The Thrones of Delay are finally coming to an end.
it was a khorney pun
They worken on more content that's better for us stop complaining
The split of the DLC into each race is an unexpected, but very welcome change. It seems unexpectedly consumer friendly
Don't let it distract you from the fact that they are still charging the same $25 price for the DLC after the pre-order discount. Even with the pre-order discount, it's still $4 more expensive than brand new race packs used to be that came with 4 lords, an entirely new roster + set of faction mechanics and a map expansion.
@@azeon562 That is unfortunate, but honestly I'm way too tired of shit life's giving me to make another ruckus out of it. It's how business works, and if we don't like it we'll have to vote with our wallet to tell our story to the marketing teams. Like Legend says, we can't have it all. Personally, I think I'll start with buying the Empire part of the deal, because that's the faction I'm most interested in (provided the expansion is any good of course) and honestly I really appreciate the option to buy the DLC in parts.
In one way yes, but it's still the same overall price. What they are saying is we know you can't afford to spend this much in one go, but now you can just pay for it over three months instead
They should do it with Shadows of Change as I was only interested in Tzeentch content. With Thrones of Decay I am interested in all 3 factions so unlucky..
It's not consumer friendly. At TWWH2 times you could get all content for 10-15$. Now CA «generously» offer you to buy third of content for 10$
I'm willing to bet the last dlc of TWW is Nagash and the End Times.
Also, super hyped about Tamurkhan!!!
The next next DLC is Khorne focused, if that is truly the last then we will never gain Nagash because sodomite baby blood drinking devs let Workshop do that for them.
iirc the games were released in inverse chronological order so we already have the end times, it's wh1. Weird decision honeslty, but I guess they may not have planned to do a trilogy initially?
for sure they'd be missing out on easy cash if they never do Nagash. There"s a great mod at least for wh2 that did a pretty dang good job at it

Good news. My main concern is about Empire update, and its extent. They need overhaul of old content in addition to new units. Technology tree, skill trees, faction mechanics…
make them a fun faction to play.....................
I am not too hopeful for extensive or even meaningful changes to existing content. Tzeentch's tech tree and Kairos skills had very insignificant and frankly bad changes with Shadows of Change.
@@zeb857They are fun... only with Karl. The EC mechanics doesn't work with the others (immersive breaking).
@@GermanOlle Only 1 other lord has the elector counts mechanic, the other two have their own mechanics.
So true... they should make a crusader paladins unit. It should have some flavor text like "cleansing the realm of disgusting and low intelligence heretics". It should then be the most powerful infantry in the game.
They should introduce Toddy like they did Boris Ursus as a campaign incentive for finishing a campaign as an empire faction.
There has actually been a leak pointing in that direction ..
Wasn’t he the reward for doing a Khazrak campaign back in Warhammer 1?
Red Duke too. Wouldn’t be that hard.
I always assumed the WWI game would basically be a glorified playtest of the engine updates needed to make 40k TW happen. Weird if it turns out the WWI game is released later, and maybe even a sign that Sega wants it treated as an actual game in its own right, rather than a beta-test.

Thrones of Delay may not lead to the Decay of Warhammer 3. Not completely sold on their pricing idea(no pun intended), but the idea of being able to purchase the races separately is a really good idea to allow people to get what they want and not what they don't.
I think the break-up of their major DLC's is one of the best decisions they ever made, it's too bad they paired it with the massive price increase of all of them across the board. Legend said it here, $9 used to be the price of a duo-lord pack, now they're offering us 1 for the same price and expecting us to say thank you.
@@azeon562 Exactly, the idea is good but the execution is not. I'm not sold on the price side of the idea, hence why I said I'm not completely sold, we're getting one lord for the same price of two lords for the previous games. That's my real issue with this. It's a good start, but we're not quite there yet.
@@azeon562 To be honest you're getting more stuff for that one lord/faction than before. It used to be just maybe 5 units and that's it. That + inflation and I'd say it's not too bad. As long as the content is actually good in quality too, not only quantity.
@@azeon562I did the numbers and it goes something like this(including lords and heroes) :
Before:
12 units for 9 dollars
6 per faction
now: 28 units for 23 dollars
9 units per faction, costing 9 if bought separeted
If you buy the whole pack then you DO get value, if not you kinda get screwed. Even with the posterior 15% discount from steam
@@kubka4 You should stop defending multi-million $ corpos who are trying to use inflation as a shield to justify price increases. CA earns more money every year despite rising inflation, and if their bottom line ever actually gets hit they issue massive lay-offs like the one Legend recently talked about to keep trending up. They also offer similar pay for their positions as they did 5 years ago, so aside from staffing increases (which were working on other projects anyway) and higher executive bonuses they're not paying much more to make WH3 vs WH2.
Couple that with the fact that 80% of the new DLC will be using existing factions with already made assets and no new map update means that the new DLC is not 20% more expensive to make than the old race packs were, despite them charging you 20% more. Their numbers don't add up,.
Now I don't have to corrupt my hard drive with Nurgle or manlings
I just want a Medieval 3 Total War where you get standalone expansions for different parts of the world that can be eventually combined into a large world map like with Mortal Empires.
I would love that too but this is the 2024, not 2004...
MK1212
Empires Darth Mod
I think Miedieval 3 is gonna suck ass with the new engine. Imo the way they do battles in the newer games is really trash, it's just not satisfying to watch battles, unless they fix that, Medieval 3 is gonna suck.
I am a little concerned about totalww1 just because I feel like that conflict is a little too railroaded. Ideally I'd prefer to see a game like that span from 1848 so events like the Crimean war and Italian and German wars of unification can play out, and allow you to diverge a little from the history, set up alternate alliances and give more opportunities to tip the scales, which would help allieviate my concern that every time you play it could feel pretty much the same
Honestly pretty surprising to hear that 40k is coming before WW1. Seems like it would make more sense to develop out the systems required for that kind of ranged combat with smaller titles before attempting something as ambitious as 40k.
40K is gonna mostly attract only 40K players while WW1 will probably attract more people so I think they want to perfect WW1 by learning from 40K. Some 40K players are already interested in history anyways so they'll buy the WW1 game regardless. Either that, or they want to make sure they can milk 40K Warhammer fans since if they release the WW1 game first and it sucked, no one will buy their 40K game.
@@adambrandei think you are vastly underestimating how popular 40k is.
@@adambrande WH2 was by far CA's most successful product despite the licensing fees. 40K has a much larger fanbase than WH Fantasy, which was a dead franchise until CA re-popularized it.
@@adambrandeWhen it comes to historical wars and their popularity, WW1 is just as niche as any other setting for any other TW game, and (as others have said) when it comes to WH settings, 40K is FAR more popular than Fantasy. No imperial guard as a staring faction in 40K???? This is heresy
they were not gonna have no space marines and having 2 out of 3 factions allied would kinda suck
Empire 2 set from 1800 to 1920 would be neat IMO, and quite literally a sequel to Empire which was set from 1700 to1800.
I will admit after reading this I feel kinda optimistic. I know there are factions that I enjoy quite a bit more than others, so if in the future this pricing model with the smaller packs takes off, it'll make me happy to just get the stuff I know I'll get good use from.
Still holding out hope that one of the next two DLCs addresses my poor lizard bois and their geomantic web 😭
Totally agree and love your talk about the price of the individual lords, about give and take.
Another Person was basically crying about how it was not WH2 pricing.
when they say Chaos and Space Marines for 40K that can be so many factions, when looking to 40K Table Top, for Chaos there are the Prime Chaos Space Marine aka the Black Legion, the Thousand Sons, the world Eaters and the Death Guard, and the 5 others for the Imperial Space Marines there are so many Dark Angels, White Scars, Space Wolves, Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, Iron Hands, Ultramarines, Salamanders, Raven Guard which from the Base Spac Marines a small alterations and they can make so many of these factions it makes perfect sense
vanilla, all vanilla, generic ultramarine captain (because who would pay for ultramarines as a dlc!) versus generic chaos marine captain versus generic ork nob
@@sumoking3002 or we'll just get the most known and bought miniatures as factions, with no mechanics whatsoever and then we'll get the more niche chapters with cool mechanics, cause 'fuck you'
Yeah most of the successor chapters just exist for alternate paint schemes. Only a few are distinct enough from their parent legion to get their own rules. Black Templars (who's gene connection to the Imperial Fists is questionable) are a good example of a second founding chapter who got their own rules.
@@mr_clean91 yeah the Black Templars i can see as one of the further DLC packs, but the point is, as wit the Empire in Warhammer it is a very easy way for them to have multiple factions in the game from the start isn't it. and they just change the colour scheme of them
They'll have a really hard time selling any space marine dlc factions imo.
It's nothing a modder won't have done a better job on by the time it's out. Considering they're just a recolour with a bonus with meltas/whatever there isn't much to sell.
Races are a different story, and probably €30+
Thanks for the post. I, too, think that what CA is doing currently is in the right direction and I think it's good that we give them the benefit to wait and see what they produce. It's also good that you remind people that the old prices are long gone, nothing is as cheap as it was even a few years ago, IP included. So, thanks for the info and thanks for trying to keep it impartial and supportive.
8:49 the end-WHAT???? NAGASH?????
we surpass nagash!
8:50 LOL! Thanks for not spoiling it. What a legend xD
Also, I don't mind 40k. It's all about if its fun or not. I'm scared because total war games aren't that great for 90% range battles with futuristic weapons, and CA has been horrible at innovating and making creative advancements to the real time strategy scene. So the trust is 0. But hey, if they do make a good game, they can restart the franchise again, and I'm all up for it. 0 hopes though. Also, adapting the 40k setting, that is even more crazy and wild than War Hammer fantasy is going to be harsh, unless they completely change the setting. How are they going to deal with the power and unit size dynamic unless they completely nerf everything?
Honestly the splitting idea was perfect. Lets them keep their price point without seeming so heavy handed and gives the players a better chance to try before you buy (the rest of it.) Impressed they took an amicable path out of that one.
Great discussion as always, Legend. Nice to see you have a reason to be cautiously optimistic. Hope it all pans out, for all our sake!
I'm excited for 40k, fwiw.
i will wait and see, my expectations are not high
I just want to mention: the backlash over the last DLC worked. I'm not anti capitalism, let companies make money, but also demand them to respect their client base and work hard to bring us a good product. This is a very welcome change.
I feel sad for how the franchise is ending. Warhammer 2 was one of the most solid games CA had has at the end of its lifetime. Warhammer 3 only had to keep a strong fundations and make content has the have been doing for years. Instead we get a game with huge problems in his campaing and new game modes ( sieges, soul princes battles, Realm of Chaos...) and a ton of bad decisions with the increased of dlcs prices or the streak untill the released of Immortal empires. And it's a shame because the franchise still had a lot of potential. Miltiplayer campaing, improvements with the IA, best end of campaing scenarios... Now we are getting half of the content of the previous dlc for the same price and we are almost content. It's a pitty.
WH3 has been a blast that entertained me for 1,000 hours.
It makes me sad thinking about the coming end of warhammer fantasy. I've been playing this series since it first began and it's hard imagining starting over with 40k. I like 40k and I am actually kinda excited to play it, but it's going to take a while before we can build up enough playable factions for it to hit the same level as how fantasy is today. I'm going to choose to stay hopeful about it for now and keep to happy thoughts of running over the blueberry boyscouts in a rukkatrukk squigbuggy or doing zerg rush tactics with tyranids. But until it comes out, I still have like 60 legendary lords I haven't tried yet in fantasy.
It seems insane for GW to tie the hands of the Devs responsible for one of if not the most successful Warhammer game ever. Just let the devs cook, sheesh
GW is likely already cosidering how to make a videogame about their "new ip" Old World and doesn't want CA coloring outside the lines. Got to remember, as much as CA has been hated on... GW is historically a MUCH scummier company than CA.
Was hoping youd say "saving your disaster company"
Good job and great methodology Legend! You are spot on with the next historical game and with the dates. Just to add, the historical game was in a great trouble, his director resigned exactly a year ago, so the delay may save them.
I love the "Throne of delay" at the beggining...
"the current intent is to avoid creating something quite so big in scope so that we can help to keep both the value, and the price right for you." TL: We're making sure we won't give you too much value for your money lol.
turning 1 dlc into 3 to try and justify the price is madness and people will buy into it
(tbf it is better than paying 25$ for a dlc but the problem still is in the full price dlc)
I'd rather have 25-40$ DLCs over abandoned game like 3K, ToB, Pharao and etc.
Problem with 3 lord dlcs is they try to cram too much garbage that's untested or makes no sense to justify the price.
Kislev is legit a monster faction now.
Who cooked the hex system for ostyanka?
So smaller more well designed dlc packs that are released more frequently are infinitely more attractive to me than some lump of content they squirt out maybe twice a year if we are lucky that only tries to appeal to people by making everything OP as heck.
@@loowick4074 that part is on CA, they could have done it other way, yet they did not
@@Booklat1 Nobody is trying to justify the price by that... The price stays if you like it or not, but they tried to make it more consumer-friendly for people who can't spend those full 25 dollars or just don't care about some faction. Nowhere in the post did they mention something like "Look, it's 3 DLCs for the price of 1!" type of nonsense you talk about. This is just trying to fish for things to complain about at this point...
I'm really worried about those next games the Total War formula right now is not very good for those settings, I really hope WW1 and 40K mean a new engine is in the works. Warscape does not fit those settings... How can you represent what was basically a 4 year long unending battle spanning hundreds of km when all you can do is have a couple armies marching around the whole of France ? And on the battle side of things, it's the same problem, WW1 or 40k are not line battles with lines of infantry standing still and shooting at each other. And just making formations a bit more loose does not cut it, esp. for 40k, space marines do not operate by groups of 120...
They need a new engine, something which allows players/units to utilize the landscape, terrain, garrison broken buildings for cover, etc. The current use of landscape in Total War is nonexistent. Oh, I'm on an elevated hill....slight nonessential buff, great. Oh, I'm in a forest, slight nonessential buff/debuff, great... Hell, half their landscape you can't even move around because of all the invisible barriers. New engine is required. Use of landscape to form strategy.
Thanks for the update!
Would be looking forward to a TW40k.

If they do a Trilogy, I'd love to see Heresy, then Scouring, then 40th millenia. Get all the primarchs and the Siege, forming of the Codex Astartes and rebuilding of the Imperium, then the necrons and tyranids.
I could see them basing all of it in the current setting, though. Just for continuity, faction roster, and to keep the narrative concise and workable

It'll probably be more soulless spess mareen slop.
@@RIPFerrus Not vanilla Eldar? I'd love a curveball in the form of Tyranids & Necrons.
If CA cook a good rework of the dwarf and the empire, I will buy the whole package. If not, I will buy only for Tamurkhan.
This is a pretty consumer-friendly pricing model. What we had before was like how cable channels are bundled together but you never watch most of them.
Our hopes, farfetched as they were, for anything but more chaos DLCs are officially dashed
Hmm, I was complaining earlier that it still wasn't a good deal "because you have to pay almost half the price of the basegame for three army additions which isn't equal to half the content of the basegame and maybe you only want one or two of the faction additions". It seems that they've seen the light and decided to do something about that. This finally eliminates a gripe I've had with their DLC practices, so good on them.
Anyway, there's some glaringly obvious additional content they can do with The Empire (lots of it, in fact) and the Dwarfs needed additions for a while, so it's welcome that they are included in the next DLC. It's a bit underwhelming if it's only Elspeth von Draken, but Elspeth makes sense if the Nurgle side includes Tamurkhan.
...............Also no way did you just casually hint at the "end times" and casually drop a "40K is indeed coming" and "WW1 is seemingly being developed". Holy moly.
Not sure if the '4 more dlc' thing was before or after the smaller dlc change. But they had stuck with their original roadmap of the 4 chaos gods, that would've ended up being 6 lords after this one. That is 3 more traditional 2 lord lord packs. Add in the end times dlc and thats 4 more dlcs. That sounds like something they would've planned, especially if they have ran out of GW coupons
It would've also lined up with the historical title and potentially 40k shortly after.

Which would be awesome, and logically it must be that, nothing else makes sense lorewise tbh.
But with 3-4 DLCs between ToD and N+T at the end, we still can have a significant quantity of content to come within 2years… we’ll see but I have a good feeling perso.
World War I would be very interesting, ya got calvary, tanks, zeppelins, planes, armored infantry, line infantry, weapons teams, artillery galore, shock troops, and probably a few other things. They basically tested everything to see what didn’t immediately get too many bullet holes.
It’ll be a good way to test things, as it was dynamic, then static then dynamic again.
40k will be interesting too. I expect unit numbers in game to be like oops all aspiring champions. Since I don’t see having 60 space marines in a unit compared to 600 guardsmen in a unit.
I can't imagine WWI game in TW setting...
For real, Trench Simulator, the game?
@@shorewall manoeuvre warfare happened in WW1, especially as it dragged on, it wasn't all strictly deadlocked trench warfare. which makes it even harder to imagine the TW formula in a manoeuvre warfare setting...
Same with 40k, how is either of those to work with TW setting??
I don't find it that hard to imagine. It'll probably look something similar to two gunpowder stacks fighting each other but with additional projecting blocking modifiers so they don't instantly kill each other.
Even real life soldiers move around in groups like warhammer cards.. with some units suppressing and pinning down targets so another unit can flank them. In the Army, most basic combat drill is battle drill 1A that does exactly that.
@@MajorDryhole A good 40k Total War will need a new engine. I don't think they can pull that off with this shitty spaghetti ending.
Epidemius seems strange as a LL choice, given they just made the Tzeentch equivalent, the Scribes, into LHs. It seems the hearalds were originally meant as FLC for each Monogod, then degraded as heroes when CA decided to cut the developement of WH3, and now it seems they changed their mind again. With this way tho Tzeentch god the shortes end of the stick.
There was a reply from CA in the comments saying that the 22.92 was the 'final' bundle price at least.
Legend bringing up people with their Karl Franz campaigns, it made me think of how I’m now at the cusp of a thousand hours and atleast 600 of those are dwarf playthroughs lmao
I am a Karl Franz enjoyer and I cannot lie. The allure of greatswords and handgunners is too much for me
If we get Nuln Ironsides in the dlc you'll get heavy armor handgunners, best of both worlds!
So dlc is still 25 dollars ie price of entire game on discount and we should be really happy because now we can pay it 2 times in lower amounts?
Yeeeeah no. I've not bought any DLC since champions of chaos. £20 for a single DLC is a ripoff and I don't see the prices coming down.
25 is like 2 hours of work, even 30 mins if you work hard . . .

Legend calling me out right at the start
I got introduced to warhammer from total war, currently I couldn’t care less for 40k but I’m not mad at it either
Same, I didn't buy into it until warhammer 2 was announced.
I eventually got sucked into the lore, and I enjoyed it. But I struggle to get interested in 40k. If they make a solid game, it might help me cross that bridge.
Why do they need to be so definite about closing the door to the series? I'd buy DLC that was released after 40k comes out
Given it's already been talked/rumoured since last year, the WW1 game is the brainchild of the incompetent management who Legend calls out.
It just seems like a very bad idea. There's no demand for a game set in that period, and a lot of demand for historical games set in other periods. That's going to create some resentment amongst the player base right out of the gate.
ww1 was on the lips of fans since shogun 2 mods, so there is a demand, but very weak.
Like, who needs ww1 right next to 40k lol, no1.
Here’s the inconsistency I’m seeing: if the leaks are delayed until at least 2025, they have almost 2 years to fill with content and make money…
So they can’t physically keep the lights on with only 2 more dlcs
As an Empire Enjoyer, I resemble that remark.
still overpriced for the amount of content delivered. DLC is not expensive to make, its no where near the cost of making a new game. The DLC train by companies like paradox and CA are pricing me out of the market. Despite a love of strat games I feel like I can only stay up to date with one or 2 games... I just cant justify more money, because you know.. costs are up (food, bills etc)
I honestly think if both these companies lowered their prices, bundled their DLCs, provided a subscription to get(and keep) all DLC of all their games their profits would go up, not down - at the very least their profits would not go down because it costs nothing to produce 1 more copy of a digital product.
I look forward to total war warhammer coming to an end - hopefully CA will do the decent thing and open up serious mod controls and let us modders carry on.
Empire faction is incredibly underdeveloped compared to factions from the later games, people who only play them boggle my mind.
most played faction
Even when TW:W1 first launched, I found them to be the least interesting faction; over time, they've gotten even more bland compared with everyone else. I think I've played, at most, maybe five or six Empire campaigns in the nearly 2000 hours I've got across the three games.
@@jeffreymilliman2306yeah I kinda defaulted to dwarfs as my "human" faction.
Leadership asleep at the wheel and being replaced really fits the DLC title "Thrones of Decay"
40k and ww1 make sense together. Theyre basically the same tactics other than the melee heavy lists
40K sounds cool, but I have no idea how they are going to make it work with the current engine they are using.
The prideflag at the avatar in the beginning, why are they like this?
Spilitting DLC is definitely a good idea, idk how good it'd turn out but that'd be a start. Still the DLC price is still quite hefty, $25 for 3 LL seems like the standard now. I hope the roster update is substantial as the race reworks would be free for all.
So the last one is bringing "end times" huh? The way he said it ;)
I’ve just played my 51st Karl campaign I think
Gotta pump those numbers
Yeah, still not trusting CA again.
Got me pegged. I have played several Karl Franz campaigns. It's just recently that I've started branching out to a Vlad campaign.
Nuuuuuurgle
I'm so pumped for 40k!
an end times dlc sounds like an absolute blast
