I'm very happy to see Volquartsen picked up the rifle. I bought the PWS verison back in 2015 and have to admit most of my bolt action .22s have turn into safe queens. Very happy with it and its a great suppressor host! Volquartsen advised that the biggest changes were the firing pin, firing pin spring and extractor. They sell these parts as an upgrade kit. (Part number VCB-FE) BTW, nice groups and thanks for shining a light on what I think is a great rifle!
The toggle action has been used for a while on 22 biathalon rifles, very fast and ergonomic. I have a Russian 22 target rifle I bought for about $450 before the import ban that has a carbon fiber barrel and it is about that accurate with a scope.
That action looks similar to my Browning T Bolt’s action. Smooth, fast and accurate. There is a reason that Olympic competition rifles use a similar design.
22plinkster You should consider doing some ammo reviews. Take a consistent rifle like this and chrono some of the CCI's vs Federal's etc, along with accuracy tests. That would be interesting to me and probably several other folks.
CCI standard velocity shoot better out to 100 for me than Federals. Odd, as I would have thought they'd be similar but better quality on the federal match. Mini-mags outshot the match ammo for me. Sadly my 597 decided it likes the $20/box ELEY better than anything else. Shoots half the group size of any other match ammo I've tried, and is amazingly accurate out to 200 yards.
I think that bolt action is super. Remind's me of the Blaser rifles and of course, the Swiss K-31's too. That is super neat on this .22 rifle. I think THIS is 'much more better good' too!!!
LOL I think a squirrl's eye is about 1 click with a 1/4 MOA scope at 100 yards, 2 at 50, and 5 at 25 yards. If you're using a scope with MIL adjustments, you're gonna have to do your own math
I like it,just think it was BrowninG that invented that action. The Browning Acera was once offered by Browning until about 6 or 7 years ago,it had this very same action, but was chamber in .30-06 and .300 Winchester Magnum.
Thanks for the video. Mine is supposed to be shipping out next week. Scott V. told me they've been hitting consistent .375" 10-shot groups at 50 yards with everyday plinking ammunition. They are experimenting with other barrels, but I stayed with the carbon fiber lightweight barrel since that's what they'd been testing with since September. I got their laminated lightweight silhouette stock on mine. Incredibly balanced and ergonomic. This is going to be my competition smallbore silhouette rifle. I can't wait for it to arrive!
@@bhief473 Well that old comment was from three years ago and they were less expensive at the time. I believe now they are around $1400-1500 for a similar configuration. Phenomenal rifle.
-- Out of all the firearms I owned and used for work. The purity of firing a .22lr bolt, is my favorite to shoot. I see the benefits of this action. Think I will pick up this rifle. But the traditional bolts. Every shot is a brand new story.
1-1/4 at 100 is about all I could squeeze out of my 10-22 100 dollar ER Shaw 16 inch bull barrel magpul stock DIY trigger job.I still love my Ruger but now I shoot a Bergara B14R it shoots consistently 3/4 inch and 1/2 inch when the stars align.
I have the original Summit T3 receiver from PWS. It has a 18" fluted Fedderson bull barrel installed in a MagPul stock. Trigger is a single stage Kidd set at 2lbs. Nice that Volquartsen picked up the T3 from PWS when they stopped production of them. It was always a hard to get item from PWS, as they only manufactured them every so often. I also have a Sparrow on mine.
I got to handle a Summit and really love the way it works. I have a receiver on order for a build with a lightweight stock and lightweight 1:9 twist barrel to give me the quietest operation and best accuracy with Aguila's 60 grain Sniper Subsonic.
I know there are sponsor obligations, but could we ever see what the accuracy is with Lapua or Eley? I've found they shrunk my group sizes considerably. Eley has been my best experience, but the overwhelming support for Lapua in the rimfire world says their match ammo must be on point also.
I have a Savage FV-SR 22LR with cheap Cabelas 3-9x40 22LR BDC scope , and a Ruger Precision Rimfire with a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire BDC scope. Both of those rifles will shoot groups of less than an 1” at 100 yards with out issue. So why on earth would I pay $1,000 to get this rifle from Volquartsen, when both of my rifles cost no more than $500 including optics..........makes NO sense to me. That being said, I do like the push-pull bolt. For $1000 I can live with out it though. I would LOVE to get out and shoot with 22 Plinkster though. I think he and I would have an enjoyable time with 22 shooting.
Why drive a Maybach when the Kia will get you there...?... because ya can my friend; there's no comparison. Volquartsen creates works of art unattainable in the world of mass production. If you are happy with what you have..... giddy up!
What one shoots with better accuracy in your opinion, the savage or the ruger? I'm going to buy one but have shot neither. Your opinion will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks
That's a real good shooting rifle. Very impressive for a factory rim fire. As good as you are, the only obstacle is the weather and the quality of the ammo. Just remember one thing. If you can't hit your target, shoot bigger bullets!
As reviewed...maybe a $1200 .22RF. Love it...but a Remington/Glenfield Model 60 with Tasco/'China-tech' budget scope would probably do about as well (future video?) for ~$800 less.
I keep watching these videos and think I must have lucked out with my stock 455 Scout (I only lightened the trigger with a .75¢ spring). I've lost count of the number of 1/4" or less groups I've shot at 50yds with CCI subsonic or Aguila standard off a cheap bag perched on the bed wall of my pick-up truck.
1 inch at 100 yards is pretty damn impressive for a 22.. I’ve never gotten that with my HMR, let alone my 10/22 I’ve also never shot match rimfire ammo though, so who knows
Plinkster, who wins VOLQUARTSEN SUMMIT or LITHGOW ARMS LA101?Im trying to decide which one would work best for me suppressed using an Atn XII for small varmints in the 50-100yd range. Thanks
I noticed you're using my favorite ammo, Federal Ultra-Match @~$8.00/50 but would you expect the group size to shrink much using summa dat $20/50 ELEY, Wolf, Lapua, etc.?
Back in the day, we pronounced it: Lew-pold, not Leopold......spelled Leupold? In biathlon, it’s a Fortner bolt, after the inventor, but you push the rear of the bolt, not the pull lever....some put a bloop tube on the end, not suppressor.....the hooded front sight rides the end of that...longer sight plane on peep sights.
Can we see some more distance challenges in .22 in the future? (as suggestion, with my fellow friend we used to shoot .223 casings at 50 yards, with my modest Armscor 14P, 9x chinese scope and CCI std ammo I managed 6 in a row, or try shotgun shells at 100 yards) - pretty sure you can up the game with .22 short casings and playing cards... Keep up the good work!
Gotta drop that trigger weight mate. I run all my rifle between 1 - 1.5 lbs (except my Sharps set trigger - 7ozs, lol). Top stuff!! They should be in Oz hopefully soon, shown at our 2018 SHOT Show.
Hey Plinkster! We are Patriot Knives and Gear, we're at the Gun & Knife Show in Dickson, TN this weekend (28&29 APR). I know you and Hikok are both in this area. Are we far from you and is there a chance you'll be here? Thanks for the videos!
I owned one of the PWS versions of these. It never grouped particularly well, and the rifle couldn't hold headspace. PWS, to my astonishment, said it was EXPECTED that the rifle would lose headspace. Honestly I had higher hopes for this volquartsen, but that accuracy is pretty poor for a rimfire of that price.
I am sure you have shot their semi-auto action rifles too. They have worked miracles with the 10-2 action. Do you see any accuracy improvement that can be attributed to the toggle action over the semi?
Did RUclips come too it's senses on firearms videos? Glad to see a new video. If I did not see the email, I would have never seen this new one as I stopped looking at RUclips after the announced their stupid new firearms policy. I hope enough people like me not opening RUclips made them wake up to their discrimination of a legal activity.
I honestly don't see a $11 difference between Federal Gold Medal Target bullets and Federal UltraMatch. There you go sir. Check this out please. Is there a difference and how much difference between Federal bulk AutoMatch, Gold Medal Target, Gold Medal HV Match, and Gold Medal UltraMatch. Or maybe Federal would not like that? All respect to you and also to Federal ammunition company. We do love their bullets.
Have a look at Strelok phone ap. There's a free version before you spend $10 for the pro version. I spent 1 day with the free one before upgrading. Very useful.
I would love to see how some SK, wolf or Lapua Midas ammunition would do in this rifle. I was never impressed with any federal rimfire ammo. Their center fire match ammo however is second to none and if your rifle won't shoot that your rifle won't shoot.
I love my pws summit, i was lucky enough to pickup the action for $500 on gun broker a couple of years ago. shooting cci 710fps ammo and a griffin 22M you barely hear anything. Its the quietest gun i own; and its the gun i shoot the most. I added a volquartsen barrel and a hogue thumbhole stock.
It's a pretty rifle, don't get me wrong, but similarly equipped 10/22s will shoot similar groups too and cost a lot less. So I, personally, don't get the attraction. It could be just me, but I don't think so.
I recently got a Summit. I’m getting a lot of fail-to-fire using CCI Quiet 22’s... my gunsmith says the firing pin spring has been lightened, to make the bolt easier to slide...they over-shot the landing zone. We can put a stiffer spring in...I don’t see a spring on the parts explosion.hmmm.
If ya wanna shrink groups, then buy good ammo, and match the rim thickness. standard velocity will actually shoot better than anything over 1100 FPS, the folks who shoot Olympic small bore do it at the highest levels of accurancy
I'd like to see it shoot better ammo to see if your groups shrink. If I was to make my decision on buying one based off this review I think I would pass. While these groups are good, I think there's better options out there for the price that will give you the same or better accuracy in my opinion.
2.5 to 3 pounds trigger sounds heavy for precision shooting... I have the flyweight trigger on my CZ455 currently set to around 250 grams pull, so 0.55 pounds. Still safe if I hit the stock with a mallet, but amazingly light for precision shooting... I've seen competition rifles from Walther or Anschutz with 1/4 pound triggers...
Nice rifle, 22plinkster, but like pistols best. When are you going to do a review of the .22 mag Scorpion ? I told Volquartsen, on FaceBook, to send you one ! :-) No one has done any reviews, whatsoever, of the 22 mag Scorpion. Get on it and get it done, Plinkster !
I like that action. It appears to be better than my Ruger American, that uses 10/22 magazines. How available are the actions? Are 80% receivers available? With all the 10/22 compatibility, an 80% receiver would be really the cat's meow.
I have a challenge for you, i want to see you shoot 25 rounds with a 22lr into the same exact hole at 15m range. The challenge is that you you can only do it with diopter sights or irons. I hope you can give it a try, i think you can do it. Good luck.
Looking for a general sense of how much effort it takes to throw the Bolt. It seems pretty effortless. Near $1300 though is a bit steep, but a sweet rifle.
Vertical stringing..... I'd be looking at different ammunition. Especially in rounds as slow as .22lr, inconsistent muzzle velocity can really show in groups
Been waiting for a decent review of the Volquartsen Summit. I have the PWS version, and I hope VQ ironed the bugs out of their version and it looks like they have. They are a $1500AUD rifle Down Under....
The PWS one I have would regularly fail to extract and fail to eject. Accuracy was ordinary to woeful with a variety of ammo. Also I was getting soft strikes and fail to fires. I did a lot of work ironing it out - extractor work, chamber polish, bedding, added a rear anchor and it's now pretty good, with only the occasional fail to eject. Accuracy is adequate for a bunny gun but in no way in line with the $1200AUD the gun cost - bear in mind it costs in line or significantly more than the Lithgow Crossover and Anschutz sporters by way of comparison. Others on forums like Rimfire Central have had similar issues. To be fair, others have had good results with the PWS Summit. Remember, I'm talking about the PWS version and NOT the new Volquartsen version as reviewed here. As I said, I do love to carry and use the rifle in the field as a bunny gun now it's largely sorted out. Mine has a 10.5" PWS carbon sleeved tension barrel and Raptor stock and you can see it in action in one or two of my videos.
What brand and height of rings ? I've always had to spend the most time on finding the correct ring hight to make sure the scope is as low to the bore axis as possible.......
Interesting. Hey, if I wanted to get a complete Volquartsen Match-Grade accuracy 22LR rifle, what should I get? I like to be bullseye accurate as much as I can.
The other difference in mine: you need three fingers to pull the lever back, and thumb heel to close it. Did you polish yours, or otherwise improve the action?
"Much more better good" I love it.
oops, I guess it pays to read the comments before duplicating them.
Jim, I was kinda thinkin' hot diggity damn good, myself! That action is as slick as a cat's ass.
And leopold!
I realize I am pretty randomly asking but does anyone know of a good site to watch newly released movies online?
I'm going to use this when applicable.
That's probably the sweetest 10/22 I've ever seen. I love how quiet it is
Not a 10/22
I'm very happy to see Volquartsen picked up the rifle. I bought the PWS verison back in 2015 and have to admit most of my bolt action .22s have turn into safe queens. Very happy with it and its a great suppressor host!

I always enjoy your videos. I'm glad you have started including caliper measurements of your group sizes. It's really helpful.

@@ivermec-tin666 It's an Izhmash, not sure what model. Too bad Russian firearms are not being imported, they have some unique and clever guns.

22plinkster You should consider doing some ammo reviews. Take a consistent rifle like this and chrono some of the CCI's vs Federal's etc, along with accuracy tests. That would be interesting to me and probably several other folks.

@@leftyeh6495 some of the volquartzen only recommended shooting non coated ammo only. I know i need to shoot lead only out of my Volquartzen Scorpion
"Minute of Squirrel at a hundred yards." Hahaha
You need to make a shirt that says "that's much more better good"
Volquartsen Summit receivers are available in stainless now, too.
Pretty accurate rifle. I have to get in a bit closer with my 67 year old Mossberg and 49 year old 4x Western Field scope.

I think they took a page from the pellet rifle community with the side lever cocking and I love it
That optic! Gold ring of glory
Vx3. Do they start at $500?
I like it,just think it was BrowninG that invented that action.

Great review! Hopefully we can see soon a review on the Tikka t1x, I have high expectations for that rifle.
Would have loved to see this with Lapua center-x ammo. The deviation here may be the ammo
"That's much more better good." 😄 Great video review on the Volquartsen Summit!
Excellent rifle. If I'm right the biathlon team uses a similar, push- pull design on their rifles. I saw that on TV once.
Pws designed this action for our shooters who couldn’t take their 10/22s over to liberal Europe
Nice video Dave. Love the rifle, it is very accurate. I love the 10/22 bolt action. Awesome
As reviewed...maybe a $1200 .22RF. Love it...but a Remington/Glenfield Model 60 with Tasco/'China-tech' budget scope would probably do about as well (future video?) for ~$800 less.
Bolt action 10/22......I'll stick with my CZ 455 Varmint , customized for half the price and all the accuracy.
Good choice
I do not think so....
Looks like a semi auto.. without the semi... looks luke it doea not have a true bolt head like a real bolt action. Am i wrong?
What about with one of those 10/22 integrally suppressed barrels?

I've seen competition rifles from Walther or Anschutz with 1/4 pound triggers...
We are not talking a concrete base here; more like a poly shooting table; very good.
Nice rifle, 22plinkster, but like pistols best.
When are you going to do a review of the .22 mag Scorpion ?
I told Volquartsen, on FaceBook, to send you one ! :-)
No one has done any reviews, whatsoever, of the 22 mag Scorpion.
Good luck.
"Much more better good" or did you mean, "Much more better Gooder"? lol, love it, thumbs heavenward, AND subscribed.
And i need one of these! Thanks for the review!
Because I whoud love to own one
Looking for a general sense of how much effort it takes to throw the Bolt. It seems pretty effortless. Near $1300 though is a bit steep, but a sweet rifle.
Man i saw this in person while shopping for a BXR carbon I’m just unsure if i should pony up the extra money 😅
I bought a Steyr 17HMR with the same kind of action.
Vertical stringing..... I'd be looking at different ammunition. Especially in rounds as slow as .22lr, inconsistent muzzle velocity can really show in groups
F--k now I want a Volquartsen thanks a lot
So it's a souped-up 10-22? Very nice.
Great review you "Rimfire Rat" 😉 Thanks plinkster love your channel!
That was pretty COOL MAN.😁
With some more tuning and tweaking you could easily get .500-ish groups @ 100
That’s a gorgeous rifle
Been waiting for a decent review of the Volquartsen Summit. I have the PWS version, and I hope VQ ironed the bugs out of their version and it looks like they have. They are a $1500AUD rifle Down Under....
mudbutton2 - what bugs?
I like to be bullseye accurate as much as I can.
silenthillvictim You should buy a Volquartsen Superlite in their thumbhole stock.
Nice rifle and good video as always.
Have you ever had any experience with the magnum research 22lr or 22 wmr rifles?
I will work hard and some day, maybe I too, will be "Much More Better Good". We must all have dreams.
The other difference in mine: you need three fingers to pull the lever back, and thumb heel to close it. Did you polish yours, or otherwise improve the action?
