I absolutely love how after the crazy walk off in the world series he basically ran around acting like a Bird. I love it so much and honestly made a pretty big fan of hims

I love this guy. I went to a Yankees-Rays game in the Bronx in June 2021, and I saw something I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. The Yankees were losing badly, Phillips was in left field, and the whole left field section was cheering for him as he ran out for the 9th! He was interacting with them and having fun throughout the whole game that even a losing New York crowd couldn’t help but find some solace in how fun he is.

As a fellow Tampa native, seeing Brett play for the hometown team and watching that World Series will always hold a special place in my heart, not because they won, but because it was such a wonderful moment! I hate that he is on the Angels (I wish we had an extra roster spot on the Mariners for him) but I will happily cheer for him any time I can see him at T-Mobile Park.

He reminds me of the late Jay Johnstone, a guy who made sure everyone in the dugout had fun, a great prankster who once got into a groundskeeper uniform to drag the infield in midgame and then proceeded to hit a pinch hit HR in the next inning for the LaSorda Dodgers. I hope more players follow their example, Baseball IS Fun !!!

I'm so damn tired of all these sorts of "channels" on baseball on YT seeking and reporting negative,

Carlos Baerga on the 2003 Red Sox fulfilled a similar role. He was mostly a bench player, but was considered the best teammate on the team. He also had a couple of big hits and a huge game winning sac fly and everyone was so happy for him. That's who Phillips reminds me of.

If Brett Phillips is able to help market this game as effectively as he has been so far for the rest of his career and into retirement I think that they should have a talk in cooperstowns about letting him in on the same ground that the inventor of the curveball did. Obviously I don’t think this will happen but I think that there are ways to innovate the game off the field that are cooperstown worthy and I would consider marketing as one of those methods so if he keeps it up there should really be a conversation about it
