Your story is very inspiring, thanks for sharing. I think something I'd love to pick your brain about would be how you trust your gut and make decisions quickly when you have huge projects that you need to turn around in 3 days. If you already have a video like that would you mind linking which one.
      Thanks so much!

Very nice man, there is no problem with being proud of your achievements! Kind of inspiring actually. You appeared to me in a design spiral that I am having, I am thinking about putting my drawings as t-shirts, and you kind of gave me good feeling about it.

Thanks!! 🙌 Teenage Brent would definitely be losing his crap if he knew haha. Showing off some killed designs could be a fun idea! Would have to dig up some super old stuff since I've had clients come back a year later to approve something. 😅

With coming up with so many designs in a few days how do you avoid burnout? I'm aiming to design merch too and watching your videos is really galvanising.

That's so awesome to hear! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. For me, I really love designing merch, so it takes a lot for me to be burnt out on the actual act of designing. On one hand, I can't afford to be burnt out. So even if I feel burnt out and my back is against the wall, I have to push through it. My family and livelihood depend on it. Having a balanced day helps a ton. I (try to) stop working at a specific time each day and spend that time away from the computer - doing anything to take my mind off of work. Recently I've loved learning new things that aren't related to design. Things that involve work around the house, baking, writing, reading fiction, etc. Doing things that aren't related to design gives my brain a break, and helps keep me excited to create even more the next day.

I know it was a long time since you uploaded this video. But I have a dream to start make merchandise for contentcreators and especially streamers, youtubers but also for musicians. I have beginner knowledge in photoshop, illustrator but alot more in other free programs that I used before I decided to get more serious with my dream. I have also been drawing art for my entire life.. Really inspiring video and journey!
My question is if you started today would you do it the same way or would you do a different route as things may have changed over the years?
I also curious about what would be the best route help to manage peoples stores / set them up through a site like spreadshirt for example or just do the designs like you did for them to upload/use?
And the third question, to get the right foundation to run everything in a good way. What would be your top 5 tips to get going and make the dream a reality / fulltime job?
I totally understand if you dont have time to answer but would appreciate it alot as I really want to stop dreaming and start making actual progress. Amazing video and I will look through your entire channel as I like your vibe! Much love!

This is so awesome to hear! The only thing that's really changed is how powerful social media has become. The best thing you can do right now is create as much work as possible and share it online to grow an audience and start building connections. Specifically for creators and streamers, you can open that door quickly just by creating fan-made designs that resonate with their audience. If you can do that, most creators would love to connect and either purchase your design or pay you to create something official. Tapping into the music industry is a lot harder, but doing the same is a great way to get your foot in the door. The important part is that you're building a body of work, so when your dream clients notice you, they see you're a go-to person for merch design, and it increases your chances of getting hired.
The best route would be to create designs for people, then let them handle the printing and distribution. It's far too complicated to handle the technical, financial, and customer support side of things for clients. You should focus on just the design aspect of things.
If you want to find consistent work in merch, then you'll want to connect with art directors at merch companies. Large creators and musicians have managers who work with merch companies to create and fulfill their merch. So you want to connect with those merch companies because they're the ones hiring freelancers for designs.
My top tips are to get a portfolio online solely focused on merch design, create as much work for your ideal clients, and share it online. Then once you have a solid body of work, begin reaching out and connecting with art directors at merch companies. You can also introduce yourself to your ideal creators and let them know exactly what it is you do and how your work can benefit them. Another tip is, communication, transparency, and how you brand yourself is everything. It's tough to get into this and connect with the right people if you're not putting your true self online or branding yourself professionally.
Hope this helps, and best of luck with everything!!
