Thank you, that was instructive. There are scores of people making "tutorials" here on YT who create really bad topology, which will never survive encounter with life outside of SketchUp (or even any boolean operation within SketchUp itself), and not a single one of them seems to be aware of it -- it teaches people horrible habits. I am not surprised that when importing some random asset from the Warehouse you encounter that sort of thing.
I live by making all my models solids, allows for easy editing and keeps you honest in having a clean model overall, this was a great tutorial, and general concept to learn. I use the Clean Plugin all the time, but to do all the manual work you did, I love using Solid Inspector as well. Will automatically erase all the items preventing a solid, or at the least highlight them for you to fix manually. Love the channel, thanks for the vids!
Thumbs up to Solid Inspector by Thom Thom as well.
Does the solid make this way be imported in solidworks also?
I am using solid inspector now...good tutorial, thank you
thank you very much for this. i've been trying to use the union/subtract etc for 30mins with no use lol

THANK YOU YOU SAVED ME BRUH THANKS
You saved me!!! Thanks man!
Thank you!
such a shame the answer wasn't easy and fast and direct :(
How were you able to get your UI to look like that? Also I am following the steps you take by on my screen it is not showing an extensions tab, or extensions that I have downloaded.
how to add that extensions tab ? i dont have that tab
So how do I get that plug in
Why doesn't this software allow to declare a what an object is? It looks like it decides that something is a solid just to then make it a non-solid one moment later.
Shouldn't be the creator in charge of what is a solid and what not? They could easily make a solid rectangle, then pull up the rectangle and it's already a solid and it shouldn't change.
The solution conceived by sketchup is perverse.
Why don't the help files explain that you have to make point line plane objects into a group to use the solid tools?
Good
thank you so much!!
lolz you lost me at imported a lug wrench ,if i was not a newbie im sure what you said was great but sadly ive no clue ,all im trying to do is push pull a flat gear ive drawn but it wont solid ,every push pull i do just makes it hollow
didnt work :(
thank you
we have imported a 3D model and have cleaned up with solid inspector , when we slice the Model into parametric slices/parts we get incomplete parts / slices.. dow we need to fill model as solid block ? if so how ? Please advise
thank you god
this kinda suggests not using sketchup :D
Too much work. Just get solid inspector plugin. It's awesome
that does not convert a mesh to a solid!
It definitely did not convert it, but the combination of the two got me there, thank you @john P
