This lie most likely killed the marriage in the long run. Part of me wonders how would they ended up like if he told the truth, but explained his reasons - Carlo's constant abuse of Connie and of course the way he set up Sonny for death.
I think she believes him for a moment at least. She smiles crying and goes into his arms. That’s not the reaction of someone who feels she just has been lied to. Arguably, she does understand he lied to her face A MERE FEW MOMENTS LATER when the mafiosi kiss his ring and call him Don Corleone. Then she understands he has become a real mafia boss. And consequently she probably figures out . That’s what make the scene extra chilling : his calm behavior knowing what he did , his first quick denial, his anger, his second thoughtful denial, their momentary intimate moment , AND THEN her late realization it’s all a lie and she’s stuck in a marriage with a cold blooded bona fide mob boss - someone who will kill and lie to her face without breaking a sweat. And the door closed to her face as the final shot enhances it further. She will be on a very strict need to know basis in her marriage and Micheal is now a mob boss first and foremost.
I think she wants to believe him because she loves him and it is more painful to lose him than to accept the truth. As we already know, this leads to an end because it was an impossible relationship.
It's the scheme all psychopats use when dealing with their victims: 1. Intimidate the victim with aggressive behavior, anger and violence 2. Change posture suddenly and act like you are willing to do your intimidated victim a favor 3. Look your victim in the eye and lie and gaslight her while she thinks you are doing her a favor
Carlo participated in setting Santino up because he knew eventually, his brother- law would be at him to death for domestic violence. I love the guy who shuts the door. I think he offs Fredo and is shot during one of his hits.
The last time she asks him if it's true, they both know he's lying. An incredible cinematic moment.Just cinema
When my love tells me that she is made of Truth I believe her though I know she lies

She believes him at first, but once she sees him with his men, she realizes he’s lied.
The best Silvio Dante impersonation I have seen!
Is it true? Michael
Just when i thought i was out of sopranos clips, they pull me back in!
Outstanding.
The entire sequence I just held my breath mesmerized. How can a person act like he does. Magical. Spell binding.
This is when cinema peaked.
Still can’t get over Pacino being Nominated for Supporting Actor and not Best Actor. Like I said Perfection at its very Perfection.
My guess is because it's Marlon Brando and was a bigger name. I also always wonder how Kevin Spacey was in best supporting actor for Usual Suspects
@ Most likely
Nominated for either category, him not winning the Oscar was THE BIGGEST CRIME OF THE ACADEMY EVER

1:39 that "ENOUGH" is scarier than all jumpscares combined
Michael didn't lie. He didn't kill Carlo. Clemenza did it.
A Godfather does what A Godfather gotta do
Greatest movies ever Godfather 1 an 2
Ironic how she just became the spoiled family member in the 2nd movie.
How would you react?

ICONIC Performance
i wonder that she cries about Carlo and not about all the times he punched her in her face.
And caused her brother’s death.
Carlo? He was a saint
@@nautilusshell940 There's no stigmata these days, even Fredo Corleone was epileptic.

A naive person will believe anything that sounds good.
Masterwork
Modern Family did a get spoof

Crazy they never wanted him for this part
Ah histerical women in movies. You don't see that anymore...
Some things are best done only behind closed doors
