Well done! Great video! As Mtham says despite what Jingles says DoY is different to KGV. The ship also has a great history (look it up on Wikipedia). The hydro's pretty useful - it saves you from torps but I often forget it's there too.
Duke is a good ship and you play it well. It isn't the same as the KGV. It has quite good AP that makes it particularly useful against cruisers, and it's HE is solid of course too. Plus it has hydro.

I just love it when Jingles starts to laugh uncontrollably when cruisers, like those in this video, get blown up spectacularly just like the British battlecruisers in the Battle of Jutland. Also, Jingles, my good sir, the Duke of York does have 6 guns at the front, not 7. Please don't ever change, man.
Low-caliber battleships have one advantage though - they tend to be effective cruiser killers because they overpenetrate less often. They struggle against other battleships though, but well, there's always a trade-off.
One good reason to get Duke of York - aside from the hydro and the better pen angles - is the fact that it's one of the relatively few ships that actually existed, and this one even saw and won actual major BB on BB action, which is rare by any standard. So it's historical too.
I quit playing a long time ago, but I got this ship with another one in a bundle when it came out. At the time, Duke of York became my most highly skilled captain. I would often surprise destroyer players by charging undetected at smokescreens, pop hydro, then fire HE right at them. Earned many kills that way.

"Jingles, tell me a joke..." "Pensacola," and then proceeds to have trouble breathing through all the laughter. The only way that cruiser's threatening.
I hear you, I wouldn't buy the Duke of York. A long time ago, before I got "The Mighty Jingles" as a Captain, I got the HMS Hood in a box, I love the ship. My HMS Hood has sunk several Bismarcks, they think I'm an easy kill, my magazines have never detonated.
This makes me so happy. Have the DoY, from a container years ago. I have always used my Jingles Captain on her. Now I know how much he dislikes the ship, it’s going to make me even more happy when I play it 😁😁😁
The Pensacola isn't shit, lol. It has one of the heaviest AP broadsides of any cruiser at tier 6, enough so that it can outduel some battleships if it's angled appropriately and the captain knows where to shoot. Of course, that all goes out the window when you reverse broadside on to a battleship less than 10 km away from you, but if the Pensacola had been kiting away from Dragonfire, he could have ruined Dragonfire's day with his own AP.
It'd be nice if they did a Kurfurst and took the Monarch out of the tech tree and made her a premium then put the KGV and DoY up to T8 with appropriate battleship plating and a bit more accuracy, alongside her contemporaries (N. Carolina, Bismarck etc). Then you could squeeze the R class in at T6 with the QE at t7and you'd have the full set.
The only reason I have a Duke of York is because it was a prize for an event years ago. I used to play it a lot in T7 operations as a Captain XP earner, alongside Scharnhorst and Nelson. Its hydro made it useful in that situation. And Narai had no shortage of cruisers and DDs to shoot at. Don't play it much anymore though, since... many changes to operations. The Hydro was the only thing which made it mildly different from KGV.
Remember that Yamato cheek weaknesses? That spot you can citadel reliably in any other battleships? I found it hard way that my Duke of York cannot pen the Musashi's cheek with AP.
That largely depends on the distance and angle you hit the cheek armor. sometimes what seems like an ideal flat turns out to be angled just enough. Des Moines can reliably citadel Yamato with just 203's when it's close enough. maybe you just fired a moment too soon. My suggestion is to test it with a friend in the training room
@@1stMasterAce It was from 8~6 km at 45 degree from the bow. Had a chance to lob 3 salvos before green Akatsuki finished that Musashi. I think the problem lies in the British BB AP fuse time.

In your situation, either the angle of the cheek was slightly off, or it was just a moment of super bad RNG. A tier 7 battleship against a Musashi is just pain in general.

They were neither up nor down.[2]
Jingles has been gone a bit, so time to update! Nelson is long gone from the premium shop and any other obtainable method for years. However, Rodney was added to crates and will hopefully be added to the premium shop in the foreseeable future.
I would get the Hood just because its history. That and in have an AL caption that came with trained on the hood. I usually go down a Hevey Cruiser line (I like heavy Cruisers) first. I have The Mighty Jingles a my cruiser caption and Cap on the Renon Battle cruiser. Tier 5 and 6 Cruisers are fuel, ammo, citadels, wrapped in duct tape covered in Aluminum foil.
I got DoY for coal, not gold, and got it to sell KGV and move on the tech tree, and also DoY has hydro, KGV doesn't. Oh, and DoY has a special camo too, so I love it :-D
You can't get Nelson... It is removed. And it was for FreeXP.
Santa crates.
Got it in the d day crates along with Rodney, was lucky but very happy and cost me less than 1 tier 6.
Anyone but me get a mild chuckle out of seeing the player in the Pyotr Velikiy on fire? The one from the FFG43 clan.
Look up the history of FFG-43, the USS Thach. She caught fire in 2006 during a drug interdiction operation while attempting to put out a fire onboard a smuggler ship.
No? Just me I guess...
