- On the planet known as Third Earth, the Cats have lived and thrived for generations in the kingdom of Thundera. The Cats are led by Claudus, with his son and heir Lion-O. However, one night the kingdom is attacked by the Lizard army led by the evil sorcerer Mumm-Ra. With them, the Lizards bring technology (a concept unfamiliar to the Cats). Because of this, Thundera is destroyed, Claudus is killed by Mumm-Ra, and the rest of the Cats are enslaved. A small band of surviving Thunderians led by Lion-O (who wields the powerful Sword of Omens) flee the destroyed city in order to seek out the Book of Omens which is said to have the knowledge needed to defeat Mumm-Ra. Once they find it, the ThunderCats realize that in order for them to defeat Mumm-Ra, they must unite all the different species living on Third Earth. The ThunderCats also discover that they have to find three stones of power which if found by Mumm-Ra will give him power to become the most powerful being in the universe.
There are many shows that didn't deserve cancellation.
This show was one of them.
Thank you this was a awesome remake
Shows get cancelled when they don't sell merchandise. *uck corporate greed!
M .W. K wrong, I hate when iconic animation is rebooted completely different.
schwartz wolfe at least this anime style was better then the lazy stretchy like animation for thunder cats roar
"Deserve's got nothin' to do with it." - William Munny
The show was way ahead of its time! It would've faired alot better on Netflix like Voltron or Castlevania.
We can only wonder :( 😔
@@wolfgang6442 Then there was....He-man.
I thought this remake was really good. The problem is that the story and character design are very different from the original concept. This gave the fans a strange feeling.
The Remake of He-man(2001 I think) and TMNT(2002 I think). They will know how to modernize the elements without losing their essence. Although in terms of story and character construction they were inferior to Thundercats!
However the essence was kept.
I think the essence is the main factor of failure.
Well too bad Voltron only got two good seasons
Still hoping that Netflix remakes this as well. Thudercats deserves so much more. Heck, even other vintage cartoons deserve the spotlight most games (that were adapted) get in the mainstream media
Reasons this failed: Poor marketing of the toys, poor marketing in general, poor advertising of the show, NUMEROUS hiatuses, and CONSTANT changing of the show's airing time and almost never advertising when the new time was. In general the whole issue was a corporate level mismanagement of the product that lead to this unfortunate fate of this show.
Cartoon Network sabotaged this show like they did to all their other action shows.
@@ThatJohnKillion1970 I know right? Cartoon Network has been killing the creative potential of these shows for a long time. They did the same thing with Young Justice.
Yeah cause the in order to make the show poular you gotta promote the toys.
@@ThatJohnKillion1970 I agree
I legit did not know the original voice actor of Liono was new Liono's father... awesome.
I caught it the moment I heard it!
yea i dont know how you missed that, it took me 2 seconds to recognize him :D
and you know what's worse.
come the TeenTitansHO/ThunderCats Roar crossover they got Lion-O's original VA to reprise his role only for him to call those who don't like Thundercats roar "poop mouths with poop opinions"
@@ShanaReviews terrible
Great analysis of Thundercats 2011. I was really disappointed when it got cancelled, especially considering how much boring lowbrow garbage Cartoon Network has been cranking out ever since. Keep up the great work.
@randy s likely because of what Meta mentioned at the end: the toys weren't selling. Which is a big fuckin shame. Netflix should gather all the original cast for this show and continue with season 2 there.
@@KnightHawk1990 THEN GOT ROAR
@@Annoyingbirds oh my gosh 😊😊😊they legit made l Thundercats roar it sucks so badly thank God it's cancelled.😀 PS I'm 17 years old.
@@KnightHawk1990 they need to
@@Annoyingbirds roar shit
Thundercats Roar is our punishment for not appreciating this while we had it.
roar was actually a lot of fun if you gave it a chance. sadly the intial reaction to the previews, the HORRIBLE ttg episode introducing the show which didnt accurately portray what it would be like and insulting fans of the original and 2011, killed it before it had a chance to build an audience on its own merits
Rawr is the inbred version of thundercats series it's such an abomination
@@LichsCrypt have you watched any episodes or just going by the trailers?
@@zxtreme31 watched a 3 min into a episode
@@LichsCrypt i think if you gave it a chance, you may end up liking it. there are a lot of homages to the original, a lot of the jokes really are funny, and I know the models arent to everybody's liking, but they make some really amazing action scenes.
I felt the pilot actually was one of the worst episodes. Try Panthro Plagiarized. Worst comes to worse its 8 minutes and you dont like it. At best, you might enjoy yourself. Just remember youre not watching the original or 2011, just try it on its own merits.
This show needs to be revived on Netflix.
Alex Lemonds It would be amazing. I read the final story arcs they wanted to tell. Utter tragedy they didn't do them
MetaView Yeah, bummer they couldn't wrap up the show. Mentioned Netflix because Young Justice's continuation has given me hope more shows I enjoyed may also be resurrected there. I'd love revivals of Gargoyles, Spectacular Spider-Man, Medabots, The Big Guy & Rusty The Boy Robot, etc.
too late CN ruined it with taht thundecats roar shet there is no god for us :(
Deivil007 it's depressing times.
Meta View, How did you get to read the final arcs?
This was a great show. An incredible example of a reboot done right. It's a shame that it never even got to finish in comic form. I'd have bought them.
Netflix needs to bring this back, they never really advertised anything dealing with the merchandise.
I grew up with the original Thundercats, and i thought the 2011 reboot was excellent!
Facts!
The reboot was so much better than the original in retrospect
I loved this show. Shame it was canned. People slamming it makes me sad as I get they didn’t watch it.
They are the type of people to claim Transformers prime is lame and so is Voltron Legendary defender. The reboots have surpassed the originals as writing has advanced since then vastly.
100% agree
The Voltron reboot ended up being kinda bad 😅.. but otherwise the comment still holds up a year later 🙌
ant stenhouse There are those who only like the original of any series. They see every reboot as horrible, no matter how good they might actually be. That's probably why some really good reboots don't last that long. Certain elements of the fandom won't give them a chance.
True Fan Forum sadly true.
I personally didn't care for the show when I was younger. Now that I'm older now, but I'd be willing to give it another shot because now that I'm no longer a kid I started liking the stuff I didn't before
5:00 - The intro thing is interesting... The original intro was quintisentially 80s - cheesy, symphonic and long. Modern intros just aren't like that anymore. Just look at the differences between Smallville and Arrow. Introductions are short and snappy because people just want the show nowadays. The 2011 intro manages to respectfually allude to the original in scoring, while also generating a sense of epicness that matches the more modern tone. I like it!
A long intro saves you a few minutes of animation, over the course of a series that kind of savings adds up ... Modern cartoons are easier and cheaper to make per minute so it's less important than it used to be.
Plus almost all players have the skip intro option on automatic, which wasnt the case back in the day unless one had a VCR to fwd manually.
True. Exceptions are shows like GoT where the intro is a popular feature.
Otherwise it's a simple case of viewing habits changing over time.
Snarf can't talk? 1000% improved!
Not sure why so many ppl hate Snarf. I kinda like it. He is just a nanny of Lion-O, and he is quite smart and saved the Thundercats before.
I like the talking Snarf of the 80s.
millgiass oh come on that's just mean, but seriously thunder cats 2011 needs to air on Netflix
M.Grey more like they need to air all Classic Thundercats there, that's what Thundercats great
randy s even I watched it now I still don't find it annoying. That's his characteristic. A granny. And he saved the Thundercats before. I respect he is able to communicate with animals.
I couldn't stand snarf for a good while.
The 2011 was a great reboot, giving a greatly detailed story full of story development that actually improves all aspects of the series. Mean while this other shit they are releasing in 2019 is brain poison.
20 points utterly agree with you
I agree!
2011 sucked and the background story was horrible
It has the same guy making both. Michael Jelenic.
The Thundercats 2011/2012 series needed to be at least 3 - 4 seasons and that with the 2003 He - Man carton was good but short
I's shocked by how similar the setup is to Dune. Not in a bad way either, it's a really mature and complex beginning to a cartoon show. Brilliant.
If your going to imitate anything, I guess you can't go wrong with Dune!
The Game Show you know it seems like it's taking place in the world where Tumblr went mad, everyone beame crazy animal people, and then yeah technology died
The Game Show it is said in the bible that "faith without work is dead". This petition here was dead for 3 years. But, with a little help, we brought the fire and brimstone back into it and it is starting to breath life again. Right now we are at 1111 signatures out of 4000. It's sad that we are receiving thunder cats roar instead. Wish there is a petition I can sign to bring the show to netflix
ItzZatOneGuy Here petitions are pointless
www.change.org/p/warner-bros-and-netflix-continue-thundercats-2011
I wish there was a petition to name these execs "Mr. Poopypants" from now on.
randy s Dragon Prince is pretty good if you can ignore the choppy animation in the start of the first season.
Fantastic feature dude, though I think you need to mix up the music a little, 20 minutes of The Stanley Parable is a bit much.
Haha you should try editing to the music 😂
Glad you enjoyed it though.
Thundercats 2011 reboot>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Thundercats Roar.
Strider 4life duh
This needs like another two thousand or so greater thans to be sufficiently accurate.
More like a trillion more greater thans tbh at least in my opinion! (and I happen to like teen titans go on occasion too!)
Thundercats 2011 reboot >>> TMNT reboot >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dog shit >>>>>>>>>>>>>> thundercats roar.
You're a poop mouth with poop ideas lol!
I really miss this show, sucks that we will never see an conclusion to this wonderful series. 😢

5:30 When Liono starts his "Thunder..." chant, I got chills. This show was my JAM back in the day!
this show was epic! it deserved to be finished. not left on a cliffhanger of doom...
I'm a child of the 80's, but I did think this was the better produced version.
I was so so sad when this show was cancelled.
2021.Still crying about the cancellation of this great animation series.
Your channel is about to blow up. This is the best review of this under rated series.
Speek Geek Unlimited really appreciated. Thank you
Sadly the show ran at a time i rarely could watch it, so i never could enjoy it as a whole.
But i saw enough to realize how much potential it had.
In some aspects, the show made the same mistake shows like Teen Titans, Kim Possible and Disney´s Gargoyles did, they were too serious for the child audience they were intended, drawing in more mature viewers who enjoy the show, but don´t buy many toys.
They also didn't bother to advertise the toys. Not even during the commercial breaks in the show.
They didn't even advertise the damn show. When I was 12 and the show was coming out I would have loved it like I did with Dragon Ball and Deltora Quest. But down here in New Zealand I guess they didn't care about it enough or something and I never even heard about it. This made me lose interest in Cartoon Network when it all turned into Adventure Time or leftover shows like Johnny Test which didn't interest me at all. Damn shame too because stuff like this could have kept me watching their channel.
Well they did advertise for a little if you watched Cartoon Network in the morning a lot. I used to watch it with my dad I believe every saturday (not sure). You would see some toys if you went to the toy store but not a lot of them.
But Kim possible was a major success and ended on its own terms, it wasn't cancelled.
I usually had sports on Saturday mornings so I didn't watch it around that time. Maybe that's why, but still it could have used a bit more of a push.
One can only hope that the response to the new show. (Mostly bad) Will renew interest in bringing this one back. Even if it was on Netflix, I'd be ok with that.
SnicketStudios I was thinking that it could work as a straight to DVD movie. Possibly a trilogy. Warners has had good success with their dc releases
It can't mate
www.change.org/p/warner-bros-and-netflix-continue-thundercats-2011
I'd prefer a completely new remake one closer to the original source material and no love triangle
@@Optimegatrongodzilla No offense but petitions rarely work.
Pumyra being a spy was a twist i never saw coming. I wanted to learn more about her and I really wanted them to introduce the other Thundercats, Linxo and Bengali. Bengali being the brother to Tygra.
Well maybe you didnt see it coming because it was stupid as all hell? I mean, Pumyra works for Mum-ra, the guy who got her killed. And she wants revenge on Lion-O?
Now what if Thundercats Roar is just a long-game plan to get people to give a shit about the old style of Thundercats so when they release the second season to the 2011 reboot in about three years people will actually watch it?
I really hope so😢
Let's just hope we get comics instead because the chances of the show returning properly are slim to none
DrIvanRadosivic 1) since when?
2) i mean continue the season 2 storyline in comic books since we'll never get the show back
What if Netflix picked it up once this Shitpile Thundercats Roar tanks?
Adam Alvarez they'd have to bust their asses getting the og team back.
I'm currently on a journey of rediscovering the shows I used to watch years ago. Thundercats 2011 is one of them. Rip.
I went back and listenend the original intro again pure awesomeness! 🤣🤣🤣
Thundercats roar...END ME! NOW!
I remember I was in my early twenties when the first version of this cartoon aired on television in 1985. Great cartoon. Fond memories.
The 2011 series great! Was it better than the original? Nope! But it was still a great show that payed homage to the classic and made it very new. I loved the voice talent on the show. Especially brining back, Larry Kenney!
My absolute favorite part of the new series is the inclusion of Larry Kenney. The respect given to its source material and obvious love for all aspects of its original law, make this easily the best re imagining of an animated classic.
MetaView It certainly was.
This was totes better than the original
Emmanuelle Chiriqui was a revelation as Cheeta-Ra!!!
The Juicy Jedi jester I thought it was too after the heartbreaking Pumyra arc. I felt as betrayed as Lion-O did! (not to mention the others too!)
As I see it, the 2011 Thundercats knew it couldn't do better than the original iconic theme song, so it didn't really try. Just kind of paid homage to it and moved on with what it was good at. It is a shame, but I don't blame them from not trying to compete with the original on that front.
This remake was simply amazing! A shame it didn't last longer. Thundercats! Hoooo!
If one good thing Thundercats Roar is doing, if unintentionally, its giving a bigger and better appreciation for just how good the 2011 reboot was. I mean the range of emotions that I got from watching it was stupendous, and really set a new bar for what I expected from cartoons... Yeah I've been disappointed a lot.....
Phillip Gouthier you and me both mate!
Sempai noticed me!
Phillip Gouthier Sempai?
Phillip Gouthier you remember the episode with the flowers short life span. Had me sad at the end
thundercats roar put it on the radar for me, and after watching the whole thing I've decided I'm going to buy the blu ray of the 2011 series. so maybe if they realize how many people want the old show again, they might give us the second season. buy those blurays people
I cannot express just how much I enjoyed this. It hits every note and it hits it hard. Let’s just say... it’s very superlative
Great review mate. At first I was unsure about the show but after sticking with it I really began to like it more and more. I really appreciated what they were trying to do by really building up a lore and adding more depth to each character. They really did respect the source material. It's a massive shame it got cut short and now we're about to get that Thundercats Roar which looks like absolute garbage.
Champion 2D Rob as hard as it is support the show. Be how you are!
I was able to see this show when it was on. I really liked the changes and the storylines that were introduced. I was disappointed when the show was discontinued. I really felt this show had some great potential!
sage4 all2000 there are sites were the producers give details on where the show was heading. It's really interesting. But also very sad that will never see it.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely check it out!
I've only just got around to watching this. I assumed it was garbage and just didn't give it a a chance. It was SOOO GOOOODD. Amazing animation and some solid story telling and character arcs. I hope streaming can bring this back.
This was the same situation as Young Justice. But sadly this was never saved.
I was sad when they stopped making them episodes. Probably one of the best Animation i have watched.
I'm so mad....This show needs to be brought back
I still want a proper conclusion for this iteration of the thundercats literally the origins of the sword of omens and how mumm ra interacts with the lore fantastic
When this show ended, god abandoned us
I have yet to find a show that matched its scope and potential
well netflix did a good job with voltron :)

When RUclips even hates thunder cats roar that it recommends the well appreciated 2011 version
Just started watching this series, up to episode 5 and can't believe it's been cancelled...
I'm also an 80s kid so having all these amazing shows, films and classic wwf all together back then I appreciate more in this era where nothing seems to hold up in comparison!
Fun fact, this was Mat Mercer's first ever TV show, and he gave an amazing performance. That really shows how good a voice actor he is.
Subbed. I grew up when Thundercats was on TV. The time it aired made it hard to see but when that theme played it was precious. The same level as Christmas morning.
It was a great show that gave an actual plot to the 80's show.
The 80's show had a better plot. The only thing this reboot did was change the story around completely and made great characters from the classic show unlikable in the reboot. Also the sword of Omens got the biggest damn nerf in all of animation.
1:15 _T'challa: give them producer to continue their work._
Woah this is a really good review. 10/10 would watch again
Song of the petalars was my favorite episode. It's filled with a lot of great inspirational quotes and loved Emeric. It was awesome to watch him blossom and grow into the petalar he became in the end.
Thundercats 2011 was SOOO good.
Man I still get chills from that old Thundercats theme song.
I liked the new intro, it was am homage to the original without trying to remake it.
I have a feeling it will make a comeback one day. Never say die. Thank you for sharing this!
I don't get it,the quality of the show in itself seems like a money maker on Netflix, why is it being forgotten like this?
Because animation isn't respected in the West. It's viewed as just for kids, thus the focus on toy sales. I think that's going to change as anime becomes more popular. It's profitable to copy the magic of anime, which Netflix has already done. This gives hope that series of old will be revived.
I'm glad I was able to track down and buy the whole series on DVD!
They have it on bluray now if you want to upgrade! 😎
Honestly I hope that maybe This version of Thundercats can maybe be rebooted or picked back up via Netflix in the same way Voltron was.
That 80s intro made me smiles for 10 straight minutes.
I'm going to give Thundercat Roar a chance but 2011 Thundercat look cleaner than the 80's. I also think Thundercat Roar is not going to last as much because toy marketing, idk that just the way I think when I here stuff like this
That show was great! So, of course it was cancelled. Its should be picked up by Netflix.
another detail for the meta section: the magic word to open the forever bag is the name of the old studio that made the original thundercats
Wow great review. I didn't even know about the show until I started seeing videos about the new Thundercats Roar shittiness. Then I saw your video and watched it I'm going home after work today and going to watch or find Thundercats 2011. As a kid I loved the original thought of Thundercats I have all of them on Blu-ray I still have a lot of my old original toys. I never even knew that 2011 existed. And Thundercats Roar probably one of the most horrible shows of ever seen
Cabal Gamez I really hope you enjoy the show. It just really grabbed me from start to finish
And as a proper fan I think you will enjoy the sheer amount of Easter eggs and homage to the original.
MetaView yep I'm excited too start watching it tonight
@@DrinkingMidget bro how was the experience of Watching thunder cat 2011.
@@starshiphopper7044 I did watch thundercats 2011. And I love the artwork. I really like the story. I thought the changes that they made to the story made sense. And I was very sad when I got to the end and I know that we're not going to get any more.
@Connor B_THATNERDYGUY that is your opinion. Thundercats Roar in my opinion is not a good show. The 2011 Thundercats was amazing the original Thundercats which I watched as a kid was amazing.
To be fair with the short 2011 title card- that was becoming the standard for most shows around that time. The era of the 1 to 2 minute theme song was over, audiences wanted more story, so the opening themes were sacrificed in exchange for title cards. Arrow, the Flash, Spider-man... all of them just had title cards around this time period.
watched Roar eps 1 and 2 today and now all i wanna watch is 2011. found this review and had to watch it. thanks for all the factoids and analysis.
Having watched all the episodes, it had a lot of potential. The story had believable twists, even though more dark. The music was just as good in my opinion. Over all I thought it could hold it's own, alongside the original. I grew with the original series, and have all the episodes of both the 1980's and the 2011 series. And I agreed with the voice actor choices, especially bringing back the original Lion-O aka Larry Kenney, one last time, as King Claudis. Sad that it never went past one season.
Netflix make this happen , bring back this ThunderCats version.
love this video, im goona watch them all your voice is awesome and your reviews are the best :) . You just earned another subscriber!
pointerariza glad to hear you enjoyed. I hope you continue to enjoy the future content!
this show was awesome..my daughter and i watched it everytime it aired..she wanted the toys so i had to buy doubles....
He-man 2003 was really good. I had almost all of the toys.
I really enjoyed the 2011, I would have loved the original voice of mumm-ra, but further more I was surpriced that so few episodes have been produced. How cool would it be if we got more? And.. I give Metaview a serious thumbs up for this video, so cool and I could not agree more!!
I read some interviews with the producers of the 2011 series. The plans for the second season sounded brilliant.
Yo your background music is hella relaxing 🔥
Swat Kat's is the best
It really is!
When I was stationed in Germany my wife and kids gifted me all the series on DVD of the Thundercats series. Some how it was lost in transport from Germany to the U.S. Those DVDs were by far my most well enjoyed gift to date after my beautiful children of course!!!
Such quality in this show. Personally, this is my favorite Thundercats version.
this show was amazing, and I'm speaking as a child of the 80s myself who loved the 80s original. Worst tragedy to have this cancelled by soulless corporate despots.
God, that intro sent fire thru my veins! I'm still pumped up!!!
Likewise
9:08 Snarf was more like Cringer. Orko, although nowhere near a great warrior, and a bumbling sorcerer, was always ready to put in that work lol
Except unlike Cringer, Snarf was actually useful at times.
This was an amazing reinvision of thundercats and wish they did more :(
I respected that they didn't redo the theme song. They realized there was no topping the original.
Bruh, I haven't herd that theme in YEARS. Thanks for reminding me about it
I'm a 45 yr old man and I grew up on Thundercats so I really want to see this..
High chance you'll be disappointed.
And GREAT VOICE ACTORS!!! I know 2 of them in ThunderCats 2011!!!
nah man, that new intro stayed true and kept it as epic, i like it
some of these older vids have been popping up for me lately and I've been saving them as a workout playlist. I remember the original from when i was little but really appreciated this version. I only have one issue with your analysis... Michael McKean's greatest role was in Clue!
I thought the thundercats reboot was excellent. And I’m in my 30’s. It should have gotten more seasons
The kittens and Snarf in this cartoon were some of the cutest things ever.
This needs to return and i think everyone agree, it should be on Netflix or one of those other streaming channels.
I think the viewership when up on this video because of thundercats roar .Way to go with how much vids you got on this video
Great show. Really loved Panthro and Grune. Miguel was great as the swords man, and Steve Root as the smith.
Thanks for the video. Love the original. Going to check this one out now.
It's the Hunch back of notragoddamb it!!!!!
I remember watching the the 2011 remake show and watching the first episode I remember the guys from the show dude what would happen gave like an intro to the show then the intro theme came on and after that I was hooked on the show I even bought the thunder cats vehicle I forget what it is called but that thing was a lot of fun I was 9 years old when the remake came out another show that also came out was symbionic titan and that show was also a great one
Always loved this take on thundercats because it reminded me of last airbender
I truly miss this Thundercats reboot...... I subscribed to your awesome analysis channel!
Thank you so much!
That opening is and forever will be the GREATEST animated opening in cartoon history! You can feel it in your friggin' toes from the very start. Fight me.
It was a great reboot. The He-Man reboot was good too. I like how the backstory in both was more serious not just written for dimwits and small children
The He-Man reboot was great, the only thing I missed was the power swords classic design and cringer being able to talk. Also the transformation scene could have been better with music similar to the classic show.
