When you sing "Isn't it just too damn real...?" it sends shivers down me. Your vocal resonance and tone are so dead on with mid seventies Ian Anderson that it is uncanny. Just a wonderful job Jack, as usual. I thought I should comment since I've been enjoying this video for close to a year already!
loved it first time i watched this long ago, now looked through my early "Favorites" during breakfast and yeah, still love it :-) too bad my rendition of it never got to the tube, wasn't very interesting.. one day!
Just listened to this in the car on my way home (off the Acoustic Best compilation). You... N..A..I..L..E..D....I..T..vocals and all.. We are not worthy...not worthy...not worthy.
Very good Jack. I hadn't seen this one before tonight. RUclips is a great place to share what you do and to see and enjoy each others' work and I, for one, am glad that you share yours.
Thanks Mark (or Jack). Like SilverHamer, this is one of my favorite Anderson songs, along with Dun Ringill which you also do excellently! Thanks for posting and keep up the good work. And you really do look a lot like Ian.
As the righteous half passed tonight's two o'clock I suddenly noticed how relaxed I went through your entire video. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this. It's got a very campfireish, friendly atmosphere to it. The fact that you're not trying too hard makes it all the more believable for us mere mortals. Great stuff!
It says Fender DG 122 inside... I had not purchased a new guitar since I was seventeen, so four years ago I went to a nearby Guitar Center and found this, which matched my kitchen table. I think that was really about it, plus it had a cutaway neck! Thank you for watching!
Jack, this is awesome! Has anyone ever mentioned to you that your voice has the same tone register as Ian's does on this song? It's just too damn real, man! Loved this vid by the way. LC
This is one of my favorite IA with his acoustic guitar songs. You do it great justice...and I'm quite sure that somewhere back there between page 3 and 4 of these comments that I have already posted this thought...but YOU KICK ASS!!! LOL. Love this tune, Jack! LC
Thanks so much for playing both songs. I've actually written a separate set of lyrics to go with this music but, of course, playing the music (especially on guitar since I don't) is a nasty obstacle. REQUEST: Could you play this again, but with the camera on your left hand? Also, as a nitpick, the chord that goes with "waiter on skates" (throughout the song) doesn't sound quite right. Nevertheless, thank you so much for doing this!
Sorry, I'm at Secundillo's house and I forgot to mention who I was! By the way, I HAD bought many used guitars, just never a factory-new one. I use it the most because the frets aren't worn! Thanks again - jhicko.
I know you are a fan of Tull, I appreciate that, but why do other fans put you down? you have your own style and voice which are uncanny at times. To the complainers that say you are no Ian, I say let your own voice and talent speak rather than your complaints. Good Job and a bravo from me to you
Ian's vocals were at their best when he originally recorded this song back in 1975. Sadly, he's lost his vocal tone and range through the years. You've captured that deep rich tone he used to have. MORE. WE WANT MORE. Try the acoustic opening of COLD WIND TO VALHALLA.
I'm the same man. I do this one on my channel. I play it my way. If they want a perfect copy, why not listen to the album. I prefer to hear a musician interpretation than a copy. More 'soul' and less 'lesson in copying'.
PS...hey Jack is it possible to find a different location for your cam so that the mic isn't blocking the view of your face? If the cam was moved left or right only a foot it would make a big difference. Just offering up a suggestion...LC
Ian Anderson would NEVER sing this song like that! :P I think your strumming is backward...you should sweep from the bottom to the top, not from the top to the bottom...C'MON! Anderson would NEVER do that! And you really should be playing this song on a Martin O series to capture that genuine Anderson tone. Your beard needs to be longer as well for this era of Tull...but apart from all the above, I think you pretty well nailed this song perfectly...LOL. YOU DID IT AGAIN, JACK! Keep it up.
Hi, a comment was left on my video of A SONG FOR JEFFREY by a viewer who writes "good playing, but you need an original voice... you sound too much like Ian Anderson". Thank you for watching, writing, and understanding that I worked very hard on that Ian voice for 35 years.
Even Tull doesn't sound like Tull anymore - and, you sound more like Tull when Tull DID sound like Tull. Ian's 'change-ups' pf the last 10 years either show that he is no longer as he once was or he is bored. Perfection cannot be improved upon - but it can be interpreted - and you interpret well.
Just remember that is is just a tribute, and nothing more, a good job yes, but honestly even to this day is nowhere near Ian Anderson's vocal range, yes he has off days on tour, and is forgiven for not sounding like he was in his prime, but embarrassing never!!!!!! non the less a very good rendition .
Voice is great, timing is not. In 3/4 time.... "There's a haze on the sky li-yine (1 2 3 1)To wish meeeeee - on my way (2 3 1 2 3 1 2 and there's a note on the telephone 1 2 3 some roses on a tray
I was fortunate enough to see the Minstrel Tour back in the 70's...love this song....once again, incredible job

Excellent! Its one of my favorite Jethol Tull songs.

Great stuff!
Wow mate great technique and love the voice just wow and what a wonderful version of a great classic Tull song
Eccezionale naturalezza, precisione ed energia!!! Musicista d'eccezione!!!
this is one of my favorites, like what your doing.
Ian reached his apogee with this song (and album). Excellent interpretation. Well done.
Wonderful interpretation...beautifully done. Thank you.

Oh my God . . .
your voice, the playing.. and .. your face!!
I honestly thought this was a video of Ian himself for a few seconds
Wow dude...that was good for the soul
It's obvious how much you love this material. Haters be damned.

Request from Sweden: please can you record and post Wondrin' aloud for me. It would be so nice to hear you play that song.
i love the sound of the guitar, what is it? great job

@marksecunda Rock on. I thought your interpretation was well presented, except for the mic.
