      absolutely.
      people in these comments go after andy's friends and shoot them down saying they were toxic and all that when this video isn't even about them. yeah, that may be true but that's a weird comparison to make trying to justify miranda's absolutely disgusting personality. both andy's friends and miranda are garbage. both can be true. not to mention that andy eventually quit her job because she saw herself becoming what she hated. and people call this behavior "iconic"? lol
      what is this weird sentiment that miranda was "iconic" by having a trash personality?
      stop mixing meryl streep with a character in the movie.
      everybody went after ellen when they found out how she was behind closed curtains when she is an incredibly successful person who broke barriers and pioneered her way through when being gay was considered a sin.
      nobody praised steve jobs' personality when people found out how much of an asshole he was with his subordinates and in his workplace.

      @@pierre0227 I don't think so. As humans we all grow up and change it's inevitable, that's what Andy was going through while working for Miranda. Even she herself admitted to liking some of the things fashion has to offer. There's nothing wrong with tapping into new things and changing because of it, in the process. So, it wasn't that she wasn't being herself, she was, it was just her growing. Something her friends should have realized and supported rather than accuse her and shame her for wanting to grow and if it wasn't for that metamorphic experience, Andy wouldn't have ever known how people and business in the Fashion Industry truly truly work.

      Definitely a power move. Notice that the first time Andy corrects Miranda by telling her her name, Miranda smiles, rattles off requests a mile a minute (knowing Andy will totally forget), then calls her "Emily" again. Miranda starts calling her "Andrea" only when she's jumped through a million hoops and passed a million little tests. That's when Andy has earned her name back. It's very sneaky, but very effective since Andy was a people pleaser and subconsciously wanted that prize of being called by her name again.

      When I was younger and the film was just released I hated Miranda and Andy for neglecting her friends. But I watched the film again and I realised the villain was not Miranda, she was the one teaching Andy the ins and outs of the industry. Andy's friends said she changed, what they didn't realise is that Andy was actually 'growing, learning and adapting' to a new atmosphere. Her friends and BF instead of supporting her were actually holding her growth, which put Andy into crossroads of a potential career path. People say Andy working atmosphere was toxic, I disagree, if you're working with the very best they have a set of standards that each must be expected, Andy was no exception. Miranda knew Andy had great potential thus she tested her out and proved she had what it takes.
      I realised her Friends and BF were the real Toxic ones. They never really wanted her to grow.

    • @lauraelizabethbrown
      @lauraelizabethbrown 2 года назад +446

      I don't necessarily think Andy sucked. She was just young and in an industry she didn't understand. What I like about her was the moment she decided to stop playing the victim and decided to learn about the fashion world for the sake of her job. She made mistakes, but I also like that at the end she decided she had sold her soul to the industry and enough was enough. Her biggest flaw is going back to her toxic ex-boyfriend. Miranda was absurd, but I seriously love her.

    • @zitronentee
      @zitronentee 2 года назад +173

      @@jaydave1246 I think both sides are no villains.
      The film depicted Andy's friend as shallow. But I think there's more than that.
      Andy started as serious journalist in college. Of course her friends knew her and might expect Andy to stay the same path, but surprised that Andy took a job in fashion magazine.
      At first, they accepted it, but they also saw Andy drowning in her job and losing her old self and they didn't like to see her losing herself. Sure, Andy was become better at her job, but it didn't mean it's the career she wanted.
      So, at the end, Andy quit, find a new job that suit herself but still grateful of the experience with Miranda.
      It's the middle way.
      But yeah, tbh, her friends were overreacting in the movie.

      Well, I don't think the friends and the boyfriend managed the situation in the best way, but there is also the fact that Andy didn't make herself clear.
      She would constantly say that she will make it to their parties, that she will make it up when she couldn't make it, then failing to do so again.
      Be it friendship or a romantic, every relationship has boundaries, some customs and things that are important. Andy broke too many boundaries.
      That circle of friends and Andy grew apart the moment she prioritized her work over her private life. She is free to do that, but her friends and boyfriend are free to like or dislike the changes too.

      So sick of people making moral and mental gymnastics to turn the friends and boyfriend into the villains: Andy wanted to be a journalist, a writer. They knew that and were surprised when she went full servant of an ABUSIVE boss figure. Don't know if you watched the full movie, but in the end she actually ended up being happy out of that job her friends and boyfriend hated and spoke against.

      @@jorgeserna8411 and if it weren't for Miranda's cold referral on the job Andrea applied for at the ending, she wouldn't have been accepted either. Miranda helped Emily develop a good work ethic considering she used to only do the bare minimum from the start. Jobs are hard. What makes it even harder is when your supposed support system openly bullies, ridicules, and go against you for growing in a different phase than before. Unsupportive systems are what hinders a potential. Her bf and friends couldve approached her in the least toxic way possible when they knew from the start that she was struggling to get a job before she became Miranda's assistant. I don't romanticize toxic work culture but it is inevitable in reality. Fake it til you make and stand against your ground until you are able to adapt. The world will not cater to you just because you are falling vehibd. The least they couldve done was support Andrea and confront to her about it but instead they were the ones being inconsiderate and insensituve when she was struggling to adapt which by the way is a normal part of performance progress.

    I find it interesting that Miranda often used the word “disappointment” when she talks to her employees. Instead of threatening them that they’ll be fired, she says “you disappoint me”. Imo this is more powerful cause that makes the person feel like they failed someone, that their boss thought they could do better and they will work harder in the future. However, when you threaten someone that they’ll be fired, that only makes the person scared or angry, but does not push your employee to perform better.
