My take on the video: The boy in the video who brought the tape player to the door was the Hippie's younger self, the music reconnected him to that younger, happier side of himself. I just love watching this.

A friend of mine hosted us in her hometown for vacation. Her mom made a playlist for us, that we would play in the car everytime. This song was in the playlist, and it brings back vivid memories of one of the greatest experiences I have had with friends.
Hard to believe this album is 10 years old now. I think that over time it has become my favorite total album by Midlake, the one I enjoy most from beginning to end.
I used to see Midlake everyday back when this came out and for several years after til I moved. They were always together working on music at their house near University at Idiot's Hill (possibly the greatest name for a neighborhood ever 😅).
Saw this 8 years ago , been listening midlake more than 10 years, when i first saw it , i was 24 , and i thought this is probably how i am gonna end up when I’m old. Now 32 , and i think this is definitely how i am gonna end up. Give it another 10 years and we’re there ;)
So nice to c all the loverly comments about this lil video, was great fun to shoot and the band are so cool too. Keep sharing peeps... and I'll keep dancin' X The Hermit
Oh wow, it's you! You sir are one awesome dude. You have a face that tells stories. I listen to this song a lot, but can't get anything done because I always have to watch the video with it. x
huggle684 Hey thanx man... so glad you enjoy the video, for me acting it's all about effecting people so moments like this make it worth the struggle. JC

Jon Campling You are so welcome. Your presence is what makes this video. It's one of my favourites and I can't wait to see you in other things. Keep up the good work.
Well... u can see me looking at bit smarter in the new THE FEELING vid for FALL LIKE RAIN or a lot rougher in HOW LONG by HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS (Trent reznor) lol. Enjoy.
Hi Jon here the dancing old guy from the video so glad you enjoyed the video it was an absolute joy to film and a highlight of my acting career. I met midlake after it's release when they played in the UK they gave me my wife tickets to come to the gig it was amazing, top dudes 🤟♥️
a facebook post from this girl I know brought me here. she challenged people to give her a song based on her profile pic. on this picture you see her and her grandfather. looking for the words old and young taught me that this little gem exists ❤

Ok, so I work at a supermarket and there’s this in-store audio network that plays a seemingly random selection of songs (I swear that sometimes I hear the same song twice on longer shifts). Anyway, this song played about once or twice every three or so weeks and I’ve been trying to figure out what it is since I started working back in 2017. I have had no real luck because it is kinda hard to tell what they’re singing. Then it occurred to me a couple days ago to re-download Shazam and get to the bottom of this. As you can tell, my opportunity came today.
Me too! I swear all supermarkets use the same playlist. I only ever hear a good song every few weeks while the same bad music plays every day. Any time this song comes on at Fred Meyer I stop everything to listen! lol
Unless you're a die hard Tim smith fan, then I'd have to disagree completely. The new Midlake is so much more better. The way these songs flow you can tell this band is having a great time doing what they want and making great music. I love Antiphon. I think it's their best album yet and I can't wait to hear what they put out next. The band is better without Tim holding them back.
I miss the old material as well, but I feel they truly accomplished something special with Antiphon. Eric is just as wonderful of a vocalist as Tim. Yes, they don't have Tim's unique voice in there anymore, but Eric , although different, has just as unique of a voice. Also, in that aspect, Eric did a TON of backing / harmonizing vocals in the old material, so it was a very natural transition to put him in the lead vocal slot after Tim left. Also, while this album has new elements in there, they also kept that old, rustic feel they've always had in there. I dig it a lot. I know it's difficult to accept the circumstances that led to this album (I know I had a hard time initially), but I feel if you give it time, you can find yourself enjoying the new (-ish) album.
Van Occupanther is an incredible album. This album (along with most of the other ones, save The Courage Of Others, which I would suggest getting next to transition better) doesn't quite have the rustic, old-country feel like Van Occupanther has, however, they very much have the emotional intensity and retro (this album is more like 60's / 70's type) feel that Midlake is known for. I'd say go ahead and buy it, as it's still a great album. You just gotta give it some time to grow on you, especially with Van Occupanther in mind.
The album has been a real grower for me. When I heard Tim Smith left and wasn't featuring I was worried and lost my excitement for Midlake. After several listens, it's starting to catch on, and I'm beginning to love it. I really love this song, the Tim Smith element is missing and changed the sound slightly, although the album seems to be closer to The Trials of Van Occupanther than the previous album.
Time will have warranted all that the foliage brung Falls to the ground at the feet of the old and the young Tired and worn from a life made of wallowing pain Of what will be made Is all that remains Of the core Bear the old and the young Time will have warranted all that the foliage brung So bear the old and the young Awoke from a long one that came on the heels of a day Where sun would arise and then grant us the kindness of ray Fields full of grandness, surrounded by droves that await And look for the grave In everything Adorn Bear the old and the young Time will have warranted all that the foliage brung So bear the old and the young
Found Midlake via this album and the title track. Not sure what it is about it but it's stuck with me and never get tired of listening to it 7 years later.
woww there was a music video almost exactly like this, but with a city old man who lived in solitude and created electronic things and runs outside at the end ecstatic about life. There were also kids in that video. can't remember it though.
Callahan Ie lol dude that some gayboy shit with an old man having puppet strings on him playing the music. This video is a bitter man, who despises the punks who bother him, but the punks give him some music and he is alive. Its all wrong.
Kid Toxic Me too! I heard them say he was a "death eater" in an interview and because I'm not a Harry Potter fan I had to google it to figure out what that was LOL! From there I googled "long gray haired death eater" and found a photo with his name on it! He has such a great look!
one of my all time favorite bands right here
Just wanted to drop the note, you have changed my life, Midlake!

Still watching in 2022? Man, it will be everlasting.
An almost criminally underrated band

The clip is absolutely beautiful!
I did not even know this song until I watched "The Backlist", and fell totally in love with it.

my favourite is #trialsofvanoccupanther, but this song and "this weight" is gold too
I used to see Midlake everyday back when this came out and for several years after til I moved. They were always together working on music at their house near University at Idiot's Hill (possibly the greatest name for a neighborhood ever 😅).
This song is hauntingly beautiful
sitting here lonely at my house, thinking about all good memories of the loved ones I’ve lost, and this song beats harder in my heart…

This isn't the Midlake I know, but it's really great too. Almost a different band really but hey who listens to just one band.
A lot of bands evolve and mutate over time, it's only natural.
For us older fans, doesn't this have a ring of some of the Alan Parsons Project to it?
yeeees
totally
I agree. Parsons and Pulido share a similar timbre. Good call, man.
I was listening to their song acts of man and it totally reminded me of King Crimson. Songs like Epitaph and In the wake of Poseidon.
Well observed
Is there a stereo version :)
😍 kimse gelmeden
great song + vid;p
