    I wonder how many times someone fed this bear at that rental cabin?

    • @josephshields2922
      @josephshields2922 3 месяца назад

      Probably almost never, It is a Hasidic community not Yellowstone park.Don't try to blame this on folks giving treats to bears,. Hundreds of folks across NYS feed bears either intentionally or unintentionally and that was only the second bear fatality in NYS history going back 118 years.Research has shown that dirty diapers can be an attractant. The child was left unattended sleeping on the porch and at the time it was said she had a bottle of milk or spilt milk.AS opposed to "feeding bears" they probably didn't realize there were bears in the area.

      I live Upstate NY and remember this. It is a common camping area for Hasidim from NYC. What this story doesn't mention is the people were very sloppy with food and it is likely food was left out. Campers in these bungalows/cabins DID NOT SECURE their garbage.

    • @dabprod

      @@tubecontributor3206 Exactly right. I live less than 10 miles from where this happened. This is a Jewish bungalow colony, and the same people come up here from NY City every summer. The local dumpster is usually overflowing with fool scraps and other garbage. I'm sure bears are feeding at the dumpster every night, but on this day a bear showed up in broad daylight and was not afraid of people and this tragedy happened. We have a lot of bears in this area, I have them in my back yard regularly. I keep a few hives of honeybees and have to protect them from bears with an electric fence.

      It's a terrible thing that they lost their baby. I can't imagine seeing your baby being shaken in the jaws of a bear. But the fact that they were sloppy with their food and would not heed local customs about such things, could have been to the demise of somebody else's baby. That's not to say that I'm glad it happened to their baby; only that it didn't happen to somebody else's baby because of carelessness.

    Sorry, but this bear saw the opportunity for a small, fatty snack. It wasn’t the baby’s fault, because it smelled like milk or baby poop; bears routinely attack baby deer, moose, calves, etc. Baby animals are defenseless without their mothers around, and poor baby Esther was alone, and her parents didn’t have any weapons to protect her even if they’d been there. Sad. There was a reason why our ancestors culled these types of apex predators, and it wasn’t because humans are mean. It’s because they WILL eat you if they want to.

    Of course, this is horrific for that dear baby and her parents. What stood out to me, tho, was the fact that the bear had three other gunshot wounds, besides the policeman's shot which took it down, one even to the bear's head. I am sure those wounds were very painful and the head wound may even have altered the bears natural behavior. This could certainly account for his unusual actions and this awful tragedy.

Then upon it's snachting the Baby from the Stroller, it never really panicked or hurriedly fled away.

    • @uberrox452
      @uberrox452 3 месяца назад +5

      @Annie497 I agree with some of what you said. But you're wrong about these attacks being rare . Many black bears that have killed people are in the woods, hiking. Even skiers have been attacked. The more black bears there are, the less their fear of humans are, and many states across the US are recording record #'s of bears. As for blaming the victim here, they said: Well, maybe she had milk on her clothes, or maybe it was something in her diaper. That's ridiculous. This bear was looking for a meal and found one. Wildlife biologists have been lying to the public for decades about bear #'s and behavior. It's people like you that put out a false narrative, also. Just bc the bears around you run off into the forest doesn't mean they aren't causing heartache elsewhere. The more bears, the more bear attacks. It's simple math. Black bears are incredibly stealthy. We're being overrun by bears, and they need to be culled to keep them out of human developments.

      I have a sneaking feeling that these positions in wildlife management are being filled with progressives. I their words, lack of actions, and their defense of killer predators, is very much the mindset and leanings of progressives. I don't mean to be political here, but it's just my observations.
      Something about their mindset doesn't connect the dots and is an able to assess cause and effect, because their ideology (humans bad and animals good, humans, bad and earth good, humans bad and their death is good) is like a cult religion that they can't injure in anyway.
      It's similar to what has happened and is happening with governmental food recommendations. The people who staff those positions and make recommendations are largely vegetarians, specifically Seventh-day Adventists, who are vegetarian's. No matter how many people ruin their health because they are following their recommendations and/or are vegans, these policymakers will never change, because it is a religion to them which must be defended at all costs.

    Being that the bear had plastic bags and food wrappers, etc. in its stomach, it seems like the bear was used to using people and their areas as a food source. It sounds like the bear wasn't drawn in by any smell on the baby but once it got close, the baby attracted the bear form any sort of scent and the fact hat the baby was easy to grab. The bear probably had intentions of consuming the baby in another place, away from the noise the people had created. Once the bear grabbed the baby, the baby probably didn't survive long after that. Yes, we have to share the parks, etc. with the bears but people have gotten too lax when around bears and other animals. People also leave their garbage around for bears to eat and any animal will return to any place they have gotten food from. It's a sad tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to this family.

    • @josephshields2922
      @josephshields2922 3 месяца назад

      Many bears eat garbage and visit camp areas for left behind food. Next to none of them ever kill or even attack a human being. In fact if you read Herrero's study of bear attacks, Bear responsible for predatory attacks on humans are usually bears in remote areas that have had little or no contact with humans. They are usually starving as a result of environmental conditions such as drought. The bear in this case did not kill the baby but dragged her by the diaper . The baby died from head trauma caused from striking her head on a rock. Why the issue of milk is relevant to this event? Is because young bears hunt fawns in Spring . They kill them but do not eat the meat. It has recently been discovered that they kill them for the colostrum inside the stomach. One theory is that this young inexperienced bear mistook the baby (If indeed its odor was masked by spilled milk) for a fawn. NY has 4000 bears and this was only the second fatality in 100 years. There were over 200k bear sightings that year including the tourist filled Adorondack mountains without incident.

      And more deaths from people. THey tell the truth and you have to realize the trail is like 1000 miles long through several states. You'd be surprised how many "Hikers" have warrants. Those wildlife deaths took place over 30-40 years. Everytime a bear shows up in someone's yard it makes the front page and I live near the trail.So, I don't know where all these conspiracy coverup rumors come from.

As bears are common there and it is somewhat rural you'd think a shovel, axe, or hoe would be handy. I've never thought to head towards trouble without wielding something. Has society lost the instinct to protect others....?

      States that have legal bear hunting have more bears as well as human encroachment into wildlife habitat.
      And second is it's been well known for decades that several New Jersey bears are tagged in New York.
      Third is coalitions between state wildlife management and sportsmen/women groups benefit all, if political BS and theft is eliminated.
      It provides direct revenue to wildlife management.
      It provides data they would never be able to afford without huge tax dollars involved from people that never stepped off a sidewalk, but yet want to chine in or regulate it.

    This had me in tears! Bears are so powerful and nobody will do anything. If there's bears around the area, going through trash etc They should be at least take far into their own habitat. Long way away. If they're around, there's always going to be a threat towards people. It just takes one bear and your loved one is gone!

    • @user-ry1vi1jc7o

      I just don't understand why people do not protect themselves and their communities, but let the bears wander through and feed. From what I've read about bears, it only takes a couple being shot, and the other bears learn to stay away. But it becomes very dangerous once the bears start becoming comfortable around humans, because it means they have lost their fear of them. They are predators and predators are expert at quickly sizing up another animal, including humans. They can assess the size, probable strength, and who is likely to win the fight. And typically among predators, the larger animal always wins.
      It ain't Pooh Bear with a cute red bib, but a dangerous predator with long and sharp claws and teeth, and tremendous strength, and sees you as food; not as Christopher Robbin.

This reminds me of a previous episode where the mother and baby were attacked by a polar bear in a whiteout up in the far north. This was a predatory attack and little Esther wound up the victim. It breaks my heart and I hope the family can somehow recover. My condolences to you as well Addicus, I had no idea of your losses.

    Sometimes you can do everything right and lightning still strikes on a bright sunny day... Not casting blame.. However securing your trash and other human food sources against animal activity might not seem like that big a deal, but bears being habituated to humans by way of food is obviously not a good idea.. Not just for the home owner, but everyone else in the area.. Addicus, I feel for your loss and pain! While my kids somehow survived and are out of college now, I still worry about them.. I was extra special worried when bringing them up... I/we lost a baby once about half way to exiting the 'oven'.. It sucked, but it certainly is nowhere near losing a child that has you've held and looked into the EYES and vice versa.. I'd bet I'm not alone in thinking it would be cool if you did some sort of introduction and shared more info about yourself, family, and so on.. I promise I won't post about 10mm G20's if you do! lol

    So unbelievably sad, both your loss and the death of baby Esther. This town/city has a f…g lot of work to do to make this community livable. Trash, garbage, birdseed, pet food, and houses where bears can just walk in and have some cookies. These bears are most likely habituated to easy living, aren’t afraid of humans and need to be dealt with however the town decides to do it. I hate knowing that people live in beautiful places, in complete ignorance of bear habits and the damage and tragedy bears can cause. Until there is an incident like this….a sad wake up call.
