    It was fun to have an interactive element to the video. However I felt that it was confusing/disorienting to have the camera moving so much during the video. It's already challenging to try to pinpoint where the sound comes from, so then having to visualize rotating the sound based on the reference head was overwhelming. It would have been easier to follow if the view was consistently from the rear.

      That's a fair point. I wanted the video to be more dynamic not thinking it would actually take away from the enjoyment. Thanks for the constructive feedback :)

    Binaural 3D audio is underrated af. You can emulate a 5.1/7.1 audio setup for movies and older games. Steam Audio and OpenAL (latter used by Minecraft Java Edition) can directly generate 3D audio with positional data (looking at Steam Audio it's more complex than just positional data as well). Other games might have the feature built in or will need modding.

    For those that can't hear the difference between in front/behind / above/below because their headphones are not good enough (me), try this:
    Put your headphones on in an unconventional way, so that one speaker is on your forehead and the other is on the back of your head. When the test plays, you will be able to tell whether it was the speaker in front or the speaker behind you that played louder.
    Likewise you can put one speaker under your chin and the other on top of your head, and you can tell which plays louder.
    In each case, I would recommend holding the speakers slightly away from your head so as to not seal the speaker shut and hear a muffled noise.

    I have very sensitive eyesight and hearing. I also have very weak feeling of my body etc, so clumsiness dyspraxia so walking is hard (like i everyday forget about bending joints when walking)
    For years I walked with closed eyes mostly operating by my hearing... I always think that everything in sun is just white. Black or white, everything is white in sun for me. Today I cant go out of home without headphones. I cant use earplugs because the sounds from body can be too loud even without them (it is normal to me to hear my heart beating, blod flow, work of digestive system, my lungs etc travelling in my body even without earplugs...)

  • @VeilStar
    @VeilStar 2 месяца назад

    Apparently I can't tell what height a sound is coming from. I get the horizontal direction spot on, but the vertical direction I seem to have almost no conception of. Guessing the vertical direction when it comes from above my ear height seems worse than below it. I wonder if there's a statistical difference in this depending on how far above or below the average height a person is.
    5:40 Works really well for me.

    I was going to complain about this not working...
    turns out I had mono audio turned on on my computer, turned it on ages ago cause I had bad headphones that shorted the left and right channel and it seems I forgot to ever turn it off.
    Thank you for that I suppose? I think I would have just left that mono audio one forever if not for this video.

    I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation! I am an audiophile who loves the power of sounds and music. I’m a musician, I worked in a call center and Ive always had a fascination and curiosity for sound. When I hear birds I try to guess what species they are. When I hear aircraft and helicopters I try to guess which type they are before I see them. My all time favorite sound is the binaural sound of the space x falcon heavy rocket launch! ❤
