- WASP being interviewed by Daniel Richler in advance of their January 1985 show at the Concert Hall in Toronto, with Armored Saint and Metallica
Chris can never get a word in. Same in every interview with the two of them.
Yeah, Never bring yer gal to an interview.. Gab, gab, gab..
Chris was too trashed eieith
Yeah..Blackie was an ego maniac. I've read interviews with Chris where he talked about being bullied and emotionally abused by Blackie over the years.
Lawless was the spokesperson of the band
@@dylanfagan5161 and yet blackie paid for chris's rehab twice only to have chris blow it and fuck him over
Man, those two are Blind in Toronto.
Many thanks!!! More W.A.S.P. please, if you have!!!!
OOH YESS I DO LOVE THIS PERFECT BLACKIE EXACTLY PERFECT THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!...💓💓💓
I remember back in 2005 I went to see wasp at the House of blues in New Orleans and I got down there early that day and was hanging out in front of the club and I saw a blackie walking towards the distance towards the tour bus and I kind of sort of moving that way and as he got on the bus and said hey blackie and he stopped and I kind of want towards him and I shook his hand and I told him that I drove all the way from Alabama to see him and that he was my favorite singers and favorite bands of all time and I literally froze up and he just we said hello for just briefly and he said he had to get back on the bus and I reached out and he gave me a hug and I just told him thank you so much and I have a very good memory of that and I appreciate him giving me the time of day
man thats so coool I often dream about this stuff
fucking great.......the good old time and true W.A.S.P. with Blackie + Chris-...thanks for posting
W.A.S.P old days...in my top 5 probably 3 bands of all time. Chris and Blackie. Toxic magical combination. Does not happen very often. Piper too but they still had it after Piper left. They lost something but still had something. Johnny Rod was a great fit too. Chris is the ultimate heavy metal animal. The guy was the 100% perfect metal man guitar dude package. At 51 I still am playing guitar because of Chris. Blackie...no other voice exits like his. The songs...EXTRA...UNORDINARY. Perfection for the time.
chris's tone has balls for days. so much energy in his playing.
Hell yes brother. I agree.
Kevin DuBrow had a similar sort of rasp in 'Mental Health'. Klause Meine had a different style and again not the same depth, but also great before his voice got more nasal with age. Blackie's sandpaper vocals though are probably the top for me.
Well Put..Blackie and Chris don’t get enough credit..great music..still to this day…Blackie is an amazing songwriter
Thanks for this interview ..hi from Greece...
Elenithes have great taste!
Greetings from San Diego, beautiful ♥️
Gee! I've never seen this interview before. Why you guys took so long to share it? Lol thanks for sharing ❤️
Haha you're welcome SS!
Blackie sure sounds (and looks) a lot like Ace Frehley here when he’s excited. Lol. #ack Thanks for posting! First time seeing this 👍🏻
Because Blackie is from New York.
@@rscotta831 True! That likely factors into the equation.
The New Yoiyk in hi comes out ahhh.

can't get over Blackie's missing tooth

I WAS IN THAT ROOM WITH MY GIRLFRIEND. THE CARLTON INN HOTEL.YONGE/CARLTON, TORONTO. WE PARTIED WITH THEM..BUNCH OF WACKO'S.. I LEFT AFTER 15 MINUTES COULD NOT HANDLE THEM. THEY WERE SO HIGH AND FREEKY..HOLMES GAVE ME A JAPAN TOUR T-SHIRT AND TOLD ME THAT HE DIDN'T THINK HE WOULD LIVE TO SEE 30...THEY WERE FRIENDLY, BUT WACKY..
Its the way Blackie does his Paul Stanley dance during 84-aroujnd 87 or so and his costume references Genes earlier costumes & he sometimes does a Move that only Gene would do back in the 70s, a kiss fan knows how Gene moved on stage back then. Blackie was freinds with Ace back in 77 so Im sure he was very very familiar with KISS & How to win over an audience & keep their attention. KISS were rock n rolll , not Pop. , unless you cound Unmasked & the elder but that was long after theyd hit the top & were on their way back down.
Dude! Tell the whole story! I want to know more of what happened that day.
@@user-fi3cz2ij4e well, it was in the early 80's. Long time ago.I was with my girl friend Natalie, we were young 17, 18 Yrs old. We were downtown on Yonge Street...tripping around it was evening time. We went to the House of Lords to get our hair done and then walked South on Yonge Street to Sam the Record Man and bought a few vinyl records. I remember; I remember buying Frank Marino, Mahogany Rush live album 1978. My friend wanted to buy the album Triumph because she had a crush on Rick Emmit . He was from our High School...Bloor Collegiate..but graduated a few years before we started. And pictures of him were around the school..and she was fascinated by him. Anyways, after record hunting, we walked a bit North and stopped into the GasWorks and had a few drinks and smoked a joint. We were in the party mood so we decided to trip back down Yonge Street, stopping along a few more local bars for quick drinks and continued until we reached the Carlton Inn. I knew a man who worked at the front office..he used to sit inside this square like small, glass office. He was an older black man. Maybe in his 50's or so. Every time I would go to the Eaton Centre, I would stop by and visit him for a short while and conversation. He would tell who was staying as a guest and I would try to get their autographes....I met Rod Stewart Blonds have more fun Tour and got tickets for the show Tennis Players, Bijon Both, Jimmy Conners, John Mac Enrow, Vitas Gerilatis....so many people, I cannot even remember them all. Anyways, that might Wasp had done a concert at the Maple Leaf Gardens, and they were staying at the Carlton. Natalie and I saw Holmes, down at the front lobby, while I was talking to the Black man. He told me that they were staying upstairs and that they were a friendly bunch. So, I walked over to him and asked for his autograph, he pulled his long blond hair away from his face and smiled at me. Then he said he had something better to give me and invited my girlfriend and me up to his room. We took the elevator up together and when we got off on his floor, the sound of loud music was playing and coming from his room. He knocked on the door as a joke, and pushed it open and said to the other guys, "look at what I found".....they were friendly, invited us in and asked if we wanted a drink. Blacki was wearing his long, high wedged black leather boots and was pouring drinks. Another band member was sitting on a chair and Holmes then stretched himself out on the bed. The room was very small , so my friend and I sat at the foot of the bed, while having our drink.pillows and bed sheets were on the floor and bottles and glasses everywhere. They pulled out some cocaine and asked if we wanted some. I said no thank you. Blackie kept looking out the window and walking around in his high boots with his long black hair looking wild and laughing. Holmes was as high as a kite and could barely stand up without holding on to something to break his fall. I was getting a bit nervous and told him to be careful. He said to me" I am lucky if I live to see the age of 30. " This kind of talk freaked me out because I couldn't relate to their mentality. They were so stoned and laughing and acting like it did not matter what tomorrow would bring. So, I said we had to go cause it was getting late. As I got up to leave...Holmes reached near the side of the bed and grabbed a t-shirt and gave it to me. He said it was better than his autograph. He went on saying that it was his Japan Tour T-shirt. It was really nice. Black with orange and red, cut off sleeves and WASP printed on it with JAPAN TOUR and some Japaneese symbol. I gave him a hug and thanked him. Then we left. I just felt sick in that room for some reason. It was a mixed feeling of sadness, disappointment and sorrow. It's hard to explain.....
Shortly, after that, I got into collecting Guitar, Circus and Heavy Metallica magazines. As well as electric guitars. I had accumulated at least 300 magazines from the 70's and 80's. And around 10 electric guitars. One was a fender with ivory. Gorgeous guitar red, and ivory color, 6 were 4 string base Lero, and after a few yrs...I took the magazines and dropped them off in 2 boxes at the back of value village. I remember as I pulled away to drive off it started to rain heavily and I almost wanted to take them back but it was very late at night and I did not want to get wet...so I drive off leaving them to get soaked up in the rain . I only kept a couple of my favorite ones, which I still have in a storage. The guitars, I gave to the homeless people who were street musicians. The fender, I gave to some guy playing a 2 string guitar outside Dundas West subway station. That day, Pink Floyd was in doing a concert and I was not able to get tickets, so I asked the homeless musician if he could play me the song "WISH YOU WERE HERE". I handed him the guitar in place of his broken one and he played it beautifully. So I told him he could keep it and I thanked him for the performance....I only have one electric guitar left after all those years . It's in my storage and I have no use for it.
@@astelbele Why would you give it all away?
Blackie is the Elvis of heavy metal.
Is it just me or does Blackie look just like Ann Wilson of Heart?
Lolz!!! Yes!!...
Ive always thought of them both doing a duet to Dog and Butterfly ....lolz
Hahahahahahahahahaha

I never noticed until I just read your comment. Yeah he does.

I have a feeling if this interview happened today, it would probably lead to some really odd fan fiction.
lmao right
If it happened now it would been praised for breaking down toxic masculinity and preaching LGBT representation in metal or whatever the fuck
@@kozagongwell it couldn't happen today because lawless is too big of a narcissistic jackass and ripped Chris out of a bunch of money and royalty rights the real wasp has been over for years
Really odd fanfiction you say? Hold my beer! 😀
As badass as they were, when I saw them in bed together, I was done!!😂There was no way I couldn't laugh all the way thru!! #animalfucklikeabeast
I saw the gay jokes coming from a mile away
I’m jealous of whoever went to that show (Armored Saint, Metallica and WASP).
Andrew Machado ,I was there Jan 1985 in Toronto! Great time & one hell of a memory to think back on!
Present. :)
Was a wickedly fun Toronto show !! I felt bad for WASP as they were great but trying to follow RIDE THE LIGHTNING set with Cliffy on bass?...... sorry dudes...
Also been an Armored Saint fan ever since....
First ever concert. W.A.S.P. And Iron Maiden. Biloxi Mississippi.
I was there also. Stood in line in the freezing cold for hours was close to the first people let in. I remember Hell's angels was doing security and I was close to the stage. Guy in front of me was high as fuck and jumping around, a Hell's angel that was on stage had enough of this guy and lined over and punched him in the face(hard) the guys face swelled up and he left. Chris was sweating so much it was dripping from his guitar. I couldn't understand how he was able to play having his fingers , fret-board and everything else dripping wet with sweat. And I mean drip drip drip drip drip....etc. Coked the fuck right out. Saw some band named Metallica lol
These guys are FUCKING legends!
blackie got some gnarly looking teeth.
🤣
Some is the key word!
I have to admit, from listen to WASP from the 80's....and the event of RUclips, has brough a new insight into Blackie Lawless, he can more than hold a conversation and articulate his points across and has a great sense of humour!
My favorite wasp forever and blackie lawless my love favorite ❤️ my love ❤️
I highly suspect that many rock & roll stars during this time were bisexual and closet transexuals, way more than we know about. Just look at how homoerotic some of W.A.S.P's older photos are where Blackie is holding onto the others with a chain as if their dogs and so often in those thigh high, high-heeled boots. I get it might have been more fashionable for rockers back then, but surely they weren't practical on-stage? The incredibly camp, pouting promo photo of Sister in particular looks almost looks like a rock band you might see mainly touring drag clubs & gay bars. He kept some interesting company for an average straight man.
Who knows what these two are like in real life, but Holmes' claims about his relationship with Blackie as a band member reminds me of a toxic, intimate relationship where the guy is possessive over his partner, is jealous of her achievements and tries to keep her under the thumb. Note that Blackie couldn't help being publicly quite bitter and disrespectful when Chris, just like many men in their 30s, simply wanted to settle down with a Lita, goading his masculinity for wishing to do this.
A lot Blackie's visuals were just theatrics, shock value, trends, trying to looking like they were in a Mad Max spin-off, but some of it the band dynamics would certainly make for interesting storyline material if anyone ever made a series about the bands of this time!
WASP, Plasmatics, RAMONES , RIOT, BOC, The Dickies, X are very good bands I enjoy!
Excellent taste
Blackie and Chris being goofballs kills me!
They are/were goofballs but imagine Johnny Rod with them there😂. He was THE goofball of WASP and still is as crazy and hilarious as always.
Hilarious. Love a funny and rowdy Blackie. 😂😂😂😂❤

The year before in 1983 i was into Hard Rock & listened to Rush, Heart & Van Halen. In 1984 when this interview happened i bought WASP's first "self-titled" album & Iron Maiden's "Powerslave" & officially became a Metalhead.

Blackie felt cute that day lol
Lots of Gene Simmons influence in their early days
Lots of Slade influence in Kiss.
Blackie acted like Gene on the first album, then like Paul on the Last Command.
Maybe the image, which looks more like a Alice Cooper influence to me. But their sound is very heavy, like a progression of Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Can't hear Kiss poppy songs in their style.
Is that Traci Lords in the tank...
Blackie didn't care much for his teeth. That's for sure.
Big Whoop.
Thats call beign poor before he went remake them .
He's 28 in this clip and already missing teeth.
