very helpful! :)
...but i dont know about That Crack towards the end!
To the point. Good visuals. Tips are good for giving you that profession edge.
@viilips Laminate flooring is usually meant to imitate a wood floor which tends to come in varying lengths resulting in a random pattern. The random stagger pattern is suggested because it makes the end joints less noticeable then a consistent stagger pattern. A consistent pattern results in a look where the end joints form a stair pattern that is very apparent and ultimately less desirable to most homeowners.
good video for very basic info for DYI'ers. Would have been more useful if they showed how to click the boards length-wise and the end clips at the same time. Installing a laminate floor is not that hard, but I think this video makes it look easier than it really is.
Take a flooring & installation class at your local community college. Here in Fayetteville,NC its only $125 . 1x a week for 3hrs... for a total of 48hrs of instruction... mistakes + learning curve will catch up to you... but this method is cost effective and stress free, if you go the DIY route..
The best I ever see, simple and fast, thank you, great job.
the best thing to do when using a tap block, is cut a small strip off a piece of laminate and join just the top to the bit of laminate your taping in and use the taping block against the small strip. that way you don't bust up the joints especially if you have cheaper laminate
what do you mean to join "just the top"? I am not sure what you mean here. Not a handyman or carpenter here!
the piece of laminate you use with your tap block you want to make sure that piece slots into the part you want to tap in.
Thank you Much!
Not a bad video though. I install this stuff professionally so I'm always on the internet looking for anything to make my job easier. Needless to say I've seen some bad videos and advice. I don't have a problem with this one, covers the basics for a DIY.
Thanks this video really me do what I need to do
The chop saw shot has some beautiful scenery- where are y'all?
Perfect and simple demo
Very good guidance!
Excellent video
My floor has a carpet that I'll be replacing with a laminate floor. The carpet has a 1/2 in. Particle foam pad. Should I leave the old pad and lay the new laminate floor on top? I thought it help insulate the sound . Please advise. Thank you.
Wow great video production! And very informative
very helpful video..
Thank you for the tips
great video very helpful
nice I liked that cutter, that was neat
Good video
nice
I also was curious if you think 1/8" gap is a problem for a transition between the bathroom tile and the actual Laminate Flooring. My Flooring is around 3/8" thick and my tile is probably 1/4" tall, but I am planning to install the transition as if these two are equal heights. Do you think I will see any problems? Will I need to shim the tile side up somehow?
if you started every other row with a half of a board this would not look good? I see you ask for random or all sorts of sizes to start rows, but I thought a full piece to start then a half piece for next row to start would be OK. Is this not the case?
I think it's saying if you go full board then half board then full board then half, etc ... it would look too patterned. So various starting sizes is better.
Good
Are the borders soppiest to be bended in the center
Floor has to be less than HALF of the thickness of the trim to the wall, not just less than the full thickness of trim. Otherwise floor may shift fully to one side and leave a gap on the other side. Been there done that. :(
You don't even show the part where you take off the spacers. I want to see the space that is left behind when the spacers are removed. And I want to a step by step guide of you putting floor trim on top of that space between the wall and the floor board where the spacers used to be
Are you brain-dead? You put the trim where it goes and nail it to the wall.
rachinc
Cheesy hi 5 finale but hey. i liked the bullet opening, very American lol.
LOL Thanks! We're good at cheesy and American here.
I liked this video
thats helpful
please can you let us know what did you use for the trim in this vedio and where can I find it. Also 1/8 spacer is necessary or not.
Thanks.
I need the exact same laminate for my house. My living room was completed by my previous owners and I want to continue the same laminate into my den. Can anybody help me know what laminate has been shown here in the video?
Thanks
I'm just here because my dad is replacing the carpets in the hallway, bedrooms, and probably the living room with laminate.
Mississippi_Man1 I work in laminar floor in you need it
Hey. I am almost finished installing my Laminate Flooring in my Master Bedroom and I have a 1 inch gap between the last piece of full sized flooring and the wall. The wall doesn't have the baseboards installed yet, so my distance is more like 5/8 or 3/4 of an inch. Should I rip a skinny piece on the table saw and use it to ensure zero gap between the flooring and the baseboard? Or what should I do? thank you in advance
Glue two sections first, let it dry, then rip it. Or you could hide it by adding a quarter round to the bottom of the baseboards.
hi there, can you help how to fix popping out and squeaky laminated flooring installed with underpad/underlay foam? thanks in advance.
Apply a small bead of PVA type 2 glue to the seams of the laminate. This will also help prevent spills from getting underneath the boards.
Where did you find the floor spacers? I love those! I hate the stand up kind that you have to use tape with. Please tell me.
You never got a response or answer here? That sucks!
We sell spacers here: www.bullettools.com/flooring/easy-wedge-laminate-floor-spacers
Thank you!
What's those little red thingies
Laminate flooring or Vinyl which one is the best??
How do you use the Skimmer ll and No Flip Clip? Never needed it before.
These are discontinued tools, but the Skimmer II scraped any chips or debris out of the grooves on tongue and groove flooring. This allowed boards to be locked together more easily and saved boards with tongue or groove damage. The No Flip Clip clipped over about two rows of installed click-together flooring (kind of like a bobby pin, but really big) to hold boards in place as you tapped in the next row. On the early tongue and groove planks, boards would often flip up or come loose as you were pounding in the next board with a tapping block. They were some of the original inventions of our founder, Dalen Gunn!
@@bullettools Thanks, don't mind having both of them. I start out the first two rolls off the wall holding it down with a 5 gal paint bucket of drywall mud which I always around.
3:20 Why they suggest to make cuttings random? I like to lay laminate systematic. The one I layed for my flat today had gaps in all corners thus joints are very noticeable. Leaving connection joints right in the uncut laminate board middle gave me best looking end result.
i know im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a method to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb forgot the login password. I would love any tips you can offer me.
@Forrest Messiah Instablaster :)
@Neil Moshe Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Neil Moshe it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Forrest Messiah happy to help xD
can you lay timber flooring on top of timber flooring ?
Is underlayment always necessary? I know some laminate comes with some sort of padding or something attached, which makes it more expensive and so I need to find out if I need any such things before I begin this installation. By the way, I have not watched this video just yet.
Even if there is pre-attached padding on the laminate, you will need moisture barrier, especially if installing over concrete floors.
i want to lay floors, and blow things up now
Where do I find red spacers like those shown in the video? Need 1/2" gap around each wall.
Lowes has them
just use a piece of flooring scrap no need to buy a special spacer
Hi ...
The flooring shown in the video at approx 0:52 ... that color (orangish)... WOW! I suppose it's not real? Or is it ?? I *want* that color. It's STUNNING. Do you have an clue where I could get something close to that color scheme, preferably in 12mm with under pad attached. Links would be appreciated. I'm in the greater Los Angeles area, but ordering it from where ever is not an issue. Thank you. And great video ... great tips.
explained well. I have a house on a cement slab with clay underneath with lots of moisture? I installed solid un finished hard wood oak in my four bedroom raised ranch . everything was good for a while until the bedrooms down stairs started to raise up . I had put plywood down first with felt paper and nailed it down with a 22 caliper nail gun and then felt paper and then the hardwood. what a mistake ? I had to rip it all back out again and there was mold present and the nails just pulled right out from the moisture ? Lot I am going to try it again with moisture barrier and the laminate flooring. I hope this works? what a lesson ?
Is it better to orient it towards the greatest light source or longest wall because these two are not the same in my condo? Thanks
If your room is square(ish), then the longest light source is what should determine your layout direction. For more rectangular rooms and for hallways, going along the longest wall will be faster to install and will probably look more natural.
okay, thank you so much. Makes sense.
Keep in mind that most legit hardwood (the kind that is nailed in) goes PERPENDICULAR to the joists, which means 99 percent of the time it will be parallel with the longest side of the house. What this means is that if you have a floating floor like this then it would look weird if it was running with the joists. Light sources, imo can be fickle and change throughout the day and if you have a room that is more square but has a light source that goes WITH THE JOIST, then I would strongly advise against doing that. Always go perpendicular to the joists, especially if you really want to mimic the traditional nailed hardwood floors. Sorry Bullettools, not trying to snipe you all (no pun intended), BTW I really like your name and motto. Sound like good second amendment folks!
So i just realized that this was from a year ago, and unless your slow as molasses at installation your probably long finished with your floor, so disregard my previous post
necesito la maquina !!
la venden uds?
saludos
se rentan
Also remember buy the best padding or you wont be Happy at the end
Where can I get those s-shaped spacers?
A+
I can't believe you don't show how to do the end to end connections in the middle of the insulation !
Concrete floor with out a liner?
Foam underlayment is laid down under the laminate. Please pay special attention to 1:43, 3:07, & 3:26. Thanks for watching!
One thing that people should keep in mind is that when you lay the laminate in hot weather, the expansion gap only applies to shrinkage because in hot weather the boards are at their maximum expansion.
So the gap needs to be minimal to allow for maximum shrinkage.
Provided the laminate has been at the job site for a few days and not stored in a nice comfy 70 degree room
why did you shoot the floor full of holes?
I am a laminate floor installer here in Brazil coko concigo a letter of employment to work ai popping floor how and demand ai and great has work? How is the payment made and by the hour or by the work?
In the United States most professional flooring installers quote installation prices according to the size of the room, not according to how many hours it actually takes to install the floor.
Any tips on how to keep your ass from hanging out during installation?
+Darren Murphy Wear a mumu.
.
+Darren Murphy if you happen to be a sexy woman its acceptable...
Darren Murphy 😂
Spackle mixed with your skin tone. Mix, Apply with muddin knife.
Im here because i paid a company a lot of dosh to install it and just wanna see before they come.
Why didn’t you show how to connect the tiles
How much sf for installation
Simple equation to guide you: length of the room X width of the room X 1.10 = total sf of product you should buy
$1.30/sf at Costco DIY. Maybe $2.5/sf (labor) plus material using a contractor depending where you are what they have to remove and repair. Local floor shop should provide you an estimate.
did that guy nail her on the new laminate at the end??
lol, remember to shut your phone off, or put it away when you record :) very help full though.
Skip using a tapping block and purchase a quality estwing grey mallet for 20 bucks.
how you add 10%?
if you have 28 sq. m., you add one tenth of that (2.8 sq.m) and you end up with 30.8; That's 4th grade math.
=
nigel cichlid. If you can't add 10% of the room size and go as far to ask youtube commenters (home of the brightest) then you're better off hiring someone to do the job.
Do you guys feel better now? making fun of youtubers asking a question is pretty childish! but hey whatever makes you feel better about yourselves right? lol!
Ok this was 2 years ago, nigel forgot to mention how do you add 10% by using string theory when situation is at non STP condition near a black hole.
found the video educational . Except for The "Butt Crack at the end of it, " Tip of the day for DIY"s keep "YOUR Pants pulled up!
Not very informative on what is the cut side...note when cutting cut from backside
Nothing oh how to cut and tuck under door jams? Your missing fair bit out here
1 big assumption is that your floor is square in this video!! - doesnt take that into consideration before you start laying
blah blah blah crack kills at 2:37
Looks great UNTIL you mop it a few times. Good luck!
2:40 collecting coins mate?
Well he was going good on the first piece. Then nothing. How do you fasten it? No brads, nails or glue? Hmmmm..... Next thing that told me this guy knew nothing about 'trim" (including flooring) is showing the mitered corner for baseboard. You don't miter a corner installing base or other floor trim. Sad!
Test
Bad crack!
You need to spend more time showing the floor instead of showing yourself!
Did not need to see that butt crack. Geez.
CRACK KILLS!
dubledoor
lol
Your intro is a little extra man.
Too complicated. Thought all you did was snap the planks together. I’ll just get an installer
