+samuricexful haha. Edd is one my favorite characters. I want to add this: "Fuck the Glass! We're gonna die here!" He's a rational man! and definitely suited to become Lohd Cammandah if Jon Snow leaves..
The look on Jon's face when he said "Well, there's Edd." I think Edd is one of the greatest examples of a comic relief character ever. He's hilarious, he's effective in other ways, and damn does this series need some comic relief now and again.
"The dead are likely dull fellows, full of tedious complaints-the ground's too cold, my gravestone should be larger, why does he get more worms than I do..." i love him
The writers killed him off like a punk. It made me so mad, more than a lot of other things, it was so pointless. Served no purpose but checking a box off that said "Kill off character people like". Then they thought, "But let's do it so his death is meaningless and let's film so it looks completely ridiculous! People will love it!" Ugh, I'm not bitter or anything!
Edd has so many great lines. He reminds me of Bronn just not as confident or good at fighting. I feel like they could be cousins or something. They probably aren't meant to look so similar in the books though
+Felipe Montealegre nice counte argument, let me explain. First off, Edd is from the Vale, house tollett, not the north. Secondly, he's completely different from bronn. Quite the opposite. Whilst bronn is a cutthroat, an optimist and a seducer, a rogue in all ways. Edd is a man of honour, joining the nights watch on his own will and standing loyal to his friends, despite his pessimism. Hope that enlightens you a bit
the thing about edd i find so fascinating is that he tells the truth, the horrible truth, and makes it hilarious! "he went off with the half-hand and didn't come back. a betting man would go with dead." "jon's a great fighter. he has a valyrian steel sword." "so did his father." lol! thts horrible! so horrible it broke the internet but edd made it funny
I absolutely love how almost every scene they complain about shoveling all the time, whilst shoveling. And in all the other scenes when they talk about something else, they're either walking or shoveling. xD
The best indication that castle black and the wall are going to come down this season: Dolorous Edd was left in charge. And if it's going to happen to anyone, he would be unlucky enough.
3:53 LOL even in a tense and serious situation, he never ceases to crack a smartass line Bronn, Tormund, Tyrion, and Edd need to have a roundtable discussion
Edd Tollet: "Place was overrun with rats when we moved in. The spearwives killed the nasty buggers. Now the place is overrun with spearwives. There’s days I want the rats back."
It's moments like this that made me love the Night's Watch cast so much. We get to see them just hanging out. To be fair people try to kill them so often that hanging out for them is almost always happening at the same time as crucial plot points, so it's easy to put into the background. Hell even in the battle for the Wall: "They won't stop here before dawn!" "I think they're in a bigger hurry than you were!"
I love it when they name one of the strawmen on the wall after Edd and come back to see that his just missed getting the most arrows shot into it. Edd: "I never win at anything."
Is no one gonna question the scythe? We never hear about the scythe before this. We never hear about the scythe after this. We don't know how long the scythe has been in the wall. Someone thought 'we should make a huge fuckin scythe, just. in. case.'. Somehow Edd knows about the scythe. Who told Edd about the scythe? It must have been a relatively well kept secret, because Mance used to be a man of the Nights Watch and he never warned the wildings "Hey guys, be careful the Nights Watch has this huge fuckin scythe that they will use on us." What did they do with the scythe afterwards? You can't just hide a huge fucking scythe like that a second time. Did they just drop it? The real mystery isn't Azor Ahai, it's the fuckin Scythe. Praise the scythe.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Mance was at Shadowtower when he was in the Night's Watch, so he'd have no idea about a scythe being at Castle Black.
Edd gathers, and now Edd's watch begins. It shall not end until Edd's death. Edd shall take no wife, hold no Edds, and father no Edds. Edd shall wear no crowns and win no glory. Edd shall live and die at his Edd. He is the Edd in the darkness. He is the Edd on the walls. He is the Edd that guards the realms of Edd. Edd pledges his life and Edd to the Edd's Watch, for this Edd and all the Edds to come
Funny story for those who haven't read the books yet. Pyp voted for Ed as Lord Commander as a prank. So Ed was forced to go to a bunch of meetings with Stannis to get yelled at because Stannis wanted them to hurry the hell up and choose someone so he could finally make a deal with the Watch. The cook was also in the running with like five votes lol. Both were actually in the running longer than Jon Snow, since that happened right at the end. Jon even laughed when he found out he'd been voted in since he thought he was another dummy candidate and was about to make a joke of it until he realised he had basically half the entire vote already.
In the books Edd, Grenn and Pyp are honestly my favourite characters (maybe after Jon...and Dany.......maybe Tyrion....). Best of Dolorous Edd scenes = ALL of Dolorous Edd scenes
“Did Sam sleep in the hall last night?” Jon asked him. “I’d not call it sleeping. The ground was hard, the rushes ill-smelling, and my brothers snore frightfully. Speak of bears if you will, none ever growled so fierce as Brown Bernarr. I was warm, though. Some dogs crawled atop me during the night. My cloak was almost dry when one of them pissed in it. Or perhaps it was Brown Bernarr. Have you noticed that the rain stopped the instant I had a roof above me? It will start again now that I’m back out. Gods and dogs alike delight to piss on me.”
i loved his character in the books, because he always said pretty much exactly what i would have been thinking, but probably not actually said were I in his shoes.
fucking Edd not only was he hilarious and totally blunt but honestly pretty smart and wise in a lot of ways with his clever comments. I'm not surprised he rose to become Lord Commander
"The Fist of the First Men! Think of how old this place is! Before the Targareons defeated the Andals, before the Andals took Westeros from the First Men-" "Before I die, please... stop talking."
Samwell: "What do you think they were like, the first men?"
Edd: "Stupid. Smart people don't find themselves in places like this."

He's a rational man! and definitely suited to become Lohd Cammandah if Jon Snow leaves..
At least he's real.
Hate Sam, useless and annoying
I've said it before, I'll say it again: Dolorous Edd is the funniest character in the Night's Watch.
+NicholasGeschke They're not really a funny bunch so that's not saying much
+NicholasGeschke Ok say it again. Its not like its hard to believe, hes the only comic relief in the night's watch.
NicholasGeschke
LOL yep.
Sam is clearly his apprentice
Schmidt it's actually true in the show as well
IMO Dolorous Edd is the funniest guy in the entire story. Who else even comes close to his constant deadpan delivery?
The look on Jon's face when he said "Well, there's Edd." I think Edd is one of the greatest examples of a comic relief character ever. He's hilarious, he's effective in other ways, and damn does this series need some comic relief now and again.

I saw Ben Crompton (actor who plays dolorous edd) today in my local park with his kid. He complimented me on my game of thrones shirt, made my day.
Dolorous Edd was so much more hilarious in the books. Dude's complaints and grumblings were always comedic gold.
"Poor girls never thought they'd miss their daddy"
How can a line be so tragic and foreboding yet so hilarious?
RIP Dolorous Edd. You're with Grenn and Pyp now.

Edd, Bronn and Tormund < Best characters right there. I'm just thankful they're not dead... Yet.
Tormund's lack of HARRing in the series makes me sad though. At least he's just as raunchy as his book character. lol
The Hound is a good one too. He's got some great one liners and thanks to season 6, we know he's still alive.
Ya gotta have some female favourites; like Lyanna Mormont for example.
