E6: Solo a Sailing in Antigua clearing in and Dinghy Sailing Depth Sounder Breaks

- I am a 27-year-old female solo sailor beginning my circumnavigation.
My boat is a 27 foot sloop named Gecko. Follow me on my journey as I
learn about heavy-weather sailing, the trials of being solo, and my
adventures in paradise. This week I sailed from St. Martin to Antigua
on the best transit yet! Follow along on my (not successful) fix of my
traveler (and subsequent jury-rig) and my clearing out process in St.
Martin. I also answer a few more questions about my boat.
The song I sang is a cover of Lost in My Mind by The Head and the Heart

Wow the harmonies with yourself are awesome. I’m binge watching you May 2023. 😁
I don't know how I found your channel but I went back to the start and am also binge watching. You are living a dream I have had for years and working on making that a reality. I was a mechanic for years, worked for Chris Craft building them for a bit so as for maintenance and repairs I have the knowledge and experience but never made any real money to put away. Now I drive a truck and the money is good, very good so I am saving up quickly and I have learned much about living in a small space along the way being over the road coast to coast here in the USA for years on end. One day soon the right boat will come into my life and I will start selling off all my music gear and drum kit (Probably keep a Guitar and/or Bass) retire a little early load it up and set out.
Same here. Underrated channel for certain.
Please know that the larger RUclips community does understand about the vagaries of internet in far away places. Do not take extra risk for the sake of "the schedule." I am always grateful for the videos I get, schedule or no.
Thank you! I appreciate that :)
@@WindHippieSailingYou are awesome! stay safe out there!
Yes. Howard is correct. Be careful. I don't understand the safety realities of being a girl alone in the Caribbean on a small sailboat, so I can't advise.
When someone says “ I have a bunch of ridiculous clothes” and you’re like “my people!” 🤪.
Late comer to your videos, and I wish I could have enjoyed the wait between videos... But still having great fun watching them all in a bunch.
A youtube Star is born!!! Your vids are so captivating because you let us into your mind and heart and you are damn fearless! I was hoping to see your carnival outfit though. Be safe!
Love how humble, and real you are!!
Amen.
I am living my sailing life vicariously through you Holly. Im having a great time!!
Rob Charles; Me too... ;-}

You're great....truly a classic rare soul...Infinite Blessings
I love your videos.
"...prepping my outfit... gonna go in full, stealth-style...in my pink tutu...under the cover of darkness..." love it!
Stories to tell your grandchildren one day 🙂
You are my favourite sailor!
I learn from watching you. I'm going to put a sail on my tender after watching your success.
Cheers Gray Australia

What an inspiring young lady ,your energy is awesome enjoying your journey immensely.
Stay safe and love every minute ,life is what you make of it.
Thank you for allowing us to escape the 8 to 5 chains if only for a wee while.
Lots of love from Scotland
The images, the singing, and this incredible story with the British beach party: great episode!! Thank you for going through all this wifi adventure for us 😍
Worth it!
That song "lost in my mind" was one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard! Made me cry out of just pure emotion
windhippie, don't feel like you need to make a new port/anchorage to make an interesting video...it's all good!
Thanks for making these amazing videos every week. Impressive. Also, thanks for not taking many minutes of every video to talk about your Patreon, Liking, Subscribing, etc. I don't mind you mentioning it (and plan to become a Patron soon) but its refreshing that half the upload isn't shoving non-content stuff down our throats. You're amazing. Best of luck and I can't wait for future uploads!
This channel is really taking off fast. Good for you. There is something really compelling about a young woman solo sailing around the world. Best of luck to you!
The offer from last week still stands.:-)
I think it is very fitting that you have a sailing tender / dinghy. Nice one! Thanks for taking us with you .
I enjoy your videos every Monday it's like going on the adventures with you
Always makes my Monday better.
Fair winds.
Good thing you didn’t invite that taxi guy lol stay safe !!!! Great vid i realy enjoy xox
Another awesome video.
I love your videos...born in Antigua and grew up in the US and a former US Navy personal. Whenever, I visit, the beaches are the first place to be in the morning. Jealous!
Awesome song, loved the cool sailing dinghy
Your videos are awesome! Keep up the good work. I love watching your stuff
Holly, Thank you for making me smile, and I fully appreciate your courage as well. You don't know me but I want you to know I'm proud of you and I feel you are a true human being on a wonderful adventure. Thanks for sharing it with me. All the best! Doug3
Thanks! I'm glad to spread the joy :)
Thank you windhippie. Sail safe
I recommended you to all the young women in my life you are great positive influence and here independent can do attitude will be an inspiration to any young woman that sees you and what you accomplished
Well done young lady, well done. You’re an inspiration to this old guy as we finish up our old boat. My dog Missy and I watch you every week. Keep up the good work.
Good video. Read The depth by sight. You definitely have the ability. I loved the face lighting. We want you to read us a scary pirate story with said lighting. THANK YOU.
Haha spin-off channel: pirate stories with scary face lighting
Great video Holly! Thanks!
Beats the hell out of rowing, huh?! My favorite episode so far..
I get lost in my mind too! Now I know I ain't the only one! And I love it too!
Such fun videos ... makes every Monday better. I miss my boats (“Avocet” a Victoria 18 in the early 1990’s and “Concordia” a Valiant 32 I sailed from 2002 to 2015) but I am loving this vicarious cruise with you.
I respect your seamanship and self-sufficiency ... both are so necessary. I most admire your attitude and sense of adventure. Stay sweet and keep doing this for as long as its fun!
You would be well advised that the way we make pepper sauce aka hot sauce is verrrrry different from what you may have been accustomed...We have a variety of peppers from mild to super scorching hot...As we say in the West Indies...you could get burnt three times from the same pepper sauce...Mouth, stomach and well you know the other part...Best wishes and Best of weather...and be safe...
Great video. My wife and I love watching you.
I loved exploring the coastlines and marinas in my sailing dinghy. I would take something to eat and drink and could be gone for hours and sometimes, all day. Several times I didn't get back to my boat until midnight. Yes, always take your oars with you because things happen. I love sailing and it was more fun in the little boat than the much faster 40' big boat. I hope you continue to use your dinghy sail rig for exploring.
Wind Hippie, I hope you buy more errotic vegetables. I like that you are not embarrassed to say what everybody was thinking. I have never seen a YT video where somebody was honest about their thoughts, feelings, fears, and experiences. That is the reason we all go sailing -- to excite and discover our own brains.
You have a lovely voice.
I am planning a very similar solo very small boat - Pearson 26, departing from Kemah, TX (Houston).
Tom
P.S. May I suggest that you rig a simple Rain Water Catcher for additional fresh water.
I love how you keep it real and honest.
Thanks! :)
Holly, hello and happy to find your channel. Wow! It's so entertaining and educational and inspiring. I'm not a sailor...yet. Just starting the search for a starter boat that i can learn on in MN. Binging and enjoying. Merci!
Beautiful harmony!
Your little sailing dinghy is the best! That song "lost in my mind" is soulful. You have rad tattoos too! Yes ma'am, don't worry, just get lost in your world. :D
Awesome video, thanks Holly, you rock!!
You are a free spirit...love it.
Love the sailing dingy.
I can't stop watching...
Oh chicka, another morning made by you! Sitting with Gertrude the hen in my lap on the porch watching a new day come about. You made it that much better. Gertrude said hello and thanks!
I love the sailing dingy. We also had one on the cat. Also I love to see how you secure the anchor with the rope to the boat. We eventually had to do it on the cat as well because we smashed a piece...sorry I learned all the names in french and I know nothing in English...but yeah love to see how you secure the anchor on the boat. Love love love...learning so much of these videos and so much fun
I admire your courage to sail alone on the open ocean. You are amazing. Keep up the great job.
Thanks Holly another interesting video
Liked your video. I sailed a lot back in the 60,s
Another great video young Mrs. Love&Blessings.
Hi Holly. Love your videos, attitude, prescence, music... you are an inspirational soul. I have just started cruising with my husband... at age 58. We started to sail 3 years ago and realised the time to live a different life was now! Left UK in March, currently in France, heading for the Med. Much love and fair winds xxx
Yes! that's awesome! It's such an addictive lifestlyle!
Just found this channel, I love it, you are amazing doing this on your own. Fairwinds
Holly, you are a seasoned Party Animal.
I love how you Pirate your way around the world..
What a wonderful story your telling about your life on the Gego...
Looking forward to the next one..
Sun in your face, and wind at your back...
Arrrr !!!!
Another great video Holly. I love Mondays now :) keep them coming. Happy sailing. From New Zealand :)
I am really enjoying your videos!!!!
Great video, again. Thank you so much. Oh, and congrats on the progress - War and Peace. When you're done, gift it and you'll sail so much faster! It's a weighty tome.:)
A giveaway idea. Get your signed copy of Holly's books. After you get 200, or some number of Patreons, pick a random Patreon to get a signed copy of a book you have finished reading. But then there is the logistics issue getting that person the book.....ship it? Lol
Holly,
Great to see your childhood that I remember reading years ago.
Cheers
Very nice video. Look forward to seeing your cheery smile. Good luck. (Florida).
I've just found your channel and got hooked on Holly's exploits ! cool vibe and good sailor not to mention easy to look at there captain hot sauce. you just do you and load a video when the time is right. cool running's my new friend.
A tender to row, sail and motor is the perfect tender!
Glad to hear you're taking a chill attitude. Do not rush this experience. You'll regret rushing forever if you do. Trust me.
I binge watched your vids a couple weeks ago. Even all the work in Maine. You are the real deal. All on your own with little money you created a world for yourself. Very cool.... I'll be there with you now on all your adventures. 💟👍
Your doing an awesome job Kiddo. Keep up the great work. And having a sailing dinghy is a smashing idea. Have fun, be safe and KEEP ON SAILIN ON! cheers RJ
Awesome show. Wish I had a boat, too!
Nice update. have fun!
I grew up in Antigua and we used to go to 5 islands 🌴 a lot ..... Falmouth is where I learnt to sail cheers big up to you !
Wow Wow Wow!! You are simply the best! Courageous, resourceful, creative, confident and beautiful as well. Inspirational! The world needs more folks like you.
Came across your channel about a month ago; and have really grown to enjoy your work (fun). Went to the beginning; and watched all your videos in order. I have followed a lot of sailing channels over the years; but yours is the first that I have placed on my Google home page. Hope to be able to enjoy you for a long time. Happy travels!
I give you a lot of credit for doing what you are doing. It's awesome.
Super fun watching all your cool videos! Can’t wait to see how you decorate below decks!
Great video. Love the dinghy. Keep it real see you next week , Fair winds and calm seas.
Just found your channel. Love what your doing, keep it up...
So nice to join you on your journey. Your sailing dingy is very cool. Keep up the good work and keep up the lovely smiles!
As always great video...stay safe!!!
Wonderful vid! Thank you! You always make me smile. I settled on this beach in SW England after sailing forever because I got too ill to keep going. Sometimes I ache for the freedom of movement, but the beach is okay and there's still freedom of mind for me to enjoy here. Watching your vids and sharing moments of your life on the boat gives me that freedom back for a few minutes each time. Thank you for that. x
I'm so glad I can share my sailing with you! And the beach is probably my favorite land place to be!
That's you singing? Omg! More please!
Keep living your adventure!!! I look forward to every video. Wish you could post many more.
Sooo... Episode 6, and still no other sign of life on this deserted planet that otherwise looks so much like the Caribbean... But I'm starting to really like it, this time spent on Planet Holly. It's a good time, time well spent. Now, I'm actually dreading that in catching up to Ep 11, I'll suddenly see another person in your videos, or maybe even a dog. I think it would kind of freak me out, and it would also ruin this long streak of being alone, lost in your mind. I also loved the sailing dinghy. I was hoping you would use it to film the Gecko at anchor: I think I've only seen her once from stem to stern, when you did your boat tour. More Gecko, please!
Love your work...I am a Long Haul trucker and enjoy watching your adventures each week....
Even though I see the land-scape...i am envious of your Sea-scape....The ocean is such a magic place..
Be safe...
Keep up the good work and you will see more good things come your way. I love your videos I can't wait to get my own boat someday. Safe journeys
Breath of fresh sailing vids. Keep up the great adventures. Dave in Australia.
You are such an awesome lady Holly! ⛵⛵⛵
This is Awesome! It is rainy an crappy in VT! Our boat is in the water. We have been blown out on weekends for sailing (meaning winds 10-20 knots, non favorable for coming home still married with two kids alive!) An' we get to watch circumnavigation awesome-ness in Antigua - and hope things are good at Lake champlain by Saturday or Sunday!
Wish you luck on your sailing journey
Dude your videos are so cool. No other way to put it. Thanks for the great content.
Good. Job. We love you ❤️❤️
Thanks again for sharing. I appreciate the effort you went to for the cinematography. Those beach shots with he dingy look like you had a crew 👍
Did you ever consider capturing rainwater? You seem to be making use of all your space, so maybe you don't have much room.
Also, I bet you could also make someone's day by sending postcards to folks for donations. I don't know if you remember/met Kristen the artist in Antarctica. I'm pretty sure that's how I discovered you on ig- from her posts from there or somewhere she was. Anyway, she needed a little help to buy a dive suit and she did custom postcards and mailed them from Antarctica. I even got some for my nieces. They got a kick out of it, as did I.
Fair winds and following seas!
Sending a nugget of happiness your way Sailor.
If you get to New Orleans on your way to Panama, go to the Tabasco company store in the French Quarter and get the reserve Tabasco. Perfect balance and flavor. Happy sailing and stay safe. 😎
I’ve just watched all your videos and have enjoyed them all. Looking forward to following you on your big adventure. Fair winds from Scotland.
Glad the sounder was an easy fix. I like the dinghy sailing...cool!
