    Back around 1970 (I was 13) I heard Traffic doing "John Barley Corn Must Die" on the radio. I grew up in the 60's listening to mom and dads collection of folk music but had no idea that lots of that was from England (also I loved folk played in a minor scale).By 1978 I probably had most of Sleeleye Spans LP's. About a year ago I was looking for a fan video of "Starless" by King Crimson.I ran across Starless By the Unthanks thinking 'must be a goth band....I'll give it a listen'.Been listening intently since :-)

    Gorgeous vocals on "So To Speak" by Sting, Totally cool Ladies of the Tradition, walking in the steps of Ewan Mac Coll and Ralph Mc Tell, Halleluia.

    I think your dress as you perform evoke and help take us back to a time when the songs you sing were more popular or maybe back before even radio. Plus I suspect you sister both possess old souls

    Your upbringing (_their_ upbringing- you know what I mean!) sounds a lot like mine! I've been going to folk festivals for longer than I can remember too! I can remember at my local festival- the year I got a pomotion from head chair shifter, (two or three times a day- from concert to ceilidh to workshop etc) to trainee arm band checker... I got a strange pang of instant nostalgia, pride and jealousy when I snuck in to see the new head(_there was only ever one._ Hehehe) chair shifter. Aaahh~
    :)
    Didn't know Rachel was married!.. Bugger.
    :D
    =EDIT=
    Forgot to say-
    This Paul Morley guy seems a bit... Don't know. Well, dunno how to say it nicely, so; I wont.

    that was a mistake :)
    english folk music does get ignored because most peoples image of the english is posh victorians
    not exactly the case

    She supposed to sing a little flat. In music it's called anotating.

    Love the King Crimson cover. Wonderful. Cute funny English accents. Good stuff team. I play in a band with my twin brother. So familial bands always please me in some way. :)

    @pwpurnell I disagree, and think he was giving them a lot of respect in a serious interview, and they seemed to be pleased with the way it was going throughout. Paul Morley isn't interested in mainstream culture, but in interesting and exciting new acts.

  • @mckendrick4046
    @mckendrick4046 14 лет назад +1

    @LstCowboy What's to admit? It's called 'anotating'.

  • @mrdog66
    @mrdog66 14 лет назад +2

    Well she does sing a little flat, but it does not bother me, it kind of adds to the color of the music.
    I love Jackie Mclean and he use to have this tendency to play sharp. Did not bother me at all.
