My contribution on the programming side is relatively minor, I'm only now learning how to really get into the more difficult stuff. All respect due to the really talented folks who made things user friendly enough for me to explain!
Going through this, it does strike me that there is so much more you can do with the glitches because the developers put so much love (so many mechanics) into the game. Like being able to use the daycare man to directly manipulate the xp, mail, items, tms, static encounters. Like if they don't put enough mechanics, then the manipulation also becomes more grueling and boring.
@@DGice2 yeah its honestly a beautiful accident that all of this works like it does. You could always use an R4 with the DS Lite to extract your save data, and then move the pokemon over manually. There's a DS homebrew app called "GBA Backup Tool" that can take GBA saves and put them on the SD Card. Could even connect 2 copies of mGBA and do the actual trading, if using PkHex isn't your style. Cheaper than buying 2 systems and a link cable.

I just love the phrase "unencrypting pokemon". It's amazing. "We turned fireblast into a glitched item" and "using this berry we can put sketch onto any pokemon" is just so crazy. Also, in spite of how incredibly crazy and fun this is, it reminds me that the overwhelming majority of competitive players just cheat their pokemon in. Or at the very least, they use Pokemon showdown, which doesn't require an hour of setup to build a basic team to test things out.
Thank you for providing this information for everybody to see. It's opened up a whole new world for me, and I am looking forward to learning the ins and outs of everything as I go along. That said, I do have a question about RNG seed calibration. My Trainer ID and Secret ID in my copy of Pokemon FireRed do not allow me to follow along exactly with what you're doing, though I am following everything as closely as I can. I have a set of 6IVs with HP Dark that I'm trying to create on the Eevee in Celadon City. When I calculated everything needed, the code I got is as follows: "sound = mono, l = lr, button = a, select = yes." I have been fussing around with this for hours at this point, and while I've gotten plenty of close matches, none have matched what I need 1:1; it's usually the select part of the code that is messed up. I've even tried to look up what "select = yes" means, but haven't found any good answers. I know in the video you kind of mentioned that it was something about button pressing, but that doesn't really help me overcome this hurdle. Could you clarify what I'm supposed to do with "select = yes?" That would help tremendously as I strive to create my own personal army of super Pokemon in my Gen 3 Pokemon games.
@@JamesBrown-m5t "select = yes" means you need to hold select through the entire boot up sequence and intro cutscene for the duration of your first timer, you'll keep it held all the way until you pass the title screen. Sorry I didn't include this info! Hopefully that helps you get a seed calibrated
this makes me insanely happy because i was hoping for these gba games to have some crazy ass glitches like the gbc one. Sure maybe its not the insane glitch city but i am beaming with delight that these also have their weird glitches
Haven't seen the video yet but it makes me so happy just to see fire red and leaf green brought up decades after their release. Makes me so proud to be a Pokémon fan
The interesting thing is, I don't think there is a way for modern Pokémon games to detect these manipulated and, effectively, genned Pokémon if they are used in tournaments. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I'm more interested in Event Pokémon being preserved with these type of exploits, without needing additional hardware or software.
This is somehow just as nice of a compliment as trying it out, because it means the video might reach a larger audience just for ambient Pokemon related longform watching.
@@PapaJefeYT i personally think these "legal" methods of generating pokemon are too tedious to do, but how they work under the hood and the effort that goes into optimising these methods are really interesting to hear about. keep it up
@oniondesu9633 yeah at this point I don't even need better methods, or more Pokemon. I just enjoy solving the puzzle and making it work. Glad you found it interesting!
Thank you very much for this video and the info! Hope now I can get 6IV Shiny Deoxys as I always wanted since I was a kid!
@ let’s go! Just food for thought as I was not having luck with RNG manip I saw there is a code in e shark for seed manipulation and teleport but it requires the glitch move on a Crobat to execute (Seipnir guide has a code for it but it’s for the other method of ACE, not grab ACE). I thought that maybe with the code you created for the clone glitch Pokémon you could also use it to create this Crobat with the glitch move. With that you can have both forms of ACE without needing an Emerald copy of the game. What do you think? Is it even possible? Thank you again!
@eLMCe we've definitely talked about finding a path from Mail Glitch ACE to Crobat ACE, but the route isn't solved yet. There's quite a bit of legwork involved in recreating all the Emerald stuff, but I think it can be done!
So when I did this, I got a generic setup to convert moves to pokemon. I did this using an abra that I got through arbitrary code execution, perfect in all stats and (somehow) legal. Here's the route I took to get there. (start) Abra (3 HP EVs) > Venusaur (89 HP Evs) > Muk (Acid Armor) > Mew Using mew it's possible to generate any pokemon through moves so long as you can teach (or glitch) a specific move onto it without breaking the IV's or met location. Thanks for introducing me to this, now I have a brand new playground of content in a 20 year old game.
@@camusthaking1124love to see someone fully grasping the material. Mew is definitely nice as long as your required move is a TM. Smeargle is a similar principle with Sketch, but let's you get some of the more hard-to-learn moves if needed. Don't forget about hidden power types! I've since acquired a few different "test subject" Pokemon with more hidden power types and optimal IVs. There's lots of fun to be had on this playground indeed.
Man I literally just bought a GB operator so I can finally unlock the events. I remember searching for glitches last year and not finding anything. This is awesome
you might have some issues running glitches in the GB operator emulator itself, but you can use the latest mGBA and I know for sure it all works there. Unless you also have a GBA/DS, in which case you're golden. Have fun!
@ hey thanks for the reply I have a GBA-SP and currently shiny hunting mewtwo but once that’s done I was planning on using the GB operator to unlock those events finally
Thanks for the explanation! It's so cool that I've spent almost all my free time during last week messing around with it. I was wondering if I can use experience values from exact levels for any pokemon or move. In order to do so, I've modified my version adding the growth rates to the data and creating a new sheet that shows which pokemon, item and move match with each of those experience values for each rate. I haven't spent much time checking it yet, but I think it could be useful. I've also added to the workshop the level calculation, an extra search field that shows which levels correspond to the value for all exp curves and a table that gets the origin data from the current pokemon. If you're interested, I can share it.
that sounds super helpful! You can join my discord and share your version, I'll add the improvements when I get the chance. Yeah you can use experience to arbitrarily get any Move/Item/Species, as long as its not a glitch move that crashes the game when you swap G->A to move it around.
@@PapaJefeYT Done! You can check it out whenever you want. In fact, all the growth rate stuff started because I was trying to get the M block to look like the following bytes: 0x0000 or 0x0010 0x2180 0xFFFF 0x3FFF 0x0000 0x0000 This is an invalid combination of EVs (you can't reach it through regular EV training), so I had to get creative. Move 0x3FFF is partially stable: I managed to switch it around with 3 moves (the other two were valid low-value moves, I believe they were Pound and Gust). But that's all, when I add a 4th move, the summary becomes unstable. On the other hand, I don't think the move 0xFFFF would be stable, so I think this way is a dead end. I haven't been able to apply the MailGlitch corruption for this so far. I finally managed to do it in a weird way with an ACE and it wasn't easier. But, I want to be able to do it with the MailGlich, so I'll keep trying and looking for other ways.
Finally catching a good video from the source of a glitch Hunter like this is so awesome!!! Good job and great work and content Bro!!! To you and all involved! ❤
I have a problem hitting my seeds. I found a good one with the ten lines, my settings are: sound='mono', l='lr', button='start', select='yes'. When I load the game, I hit start and select at the same time and hold them until I can select my safe file. But every seed I hit, select is checked with "no" instead of "yes". What do I do wrong?
Ohhh that's my bad! I didn't explain what "Select" meant exactly. If your seed has "select=yes" then you want to hold select through the entire boot sequence. that extra button being held through boot up is what slightly shifts the seed. You'd keep it held for the whole cutscene, and then add on the A/Start press and hold at the title screen when the beeps come.
@@PapaJefeYT Just out of curiosity, why exactly does holding Select change things? Did they code the seed selection to manually check if Select is held (and if so, increment it?) or is it more of an indirect effect? This stuff is very interesting to me so I'm just curious.
@@OldDistantHermitit's actually not coded specifically to have an effect. It's a side effect of how they pull the seed from a timer that's constantly running on the CPU. The timer is deterministic, but the CPU handles everything including inputs. Basically by holding the button, you make the CPU do ever so slightly that much more work, and so it changes the output. Sensitive but predictable if you do the right things
@@PapaJefeYT That's really cool. Thanks for the explanation, and love seeing the work you and everyone else is doing shown off in a way that makes sense for everyone :)
Is there a way to get to the more advanced parts of this without the RNG manips? I struggle with the timing due to a skill issue with my hands, and even when practicing on an "easy" manip like Eevee I never even seem to get close (using the bingo sheet method to track I never seem to get ON the sheet)
@@jerematic the absolute easiest way would be to use the "Create a Pokemon from Nothing" code but put in a non-glitch species. Pokemon generated that way are also unencrypted, and would been completely usable with the mail system. Because their TID/SID/PID are all just 0000 0000 Now they will be slightly more difficult to make competitive/legal, because you'll need to use corruption to tweak their IVs/Met Data. However if you just want to play around with the mail glitch, that's the easiest entry point.
@@PapaJefeYT Thank you for replying! So long as any pokemon created this way are able to PalPark to Gen 4 and be used in the battle frontier i don't mind about comp/legal You've done an amazing job with all of this!
Can’t wait to see something along these lines at a GDQ, and watch the runner jump through hoops trying to convince the audience they’re actually playing Pokémon and not doing any glitches.
First off I just want to say, thank you so much for making these. These tutorials are incredible, and are such good breakdowns for the setup process for this stuff. Genuinely revolutionary stuff going on in my childhood pokemon games, and I couldn't be more excited. One question I have though is there any way you can show how to set up Move ACE using grab ACE? I noticed that there are a bunch of Move ACE codes for FR/LG that haven't been converted to grab ACE, and some of them are extremely difficult to port because of the small differences of where things sit in RAM using each method (At PC vs in battle). I don't think anyone has made a tutorial for setting up move ACE from a single game now that we have grab ACE, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't doable now. I just figured that if we can have a resource showing how to set it up from grab ACE then even if some codes aren't able to be ported, we can at least keep the utility, and make them more accessible.
I think it's possible to bootstrap Move ACE from Grab ACE, but it will take some work. It's on my list of things to look into, but I'll likely need help from Sleipnir.
I absolutely have to try this sometime. Did ACE through item underflow in RBY and bad cloning in GSC to get 8F for legal Mew and Celebi egg respectively, so this is exciting for me
I have a feeling you might enjoy locomotives... but seriously youre a wizard i could never focus long enough to do this when i know i can just download a save file from someone who has the pokemon i want
This video has been instructive and enjoyable so far, thank you! Around 42:20, I notice the names of the boxes are being changed for the Fast Clone Glitch. But the prior step taught me the names of the boxes determine the TID & SID, which determine that shiny 6 IV Eevee. So, how does renaming the boxes not affect the TID & SID, and by extension, the would-be cloned Eevee?
@@amoinoacid you only have to change the box names and do the glitch pokemon swap once, and the TID SID change is permanently applied to your save. After that you can enter new codes.
I've loosely followed R/G/B/Y, G/S/C, and R/S/E glitches for several years now, but NEVER would I have thought FR/LG could be cracked open like this! YES! MORE GLITCHES!!! I've always adored Pokemon glitches this RULES
Not always. Encryption key takes in the full PID and the SID and TID combined, so order matters. For example: FFFF0000 xor 0000FFFF would yield an encryption key of FFFFFFFF But for shinies, it only takes each half the PID and the TID/SID separately. FFFF xor 0000 xor 0000 xor FFFF = 0 Which is a square shiny, but would not be unencrypted.
@PapaJefeYT oooooh ok thank you, i was actually about to try this and had gotten to the point of rng maniping the eevee and wouldve wasted a decent amount of time messing with it
this is fucking awesome i love how the wierd anticheat thing of splitting up the pokemon's data and shuffling it around just created more ways to effectively cheat in pokemon without even using external tools as someone who rlly wants to get into coding and game development, getting to see how a games mechanics work internally, and how they can be broken through glitches is always so cool to see

Love how the glitch species is just a soad song
Going through this, it does strike me that there is so much more you can do with the glitches because the developers put so much love (so many mechanics) into the game. Like being able to use the daycare man to directly manipulate the xp, mail, items, tms, static encounters. Like if they don't put enough mechanics, then the manipulation also becomes more grueling and boring.
@@DGice2 yeah its honestly a beautiful accident that all of this works like it does. The mail glitch actually works in Emerald too, but the data doesn't line up the right way to duplicate this method. Instead of falling right at the start of Box 3 Slot 1, it's in the middle of the Pokemons data in Box 2 Slot 27, and any edits you make just brick the pokemon.

Pretty crazy to think we can pretty much do ACE up to Gen 3.
ACE has been possible in Gen 4 for a couple of years now.
RETIRE made a video about it. Tho I don't remember in which Gen 4 games it worked.
I only made a video on DP, but I have found RCE's and transfering ACE for all gen 4 games.
amazingly detailed video, but the biggest 'FU' to me was finding out that these will not be legal until given Pokeblocks which requires trading...
i have both FireRed and Emerald, but only 1 ds lite, no gbas and no link cable... guess i gotta get on that then.

When I calculated everything needed, the code I got is as follows:
"sound = mono, l = lr, button = a, select = yes."
I have been fussing around with this for hours at this point, and while I've gotten plenty of close matches, none have matched what I need 1:1; it's usually the select part of the code that is messed up.

It's amazing the things that Pokemon fans will discover for a glitch. This is incredible
Been following these glitches in gen 3 and it reignited my love for these games (also nice intro with the tower of god soundtrack)

I had just followed your other video on how to get ACE on LG but I was not getting good results with the RNG manip... now with your advices on calibrating the tool and checking the seeds I can see light at end of tunnel! Hope now I can get 6IV Shiny Deoxys as I always wanted since I was a kid!
You can do it! I believe! 💪
@ Nice! Hope you guys find it! I believe! 💪🏻
So when I did this, I got a generic setup to convert moves to pokemon. I did this using an abra that I got through arbitrary code execution, perfect in all stats and (somehow) legal. Here's the route I took to get there.
(start) Abra (3 HP EVs) > Venusaur (89 HP Evs) > Muk (Acid Armor) > Mew
Using mew it's possible to generate any pokemon through moves so long as you can teach (or glitch) a specific move onto it without breaking the IV's or met location.
At some point i was expecting him yo say to answer that we have to talk about parallel universes

@ hey thanks for the reply I have a GBA-SP and currently shiny hunting mewtwo but once that’s done I was planning on using the GB operator to unlock those events finally
The intro of *M A I L* with SV music is lowkey godly 😂
In fact, all the growth rate stuff started because I was trying to get the M block to look like the following bytes:
0x0000 or 0x0010
0x2180
0xFFFF
0x3FFF
0x0000
0x0000
This is an invalid combination of EVs (you can't reach it through regular EV training), so I had to get creative.
Those were the most sane pokemon nicknames I have ever seen you use.
I deleted 50% of my hard drive sectors at random. I call that arbitrary code execution 🔫
Honestly, the title undersells the power of these glitches, wow lmao
Finally catching a good video from the source of a glitch Hunter like this is so awesome!!! Good job and great work and content Bro!!! To you and all involved! ❤
LOL the eevees flying away when you deleted them was funny
For the most time I believed FRLG to be a heaven nearly completely purified from glitches, but these are astounding discoveries!
@PapaJefeYT thanks for the quick response! I will try it later :)
Because their TID/SID/PID are all just 0000 0000
Now they will be slightly more difficult to make competitive/legal, because you'll need to use corruption to tweak their IVs/Met Data.
However if you just want to play around with the mail glitch, that's the easiest entry point.
@@PapaJefeYT Thank you for replying!
So long as any pokemon created this way are able to PalPark to Gen 4 and be used in the battle frontier i don't mind about comp/legal
You've done an amazing job with all of this!
Did ACE through item underflow in RBY and bad cloning in GSC to get 8F for legal Mew and Celebi egg respectively, so this is exciting for me
This whole thing you did here. A work of art.
43:09 its like this guy is glassware left on a bunsen burner you have to use gloves to pick up
I've loosely followed R/G/B/Y, G/S/C, and R/S/E glitches for several years now, but NEVER would I have thought FR/LG could be cracked open like this! YES! MORE GLITCHES!!! I've always adored Pokemon glitches this RULES
thinking about it square shinies would be unencrypted by default right? since square shinies on transfer mons have to xor their pid and tid/sid to 0
Not always. Encryption key takes in the full PID and the SID and TID combined, so order matters.
For example: FFFF0000 xor 0000FFFF would yield an encryption key of FFFFFFFF
But for shinies, it only takes each half the PID and the TID/SID separately.
FFFF xor 0000 xor 0000 xor FFFF = 0
Which is a square shiny, but would not be unencrypted.
@PapaJefeYT oooooh ok thank you, i was actually about to try this and had gotten to the point of rng maniping the eevee and wouldve wasted a decent amount of time messing with it
