Heard the Linda Ronstadt’s version on The Last of Us. But this will forever till the day I die be my favorite version, grew up listening to Jerry Jeff, Rest in Peace
Jerry Jeff Walker is one of the best artists of all time:) good writin', singin' and guitar playin'
My brother is 4 years older than me and we lived in a small country town in Missouri, my brother saved for years and when he was 16 he brought a new Camero 327 engine, cost was under $3,000 , sometimes late at night we would go to a county paved road and try to get the coasting record, we won evt time
How sweet to hear him sing his friend Gary White’s song. Linda Ronstandt’s version makes me cry because she sings it so beautifully.
... he has such a casual delivery , so smooth 👌...You have to be made of stone not to feel something when He's singing
I can't believe my eyes!!!! I have listened to this recording about 5 thousand times and it has meant so much to me. To SEE the actual concert has blown me away!! I am beside myself!!
42awww same here!... great album and I've listened to it that many times as well.
I saw Jerry Jeff (and met him!) on this tour. I remember him doing this song that night. He was always totally amazing in concert- a one of a kind brilliant musician.
RIP JJW.
@@hippie00scum What a thrill that must have been!
God bless Jerry Jeff Walker!
I love this man
Beautiful
Jerry Jeff makes any song sound good. I enjoyed the story behind the song. I agree with others, this song is Linda’s.
Yes this available as a CD...bought it years ago and love every song on it.
JJW u are surely missed
Thanks for posting this. It's wonderful to hear the background story of this great composition. Jerry Jeff Walker shifted a couple of lines, still makes sense though. All cover versions of this song has slight variations in the lyrics. After listening to Larry Santos & Rod McKuen cover versions also, I'm convinced that it's Linda Ronstadt's version that really launched the song. Funny how even a good song needs just the right mix of great voice and arrangement to truly shine.
Another Great Song From J.J.W.
His friend and band mate at the time Gary B. White actually wrote it . Linda made it famous. Beautiful song! Her version makes my throat tighten up and my eyes water a little when I listen to her sing it.
Agree Walter. But the authenticity of it makes it worth the listen. Voice track is solid though. Never knew he wrote this. I've been a Ronstadt fan for 50 years now, and will listen to this song with a new appreciation now. Blessings JJW...Ed
He didn't write this, listen to the intro
Eric Hertel you're correct. Gary White, who was JJW's bandmate in Circus Maximus, wrote it. He picks up the tempo a bit.
Been a fan of Jj and will push up Daisy's listening to him
Great song
This Guy is still amazing
... And I don't have a wingmam
Gary B. White
Wow and flutter city! That's a well worn tape.
Awesome.
I believe Jerry Jeff Walker was from Oneonta, N.Y.
Yes upstate N.Y. near Binghamton .N.Y.
Yes indeed he was from Oneonta , NY . The Captain of the OHS football team as I recall.
Interesting version
♥️♥️♥️
Nobody used the distance to and from the microphone like Jacky Jack
Whoops, he didn't. But did write Mr. Bojangles Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's great tune...
The last of us ep 3
I usually like Jerry Jeff, but this is not the greatest version of this song, kinda laconic, if you you what I mean.
Seems a little rushed. Not bad, but not Ronstadtian quality.
Not sure men can sound poignant enough.
Love Linda's version, but this is cool, low key with that Jerry Jeff mumble, classic.
