have only had the 114 sample you sent me, but memory suggests I enjoyed that more than the BiB. Still, nothing wrong with this bottle for me! Cheers!
I’ve been drinking bourbon for years and always skipped over this today I bought a bottle I just drank ton of old grandad 114 because old grandad bb got terrible reviews it beats all the prohibition 1920 tin cup From Colorado Elijah Craig fool proof old grandad and I’m 71 years old hard daily drinker is gonna be my go too day drinking buddy it’s just beautiful I love the tobacco taste it’s mild Actually past the tobacco then it just has.a wonderful taste on it’s own nothing I’ve ever tasted before like tasting pussey for the first time when you just got the car. I could just sit here tonight and drink this whole bottle but I have no one her to share it with but you I tube fellas make pretty good surrogates
Totally agree Jon, this is my go to bourbon and one that I can enjoy without thinking. Just about to finish off a bottle. Next up will be Old Tub. Will you be reviewing the Red Letter and Crown Royal Winter Wheat that are in the background? I have had my eye on Red Letter for a while. Love your reviews, your positive attitude and your passion for whisky. Plus whatever you recommend I seem to always enjoy too. Keep it up!
Awesome you enjoy this one too, and that we often agree. I will be reviewing those Big Canadians, but likely a few weeks out I think. Thanks for the encouragement, I hope I can keep sharing my passion. Drop in and let me know what you think of Old Tub with you crack it. Cheers!
Maybe it's just me, but OGD BIB is greater in a cocktail than neat. There's just something that seems to be missing. But maybe that's cuz I'm comparing it to the 114.
I have only had the 114 as a sample. I did enjoy it more. This makes a great cocktail and it's not a high class neat sipper at all. But I like the flavours and can forgive it's rough edges at this price! Cheers!

Good insight. This continues to be a great, affordable expression for me.
You can’t find a better tasting bourbon

Totally agree. Just got Whiskey!
That's my Bourbon. Yes I am blue collar but I like it. I get honey, orange spice, crackerjack. The rye peppery backend isn't for everyone .
I come back to this one often. Solid pour for me.

This, WT101 & OF100 are the working man’s bourbons
Definitely good drams!
OGD BiB is a good, solid, budget bourbon!
Indeed!
Can't find this in sw Ontario but grabbed a bottle in port Huron. Cracked it last night and was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoy this.
Glad you found, and can enjoy it too. Not terribly complex, but tasty
@@WhiskyNeighbour I am new to appreciating bourbon and whisky. But I do like sweet whisky. Forty Creek is my goto but trying to branch out.

"If you're new to bourbon, it's not gonna be the first one I pour for you." Agreed. Back to Evan Williams BIB I go.

Nice detailed review of an under appreciated higher rye bourbon
Thanks. It's a favourite of mine for it's price range. Cheers!
This and OGD 114 give me a peanut brittle finish. Love them, great review.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I enjoy peanut brittle notes in whiskey :)
This whiskey is solid as a rock. Great review my friend.
Agreed! Good. Affordable. Versatile.
I wanna hear about that bakers SB back there on the shelf, that’s even better than old granddad

OGB BiB or Basil Hayden’s in your opinion ? (I think OGD could be a better value for the price especially with the much higher ABV) ;-)
For my palate, I prefer OGD. Also, a lot less expensive as you say. Cheers!

Old Tub is almost twice the price here, so yes. For a value dram, I like this more.
I most definitely do however every.Body has their own different tastes in women
That's why I like OLD GOAT 😉
