Ahhhh the memories this brings back, especially the drum solo, it always brought the house down. GFR were always such a great show and I rate their shows as some of my favorite memories.
In the entire history of rock and roll, who brings the funk better than The Funk?! No one, I say! Hey, they're from Detroit--that's just how that works.
Their manager messed them over badly-took a lot of money from them-BUT then they started fighting amongst themselves-law suits against each other-Farner and Brewer have never settled their differences. Brewer still travels with a band and calls it GFR BUT without Farner it ISN'T the real GFR-It's sad
Terry Knight, GFRs manager, was a known ass-hole that would blow-off press conferences and snub interviews to create a mystique about GFR and it worked really well , but he went too far when he took out a 2 page ad in Rolling Stone Magazine, Giving everyone the middle finger. Well, Rolling Stone and MTV and the RR HOF , are all connected. The Big-shots told Terry , Grand Funk will never be in the Hall of fame. I am glad about it. Grand Funk is too good for those pansies.
Nobody in the 70s rocked harder than Grand Funk Railroad and you saw it right there. This performance makes it even harder to believe that they essentially kicked Mark Farner out of the band a decade later.
wow, this band never disappoints. My second favorite song of theirs is "Into The Sun" ....you can skip about the first 30 seconds....its the same for the first 1 minute. But it does set the rest of the song.
Hi ya Chod. Boy are you gonna love this one. My wife and I were at this concert. I put my wife on my shoulders so she Don Brewer's solo, ( she was 5'0" and 98 pounds, oh and she still is he said after receiving a blow to the ribs) She kept asking what he was doing with his face. I finally found out in 2012 after watching this video. And remember to keep your paradiddles clean and tasty. Love your channel, keep up the good work.

Don't know if you know Buddy Rich or not. After you check out his Impossible Drum Solo, GOAT CROWN BELONGS TO HIM. By the way he had a heart attack half way through this solo. According to to some of his family members. Hand speed at his ageWow!
You are absolutely correct. Buddy is one of the jazz drummers that people like John Bonham, Keith Moon and especially Ginger Baker looked up to and idolized.
@@roberthendershott8972 I agree, my late father-in-lay play horns with Buddy Rich when they were both with Harry James' Big Band in the 1950's. The "war stories he'd tell of playing with Rich, Harry, and several of thee big guns as he refered to them were amazing to hear.
This is real rock and roll played played by real musicians on real instruments with real talent!! Unlike the electronic computerized garbage that's been pushed for the last 20 years!!
Although this was a live version, I learned to play the drums by trying to do what he did on the MARK DON & MEL 1969 to 1971 LIVE Album. I sent you a request to react to this very musical masterpiece. I'd like to see a drum solo from you !!! Jim
In my opinion, Don Brewer was on the same level drumming as John Bonham or Ginger Baker. Loved listening to him, especially on the album Mark, Don and Mel.
THANK YOU FOR FINALLY SHOWCASING THIS PERFORMANCE ! DONNIE BREWER IS STILL THE BEST !!!!! CHECK OUT THIS SONG ON THEIR "LIVE THE 1971 TOUR" CD. NONE BETTER

At several points there is a quarter note triplet (sixth notes) in which each beat is counted with its own tuplet of 5, 5 and 6; at another is a half note triplet (third notes) in which the second beat is a quintuplet (actually a tuplet of 7), and the third beat is divided into tuplets of 4 and 5. The song ends with a quarter note triplet composed of tuplets of 5, 5, and 6, followed by two tuplets of 11 in the space of one
T.N.U.C is a Bad word spelled Backwards, I can't spell out the C word because RUclips would put in jail for a While, GFR wanted to call the song by that C word, and the their Record Label didn't let them so they Put that word Backwards
Yeah, this band is my all-time favorite rock and roll band. Don Brewers is one of my top favorite drummers of all time, but it's too bad he became a dick to Mark Farner. And it's a crime that they're not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, even though it's totally a political organization.
I keep coming back and watching this video, ashame I can't like it every time ! Loving the drums and being a drummer myself I love watching your reaction to how he just tears up this song and solo ! They are definitely in my Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. They're also my favorite band !
I really wish you would do the full Moby Dick video. Bonzos speed was a blur like watching helecopter blades it was so fast. You missed all that with the short clip you showed.😥
Hooked on love grand funk railroad
During this era it seemed like every band had a amazing drummer. 15 minute drum solos were everywhere.
If you saw Grand Funk Railroad back in the early 70s, you really saw one of the truly great bands of that era.
These guys had a lot of showmanship.
Donnie Brewer was one heck of a drummer!
You HAVE to watch an entire concert of theirs. Try the one from nyc at shea stadium. They re better live. I saw them twice in early 70 s. Unreal!
Those early GFR years, they just could not loose. Then they got screwed over so much took the wind right out of their sails.
The group that took the U.S back from the Beatles when beat their record for selling out Shea stadium ! You could say they did it in "record" time 😎🎸
Don Brewer, the original headbanger!! Love the way he banged his head on the snare, twice!!
I saw Don a few years ago playing with Bob Seger. He still hits the skins hard.
Ahhhh the memories this brings back, especially the drum solo, it always brought the house down. GFR were always such a great show and I rate their shows as some of my favorite memories.
me too... actually my first concert at 13 in '71

Ooh, I wish I could relive this. I miss those days. Fire!!!
If you spell the song backwards, you realize it’s a song about a chick that was no longer on their Christmas card list.
In the entire history of rock and roll, who brings the funk better than The Funk?! No one, I say! Hey, they're from Detroit--that's just how that works.
GRAND FUNK RAILROAD was great live ! EPIC LIVE BAND ! How about some BEACH BOYS !!
I got cramps in both arms and legs just watching him.
U need to listen to the "Grand Funk LIVE" album and hear that version of T.N.U.C. All time classic LP

You need to realize that Survival" is there best album with Gimmie Shelter same as Rollin Stones just as good
I like GFR version BETTER!
Me too.
Flint Proud, Flint Rock and Roll.
Don still does solos just like this. Seen him 4x in last 5 years. Wish Mark was still in the group.
Well they SCREWED HIM OVER MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY ARE NOT GFR ANYMOPRE.
Thanks Chod for another GFR reaction. This is such a good album and lead up to their best, "The Red Album". There is not a bad song on that album.
THE RED ALBUM IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spelled backwards! 😁
You are just a right on dude!! One of my favourite reactors!!!
Got to see them live in this era, (yeah I’m that old) and they really rocked.
We that grew up in the 60's70's had the great music of all time!!😉👍

Jim Fox great drummer from the James Gang. Check out lost woman.
You need to listen to the live version of inside looking out you won't be disappointed
Nice straight-ahead American boogie here. At some point you may enjoy “footstompin’ music“, good organ in it.
Mick Jagger only wished he could strut like Mark Farner
And play guitar like Farner
GFR wanted to tour with The Stones but The Stones said no way. If you was a lead band you had to be careful with them playing with you.

They are a Live Arena type band, to me their studio stuff does not do them Justice. Check out Heartbreaker Live, phenomenal
How's that for a show? Boys were good.
Heartbreaker- from this same concert at the LA Forum
Sorry, but according to Mark Farner's biography, and many other sources, this show was at the San Diego Sports Arena, the day after the Forum concert
