That is a thing of beauty. Thanks for sharing how you lube your chain. Can you share what is your process for degreasing and relubricating. Do you just go through the same process again? How often? I am assuming at the watts you put out you probably go through chains fairly quickly.

Superb choice Shane! Just built mine up in a 54 with GRX Di2. Had a Diverge briefly but that felt sluggish in comparison.
The Aspero low BB height and low stack make it wickedly fast and planted.
Agree re the open moulds, also their geo’s are dodgy, very cyclocross like.

Proof that being a like-able sort is important. Looks like it is going to be great. I recently received a Lynskey PRO GR with GRX Di2 2x. I had to wait for it and now waiting for a set of road wheels to go with the I9 GRCX gravel wheels. BTW I'm running the 11-40 cassette with no problems with the 2x up front. I'm old so I need all that gearing.

Nice build. Fyi, the KOM cycling sealant syringe has a 2 part tube so you put the 2nd part on after you fill the syringe so that sealant isn't on the outside when you put it in the valve stem, which prevents your valves from getting clogged with sealant as easily. Definitely still works either way but may be helpful tip for the future.

Next tip: a set of 650b wheels. They'll be slower than the 303 wheels on tarmac and smooth gravel, but will really get going when the going gets tough. I have a 700c set with 38mm tires and a 650b set (30 mm internal width) with 47mm WTB Senderos and both definitely see lots of use and abuse. :)

His charts about what brand is good and what brand isn't seem pretty bad to me. Based on the fact that his sample size is incredibly small and he only gets bad frames, that will skew the results quite a bit. And that is not even mentioning his way of presentation. Even if he does have a point sometimes his behaviour still makes me less likely to actually listen to these points.

@Jay Ar Companies like Cervelo and most other major manufacturers aren't sourcing open mold bikes, they design them to their own specs, own molds, own QA, etc. I have nothing against buying direct from China, have a couple of sets of wheels, but really not the same thing at all when you're talking bikes, certainly there are some smaller companies out there passing off open mold bikes as their own, but the big guys aren't doing that.

And going back further how the elite drivo failed, though is still going strong and live in hope for a firmware update to fix power consistency and magnetic resistance that at times pre ride goes to Max resistance.

  • @hptator
    @hptator 3 года назад

I love the transmision! I was looking into something similar but I'd go for a 46t chainring and 50/10t cassette:
    46/50=0.92
    46/10 = 4.6
    34/32=1.0625
    50/11=4.5454
Higher gear: slightly higher than a compact
Lower gear: lower than a compact with a 36 sprocket
Perfect for gravel, good enough for the road
I'm currently using a 44t with 10/42 (11 speed). On gravel I miss a lower gear or two, on the road, not so badly but I miss a higher gear.
    What do you think?

@@gplama I have a BMC road machine which is 8.2kg and has tyre clearance for 32mm maybe. I can do good gravel on 28mm tire. The Aspero has more possibilities and the geometry seems aero enough. I live in the Basque Country, trail are mountains..

Shane, thanks for this video that came at the right moment because I am in the process of getting a gravel bike. I found an Aspero frame at a local store and I may copy your configuration. My question/doubt is related to electronic shifting components. I will use this bike mainly for short bikepacking touring, how reliable are this system outdoors? I am a little concern? if you know do you recommend a mechanical groupset ?. Thanks so much Shane love your channel!

Seriously, just use a wax bath. Today I remembered I hadn't rewaxed at on my usual weekly time (broken collar bone...). Had a zwift ride in 50 mins. Turned on the wax bath, then chain off, rewaxed and ready to go 20 mins before the ride including the usual zwift prep of find/fill my Bidons, socks, and get a coffee. All while nursing a broken collar bone.
