    That SAILING SHIP WAS PROBABLY THE ROYAL CLIPPER OF THE CLIPPER LINE . I HAD THE GREAT PLEASURE OF CROSSING THE BIG POND ON IT A FEW YEARS BACK. IT WAS WONDERFUL BUT THERE WASN T’ MUCH WIND (KIND OF LIKE COLUMBUS EXPERIENCED). SHE CROSSES THE ATLANTIC IN THE LATE FALL AND WINTERS IN THE CARIBBEAN. ALSO A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. ONE KIND OF GETS SPOILED WHAT WITH THE GREAT SCENERY, MEALS AND A SMALL SWIMMING POOL ON DECK. THEY ALSO HAD A GUY TEACHING KNOT TYING WHICH WAS FUN. GOOD SAILING YOU CRUISERS. We did a Sint Maarten-Dominica-Anguilla-Sint Maarten tour in 2015 on a charter boat, including Antigua and Guadeloupe and other islands of course. Our absolute favourite was Dominica, I am glad you liked it. It was so good to see again the Indian River in your video (we still have the leaf fish and bird, though grey now). Hope to visit it again some day!

    Biggest tip for all sailers and boaters. Watch dutchsinse up to 6 days before sailing anywhere. What happens on the other side of the world can effect you.
    Great video. Stay safe. Your husband needs to grow his hair long. Look more like a sailer.
    I like that you compare the islands, show maps etc. How was the fruit you found on the hike, that looked like mangos?

    Just out of curiosity, what is your sail inventory. I see a Doyle main. Do you know the cloth weight on these sails? Love your series.

    • @sailingsvborabora8712
      @sailingsvborabora8712  6 лет назад +1

      Mark Welch, hi Mark, we had a new main, mizzen and genoa made by a local company called Exe sails before we set off. Not too sure of fabric weight but I asked for heavy cruising sails. I think the genoa is 9oz, but could be wrong. Aside from that we have an old laminate genoa similar size to our main genoa that I got off eBay dead cheap, we use that when we run with the twin headsails. I carry the old main and mizzen as back up, a spinnaker and a mizzen staysail and one other smaller hank on old jib and hank on storm jib that we can fly on an emergency stay that fits inboard of the main furler. i do hope that's helpful. Thanks for watching and fair winds.

    Hey guys. Great work. We're hauled out in Greece for the winter and back in the States for now, but lots of video left to edit. If I can ask, what kind of camera are you using? I love the zoom, plus it looks stabilized.

    • @sailingsvborabora8712
      @sailingsvborabora8712  6 лет назад

      Sailing Yacht Talisman, hi talisman, we use a sony handy cam HDR-CX405, good stabilisation and zoom as you say, but on the downside no external mic option or option to use a rat for wind noise. Robust though, and it has had a few dunkings and survived. Thanks for watching and fair winds.

      Wow, thanks for getting back so fast. Your vids are looking great. We've been following for a while. We decided to stay in Greece for next season to give the Caribbean a bit longer to recover. Plus, it seemed a bit of a rush to charge back across the Med after just getting there.

    Ben....How or should I say what are you using for your power source...I see one solar...Give me a run down on what you are using...batteries etcetera. Hope you don't mind...Ken.

    • @sails3538
      @sails3538 6 лет назад

      Ken Wood ...... hope this helps.... on my 65ft sailboat. 500 wts of solar is the min and 800 amphrs of battery. And some tips. The most power hungry item on the boat is the fridge, a 12v 1.2 amp modern super high efficiency fridge is a must. And any deep cycle lead acid batteries, the big Costco ones are the best budget ones. Over 20 yrs living off grid I have seen every battery used and if you live completely off grid..... all batteries last max 4 yrs. And AGM's last max 3 yrs. Good luck.....

    • @sailingsvborabora8712
      @sailingsvborabora8712  6 лет назад

      Ken Wood. Hi Ken, we have 3 x Panasonic 245w solar panels that charge 8 x trojan t105 6 volt batteries through a Victron mppt regulator. That gives us all the power we need nearly all the time. If it's overcast for days in a row we have a small built in diesel generator or the main engine to top things up. Hope that helps.

    • @sailingsvborabora8712
      @sailingsvborabora8712  6 лет назад +1

      Ken Wood, Also I will definitely consider lithium ion when my t105s finally die. It's a better technology and the price is falling. The main benefit being you can use the entire capacity and never worry about running them flat. Lead acid you can only safely use 25% of their capacity before you must recharge or the will die very quickly. Thanks for watching and fair winds.

    • @sails3538
      @sails3538 6 лет назад

      Sailing SV Bora Bora....... li-ion can be discharged to 50% and any more will ruin the battery bank. One complete discharge and the battery is toast. Please do some research on the down side of Li-ions. And the costs are not even close to being equal to lead acid over time.

    Your videos are so good because they’re over before you know it I’ve really missed you guys! I hope all is well I have a question if you are willing ? What year, make and model is S/V Bora Bora were quite keen on her because she’s beautiful and quite rugged for some of the rough passages we’ve witnessed. Liz and I are retiring soon and your boat seems perfect but Liz wants A/C she’s a bit of a wimp but happy Wife happy life they say. That was a bit long winded oh my how I can chatter on blah, blah ,blah. We love watching your videos so much and y’all are such a handsome couple easy on the eyes as they say. I’m in love with 38’ Hans Christian found one in mint condition in LaPorte, Texas near Galveston, Texas for $49k I should have bought it and put her in storage until we retire in ten years....what are your thoughts on that boat we really value your opinion. It’s inappropriate but you have a beautiful Wife with a nice bum so jealous....fair winds Liz and Matt Houston, Texas

      Hi there, Bora Bora is a 1974 Victory 40, old, tough and good in the rough stuff, full keel and heavy at 15 ton. Please check out the boat tour we did a while back here on you tube. Thanks for watching! all the best and fair winds wherever they may carry you.

  • @ABeriault

    Allo Bora Bora!
    Your videos are fun and informative and you are a lovely couple.
    If I may suggest however you need to work on your sound editing skills...because your voice tracks and background music tracks are not equal.
    Here at home, viewing on my MacPro and my Cinema screen, I have to set the volume way up just to hear your voices and then way down when the music kicks in. Every time getting up from the couch and adjusting the volume.
    I am a film maker, and this is a simple procedure to adjust your sound if you are using a popular NL editor such as Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut.
    a) Make sure all you sound tracks are separate: voice, voice over, music and sound effects if you have any!
    b) Normalise all the voice tracks to -3db and attach them to their own bus (volume adjustment)...
    .....Adobe Premiere Pro has the best NORMALIZE tool by far: it removes the peaks, raises the lows and finds the noise in between them, to cut some of it off!
    c) Normalise all the music tracks also to -3db and send them to their own volume bus
    d) repeat for the other tracks
    e) Then use each bus controls and bring the volume down to -6db or slightly less if peaks are still in the red. But if your normalized the tracks, this should not happen.
    f) The MASTER output bus (which manages all the intermediate buses) should never exceed -6db if you want you viewers to set their sound volume approximately at the halfway mark...
    That it...simple. There are other techniques, certainly more masterly if you use applications such as Pro Tools....but if you want to keep it simple...this it!
    Cheers
    Andre

      André Bériault, hey Andre and thank you for the advise. We will try our best to use it to improve our audio in future episodes. One of our biggest problems is with wind noise in with the camera audio, I think we need a better camera that has a mic rat or socket for remote mic. Anyway thanks for watching and fair winds.

    • @okcpicker
      @okcpicker 6 лет назад

      @@sailingsvborabora8712 Just a furry wind sock over the camera mic would do the trick. Back in the day, we called them dead cats. Look up a brands called Rode or Rycote.
